I get the reply from AORUS Taiwan. They confirm the x7 G-SYNC upgrade project with payment will be launched.
But the date and fee have not been decided yet.TheFallenPenguin likes this. -
I bought my X7-Pro Gsync (yep I got one!!!) for a big trip this month and after I got it, discovered it barely fit my old MSI backpack (came with my GT70). But I was worried about corner damage, and being able to hold all the stuff I need for my trip. Spent a lot of time researching this. Fry's electronics had Everki bags, but not the Titan, I was impressed with the quality of the messenger bags, so I took a chance on the Titan.
For those looking for a better (more durable) backpack, (that doesn't scream steal my expensive gaming laptop) I just got this one and its worth every penny.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005LMWP78?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00
I own several backpacks and contemplated just using my older one that was slightly too small (barely zipped closed, no padding at corner here zipper was so I feared corner damage). What finally sold me was the backpack has checkpoint zipper feature (so I don't have to expose it to TSA shenanigans).
Glad I did. X7 fits easy, zippers are insane strong. Great padding, lots of room and most importantly the MOST COMFORTABLE backpack I have ever had on. I loaded this down with my X7, my Surface Pro 3, power supplies, a book, 2 WD 2tb drives, and a 52800mAH battery and had room for more (I tried to overload it). It was more comfortable than my old favorite with half the stuff/weight loaded. Its really well made.
I was worried it would be too big (and not qualify as "personal item" on plane'), its not. It doesn't look much larger than my other backpack, (until I threw my jacket inside with everything else, although it fit easy which I could never do with all my stuff loaded before) I will wear my jacket until I get to my seat. It could be your ONLY carryon if you want, but I plan to throw it under the seat (after I remove the laptop). I will report back after my trip as to my success.
If you are looking for a great professional looking backpack that is not "gamery" this is it. (Yes there is orange, but its only on the inside, makes it easy to see stuff, really the best way to do this). [edited for clarity]Last edited: Jul 6, 2015liljuny likes this. -
I'll go ahead and make another inquiry too lol.liljuny likes this. -
It should be bleeding obvious to Aorus that most people who spend 2-3 grand or more on a high performance laptop are going to spend a little more to get the optimum performance out of it.
However, it is a two way street, how can people express interest in a completely vague concept?
1. What is the cost outline?
2. Can this process be completed remotely? (i.e over the internet)
3. If not, does it involve shipping the unit back to Taiwan for upgrade, or can it be completed in an Aorus service centre? (assuming there is one in the customer's country)
4. Why are they charging in the first place when G-SYNC support was promised for this model before release?
Anyone want to weigh in? Particularly anyone who works for Aorus? -
3- I believe it will be a software upgrade, no shipping required (according to rumor).
4- Cost? Because NVIDIA follows the rule, if your good at something never do it for free...and their tech is REALLY good! They are charging Aorus for the software, so they have to pass it on.
I have the G-Sync version and its worth it. I have 980 SLI on my desktop and I never realized how much tearing I was putting up with until I played on my X7.
I hope NVIDIA lets them upgrade all the rest of the X7 owners. -
Oh and why is it software only on the X7? Because the GPU connects directly to the screen. Desktop monitors have controllers (such as for your on screen display, brightness, color, contrast, etc...). Hardware is needed on desktops monitors to get it to sync, but my understanding is with the X7 (and others) they don't have that extra layer, so the GPU can directly control the monitor. So, its just a software patch needed. I don't think Aorus is trying to make anything, my sources say they are not marking up the G-sync version price much more than their cost to NVIDIA.
-
2. Not remotely, they're going to have to swap the GPU, CPU and RAM combo module thing (look at 1:33 in the video). You'll see what I mean when you watch this:
3. Can be done at a service centre. If there isn't a service centre in your country then I'm guessing it'll have to be sent to Taiwan.
4. The cost Nvidia added for G-Sync was never included with your purchase. So the Pro-Sync model has the cost of G-Sync added, normal Pro does not.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR EVERYONE:
I've recently found out that there IS a hardware difference between the X7 Pro and the X7 Pro-Sync. The GPUs in the G-Sync model has a different HWID than the non G-Sync model:
G-Sync 970m: 1618
Non G-Sync 970m: 13D8
This change is achieved by changing specific resistors on the board to ones that have different ohm values (They just change the whole board they won't bother fiddling with resistors). (Source: http://www.eevblog.com/forum/chat/hacking-nvidia-cards-into-their-professional-counterparts/)
So even though the GPUs are the same, this difference in HWID allows Nvidia differentiate G-Sync and non G-Sync laptops in their drivers. The other difference between the two laptops is that the X7 Pro-Sync has a G-Sync license/cookie in it's BIOS.
In order to have G-Sync enabled you'll need a G-Sync cookie in the BIOS and the correct HWID for your GPU. Maybe a G-Sync GPUs vBIOS as well (not sure if there is a difference in the vBIOS) or if it matters)
I'm not sure if all of this is 100% correct, but it's what I've managed to learn by just reading around and by asking awesome people like Prema.SRT8driver and hellsfire like this. -
I just bought an Aorus x7 pro sync and I'm having some minor issues that I'm wondering are normal or will go away. The fan on the right makes a clicking sound and the screen has a burn in/ghosting effect to it on bright images. Should I return for a new one or is there something I can do to help resolve the issues? Thank you for any replies.
-
-
I played arkham city for about an hour and the clicking seems to have stopped but I'm still getting screen burn in on images that stay up for more than a min. The ghosting/burn in only lasts about 10 secs when the image is removed. So far the laptop runs great with cpu Temps never getting above 71c. Newegg is out of stock of the model I have but I would be willing to go with the x5(even though I want the 970m and a 1080p screen more)
-
-> TheFallenPenguin - thanks for the extra info. My source was a programmer talking code, guess he was talking about what the software could do and probably did not know (or was forbidden to mention) the hardware locks. Figures that NVIDIA would have hardware locks to prevent software only upgrades. (Reminds me of the days when your had to plug in a dongle into your serial port to get certain business software to run... man I am getting old).
I doubt NVIDIA would release the unlocked drivers/code to AORUS owners, once those drivers are in the wild and hackers have their fun, everyone would have them (then that would make NVIDA just like AMD Freesync and they can't have that!) -

