Humm, mine only supports gsync for external monitors, and its a 240hz monitor not a 300hz. You might have a newer model which sounds crazy since I waited so long. However the 240hz refresh is so fast that I don't think I would see much benefit with gsync, I can notice on my predator x34 monitor with gsync enabled though.

Hello, whats your max temps during gaming for some hours on this machine? Is the 4.4+ghz consistent?
-
Well it depends on the game but it seems to target low 80s but will creep up if the AI switches fan profiles on me. It seems to do this quite often even when I disable it which usually leads me to killing it.
-
Is that on 4.6ghz or 4.4ghz? Low 80s i mean
-
Stock clocks, it depends on the game I am just stating the average. Any specific game you want me to test?
-
Could you perhaps tell me your CPU and GPU temps and FPS while playing dayz standalone (max settings everywhere) for round about 30min? Starring at the grass is also fine
-
Looks like an average of upper 70s but I saw spikes in the lower 80s for the CPU, the GPU was always less than 70 it seemed. A couple of images below.
Turned off AI and ran gaming fan profile all the way through.

Thats pretty good tbh, this is all stock? How much ghz did your boost to? By gaming fan you mean 100% fan speed? Do you have a way to measure the decibel? Lousy phone app at the fan exit would be enough for me to compare it to my previous i7 10700k (x170 smg)which i had to limit to 4.4ghz to reach your temps
-
CPU is running -90 offest for max stability and liquid metal paste on the CPU and ICD on the GPU. This was just the gaming fan profile, not full speed. The 10980HK was mostly running between x44 and x48 and moving in between speeds on the stock clocks during game play, looks like the wattage was around 77 watts.
According the the gaming fan profile chart it was around 65-70% fan speed -
Oh i see, your metal paste was applied by yourself? Do you have instructions if you did? How was it when you bought it? Temps etc
Thank you for your quick and pleasent answers -
When I purchased the temps weren't bad at all, posted several bench mark runs with them. After you use metal though nothing else can perform just as well in a DT type laptop. If you can do it safely and without voiding your warranty from your vendor (HIDEvolution allows) you only have gains to achieve. Plus as we move into more and more cores with less area to dissipate the heat its just getting harder to control, the metal paste does help with the spikes and the transfer of the heat while the fans ramp up.
Yes, I applied it. I follow a very safe method of measurement and test fit before actually applying along with a layer of non-conductive material that surrounds the conductive to ensure if it would move it wouldn't be able to move into an area that is conductive or any exposed copper.Entropytwo likes this. -
Alright, my x170 was having Kryonaut pasted by my reseller XMG, as we don't have HID presence in europe. It was reaching a maximum of 78 degrees while maintaining 4.4ghz on all cores. Any higher multiplier pushes it over 80. By your benchmarks i was curious how well your laptop performed and now i know alot more. I can imagine that the i7 10700k would perform at a higher clock speed with metal paste as well while keeping the same temperature steady.
Thank you alot!GTVEVO likes this. -
Hello everyone, glad I found this thread on this laptop. So some backstory: I'm coming from a Toshiba Qosmio X305(owners thread on this website as well; very helpful) bought in 2009. Has served me well despite a motherboard/power issue days after the 1 year warranty expired. After SSD upgrades, fan changes, additions of bluetooth, an upgrade to Windows 10, and USB 3.0 ports, it was time for an upgrade.
Fast forward to now, I settled on the Aorus 17x as to me it offers the best in specs and price. I game frequently and just need something to last me for the next 3-5 years till I build a dedicated tower(life may change these plans). The AORUS 17X YB-8US6432MP seems to be my sweet spot but has been out of stock and on pre-order as of late. Just learned that XoticPC just got these in stock but have never ordered from them. Has anyone had experience with this company? Thanks in advance and look forward to contributing to this thread. -
I have no personal experience with XoticPC but if I'm not mistaken they are an authorized reseller of Gigabyte so I would have no problem order through them.
-
I would do a search as I did see at least one other vendor with them in stock.
If I was to purchase I would confirm that they have them in hand at their location and the shipment date, not just a tracking number print but actual activity showing it has been picked up and started moving. I have never ordered from XoticPC so I can't speak from experience but there have been posts on here that I have read, just take into consideration that you don't normally hear of the great experiences only the bad. -
PSA: do not download the bios update in Aorus Control Center or you'll actually be downgrading. I wasn't paying attention and went from version FB04 down to FB02; currently waiting on Gigabyte Support to provide me with ver. FB04 again.
-
I am surprised it actually allowed you to install it.
-
Good news Gigiabyte has add the newest bios to their website and the Aorus Command Center.

Looks like a few additional updates with control center and AI have been released, going to try them out today. Hopefully they fix a few of the missing features I created a ticket around.

Nothing is fix, still cant add custom keyboard lighting for my own games and no light bar integration like the X9 provides.Last edited: Sep 20, 2020 -
Any idea why I can't control display brightness while on the 2080 super?

