Can't believe more aren't jumping on this, they are decent systems with high end design and performance in my experience. Service and warranty support is pretty good in my experience as well. I put one on order, we will see if it gets delivered. (HIDevolution via Amazon of course)
-
Well looks like my order was canceled WTF.
-
Who did you order it from?
I placed my order on Sunday through Amazon to be fulfilled by HIDevolution.
Edit: Oh you already stated where you ordered it. Same route as me.
Wonder why it was canceled...mine still shows up in my Amazon order menu. I went with this model - 17X YB-8US2450MP (i7-10875h w/ 2080 Super)Last edited: May 20, 2020 -
Yes, Amazon but ordered the HIDevolution AORUS 17X YB-9US2452MP 17.3" FHD 240Hz | 2.4 GHz i9-10980HK, RTX 2080 Super but debating on the reorder of the HK vs the 10870H, seems the H version normally is allowed 100 watts and 700 bucks more. Mine said canceled due to incorrect price.
-
Well I thought the price was good, but didn't realize it was that good (1000 bucks wrong lol) but I still reordered. @Ted@HIDevolution heads up Aorus 17x YB with GELID from amazon submitted.
-
Let me know if your order gets shipped, hopefully we get served around the same time frame.Last edited: May 24, 2020
-
For sure. I’ve been looking at the status daily. I will post here when I receive any updates.
-
So I’m guessing no one has their hands on one of these yet?
-
Ordered May 17th. Amazon says scheduled to ship June 16-26. HIDevolution since updated their website to say “Pre-Order ETA Late June” (previously Late May)
I’ve been monitoring my order to see if they can keep their original ship date. I speculate that HIDevolution expects to receive their shipment sometime mid June, but idk. Still two weeks out for my expected delivery date.
Amazon says July 9-26 if you place an order today. Seems about the same for mine....about 4-6 weeks from date of order so HIDevolution can run it through QCLast edited: Jun 9, 2020GTVEVO likes this. -
Yup Arriving Jun 17 - Jun 25 for mine, hopefully it doesn't get delayed but we shall see.
-
Got an update that my shipment will be delayed an additional 10-15 days or more.
Will keep everyone posted... -
Bummer, I expect I will get the same as mine has not shipped either.
-
I hope I dont get dissapointed

This thing is starting to seem like a unicorn. Hopefully it comes in soon as I'm curious how this stacks up to the competition.

Well, not so good news. I received a message from HIDEvolution that they were notified things would not be arriving on time and they are expecting a 30 day delay (BUMMER). They have asked if I would like to wait or cancel my order, I want to wait but I really hate to wait too long as I expect the 3080 system to get released be the end of the year so I haven't answered yet.
-
Will laptops get a 3080 card this year too tho, or only for desktops?
-
I suspect desktops this year in 4q then prob early 2021 for the laptop cards but I could be wrong, seems production is behind due to the issues going on in the world. Its Nvidia you just never know.
-
Decided to give it another 30 days, hopefully more updates soon.
-
Bummer. For the price this really seems like a good deal. Just a shame it’s taking so long to release. But with all that’s goin on in the world it’s probably playing a big part in the delays.
-
Got a tracking number from Amazon today. Looks like they used UPS Next Day Air. Says it will be here tomorrow...
-
Received the laptop today. Everything seems good to go.

Just a FYI to potential buyers: there seems to be a bit of a waiting time for new stock of the model with 2080S Max-P to appear at HID. Their customer service says that they expect to hear an ETA from distributors by the end of this week.

I believe it. I’m actually surprised I got mine when I did, even after waiting 1.5 months
-
Yup I am still waiting but if it doesn't come soon I will just release my order.
Originally I ordered mine mid may which was canceled due to a price problem. I reordered and been waiting. I understand it's out of HIDs hands though. Still frustrated.Last edited: Jul 8, 2020 -
Yeah. I also looked at Gentech and their 17X 2080S is also in pre-order. Here's hoping that the stock situation improves soon.
-
On a different note, is this laptop usable on AC without a battery? Or does the battery have to stay in?
-
Don't know but the older system I have doesn't use battery power substitution due to the PSU not being sufficient. In theory it should work just fine but prob won't know for sure until you try it.
-
Lurker here, and I'm set on getting the Aorus 17X. My only question now is: i7 or i9 if all I'm going to do is game and type stuff?
Based on what I find online, there doesn't seem to be a substantial difference unless you're a content creator. -
Basically yes for gaming the i7 will be perfect 80%-90% of the time depending upon the games you play. In games that require a very high amount of CPU or if you wish to run higher frame rates it helps to have the unlocked i9. Aorus is usually more forgiving with their power configurations though even with the locked cpus.
-
I still haven't heard anything about stock, anyone else?
-
HID has a firm date: July 20. Xotic chat rep claims they have (or had - when I engaged in chat a few days ago) stock now.GTVEVO likes this.

