I just ordered mine...but I still don't know what is included in the package, anyone here knows what's inside? Maybe those who already own it can tell me. Thanks.

Manuals, Gateway advertising paper, AC charger, battery, the laptop, some cushions for the laptop, and a Windows 32/64bit CD.

At best buy they open it up and check it while you wait for a half hour after you buy it. I couldn't stand someone else manhandling my computer before I even got to touch it. Anyway... When I got home and opened it up after they repacked it, they forgot to put one of the cables back in (not the power block but the AC cable that attached to it). I was so upset I had to drive back to get it. At first they didn't believe me and assumed I was trying to get a free AC cable, they checked around and didnt see the cable. I told them check again and they finally found it. They were such d*cks about it. I asked them what they could do for me to compensate, they said there was nothing they could do but apologize, which they didn't even do. The guy who unpacked it said "my bad" in a nonchalant way, that was as close as they came to an apology.

I've never had to wait when I purchased a laptop from BB. They came perfectly sealed and one of the blue shirts checked me out. Thats some sheet that store made up to cut down on fradulent returns.

Wow, I feel like my uncle just touched me the wrong way... they actually told me they didn't have it at first and I asked them to check other stores and they said that they already had for an earlier customer. They said they would have more in on monday. When I was walking out I was looking up on top of the storage racks and saw 4 of them sitting there, pointed them out to the guy and he was just like oh sorry, my fault, and got one down for me.

I wouldnt mind opening it myself in the store to make sure everythings working and theres no dead pixels etc would save me the hassle of driving back and forth and then explaining myself of why and whats wrong and taking another hour of my life away . But opening the box and checking everything out without your permission sounds like they get a lot of bogus returns on big ticket items ,or you look like a criminal . Jk .

You made them mad, because they all wanted one. So they went and looked at pr0n for a half hour at your expense. I'd check your lappy for viruses...
And actually I'm being serious, really do check it. I know someone who it happened to at a future shop. -

Ok thanks for the info. P.S - that shouldn't happen when you are buying a computer...

Jakamo5 is gonna have heads rolling come monday morning. ill be sure to keep an eye on the news for mass firings at a bestbuy store in delaware .

Yeah, I had to wait quite a while to have the salesman get my box down from where it was stored and get it up front to me where I was waiting, but no one opened the box. He did ask me if I wanted them to open and inspect it and have the Geeks take a look at it, but I said no thanks. I've worked IT for the last 15 years, building my own computers for the last 10 years or so, so I figured I could handle it...

Sounds like we have had wildly varying experiences. I got my unit on Thursday. I had to drive about 20 miles as the nearer stores had not received their units yet. To ensure I got my system, I ordered on-line for local pickup as this more or less ensures there will be a box waiting. It took less than 2 minutes from the time I walked into the store to the time I left with my sealed box. No one offered to open the box or do anything else other than sell me an overpriced extended warranty.
By the way, I registered my system with Gateway. 2 days later, I got a congratulations on your purchase from Acer (now parent company of Gateway) offering an extended warranty for $99 for 2 years and you can wait up to 1 year after initial purchase to buy this extended warranty. Just thought others might like to know ;-)

So what happens when you want to return it Jakamo5? Since it's already opened does that mean you would have to pay a 15% restocking fee? That would sound outrageous to me since it was BB that opened it. One word, BullS**t!

Not to make a big plug for the Geek Squad, but I bet their training leaves much to be desired. Most places people try to be helpful while following the rules as the rules have been explained to them. -

Perhaps it's because i had to inform the sales reps and the geek squad about this laptop being in the back of the store (they had no ****ing idea) But they didn't offer to help me with anything.. which is good since you know, on average they know **** all about computers really.

That's all very disturbing. For myself, I know I'd either refuse to buy it at that point, or else return it right away. Just ridiculous.
How terribly useful of them to tweak it, when the first thing I'd do is swap hard drives out and reinstall Vista from scratch
What's inside the Gateway P-7811FX box?