Hello all, seems my Aorus 17X journey ends here. Story to follow hopefully not too long.
Since my last post I tried ordering the XoticPc.com, as upon checking with one of the sales reps, they confirmed that they had the Aorus 17X on hand in stock and processing would take anywhere from 10-13 days. Ordered on Friday, they charged my card, and I waited for the status to update. Close to a week later I decided to check with a rep on the status. Turns out they order all their Aorus models to-order and has a 30 day lead time so I was looking at getting one early to mid October. I understand everything with COVID and shipping lines created delays and couldn't fault them for that. Asked what happened to the stock that they previously received(note that in the preceding weeks, this was on pre-order but that changed and they had confirmed stock just before I ordered), turns out there were units on hand when I placed my order but those were allocated to previous orders older than mine. Even at the time of this chat there were no indications that the unit was out of stock nor was on pre-order. This got me uncomfortable as no one would have let me know of this situation unless I had put in the inquiry. I checked with other sellers and they were also out of stock or back-ordered. I even put in an inquiry with Gigabyte themselves and they could only confirm ETA end of September for units to be back in stock in their storefront. At this point I had to go with a plan B and that was an Alienware Area 51M R2.
I configured one in the color I liked and with specs I thought were reasonable/close to the YB-8US6432MP. Turns out Dell has a 17% of sale going on until the 24th and was able to get a i7 10700K, 2080Super, 32gig DDR4 3200 and similar hard drive set up for a difference of $24 from what I paid on XoticPc after tax!! Safe to say I ordered it 3 days ago and it's on is way with free expedited shipping. I feel much better about this as with future upgrades, I can use a desktop CPU and also use the proprietary Alienware Graphics Adaptor for next gen video cards.
As of this writing the Gigabyte store front no longer lists the Aorus 17X; it previously showed the 3 models as out of stock now I get a 404 page error. Safe to say I may have dodged a bullet there as it looks like the issues with supply may be greater than Gigabyte seem to let on. While possibly not XoticPc's fault, they did not leave a good first impression on this in my opinion.GTVEVO likes this. -
Everyone, I have had a ticket open for a while as I am unable to custom program the keyboard for different game profiles like my previous Aorus models. I was assuming others didn't have this issue as it was a problem with the shipped keyboard firmware not campatible with the control center software. I created a ticket and this was the response I was sent?
What I am wondering is do you have ability to add custom keyboard profiles for different games outside the hardcoded list? Its presented in the documentation as the image below which matches my other models. Notice the profile boxes for your customizations with animation being custom1.

Could someone be so kind and share 200W vbios for rtx2080super? Can be via private msg. I own Msi ge75 with 10875h and rtx2080super but the vbios is only 150W and I want to try higher tdp rated vbios for it.
Thanks
Maybe @GTVEVO , @h2knacho as I saw your post with 200w RTX2080SLast edited: Oct 11, 2020 -
I should be able to link one later but our bios could have multiple power plans as 1 ac adapter gives you 150 watts, 2 ac adapters enables 200 watts. I am not sure how they enabled this feature but just for your awareness.

Thanks, waiting
I think that it is not your vbios but maybe EC that controls power that is allowed to be pull from a card and power supply -

One more question, in your Aorus there is no Gsync? -
The GPU supports GSYNC yes, not all panels support it in the 17x though.
-
Ok, thanks
-
Did you have any luck?
-
Didn't try it yet as I don't have much time now at home. I think I will try at weekend.
But one more question regarding your previous post about gsync, as I red it once again and I think you didn't understand me correctly.
My question should be: Is your laptop panel gsync enabled, or you have muxles only(Optimus only based system). I didn't ask if the card work with gsync monitors via connecting them to the laptops hdmi, dp ports.
Thanks -
My system has a switch so it run via iGPU or dGPU, the 240hz panel doesn't support gsync. The same model with 300hz does support it according to previous posts. It appears the dGPU does support GSYNC if your monitor or internal panel does.
-
@GTVEVO
Thank you. I will raport as soon as I fash the vbios. -
Anyone else recently have issues with running your panel at the native 240hz? 244hz is perfect but the native 240 almost appears the timing is off with some interference on the right side of the monitor. If I roll back to a much earlier NVIDIA driver I don't have the issue?
Anyone recently lost control of the fn+f7 f8 f9 volume keys on their system. Mine no longer work and I have the sneaky suspicion its due to some recent windows updates.
UPDATE: I re-installed an older control center (no change) then the last official version of the Nvidia driver noted in control center and then upgraded control center to the latest official version and I now have a clear screen and volume functions work.Last edited: Dec 18, 2020 -
Do any of you have any issues with battery drain after shut down? When i switch it on after a week or 2, battery is down by about 30-40%
I've tried many things such as turning off hibernate, fast boot, etc but nothing seems to help.Last edited: Dec 18, 2020 -
I can't say I have tested this but I will try to unplug tonight and see if I experience any battery draining.
-
Crap someone used my laptop last night without it being plugged in (xmas shopping) so I will repeat the test overnight until I have a good result to share.
-
My battery might be dead unfortunately. On the Aorus control center, the battery section says to replace the battery. Called the warranty number on the purchase website & i was told they will collect the laptop & replace it as its with 12 months since purchase.

Wow already, I did complete a test last night and if I lost anything it was only 1% which is prob drain at startup as I have an external monitor plugged in along with every usb port being used.

Do any of you have the screen flickering issues, especially on the right of the monitor, after installing newer NVidia drivers? When I install the driver from the Aorus control center, I don't have any issues, but when I install the latest drivers from nvidia site, I have this issue. The problem is, the control panel installs the 451.67 driver, which is dated July 2020, & this driver causes the floating trees glitch in cyberpunk. It is resolved on installing the latest drivers from Nvidia website (460.89, dated December 2020), but this causes the screen to flicker & horizontal lines on display. I have tried changing from 240Hz to 60Hz, with no effect. Anyone have any suggestions?

Does anyone know what panel the 17X with the 300hz display uses? Im looking to check the brightness spec on it.
-
Yes, its past a specific driver that isnt approved by aorus. Clock your screen to 244 or 62 and it will go away. Nvidia has screwed something up bad.

How to clock it @ 244 or 62? I can only choose 240 or 60. Can you please guide me with this? Thanks

Here is a video that should help you.

Many thanks. Is it safe to run it at 244 Hz, when the max the screen can support is 240?

Yes its completely safe as long as you have a clear picture.Lolaholic likes this.
