Heads up to potential customers: The preorder label is gone from HID and Xotic. GenTechPC still says it's a preorder on their site.
-
Shows active on NewEgg too from HIDEvolution.
-
No delivery for me today, UPS pulled a reschedule right before delivery deadline even after it was paid for next day air. Called and no live customer service is available due to COVID, what a crock.
-
Man, you’re really being put through the wringer with this!
I am assuming your order isn’t international? Mine is, and I seriously hope I face only half the shipping issues you’ve dealt with! -
Not international just California to Missouri, but it went to Kentucky for some reason
. Says a reschedule for tomorrow, we shall see. I will post up if it arrives.

Going by your signature, I’m going to assume that this is not your first Gigabyte laptop. I got a question that I think you might be able to answer: why do you think the Aorus line doesn’t seem to have the market share that other brands do? When I go through posts in this forum and in Reddit, most people talk about Clevo, TongFang, Alienware, Razer, MSI and more recently, Lenovo.
I mean...I chose and bought this laptop because I wanted something with a lot of oomph and as big a screen as feasible. My first choice was the MSI GT76, but the mandatory power dongle was the ultimate dealbreaker and seeing how there are two power ports on the Aorus pretty much made this the better choice...and even better, anecdotes that you can still run the laptop with just one adapter albeit at reduced performance practically sealed the deal.
Ideally I would take a desktop but I am a contractor far away so if my contract isn’t extended, I don’t have to deal with the logistics of moving desktop components back home.
Even online, it seems like there aren’t anywhere near as many raves or rants, founded or unfounded, for Gigabyte compared to other brands -
In my experience the high end DT models from Aorus/Gigabyte are just hard to get in your hands due to the availability as it seems they do not make as many and their primary region is around their own area (Tiawan). Very few seem to make it into the US compared to other manufactures, they are worth it though. I had to pursue my X7V7DT from Dubai because I couldn't get one in the US with the specs I wanted.
I originally tried the Aorus X7V7DT because I saw a middle line that still offered great performance, quality and thought out design without too much sacrifice. I will say I have been really impressed with it in every category and don't regret that purchase at all. Because of this I felt it was worth it to wait for the new 17x as it just looks to carry the same well balance. I am confident the product will provide a feel of quality and the performance wont require some voodoo crafting or crappy software, just alter the profile, test it and go. Ultimately it won't require constant messing about taking away from the pleasures you expect when you finally have time to sit down and focus on some fun. That matched with HIDEvolution I feel pretty confident.
I do like MSI systems and have owned a few but their overall quality and function is more for pure performance, like no flexibility with the adapters. Nothing wrong with that though if its what you are after with sacrifice of other pleasures.kylera likes this. -
UPS has some sort of Next Day Air hub in Kentucky. You can ship something NDA in your same state, and they will fly it to Kentucky, then back to your destination state.GTVEVO likes this.

HID has a new i9 entry with a preorder - late August tag.
Same price at $3899, but with a 300hz screen instead of 240hz. Everything else is identical.GTVEVO likes this. -
Looks like the code is built into Geforce experience, try this if you want

Nevermind you still need a code.Last edited: Jul 22, 2020 -
It has arrived, I have some configuration changes to make but a quick run granted some good performance. Not bad for stock CPU configuration all 8 cores at 4.4ghz and 1 core at 5.3ghz, max cpu temp was 80c so there is a little room to go futher.

I paid extra for extra cooling from HID, and now I can’t wait for my order to ship!GTVEVO likes this. -
Time spy on same settings as above.
-
Small overclock just to stabilize 2ghz on GPU and 4.6 on CPU (all 8 cores), temps are still ok but I don't think I will make it to 5ghz on all cores without metal paste which I prob won't do on this system. I expect 4.8 will prob be the ceiling but the GPU should have some left as its perfectly stable and very cool.
BTW, the keyboard is great and I have been playing games on a single 330 adapter with no performance issues or stupid notifications about anything.

Great post. Solid temps. Glad it worked out for you bud.

A Spanish website did a review of this model: https://www.profesionalreview.com/2020/05/28/aorus-17x-yb-review/
You can run it through Google Translate for English. It's quite readable overall.GTVEVO likes this. -
A new baseline, no overclock just max in control center. Max draw was 350 watts, pretty sure a single 330 adapter is good for 400 watts and previously on my clevo's wouldn't throw the breakers until about 440 watts.

Hi. I got mine as well. I'm happy with it so far. Im only using 1 power supply & have been happy with its performance with just one. May I ask how you got that in game display of the temp, FPS, power draw & RAM usage please? I only get FPS through my Steam settings or UPlay settings.
Thanks! -
Usually that is done using RTSS in combination with MSI Afterburner, just install Afterburner and RTSS(its bundled) and then configured the OSD.
-
The snap shot above is from the 3DMark application result and not the website, you do have to pull down to display the "Monitoring Graphs", if that is what you are referring too. As for power draw I use an outlet meter instead of the OSD result from something like HWINFO simply because I want to see the raw pull to ensure I wasn't stressing the adapters too far. Once the power gets into the system its not exact science due to power efficiency, I have a feeling these adapters are more efficient than the older delta adapters that have been around for many years. Just my hypothesis though at the moment nothing concrete yet.

