The Crucial one will be fine for the normal SATA slot. Yes, you will need to get an mSATA SSD in order to replace the stock 128GB mSATA drive.

Edit: solved it, somehow I used FN+Ins which activated Numlock -.- -
Hi guys,
I upgraded to windows 8.1 by mistake and my laptop has turned into a mess.
I have fuzzy fonts and text in most apps, and the workaround (right click - compatibility - disable display scaling) does not work on some apps.
Cant stand the new "This PC" settings too - forcing the display of the desktop, documents, downlaods etc folders (only way to remove it is to edit the registry).
Anyways, i would like to go back to windows 8.
I tried a factory reset by pressing F8 as I bootup but there is no option for it anymore. There is only an 8.1 option.
Am i doing the reset right? or is my only option downloading win 8 from the official site?
If i do that, how do i know which version I originally had?
Thanks -

Also, want to purchase a power adapter. Reading through the thread it seems people have tested
1) Innergie mCube Slim 95
2) Kensington Portable 120W AC/DC Universal Power Supply
Anyone know if the Cooler Master SNA90 or N90 works? or any others? -
Hi all,
I have had this laptop now for around 4 months, and I have had a consistent problem that has occurred when playing games, both when the laptop is using the Nvidia GPU and the Intel HD Graphics. I have searched throughout this thread but I could not seem to find an answer.
The issue is that the laptop will randomly stutter/freeze for a couple of seconds at a time, and often the sound will glitch at the same time. I hope there is a solution to this issue, as when playing competitive games such as CS:GO it can be a huge hinderance, however in games like Hearthstone it is obviously not too much of an issue.
Thanks for the help. -
Are you running CS:GO from the 1TB HDD or from the mSATA SSD? In my past experience, issues like this have been due to data being read from a slow drive, which the 5400RPM 1TB HDD is.

Hi all again... still in love with my P34g gen 1.
Does anyone know what the new bios F006 brings? I can't seem to google anything... -
Didn't know there was a new BIOS. Smartupdate doesn't seem to be ever uptodate
-
No clue what's in 306/F207, wish there was some kind of changelog.. -
Anyone have problems with the screen freezing after plugging the charger in? It resolves when you unplug or change brightness or put it to sleep and wake it. I have latest bios.
-
I'm having some issues with wifi connection now. It will connect for a minute or less and then drop, although it still says I'm fully connected. I've tried rolling back drivers for the wifi adapter but no avail, is my wifi card busted?
-
What driver version are you using? -
Hello everyone,
a dumbquestion:
I have strange gray spots/areas that appear gradually on the screen of my P34g (v1) since one year.
I will like to disassemble the screen to check if it is simply not dust.
So 2 questions:
1) Is there a kind of protection on the screen that explain the dust between screen and protection?
2) if that is the case : do you have an idea of how to disassemble the screen? I do not see any way to begin with.
I removed the back of the laptop but I do not see any access. Clues ?
Thaaaaanks -
If you do decide to try this yourself most modern LCDs are held together via adhesive which will require heating with something like a heat gun in order to loosen. -
Thanks for the advice. Unfortunately Gigabyte told me that theses spots are under my responsibility so I must pay for repair it....

I have the same problem -
When the screen goes black and the sound loops that is almost always a display driver error followed by a recovery. Try uninstalling both intel and nvidia graphics drivers and clean install.

So I bought this laptop in January 2014- just about a year and a half ago. I have to say, it's a great machine, and hadn't had any problems until 3 weeks ago. Touch pad is responsive, light, powerful enough for some gaming and massive spreadsheets, and nice form factor all make it a great choice.
The rub: 3 weeks ago I woke up one morning and found that it wouldn't turn on. When I hit the power button, the power (light bulb) LED just flashes on and off slowly until it dies. Plug it in, the charge light goes on, hit power, same problem and then the charge light starts blinking too. I filed an RMA and will update with my experience with the company's warranty. -

Bad main board, by the sound of it. That will be great, you following up with some feedback on the warranty experience.

With Windows 10 coming out, I contacted Gigabyte support regarding compatibility of Smart Manager (for fan tweaks) and Smart Update. Response posted below.
Those utilities have not been updated to be full compatible with Windows 10. I was informed that should be done but the end of August or early September 2015. Thank you.
Best regards,