Guys,
Trying to get the windows 10 upgrade icon on my new Aorus. Where do we find the Windows 8.1 serial number that came with our laptop? -
On an unrelated note, Aorus has started their G-Sync upgrade program, all you need to do is send them a message regarding the upgrade here: http://support.aorus.com/Question/TechQuery
They will reply with information regarding the pricing in your region, the estimated time it's going to take to do the upgrade (excluding shipping) and the Service Centre that you'll need to send your laptop to, they also mention that all data will be wiped off your laptop during the upgrade. The pricing seems to differ by region, but expect to pay USD $100+ for the upgrade. I can confirm that Aorus will not be launching the upgrade program in South Africa due to an issue with customsLast edited: Jul 18, 2015Vandit likes this. -

The default install for windows 8.1 on the Aorus x7pro appears to be an automatic RAID installation on the 2 Liteon msata drives which is executed when you first turn on your laptop out of the box.
My copy of win 8.1 is completely corrupted/and or destroyed.
It stopped launching for no apparent reason, creating great difficulty retrieving the data contained on it as the operating system does not seem to be recognised in any way.
I have found no copy of win 8.1 or a windows key with my Aorus x7pro with which to create a bootable copy of windows 8.1 USB to attempt repairs.
In the end, I installed win 7 on the SATA 3 drive inside the X7 pro.
When a copy of Windows is purchased with a laptop, there should be nothing mysterious about where your copy of Windows is, what your windows key is & how to access it.
Anyone who has any experience with Windows will know that repairs & complete reinstallations of Windows often become a dead certainty after a period of time for any number of reasons.
This is bound to become a problem for many people eventually, & should be addressed as soon as possible to provide clarity for Aorus owners.
From what I have heard, you do not get much bang for your buck with the free version of windows 10.
I can imagine many people will not be looking to purchase an expensive Windows 10 pro license when they already bought a copy of win 8.1 with the purchase of this laptop. -