Bahhhh who knew
-
Has anyone opened up their Aorus yet to swap RAM or SSD? If yes, is opening it up pretty straightforward?
-
Yes I added my SSD's, the ram is exposed at the middle bottom and the drives are positioned under a plate on the right hand side with proper cooling pads for your 2 x 2280 m.2 disks and then 2.5 on the left. Picture below from the submitted review.

Right, but what I was wondering is whether it’s pretty straightforward to remove the bottom case in order to mess with the insides.
Like, is removing screws the only thing to do? Or do you need extra tools besides a screwdriver?GTVEVO likes this. -
Yes just removing the bottom screws with the correct size torx bit then work it loose easily from one side. All screws seem the same size but nothing special just with care.

Thanks for the reply. Some laptops seem to require more than just a screwdriver and a spudger to get the bottom case off, hence the question.
Edit: you think this laptop will run plugged in without the battery?Last edited: Jul 25, 2020 -
Say, how feasible is undervolting on this laptop? Or is it disabled?
-
Undervolting is enabled and works normally though XTU. I haven't tried throttle stop yet but its usually a better alternative for sustaining your settings and clock profiles. The control center level only changes power levels, it doesn't change clocks or voltage at the moment.kylera likes this.
-
Is it possible to set a cap on battery charge with the software that came with the laptop? Or do you need to download something else?
-
Yes, its part of the control center software to set a charge policy, screen shot below
-
Very nice! I can't wait to get my hands on mine already!
-
Heads up guys, looks like Xbox game pass is free for the first month from Aorus promo. Link below to instructions to activate.

That’s great! That said, I have a massive backlog on Steam as it is
-
How much space would you say is there for the 2.5" HDD bay? I'd love to put in a 5TB BarraCuda drive, but it's 15mm thick.
-
I don't think its possible but next time I take the cover off I will see if I can measure it accurately enough to know for sure.
-
Appreciate it.
I also sent an email to HID asking about it. Will share it with you if I get a reply first. -
HID got back to me. Apparently the space isn’t tall enough - it would bulge out by 3-4mm.
Technically feasible as in the hard drive can be recognized but the bottom case wouldn’t fit
-
Ya makes sense, to fix it just pay for a 4tb ssd that 9.5mm
-
Just threw down a new test, turned out pretty good. 4.8-5.0ghz , cpu temps below. Not too bad but prob need AC to high sustained 5ghz.
-
Impressive GPU score, highest I've seen from a laptop.
What are your Core/Memory frequencies on this one? -
Looks like 3d mark states 2160 but I would say that was the peak and averaged just over 2100. Memory was +300
-
Just purchased one of these today, and was curios if anyone has links for where I can purchase another set of 330w power adapter so I can keep a set at my office.
-
I would reach out to HIDEvolution, the bricks do have a better design than the older ones.
-
I actually called HIDEvolution this morning and they wouldn't sell me any power adapters because I didn't buy my laptop through them; got a better deal on my 17X through my local microcenter.
I did find what looks like the correct adapter from this one vender, so I ordered 2 at $185 each.
I think these will be the correct ones because the listing includes both model numbers my OEM ones have.

In other news, thanks for posting your review of your 17X, it's what made me pull the trigger on mine. I had an Alienware m17 r3 with the 150w 2080 super Max P, and also tried the Area 51m r2. The m17 r3 just wasn't as fast as I was hoping barely faster than a 2070 super max P and the 51m r2 can't game with out both power adapters plugged in, whereas the Arous 17X will run the 2080 super at 150w vs 200w with one power adapter. Super handy feature for when you don't want to bring bother power adapters around.Last edited: Sep 16, 2020GTVEVO likes this. -
Dont be sad, if bought from a Clevo reseller, they would be over $200 easily.
-
I see, I didn't realize they would do that but its great that you found some that look to be the same design. Your welcome, I do have a ticket open with Gigabyte since I am unable to save custom keyboard led settings for specific games as I could with my other models. Hopefully they fix that soon but have you noticed this?
-
Just tested it on mine and it's working fine with control center ver. 20.07.15.03 and keyboard firmware 1.1.3.1.
Also just wondering if anyone else is running throttlestop on their machines and if it's working fine with XTU installed? Normally I would uninstall XTU when using throttlestop, but the Aorus Control Center app won't open on my machine if XTU isn't installed. -
I do have throttlestop installed and running at boot with under volt only and max power settings updated.
Control center uses the XTU framework so be aware if you remove the azure ai and control center settings wont work.

My keyboard firmware is 1132 so be aware I think its caused some sort of incompatibility, maybe I can downgrade. But I have custom games listed but nothing I can save for different profiles or games of my own.

Good to know I'll stick with the keyboard firmware I'm at then.
I noticed my 300hz display supports g-sync in the Nvidia settings. I can't find any documentation mentioning this feature anywhere but I have it enable and it seems to be working. Do you have the same option in yours?
