I know the p35k got pushed back due to a design change, but where are you seeing the info on the p34 coming out after it? Last I heard was that it was still on track for early September in the US.
-
Seems that it was released in South Korea:
gigabyte p34g
128GB SSD version is 1.730.000 won ~ 1550 USD. Though prices in USA tend to be lower than there... -
Gigabyte replied to me on their "Gigabyte NB" Facebook page advising that they expect the P34G to be available in Australia "late Sept". This is perfect for me as I need to purchase my device in October
-
Not a Facebook guy, would appreciate it if anyone could ask them about availability in the U.S.
-
Talked to a few US vendors again today they have still not heard when they will start getting them.
-
Sad news for the p35k:
Still no official word on the availability in the US or the price although losing thunderbolt might drop the 35k to similar price for of the 34g. -
That's actually good news for me. I have no use fora Thunderbolt port (although I know many people do). I'll take the price drop gladly (if there is one)..
-
E-mail response from Gigabyte direct, they said early to mid-September in the U.S. which translates in italics to October I'm sure.

Having a tough time deciding between this unit and the Clevo W740SU. Clevo has the IPS, Gigabyte unit is the AHVA. Gigabyte unit has a backlit keyboard, Clevo one doesn't. Then this has the GTX 760M and the Clevo unit has the Iris Pro.
Anything else I'm missing? Pretty close trade-off for me. May come down to release date, availability. -
Clevo W740 has AHVA ( Review Schenker S413 (Clevo W740SU) Notebook - NotebookCheck.net Reviews)
Personally, I think that there is no reason to buy overpriced and cheaply looking Clevo W740 when there are much better options such as Clevo W230ST (slightly smaller) /Asus N550JV (slightly bigger). Also don't forget about Gigabyte P34G/Gigabyte P35K though they can be overpriced even more
-
I would have to agree, sadly. If the vendors here don't even have a clue then I doubt that it would any earlier than late September.
Would be happy to be wrong. -
AHVA is basically IPS
They both have very similar: Viewing angles, native panel Gamma R/G/B Curves less than 2.2(+/- 0.1), -
I asked them about the availability of the P34g and the U24F in Austria on their facebook page, this was their response:
-
15" unit I'd probably go with a Asus Zenbook Prime UX51VZ-XH71. 13" unit would be a Sony Vaio Pro, but 12" and 13" units are off the board for me as are 15" units over 5#. 14" FHD IPS or AHVA with 16GB RAM and less than 2 kilograms is the sweet spot for me.
Can't speak to the pricing issue on the Gigabyte units, but right now I think the Clevos will be available about a month earlier based upon being able to price configs on Xotic, Mythlogic, System 76, etc. -
damn, i was pretty sure to buy an Asus N550jv but right now i'm curios to wait to see the price and the perfomance of this one...
-
Yeah it would be nice to get at least an MSRP for the US and anywhere else it is going to be dropping next month.
-
How do you know the Clevo is 'cheaply looking' ? I mean it's not a macbook, but I'm at least going to wait for more reviews, and the only one so far seems to be an early build. 14" is sweet spot for me and the very thin portable form factor of the W740 is a big consideration for many. The P34 is also thin, these other laptops being mentioned like the Asus N550 and the W230ST are just too damn fat.
-
Just look at its photos
-
The iris pro will only be as fast as a 650m, at BEST (~10-15% slower on average according to anandtech, although drivers could close the gap eventually).
The whole point of the P34g is the 760M, which should be 50-100% faster than the 650m due to having double the number of shaders -
Is it possible to replace the mSATA SSD with a PCIe SSD?
-
From what I understand is you get both the msata and a sata port. So I do not see a reason why you shouldn't be able you put a regular ssd in there.
-
Thanks, I'm glad to know that it should be coming out in the UK. I can't really wait to replace my VAIO SA as it's starting to drag its legs when playing more recent games.
-
P34G shows up in Germany for the price of 1399 EUR.
Gigabyte P34G, Core i7-4700HQ, 8GB RAM, 878GB, Windows 8 (GA-P34G) Preisvergleich | Geizhals Deutschland
Edit: Specs have been corrected on German webstores, display can only be 1920x1080 AHVA according to Gigabyte tech support. -
Well, at that price, it knocks me off the running for one
-
errr at that price id rather buy the razer blade. sorry gigabyte
-
Don't get me wrong I am a bit disappointed at that price. However the expandability still keeps me leaning this way. The Razer 14 does not even have a second regular drive bay and if you do use the second msata or upgrade the primary you void the warranty. With the P34G I can get much more space. Not to mention that the base Razer price for the 128GB which is pretty useless on a system like this, is still much higher. Honestly I would have to go with the 500Gb just to be usable and now you are around a grand over the P34G.