I'm about to order a Aorus X7 ProSync, however I'm very confused because I want to get the latest model and I'm very careful because the model from early 2014, the one end of 2014 and the gsync model in 2015 are all very similar and very prone to 'oops, we got that wrong' on reseller websites.
I kind of settles to order at HIDevolution.com, however their model is listed as 'X7PROSYNC–CF 1' while in Europe it's listed as 'X7PROSYNC–CF 2'.
On the amazon store there a 'Aorus X7 PRO V3-CF1' listed as unavailable with a note it has been replaced with the 'Aorus X7 Pro Sync-CF2';
Hence I'm very confused, given the fact that HIDevolution.com is a customization company I think chances are they are selling previous version of the non gsync models however with updated screen panel that makes it gsync compatible. For all I know this could just me a territorial thing, where the CF1 is the US version and the CF2 the European version.
can anyone shed some light on this? -
CF1 and CF2 means configuration 1 and 2. So different harddisks for example.
-
That's all identical, the only difference would be the keyboard.
It's probably just the difference in region, but as a newcomer I can assure you all them X7 v's and iterations is not making it easy.
That's about the only drawback of the Aorus X7 I can see at this stage, a model that shipped originally in 2014 which already is on it's fourth revision mid 2015. That does not inspire confidence. -
If it's listed as ProSync that is the new G-sync model. I ordered my ProSync off of HID evolution. It's the latest one. All the older ones don't have G-sync and aren't called "Pro-Sync"
-
Meanwhile I ordered my Aorus X7 ProSync at HIDevolition with the below specs.
I've been looking at nearly all gaming laptop offerings on the market for the past weeks, read countless of forum threads, reviews, YouTube video's and whatnot. It's just extremely remarkable what Gigabyte did which no other manufacture can or dares, squeezing these kind of specs into a very slick looking 23mm thick aluminum form factor.
I'm aware it does come at the cost of heat and fan noise, but at this level of performance all gaming laptops are bound to generate some serious noise. One particular aspect that cought my eye was the thermal imaging that showed the keyboard and palm-rest are pretty much unaffected by heat, and that's quite remarkable given how thin this device is.
But that's all hearsay and theory; I can't wait to put my decision to go for the Aorus to the test and get my hands on this beast. As an IT engineer and gamer that has assembled desktop rigs for longer than I can remember, I must admit I avoid thinking what kind of desktop I could have assembled with this kind of money, but while its a popular thing to do, it's not a fair comparison in the end...

How loud is the cooling system in real world gaming?

The speakers suck on the X7. You will definitely want a pair of nice headphones. With the over the ear headphones on, you don't hear any fan noise.

Curious. Will the Aorus x7 pro v3 (non sync version) be able to do gsync on an external monitor?
-
Hi Guys,
I have just bought a X7 Pro. The USB3 port on the left of the laptop (between VGA and headphone jack) deosn't pick up any devices (It's not working at all). Is it turned off somehow?
Also, The usb ports that do work don't seem to charge devices? Am I wrong?
Thanks so much! -
I love the X7 Pro v3. I've had it for nearly 6 months and was pleasantly surprised when I first received it with it's premium metal lid and metal top plate around the keyboard. After owning MacBook Pro's for years (with games running on Bootcamp) I was accustomed to the metal build quality and was put off by the pictures of the X7 Pro v3 which gave the impression it was all just plastic (which I hate); boy was I wrong and I'de go as far to say that it looks better than any MacBook Pro. I just wish I had the G-Sync version instead, but then again I value monitor size very highly and have currently played on a 42 inch LG 3D LED 1080p TV (through HDMI 1.3) for the past couple of years (and sit only a metre away lol - I love it).
I now cannot for the life of me consider playing on anything less than 42 inch and because dedicated G-Sync monitors don't appear to go that high in size just yet, I guess I could probably wait for G-Sync maybe in the near future. Perhaps by then Aorus may release an X7 Pro 'v4' with dual GTX 980M SLI with 8GB each (instead of 3GB) and most importantly HDMI v 2.0 (instead of v1.3) for 4K gaming over HDMI at 60Hz (60fps capability) instead of 4K at only 30Hz (30fps capability) which is unplayable. Also Mini Display port v 1.3 instead of v1.2 for the holy grail of 120Hz (120fps capability) at 1080p instead of around 60Hz.Last edited: Jul 28, 2015 -
Anyone tempted to install Windows 10 now it's out?
I'm thinking I should play safe and avoid any potential upsets to my X7 Pro system, at least until after some time.
However part of me is tempted for 1. Direct X 12, and 2. because it is stated that "It’ll run traditional desktop Windows apps, like Windows 7. But it will also run new “universal” apps downloaded from the Windows Store".
Until Aorus announce and release driver updates for full Windows 10 comparability, I guess I should stay well clear until then. But how long will this be as I cannot see any mention on their website unless I'm mistaken. -

You can test the waters by either:
A). Making a complete system image backup first, then install 10 over your current installation of Windows. If no joy, re-image the drive with your backup.
-or-
B). Use a small partition - or even another drive - to install Windows 10 to. Again, if no joy with it, you can format that partition and merge the unallocated space back to the partition on your drive - depending on how you have your partitions set up. -

Sli is broken in win 10 and has been for months..

