So I contacted Aorus a few times over the last couple of days, and I finally got a meaningful answer from them. They said that it isn't just a matter of giving a driver to enable G-Sync, they said that the laptop also needs a license for G-Sync support (They most likely have to pay a licensing fee to Nvidia for G-Sync support), so to get G-Sync on these new laptops the companies had to pay Nvidia for licensing, even though our old laptops can support G-Sync we never (and therefore the companies never) paid a license for our laptops.

I was really pissed when I first found out that my brand new laptop won't support G-Sync, but their reason for not supporting it is understandable. They're a company and if they now have to pay a license for all the laptops they previously sold they would lose money.
With all of that, I'm fine with my laptop not supporting G-Sync as they did have a valid and understandable reason not to support it on their old models. They (Aorus) also said that they forwarded my message to an engineer and he will evaluate whether there is a chance of getting a paid upgrade to the new model in the future.

If a paid upgrade program does come out that allows me to upgrade my laptop to the X7 Pro-Sync I would definitely do it

Interesting stuff, which does indeed indicate that the only difference between them is...software. And even if Aorus would have to Nvidia to have G-sync enabled, I wouldn't be surprised if someone made some kind of "unlocker" available even if Aorus doesn't do it (free or paid).

Hey guys. Been a while since I've been on here. An hour ago the windows 10 reservation app popped up in my icon tray and I made a reservation. My main concern with the upgrade is the driver compatibility with the x7 pro. Hopefully Aorus will have updates in the near future for it.

Is anyone else planning to upgrade to win10?

Anyone know if the new Pro sync x7 has an IPS panel? It will do 75 hz refresh right? So isn't that a different panel than what I the X7 pro CF1?

I think all the recent (Jan - thru now) have had IPS panels. Seems the latest one is too, just does 75Hz. Sweet panel indeed

I was going to wait for the G-Sync version of the X7 to show up but I managed to grab an X7 pro for $1800 shipped. I'll gladly pay $1800 with the same hardware specs minus the G-Sync.

Curios, am I the only one using the Aorus X7 Pro as a workstation also besides as a gaming machine? After all, it is a very powerful 17" laptop and with SLI disabled and fans set to ECO, the thing is almost completely silent but still has great performance. And with the new IPS panel it also has a great screen that isn't just for gaming. And the keyboard isn't all that bad either. Battery time is of course not all that great, but who buys a 17" performance laptop as a road warrior anyway?

That $1800 Aorus was to good to be true. When I received the unit only one of the SSDs would detect. It would only detect 1 Nvidia 970M. After reformatting and reseting the bios it still only detected 1 970m. I ended up returning it and ordered an X7 Pro Sync. I didn't see an option where you can disable one gpu in the bios. It only showed 1 970m in the device manager.

Well, they shipped it USPS instead of FedEx and they denied it at my local FedEx office, which was my delivery location. So, now it is being shipped back to sender and will have to wait another week or two. Sucks and very disappointing

yep. Right click the desktop screen and select nvidia control panel. Got to 3d settings i think and select "enable SLI'. For some reason, and my first Aorus X7 came like this, it comes SLI disabled. Really strange for Gigabyte to let this happen from the factory. Many people don't have the technical prowess to figure this out. much less know if SLI is enabled or not.

Anyone having trouble with the on board speakers after running headphones? Seems mine don't like to come back on after using the analog audio jack. Its hit or miss. Reinstalling drivers didn't seem to do a damned thing...

I double and triple checked this. Even in fresh system restore it'll open Nvidia Control Panel. There's no option to enable SLI. I honestly think that the unit had a defunct 970m. I was considering of possibly doing a warranty claim through Aorus but I'd rather not go through that mess and decided to return it.

It is the newest version for our laptop. The X5 has a newer version, 1.3.7

I bought 2 X7 Pros, one of them shipped with a dead gpu. The laptop would still detect the GPU but whenever you try and use it, it would cause graphical glitches. Sent it for repairs on 19th of May (they didn't want to exchange it), still haven't gotten it back.

The website is way outdated. Here is where you can find all the latest drivers for the X7: http://driverupdate.gigabytenb.com/record/X7.xml, the X7 Pro is under X7v3wb (for Windows 8) and X7v3w7 (for Windows 7)

Received my Aorus X7 pro SYNC. I returned my old X7 pro since it was in the return window.

Internals are pretty much the same. G-Sync is pretty amazing on fast paced games.

