Someone know how limit the memory shared of HD2600??

my system info report this (sorry have software in spanish )

Memoria física instalada (RAM) 4,00 GB
    Memoria física total 4,00 GB
    Memoria física disponible 2,61 GB
    Memoria virtual total 8,20 GB
    Memoria virtual disponible 6,75 GB
Espacio de archivo de paginación 4,29 GB

the catalyst control panel showme 2303 MB of hypermemory
and no option in the bios or catalyst control panel to disable hipermemory.

and i can't disable the touchpad, is irritating to be typing and lower friction in the scroll area change of position on the page
someone was able to disable it?

I'd like to know this as well, if someone knows how to turn off the hypermemory for the HD 2600 as it seems to by default allocate a certain amount of RAM for it, but I can't find a way to adjust this in the BIOS

darn on well. And for those in the ohio / columbus area, i found 1 m-6862 still for sale, unopened, at best buy. Probably down to $525 or even less. It wasn't on display. I just noticed it in a laptop cage. I'm sure it's dirt cheap by now.

Afternoon everyone. I have the same machine and it has run without a hitch. I was a bit concerned that there are no exhaust fans on the bottom of the machine but it seems to stay within safe temps so far. No gaming yet to warm it up but mostly bought this for more of a document machine.

I use a wireless mouse for the machine. Never been a touchpad fan. I can't find anything on how to turn teh touchpad off. I have another machine that when it detects a mouse the touchpad automatically turns off. I'm open to anything that allows me to turn this pad off. Either by detection or permanently.

    Hi CompUG,

I run my laptop battery on HIGH settings all the way and it lasts me couple hours!

Can you post how long your Battery last in different Settings AND what are you doing while in that mode.

The only thing I have noticed and I have seen others post about that the AC charger does get a little more toasty than usual!

    G! :)

The main problem with this laptop is its heat design. Rmclock will lower heat and extend battery life. Mine still ran too hot. I found some 1980 or earlier pennies(pre 1980 copper post zinc/copper plated"). Cut to fit gpu and bridge and sanded till smooth. Lowered gpu temps by 11 degrees celcius

    Hi escjunkmail,

Great Tip ... you wouldn't by any chance have taken any Pictures Before & After your project!?!? If so, can you post them on NBR. BTW, how did you adhere it to the GPU!?!?

Also, did you by any chance apply any Arctic Silver 5 or any other material?

    Thanks,

    G! :)

I didn't read through all these pages but I'm having a problem with this laptop. It crashes when I play games. Only games. I ran a burn in test for 2 hours with no errors and I regularly use photoshop, after effects, and premiere for extended periods of time with no problems. It doesn't seem to matter what game I play (except the original Half Life) it will crash at some point. And all types of crashes: reboots, freezes you have to hard shut down, even a few bsods. Is there a fix for this? It crashed with the supplied ati drivers and I have recently updated them with the mobility modder and that has not solved the problem.

I love the laptop otherwise. It works great for the work I do but it's useless for whenever I want to relax with a game. Still worth the money (I paid $350) even if there was a sticker on it that says "Does not play games."

well, i just got around to undervolting my laptop, and im getting very nice temps now. i ended up undervolting from 1.2500v to 1.0000v.

    here are idle temps:

    here are max temps:

big difference from the stuff i posted on my first post, the max temps were recorded playing a half hour of fallout 3 and going a full run of 3dmark06.

im not sure how much extra battery life i got but hopefully its alot better.

i suppose since my cpu temp went down it brought everthing else down alot because everything seems to be smashed together in one lump. not sure about the hard drive though, that temp is confusing me.

oh well, i suggest undervolting, i got nice results

    Hi Joshthor,

    Nicely done!

So, you are D&G man ... btw, the rectangular console showing 100% charged and other info on the Right hand side of your laptop screen ...

Q1: What Program is it? Does it also show your Battery Charge left? Is it a Freeware? If so, can you link up to it for me!!!