SLI is enabled when I installed Win 10. What seems to be the issue?
-
Upgraded to Windows 10 the other day. It only took a few minutes. So far everything including SLI seems to work fine. Just getting the start button back is a huge upgrade.
Have any of you heard back from Aorus about getting your systems upgraded for Gsync? I got an email back saying that the support group was going to forward my request to another department at Aorus to handle my request... -
Pricing is different for all regions but seems to be between $100-$250 for the upgrade -
OK took the plunge and upgraded to windows 10.
I first recovered/factory reset the system using the recovery USB stick drive that I had previously created using the Aorus System Backup Recover Tool, then after the system with Windows 8.1 sets itself up for the first time (like on the day when you first received delivery of the unit) I did the Windows 10 Upgrade before doing anything else. I did the upgrade over the internet connection which is probably the slowest option and it did take a while, BUT no where remotely near as long as it does to download driver updates from Aorus with the supplied Aorus Driver update link placed on the Desktop by default - why O why these driver updates take so long to download from Aorus I do not know even though I'm using a 152Mb service on Virgin Media, so I know its not my internet bandwidth.
Anyhow, all driver updates, Windows Updates and Nvidia Experience & Driver updates took an eternity (mostly down to Aorus Driver updates taking forever), but the end result appears to be very good and all appears to be ok for me and all the programs I've installed so far.
SLI and graphic performance all appear to be good. All my devices - drivers & associated software for them, i.e. gaming devices I use such as the the MadCatz R.A.T. 9, Razer Orbweaver & Oroborus (2nd backup mouse), Logitech G19s, Saitek X55 Rhino, Sony Pulse Headset (which still shows up on sound devices and works fine); all seems good so far.
For me, the single most important thing or game which I primarily got the X7 Pro gaming laptop for is Battlefield 3 Multiplayer. At first BF3 appeared to be a bit laggy with screen tearing despite having v-sync enabled in BF3 settings, I then installed BF3 Tools by Realmware, reloaded my previous BF3 Tools Profile and bingo everything was silky smooth again with all Ultra Graphics settings and rock solid 60 fps which I 'cap' at 60 fps anyway to match external LG 60Hz LED display as there's no point overworking GPU if display isn't capable of producing more than 60 fps being native 60Hz refresh... Incidently it's strange that the X7 Pro v3's dual GTX970M SLI GPU's can no doubt output well over 60 fps, yet the built in 17" IPS panel on the X7 Pro v3 is I believe a 60Hz panel that can therefore only draw 60 fps and the HDMI v1.3 port can only handle and output 1080p at 60Hz (30Hz at 4K); the upshot being that despite Fraps or other on-screen fps indicators showing what the GPU's are outputting or capable of outputting, we aren't seeing this with our eyes because the laptop screen and HDMI port can't deliver/show these fps. A little strange?
Back to the upgrade of Win 10 and all in all quite happy so far at this stage. There is the odd little bug/glitch here and there like the first Windows image Backup I did which had an error part the way through, although second attempt worked. Also the Aorus Control Centre's latest software update within Driver Updates won't update as it seems to think there's no internet connection and Command Centre's latest software update does run through but does not reflect this afterwards when checking in the Aorus Drivers Update. Make sure you update the 'Drivers Update' software update first before doing all others.
One thing I was really hoping, was that an issue I have with the X7 Pro's screen staying black on some boot-ups may have gone away. Sadly this random and tempramentle issue still persists as it did on Windows 8.1 with the Aorus X7 Pro... strange! Only thing that I can think may be causing this is because I'm using the latest GeForce Experience supplied Graphics Drivers and not the Aorus Driver update's own supplied drivers which are way behind on version number. The more up to date GeForce Experience Graphics card drivers do seem to make the latest games perform better though but the blank screen issue is troubling but strange how it always boots ok the second attempt after force-powering the switch 'off'.
Is anyone else suffering this occasional 'Boot up to blank/black screen' problem in which the only option is to force power button off then power on again? (very frustrating).Last edited: Aug 2, 2015Vandit likes this. -
I have noticed the black screen too on my Prosync. Weird. Also, the Aorus Prosync that just came out has an IPS panel with a 75hz refresh! -
- It's definitely not Windows 10 upgrade, because it was happening before I upgraded to Windows.
- It's without doubt nothing to do with my external LG LED display because unplugging the external display's HDMI port before powering-on/boot-up makes no difference and as you mention you have similar or same issue while (I presume) your using the X7 Pro's own screen.
- I upgraded and installed a third mSATA SSD in the spare mSATA SSD slot to take full advantage of having 3x SSD's in RAID 0 for greater speed and slightly more capacity. This was done immediately before upgrading to Windows 10, however the problem is nothing to do with the SSD updgrade either because again the problem existed well before installing the SSD.
Could it be a GeForce Experience delivered driver update causing this? The Aorus supplied Graphics driver version made available through their 'Drivers Update' app is a little behind in version number which is not always the best for using with the latest games like Witcher 3 and other late releases. Would be beneficial if Aorus as a gaming notebook manufacturer could be much hotter/quicker on testing and tweaking the latest Nvidia issued drivers for stability and full functionality. After all gaming is their business - especially if scenarios like this blank/black screen phenomenon is or could be something to do with the Nvidea drivers causing conflict with something else and stopping the machine from booting-up successfully on first attemp.
Wondering also if it could be BIOS related as the power-on procedure never gets to the Windows log on screen on first power-on. Yet very confusing how second attempt after a forced 'power-off' always works. Mmmm....
Glad to hear that your Prosync comes with a native 75Hz panel. Any additional 'viewable frames per second' capability is highly desirable and always sort after. I look forward to the point in time where I have a setup where I can game with true maintained 120fps on at least 1080p resolution, hopefully with the next incarnation of Aorus X7 Pro v4 maybe? - it would need Mini Display Port v1.3 from current v1.2 to benefit from this for larger external display gaming (and maybe bump up the dual GTX970M's currently at only 3GB VRAM 'each' to 6GB VRAM 'each' having noticed that intensive demanding games like Dying Light max out the VRAM).Last edited: Aug 3, 2015Vandit likes this. -

