well, i waited too long to clean my heatsinks. there was a nice layer of dust blockage.
while playing a game, the screen turned grey and i could hear the rear fan rattling. i was unable to restart the laptop unless in safe mode. i reformatted and now everything runs fine except for games. the screen will still turn white or grey and i will hear the fan shortly after starting the game.

anyone know what i can do?

Clean it thoroughly. Apply ICD7 on the cpu/gpu (got to take it apart). Reinstall the video driver. Try Undervolting as well.
