I recently got Logitech's n700 lapdesk, and I absolutely love it. It's large and heavy, but it's comfortable, the fan cools both laptop and thighs, and the speakers are really surprisingly good.
EDIT: of course, getting it for just $30 helped..

By the way, are anyone else experiencing adaptive brightness, despite it being disabled in windows power settings? and auto brightness is disabled in gigabyte smart manager.. it is driving me NUTS
-
Try disabling adaptive display in Intel Display Panel.

Oh that sucks :/ I took it to school today and didn't hear them at all with all the talking around, though.
But its being kinda weird. Nvidia notifies me about updates when I have the latest version, some FN keys aren't working after disabling/uninstalling a couple things, my / key makes è's or something like that, and Windows 8 is acting insanely slow. I'm gonna do a recovery and update to 8.1 and see if that helps. If not, my cousin said he can get me Windows 7 Ultimate. I want to stick with 8 because I heard some games get improvements from 8, though. We'll see what happens... -
What about disabling the discrete card on nvidia control panel as I mentioned. Can you guys get better battery life, or not?
-
I've tried this, not sure if I used it correctly but I'm still getting a clicking sound. However it's not when the hard drive is idle, I'm getting it whilst installing games from Steam...
-
I've wanted to create a config like that but I've not been able to successfully alter the config files I have. Could you send me a link to download yours? -
On this subforum there is a thread called Gigabyte u2442n Fan Control- Sortof works. You can find the config file there. Note that if you updated your bios, the registets have changed and the config file will not work properly.
-
Has Gigabyte given any word on a CF2 being available, I imagine with a larger msata drive and more memory?
-
nemt, it would be easier for you to upgrade everything yourself.
I guarantee it will be cheaper, and you don't have to wait. -
That's the conventional wisdom - but I'm not so sure. There doesn't seem to be much of a premium on larger capacity drives in other Gigabyte models. Then again I'll almost definitely be repasting so the warranty is out the window anyway (I'm tempted to just go custom and pay Xotic $35 to do it).
I also don't have the materials to clone msata devices and I feel like clean Windows installs on laptops never quite work right, even with all the original drivers/software. -
Gentech is still offering a free IC Diamond 24 installation. If you prefer Xotic, someone mentioned that he got Xotic to match Gentech's free upgrade.
-
Good to know.
Any idea how much longer Gentech's promotion will last? -
Has anyone actually gotten a P34G with 'upgraded' paste, or repasted yet? If so, what are temps?
-
I repasted with arctic silver 5. Temps went down about 3 degrees.
Sent from my SGH-M919 using Tapatalk 2 -
I'm not sure, you'd have to ask Ken.
I got the repaste but I haven't tested out max temps yet. -
It does work. Performed a clean installation of Windows 8.1 Then I downloaded and installed from the Gigabyte site only two following drivers:
1) The Realtek sound driver as the generic Realtek driver doesn't want to work with Dolby.
2) The Elan touchchpad driver as there is no generic driver from Elan. Though one year ago they offered it...
The rest of drivers are from Windows (for instance, Bluetooth - actually I don't use Bluetooth so that I don't really care if the driver is the latest and the greatest) or from OEMs (for instance, WiFi). -
Elan TouchPad Drivers, Version 11.14.3.1 WHQL:
NecaCom | Catalogue PC drivers, new drivers, drivers for the computer, download free drivers, bios, firmware -
It's not so straightforward. The registers are 100 and 101. But values are ignored unless the fans are off and CPU temperature is greater than 45C (then you can force them to the min speed). Maybe there is a register where you can enable full manual control but I failed to find it...
The only strategy that somehow works is to always force the fans to the min speed. Then at least they won't ramp up so often if you are just browsing/watching videos/etc. But this is far from perfect. -
From the description:
Name: Elan TouchPad Driver for --> Acer <-- laptop.
Doesn't look like a pure OEM driver. But one year ago they offered the generic driver from www.emc.com.tw (the official Elan site). -
BTW. Is there any way to get EC registers info directly from Gigabyte? They know the info but they are not willing to fix the fans problem. But we are willing to fix but don't know the info.
Then it'd be really easy to control the fans or at least to know for sure that there is no way to do this (for instance, BIOS controls them and no manual override is possible). -
Quick question: Gigabyte really cheaped out on the length of the wall plug... Is it ok if I connect it to my old HP's plug? Not the power brick, just the part that goes into an outlet.
-
You can use any cloverleaf lead I'd imagine, as long as it fits and it connects to the outlet it should be feeding it fine. I too noticed the secondary cable length is pretty low.
-
Alright, cool. Thanks
Yeah it sucks when you have outlets that are farther away.
Edit: If anyone upgraded their wireless card, make sure to go to Intel's site and download drivers for it as Gigabyte only supports the default N-7260. -
Where do you get Windows 8.1 media?
Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk -
What do you mean by media? Like the actual update to 8.1 or something like drivers or apps?