Brief update on my RMA so far: RMA was approved by the next business day and shipping was easy enough. Unfortunately, you have to pay for the shipping for the RMA, but since I'm in the U.S. and it's just shipping to the city of industry in CA it was only ~35 bucks, so not too bad.
The laptop arrived at gigabyte in one piece on Monday, by Tuesday they had determined it's the motherboard. Just got off the phone with them and learned they're special ordering a new motherboard, so they're not sure what the timeline will be for that part to come in. They're gonna check on that and send me an email update. It's very easy to get in touch with them via phone, never been more than a 1 or 2 minute hold and the person who answers actually seems quite upfront and helpful in determining what's going on- so far I'm pretty satisfied that they've gotten to work quickly on fixing it. I'll update again with the timeline on getting the new motherboard once I hear. -
In the beginning of this year, I tried to update the BIOS expecting that it could improve the gaming experience. All games I play the laptop has a kind of random one shuttle/freeze, which freezes the sounds and image.
When I flashed, the laptop would not turn on anymore.
Talked to them and they said it was my fault and I had to pay 700 euros in order to repair it. And it took two months to arrive the motherboard to UK (they said it would take one week). Now that they fixed, they sent me back and it is not recharging the battery anymore... and gaming still ****.
It was the most wasted money in my life. And I really pissed off with this crap. -
Has anyone tried win 10 yet? is it stable on p34g even without proper driver support?
-
All drivers are official manufacturer drivers from intel, nvidia etc.. (Mobo, GPU, WiFi etc..) and actually seems to run a bit better than Windows 8.1 (although that may be some sort of placebo!!) -
So the motherboard will take at least 2 weeks to come in. Was easy to get in touch again- bummer about the timeline though..
As far as repair costs- I've been told this is covered by warranty. It's a little ironic that the hard drive is the problem/it will take so long given that's GB's specialty, isn't it? Haha. Anyway I expected it would be a while..overall no complaints thus far. -

I'll probably update mine to Windows 10 this weekend.
I don't expect any problems, as we're still recent enough with Intel to have good driver support for the most likely stuff to break. -

Not sure what happened, second try it worked fine.
Going through the SmartUpdate updates now.
Curiously it's telling me to update BIOS/EC to 306/F207, even though I'm already on it. Hm.Last edited: Aug 10, 2015 -
Definitely some other wonkiness since the upgrade.
Geforce Experience is mostly non-functional, even after a full reinstall - with a big dip in gaming performance too, even with the Win 10 driver right from Nvidia.
Battery level seems stuck on 91% and charging (edit: when plugged in and charged, obviously), unlike the expected behavior which is charge to 100% then dip to 95 and charge back (afaik).Last edited: Aug 10, 2015 -

The battery charge notification could be faulty reporting, either per the OS or the hardware itself. Does it discharge (AC removed for a little while) from 91% and then recharge back to 91% consistently? -
91% or 94%
always says it has 8mins till full charge
it discharges normally though
Having some Intel video issues too. mkv playback is green and distorted (seem to be regardless of the codecs involved, tested xvid and avc), other containers work fine though -
Wow, Nvidia stuff seems more screwed up than I first though.
After uninstalled Geforce Experience the Nvidia control panel icon showed up in my tray (not consistently) but any attempt to open it results in a system hang requiring a reboot.
May just end up uninstalling all Nvidia software and reinstalling it all. Something must've gotten screwed up along the way.
Optimus definitely isn't working either. -
Tried a few different orders of uninstalling/reinstalling Nvidia's driver package - end result is always the 760m disabled in Device Manager.

After my initial Windows 10 install pains (weird crash during install then non-working nVidia card) everything seems nice and stable.
Optimus is working well with no issues since the initial Windows 10 driver update from nVidia. You may want to completely remove all the Intel drivers (the chipset ones I mean) and install the Windows 10 revisions. That's what fixed my issues with the 760M and what enabled Optimus to work again.
I do have the one outstanding issue with the battery being stuck somewhere between 91%-94% full. -
Did you get the chipset drivers from Windows Update or from GB Smart Update? Or from Intel's own utility?
Also how did you remove them?
I've got all the other Intel stuff in Add/Remove Programs (Graphics, IME, RST, etc.) - but not the chipset drivers specifically.
-
Specifically, I went to the Gigabyte Windows 10 update page. Was disappointed to not see the P34G as a choice but did notice that the P34W was on the list. Since the chipset drivers for the P34W also have drivers for the P34G I wound up downloading and installing those. Everything worked after that.
A few days later smart update was updated with newer drivers and I've been doing updates from there since.
This is what mine looks like:
-
That's disappointing to hear. I got my Intel chipset (and ime/rst - but those are irrelevant) drivers from Smart Update shortly after my Windows 10 upgrade and they all appear working normally.
My Geforce 760m was nonfunctional before and after that process.
This upgrade has bricked my p34g from a gaming perspective, with no signs of an incoming fix. -
This is a silly question but have you blocked the nVidia driver from being installed by Windows 10 automatic update? I did that on mine and then installed the one from GeForce Experience. Maybe that was what did the trick along with the chipset drivers?
-
Doubt that's possible without disabling WU entirely.
Regardless it's irrelevant, a clean install of 355.60 from Nvidia doesn't fix things. -
Tried with DDU removals of Intel and Nvidia drivers and then fresh installs of the latest packages from the vendors themselves, Smart Update and Windows Update - same result every time: Intel works ok, Nvidia is disabled in device manager.

Update on my RMA: Laptop has been repaired (total time to repair 3 weeks) and is being shipped now. Should arrive on Tuesday. No cost to me to replace the motherboard, though they did have to change the panel surrounding the keyboard/touchpad to black as they didn't have the silver on hand and it would have added another 2-3 weeks to order the silver in. Will update with whether the laptop is actually fixed when it arrives. Overall the repair process has been smooth, though pretty delayed.