I'll monitor this issue closely to see if there's a pattern as to why it happens sometimes.
Also, I've noticed two other small things;
1. The boot up screen showing the Aorus Logo. While the Aorus logo shows up, the F2, F9 and F12 info confirmation at the bottom of the boot-up screen does 'not' always show up on every boot/power-up.
2. Recently, there are occasional boot-ups when some 'thin coulour stripes/bands' show up or flicker on the black boot-up screen briefly before the boot-up process eventually reached the Windows Log-on screen. This actually may or may not have something to do with Windows 10 (and/or having an external display connected). I don't recall seeing this before though. -

I've disabled Windows 'fast start-up' to see how this goes. To many users have had issues from this feature which is on be default. It has added approx. 5 seconds to my boot-up time (from 16 seconds to 21 approx.) but I can live with that.
Here's some info within link:-
http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/6320-fast-startup-turn-off-windows-8-a.html
Quote from link's page:-
"There have been many Windows 8 users complaining about various restart and shutdown issues when Fast Startup (aka: hybrid boot or hybrid Shutdown) is turned on. They report that their computers restart themselves as soon as the sign in screen appears, and some that their computer systems hang while rebooting or shutting down the system.
If you experience any of the issues, then you might turn off "Fast Startup" to see if it was the cause." -
Yeah fast start-up can cause a lot of issues.
When it is enabled your machine basically does a hibernation each time you shutdown. -
Maybe I'm supposed to wipe system/user cache and delete/clean any hibernate file or system page file after disabling fast start-up?
Not had the black screen issue at all today. But I mustn't speak to soon.Last edited: Aug 3, 2015 -
Sounds like typical 'new windows' issues. I'll wait till drivers and software mature a bit. I don't recall by heart but there is some fast boot cache folder you can wipe.
-
I'm so waiting for Aorus to put some 6GB vram into those 970m's. A i7-5700HQ won't be a bad thing either...
-
The next Aorus Xx will probably shoot for 2x GTX980m 4GB or 6GB.
However difficult to say what the limitations are of the form factor.
As with all systems, one can wait forever as there will always be a bigger fish on the horizon...