It was said above that he did a clean install. Just wondering how

I did notice that whenever I resume from sleep, the WIFI is disabled.
I ended up having to re-enable the WIFI every time.
Does this happen to anyone else? If it did, how do you fix it? -
I have a 2442V and just did a complete wipe of all the partitions followed by installing Win7 Home edition which came with the laptop. Right away I noticed the same thing you did, after hibernate or sleep my wireless was off and I had to go to the SmartManager to turn the WiFi back on.
When I go into device manager (again this is not Win8) I see that under the power management tab for the WiFi card, the "allow the computer to turn this device off to save power" is check marked. I disabled it and tried again, this time I can come out of sleep or hibernate and the wifi stays on. -
Several options: Bootable USB stick; external DVD drive; or if the recovery partition was intact, which it should be, from there.

I have a question regarding the 2 USB 3.0 port. In the manual. One is labeled "support USB charge" and one is not. How much power is on the 5V on the charge one? Is it enough to charge a tablet (1.5A)?
-
it's more like that it supports USB charging while powered off
-
Both should provide 1A and one is enabled when the laptop is off, the one closest to the back. Can't confirm at this time though.
-
Ah. Thanks, will give it a try later then.

+1 on uninstalling Realtek's Audio Driver, it definitely makes a difference.
Edit: Every time I restart, Dolby gives me a notification saying that the audio driver didn't run properly or something like that. It doesn't affect anything, but I have to close it every time. Is there a way to prevent this? -
Ok, I'm experiencing some ghosting on my monitor, and it's scaring me. it's not permanent (as far as i can tell), but it lasts for a few minutes. Example: I leave the browser and a web page open for a few minutes, and when I open Start (dark grey background), I can see a faint image of the webpage, despite the browser being closed..
Anyone else experiencing this? -
Not seen it yet but I'm now looking out for it, if it burns in I'll be very unimpressed...
-
By nature of the technology LCD should not be able to "burn-in" - that term refers to a degradation of the phosphor. LCD can "ghost" (few minutes max, usually only tens of seconds). I'll be curious to see once mine is here (2-3 days).
-
Thanks, edited to ghosting. As you say, I don't think anything permanent is going to happen, but the ghosting definitely lasts for a few minutes (and a reboot) once it really sets in.

Anyone got this hooked up to a hi-res display (2560x1440 or higher)? via HDMI? I'm hoping that this unit have the newer HDMI 1.2 or higher which should be able to drive up to 4K. I'm only getting 1920x1080 in my desktop monitor but it has an older HDMI port. Hope someone have a newer one to try out.
-
Several online sources say HDMI 1.4, so it should work, but don't take my word for it.
-
What exactly is the correct driver for the stock wifi card? The friggin Intel site is a nightmare, keeps giving me different results and the descriptions don't seem to match saying 32bit etc?? Anyone got a proper link?
-
Nevermind, think I figured it. Gigabyte's driver update utility should be called 'Dumb Updater' not 'Smart updater'.
-
I tried this but it seems that the WiFi is still being disabled after sleep or hibernate.
-
I was going to get a P35K but with the further delays of the CF1 model I think I'm going to call it quits and just grab a P34G.
Does anybody know/think replacing the stock 128gb Lite-on SSD with a 256gb Plextor mSATA drive would give me a significantly performance? -
Larger SSDs are inherently faster - it's the nature of the technology. The Plextor got some quite nice reviews too.

Hello Guyz,
I Want to know that the stock Intel 7260 N wifi card is single band or dual band....If so does single or dual band matters so much... also Is it worth to upgrade to AC or 1202 killer wireless....Plz let me know cause I am about to finalise my order with xoticpc.
My other question is about the battery replacement in future...is it possible cause as it is li polymer battery it will lose charge on the run....
Thanks a ton...
-
The stock card is dual band. If you have a dual band router than go for it but it will still be limited by your provider internet speed. Transferring between computers on your network should be pretty fast though. As for AC, it's relatively new technology so the routers are pretty expensive right now but it is faster than N. If you want to future proof your laptop then go ahead and upgrade, but N will be supported for years to come and unless you have specific speed requirements it doesn't matter which one you go with.
I've only read reviews about bigfoot wireless cards but they don't appear to perform much better than the 7260 cards anyway. Apparently they can prioritize network access for games and such but I think you'll only see a boost from really bad networks.
My guess is in the future you can buy battery replacements. You'd have to replace it yourself but that should be fairly simple to do once the cover is off. That's something that you should only really do once your warranty runs out. -
Hello zipykido,
Thanks a lot for your help. I think so I will stick with the default card then as per your suggestion. I also have a question regarding the ram...what should I go with 8gb or 16gb. I main purpose will be gaming and multitasking. As this machine has 1x DIMM of 8gb should I go with other one....
Also any suggestion how is the warranty support of gigabyte as I am buying there laptop for first time from xoticpc. Any help would be seriously appreciated...

Has anyone gotten Linux to boot on this machine yet? None of the distros I've tried will boot.