I went ahead and opened her up to upgrade the RAM. This unit had G-Skill DDR3 1866ram. I have 16GB Corsair DDR1866 sitting around. System booted fine with 32gb DDR1866 no issues. I installed 3x M-Sata Crucial M550 512GB and used them in RAID 0. In the 2.5" I have a 1TB EVO 850 I use for running Yosemite OSX (I'll open another thread on this. It's a work in progress but mostly everything works)
I did an IC Diamond repaste. The stock paste horrible. They overdid the paste. My temps did drop 5-10c depending on the tasks. Playing Games the CPU doesnt throttle. CPU temps would be around 90C and GPU temps 75-80C

So far so good! I decided on getting the X7 pro compared to the X5 since I mainly use this for video editing and gaming. OSX utilizes both 970Ms for openCL and CUDA. :)

Got my pro-sync yesterday too. Installing all my games. Haven't played yet. I had HID evolution reoaste my cpu also and added more ram to bring it to 24gb. So far it seems the fans are quieter, or maybe it's just my imagination. Thing has been silent since u turned it on, but haven't gamed yet though. Will give a review later after firing Witcher up. Would be interested to hear about installing Yosemite on this also. I love the Mac mail program more that.W8 mail....

How do you tell if g-sync is active? Is there some setting you have to enable? What is the max refresh of the monitor on the g-sync version of the X7-Pro G-sync?

Gdmaddog- you can tell g-sync is active by the Nvidia control panel. Same place you activate and deactivate SLI. The refresh of the monitor is 75hz!

Can tell a difference in smoothness and action so far.

Hmm, so 3 months later, and G-sync is an option that I missed out on. Don't get me wrong, I love my Aorus X7 Pro. And people can't believe I have such a powerful machine in such a slim chassis, but still. You always want the greatest and latest.

I do hope that one day they release a software upgrade for G-Sync for those buyers that don't have it.

Got mine a couple of weeks ago. I already have a adequate backpack which fits the laptop properly but looking into getting a neoprene sleeve...
Its just that because of the exhausts giving it a bit more length, was wondering if anyone knew neoprene sleeves that definitely fits the X7 Pros?

Also was still looking at the B7 backpack. Is it worth it?

If you are in the US then HIDevolution should have them
    http://www.hidevolution.com/chicony-200w-power-adapter-a11-200p1a.html

A guy there called Ted is super helpful.

If you are in the UK like me or outside of the US then I am not sure where exactly but try and search for:

    "Chicony 200W Power Adapter A11-200P1A"

I think sometimes they are branded as Samsung instead of Chicony.
And make sure its not a 4pin connector! ( I think the Samsung ones have the 4ppin connector which is the wrong type for the Aorus X7 Pro...)

I got he Aorus backpack off Amazon for $150 or so. It is a really nice backpack. It has tons of extra space inside after you store peripherals, power supplies, mouse, headphones Etc. the compartment sleeve that holds the laptop fits perfectly, but there is a ton of space. They could have made it smaller, but I guess people like to put other things in there. It is really high quality as far as materials go. I recommend it.

It should have plenty of space to accommodate the X7 Pro in there, but I cant confirm it since I do not own that bag...

I can confirm that the Razer Utility Backpack which should be smaller that the Tactical bag does fit the X7 Pro. I had this bag when I had my Blade 14" and liked its simple and all black look, but was worried that it wouldn't fit the X7 Pro. But it just about fit in the laptop compartment of the bag :D
    http://www.amazon.com/Razer-RC21-00...sim_147_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=1E35YAD9JMJMVT2P682T

Got the Belkin 17" neoprene sleeve but its not a great fit, surprisingly there is a little too much space in there...
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Belkin-Neop...=1435672615&sr=8-1&keywords=belkin+17"+sleeve

PS: had to upgrade to X7 Pro Sync from the Razer Blade 14 (2014) I loved the RB14 and its form factor was amazing (black macbook like unibody construction.) but when I saw 970M Sli combined with G-Sync, I had to make the swap! Now my slight OCD is playing up because all my peripherals and the bag is Razer and the laptop is not... Still fighting the urge not to make an "unnecessary" purchase of the B7 backpack and the Aorus M7 mouse and mouse pad, and the gigabyte H3X headset... Also Aorus keyboard light is white, why on earth did they make the lighting on the Aorus M7 mouse BLUE???!! I can't handle all these inconsistencies... @_@