If the Razer put a premium screen and a better price on useful storage, it would be a no brainer.
I am still debating between the two, but I am still leaning a little the P34G way. Hopefully we will see some US prices soon. -
Isn't the screen on the Razer a 1366 TN panel that is pretty crap? That's a deal breaker for me.
-
It is indeed TN and crap. I don't know the res.
I feel the same, I'm only waiting for the P34G/P35K because screens *should* be much better. -
I am hoping the 1080P screen is not far behind, if at all, Not a fan of the TN screen.
-
I really wanted to buy this gigabyte, but I can't wait for mid/late september for availability in the US...
They really screwed themselves with availability dates. Ended up going with the 128gb razer + student discount = ~$1600 bucks. I already own a large mSATA SSD that I can pop in the second bay, so I'm not getting gouged by Razer on the additional storage. I had a chance to see the 14" blade in person, and the screen wasn't *great* but no worse than my current laptop. I always hook up to a monitor for work anyway. That being said, a rather ho-hum display was a hard pill to swallow for the price, I hope there are more options on the market soon for you guys :thumbsup: -
Latest e-mail exchange with Gigabyte Support. They've backed off from early, mid-September to late September, early October. [sigh]
-
Which region?
-
United States
-
My patience is running out.
-
Mine too, I'll be super annoyed if it isn't priced competitively against the razor blade 14". No point in waiting another month if they're going to launch a $2k ultrabook.
-
Really is a bummer. I guess the hope is that they are making sure that it is a very good system with no problems.
One can dream, right? -
One can dream
But a company won't try to make something perfect and lose money at the same time. They should release as soon as possible and start making money but Gigabyte didn't release yet and already missed "back to school".
Why? I suspect that they have an issue (issues?) with the laptop. I'm pretty sure that this is something related to cooling. Previous Gigabyte's generation was damn hot because of overheating and now they put inside 760M and made it even thinner and cooling system is same as before. -
Have you guys looked at this?, I don't understand absolutely anything more than the number. I converted it with korean won to eur/usd in google and the most expensive it's like 1250 Eur... don't know if prices would be comparable though.
-
Really disappointing to see it priced that high. I'm not going to buy it if it's above 1300 USD.
What about the "999$ for the basic configuration" thing, then? -
Just to update on the European availability, Gigabyte confirmed it should be available in Late September.
-
@Kolo yeah pretty much my thoughts. Unfortunately.
-
Thanks for the info! +rep
I hope it will come with a fhd screen though. -
Gosh, I've been watching this thread religiously for about 2 weeks now and honestly, its not the waiting that gets me, its the lack of information. You see clear demand on this end, you ought to give us communication or we lose interest!
Anyway, this recently uploaded video seems to indicate that a reseller in UK should be stocking the machine come end-September.
Anyone hear anything else? The Gigabyte NB page seems unhelpful
-
I think that is my single biggest complaint. If you want to compete with the likes of Razer then you need to be out in front of this.
Heck, I am the one that had to request the Gigabyte sub-forum here. That is something a good marketing team would have already had completed. -
Gigabyte are very responsive on their "Gigabyte NB" Facebook page. I'd recommend asking your questions there.
-
We're not talking about being responsive, we're talking about communication man. Anyone can start a Facebook page and respond to every question with "we don't really know", which is essentially what they're doing when it comes to price. The only firm responses that are being given relate to specs and regional availability. The worst is probably time frames; we've seen answers ranging from August to October since July. If you can't keep to your word, don't make a Facebook page!

Be nice to at the very least have pre-orders going on. We would have the answer to the price question and see some commitment. Right now they are losing me.
-
Gigabyte tech support answered to me that P34G indeed only comes with 1920x1080 AHVA screen. I see that Alternate and Mix have already corrected their specs.
Interested to see what the noise levels will be in reviews. After all CPU alone has a TDP of 47 watts. Then again even Vaio Pro gets noisy under load and it has the speed of a snail. If Gigabyte can keep the desibels under control in idle, web and video playback use, that would be nice.