    Thanks,

    G! :)

im pretty sure they were detected correctly. and all the voltages were at 1.25 before i started lowering them. i wasnt completely sure what i was doing so after the x12 multiplyer was stable, i lowered all the rest of them cause i thought i was supposed to. (first time undervolting lol)

all the stuff on the side is the vista sidebar, all the cpu, ram, battery, and wifi are istat stuff, the black/white thing is a download/upload speed thing, and the rest should come preloaded i think.

    btw what is D&G

    Hey everyone,

I recently purchased this laptop from Best Buy. Talk about bang for your buck. Nonetheless, I wanted to add some AS5 to the CPU to cool it down and it the process of removing the heatsink, I ripped off some of the thermal interface material on both the chipset and the graphics card. I tried my best to join the edges of the pieces together but my temperatures appear hotter than when I received it stock. My CPU temperatures are very low (say 14-19 C) idle, but my GPU and Chipset have gone up by several degrees (5-7 C). I tried to use AS Ceramique but you definitely need the pads because of the space gap. Does anyone know where I can buy new pads/putty? I've tried searching online everywhere but people only carry grease or pads that are too thin. Gateway is being stupid, saying they don't supply nor offer this part. Anyone know what thermal interface material Gateway used for the graphics card/chipset. Are there better cooling solutions that account for space or gap between contact points?

BTW: The picture of the inside of the laptop is on page 11 of this review. Sorry, but I don't have 15 posts yet.

    Thanks!

Is that Objectdock you're using? and if so free/pro and how do you like it (system hog? etc)?

Reason I'm asking is because I'm using Rocketdock, and I like it, but I like yours is alittle more subtle.

Also does your batterylife increase much undervolting?
Your temps are good but my idle temps aren't really that far off yours so I'm not gunna bother for time being, unless the battery boost is decent.

Maybe I'm just getting good temps myself though, standard voltage, not propped up, on for 7+ hours (homework :/ )

that depends on which version of cpu-z you have. if you have anything later than 1.41, it displays the voltages incorrectly. anything 1.41 or lower and it displays correctly.

as for the rmclock...after you checked mobile for cpu type and restarted rmclock, did you go into the profiles tab and hit the defaults button?

yes, you should. as it stands right now, your voltages are haywire, probably causing your idle temps to be a little higher than normal.

personally, i would redo every multiplier as i like to have everything as low as possible when undervolting, but you can also just test the lowest multiplier and the highest multiplier and then check the box that says auto adjust intermediate voltages.

9,932 k on high performance mode

3,736 k on lower performance mode

theres a very small difference between them, the high performance mode only makes it slightly smother, not by alot though

I bought my 6862 for $419 at the local best buy in September.

Anyways does anyone know how to squeeze some more out of the 2600? Any tweaks? Also this game plays Company of Heroes very nicely :D

Whoa! Now THAT'S a great price! I paid $769 for my 6864FX back in August. (same build except for the HD) Lucky for you, buddy!

I've seen some threads on the 2600, sorry I can't point you to any of them. I'm sure a search will turn something up.

    Good luck with your 6862.

Thanks!! I went there prepared to pay 600 for it. They didn't even have them on the floor anymore, only on the shelf/locker thing at BB. So we took it and it rung up at 419.99. Was a nice surprise, the guy said they were on clearance. If I'd have known it was such a decent lap top I'd have bought two.

they were selling refurbed versions of these laptops in buy.com for $579 (with a coupon i only got $10 taken off, oh well its still really cheap). They were selling them from Dec 12 to Jan 1, I think I got one of the last ones, as I ordered in Dec 27.

Its not close to the $450 you guys were talking about in best buy, but still I think I got a great deal (even though its refurbed). Did yall' get a warranty? I doubt I did. I think as of now every retailer is officially empty of every form of this laptop, that is, of course, unless some people from buy.com return the laptop, but I wouldn't count on it since buy.com has one of the worst return services (in some cases shipping takes longer than the time you can return it.)

EDIT: ppl tell me the cache is low or something like that, do i buy a new one o_O. Is there actually, ANYTHING I need to upgrade in this laptop (I'm guessing the wireless card), and any specific drivers I should get?

dude did you get it recently, like in BB? If so, i might just go over there and get one myself, mine is still shipping (lol i got 3-5 day shipping and buy.com said its going to arrive on the 9th, 2 weeks after my order... gotta love buy.com), so i can go over there and get it and return my incoming order once i get it.

EDIT: nvm i read a few more of your posts, you got it back in sept.

    Hi folks,

Q1: Does anyone know what is M-6862 "Motherboard brand and Model"?

I just ran the "Everest 4.60.1500 Trial" and for MOBO is says "Unknown".

If anyone has physically opened the unit and know this info, please post back!

Q2: What Brand is your CD/DVD player/burner? And is it a SATA Optical Drive?

    Thanks,

    G! :)