@h2knacho Can you shed some light on this “Graphic Switcher” feature? Is it just Gigabyte’s name for Optimus?
-
I’m not sure I understand what you mean with the graphics switcher feature.
Is there a link you can post, I’ll do some digging for you in the laptop to test...but need to know what I’m testing.
Edit: okay I see it posted on the Gigabyte website. I’m still not quite sure, but it does sound like Optimus in similar laptops.
Does anyone have a laptop that includes Optimus? This laptop only shows RTX 2080 Super in the Device Manager under Display Adapters.
Also, I know Eluktronics promotes a MUX switch that is activated via BIOS. It’s basically a way to only use the onboard video for battery conservation, instead of the dedicated graphics card (2080S) for full power/performance. I’ll have to tinker with it. I think Optimus does this on-the-fly? Not 100% sure, but I think they are different.
Edit 2: I guess it’s their name for Optimus...see image from Gigabytes promo. Any way you’d like me to test it? Seems fairly straight forward. You can switch between onboard graphics or dedicated graphics via the Aorus Control Center software.

Someone please correct me if I am missing something here, but this was part of the reason I chose the i7. The other reason is that I am generally happy with having a slightly less-than-best CPU, as long as I’ve maxed the GPU available.
The i9 is faster faster on the base clock, and only faster on the boost clock if can keep the thermals down, which is tough in a laptop. Maybe using liquid metal would allow this. I may actually try liquid metal in the future, but decided to avoid it this go-around due to worrying if I would have to repaste often. Time between repasting liquid metal is still debated, but the results seem pretty awesome.
The i9 will reach 5.3ghz only if the thermals are below 65*C. Not gonna happen in a laptop. It will reach 5.2ghz from 65*C-85*C. Very achievable, but if goes over 85*C, it clocks at 5.1ghz. The base clock is 2.4ghz.
The i7 reaches 5.1ghz. Maybe I’m missing thermal limits on this one, but I don’t see any. The base clock on this is 2.3ghz.
They both have the same amount of cache, cores, threads, and TDP (45W).
The thermals I was getting with my i7-10875h were 80-85*C with the Gelid thermal paste. Keep in mind, this is a brand new laptop, with no time to collect dust in the fans and heatsinks.
The price difference is like $600. You’re looking at about a 100mhz (~4%) difference, maybe higher if you can get your thermals in check in a tough environment.

Anyone know the power draw at the wall for this laptop.
-
The cost difference is rather stupid and always has been in the laptop generations, its the only way to get actual desktop performance of a K processor though. The i9 is unlocked (HK) so it will NOT throttle unless the temp hits the thermal limit set with in the bios which is usually set close to the CPU thermal limit of 100c. The i7 (h) is locked so you will NOT be able to control the clocks outside of the power profiles allowed within the bios and their profiles meaning it will clock down on its own outside your control.
Higher CPU speed = higher frame rates if the GPU has any performance headroom left and the game has proper optimization.h2knacho likes this. -
So any info aboit temps ,noise level on the Aorus 17x on full load/gaming?
Im kind of tempted to try it out ,i own a Msi gt75 9sg atm and idk if it worth going for the 10th and the rtx 2080S atm. -
There’s a link to a reddit post where I list some temps and benchmarks. Noise level is high, no decibel measurements we’re taken.
-
Another week and nothing. I am on the edge to just cancel but pretty torn.
-
I’m feeling for you bud. You were my mental support when I placed this order and had to wait around forever wondering if it was going to come in. Hoping it turns out for the best. Keep the updates coming.

Great news buddy!
Nope. No RTX game code for me. -
Mind if I ask where you ordered from?
-
Sure, from HIDEvolution through Amazon.
-
Gotcha. You must’ve ordered really early.
I ordered directly from HID along with customization, but when I ordered, there was already a preorder date of July 20, so I’m expecting mine to land in mid-August at earliest.
Did you request any customization? -
The first order was around May 11th but was canceled around 5 days later due to incorrect pricing then I resubmitted a day or two after the cancel, basically around 2 months ago. No real customization as it should arrive with Gelid Extreme paste, I already own several SSD's that I will just swap over from my X7V7DT.Last edited: Jul 19, 2020kylera likes this.
