Thanks for the reply. I will have to consider that before making a purchase. I really love the slim profile of this laptop..

Hello everyone,
I'm very close to buy a P35x V3 but I still have a last big doubt, probably you have already talked about it a lot so I apologise in advance:
wich screen should I go for? 3K or FHD?
I have found only 3K reviews saying it's not a good panel (poor black, low contrast), moreover it seems that the nvidia GTX 980M can't manage high resolution gaming (ultra high setting with anti alias on!!) so you are forced to switch back to FHD in order to get a proper frame rate.
Since I have no information about the FHD display, could you help me? Do you have tech specs and/or benchmarks of the FHD screen? Impressions? Advices?
Thank you very much!!!!! -
my harddrive cage has a stripped screw so i can't get the screw out to replace my HDD. Anyone know if gigabyte will sell those cages?

I was seriuously considering the FHD but, on the other side, there are some points that still make me think:
- they say that this particular 3K monitor can downscale do FHD with great results
- near future Windows (windows 10 i.e.) will become more "high definitions friendly", so I could think about the future!!
- More games will be better in 3K than in FHD and I would not regret this choice.
On the other side:
- native resolution is always better
- this 3K monitor doesn't seems to be a top quality in term of specs
So I was thinking that it's better taking a great FHD monitor than a mediocre 3K, the thing is that I don't have any info about the FHD monitor.
Do anyone here know at least wich is the producer or the model?
Thank you very much again!!! -
I went for the 3k. No regrets.

Any other impression from a FHD owner? -
Sorry for the short post earlier.
3k screen is the best screen ive ever looked at (havent seen 4k ips panels). Colors and brightness are great. Blacks are meh, though better than my last laptop (hp workstation 17" 5kg unit from 2007 or so, 1200p)
Honestly, scaling is fine. Ive set scaling to 125%. At that setting, icons are not blurred and large enough for me to see even when the laptop is pretty far away. I have good eyes and really appreciate the extra sharpness and real estate the screen gives. I often run two chrome pages side by side or even 4 windows (1 in each corner) depending on page layout etc.
AC:U came bundled with my laptop. At ultra no AA it runs at 30ish fps on native. I run it on 1080p ultra instead and it looks just as sharp if not sharper than 1200p games on my native 1200p 17". All of my other games I run on native ultra no aa (the screen is so sharp i prefer no aa over aa on and i dont notice jaggies much). My gaming library is quite substansive and includes very demanding titles such as crysis (1, warhead and 2), far cry 3, borderlands 2, hitman: absolution, metro 2033 (non redux, what is redux actually?), planetside 2, Sleeping Dogs, Thief, Tomb Raider and War Thunder.
Most of them run at ultra no aa native 60fps, and the most taxing scenes and games never go below 40 as far as ive seen, besides the occasional rare dip to the mid 30's
Bottom line is: dont turn on AA on native and youll be fine.
One issue i have with the screen is tearing at sub-60 framerates. Then again, i never run v-sync. The monitor does seem to have a bit of ghosting too. Other 3k owners notice this too? It not really bothering me much but its definitely not as responsive as a 144hz TN, but thats to be expected.
Gpu never goes above 85C when gaming or benching, which is very nice. I cant change volts because Nvidia, but I currently run +135 core and +300 mem stable for two weeks now. I plan to OC it further in the future and really search for its limits when exams are done and the weather is crappy again.
CPU is a bit of a mixed bag: Ive undervolted it by -40mV and its stable for two weeks now. Cpu only benchmarks and prime 95, the cpu doesnt throttle and never goes above 85C. During gaming however, the CPU isnt even used 100% and reaches 90-95 C constantly, resulting in thermal throttling. Of course, the GPU heat is a main factor in the temp rise, since the heat pipes are shared between the two chips. Yet, I've never seen it running below 2GHz when gaming and I never see it bottlenecking the GPU (its always on 100% usage, which means just that). Only game it bottlenecks the gpu is planetside 2 on huge fights, which results in gpu usage of 80-90% and an fps in the 40s instead of in the 60s.
So, in terms of gaminf, the cpu throttling is not an issue, and when running cpu only tasks it runs at 3.4ghz on 4 cores at 85C.
I plan to do a repaste and undervolt the snot out of it in the future.
Noise wise, the laptop is literally silent when browsing the web. Fans turn up ocasionally when watching video, depending on whether its on a desk or on my bed sheets (guess when it turns on the fans).
During gaming the fans run at max. It's loud, but not unbearingly so. My external speaker set easily overmatches it to the point I only hear the game sound, while my roommates are not complaining about the killing noises coming from my room. I plan to get a set of ATH-M40X headphones so I can listen to music in my university's library anyway, so thats that problem solved too.
I imagine this must me a mini review by now, but I wanted to shed some light on a few different aspects of the laptop.
Please let me know what you think of this and what you decide on getting.
I should be studying now, so peace out.

Can anyone upload an older version of Smartmanager? I've updated through SmartUpdate and ths "Blue Light KIller" thing is driving me crazy, even at 0% the colors still look like crap...
Edit: NVM after a little bit of trying i found that you can use this link:
http://driverupdate.gigabytenb.com/SM/SmartManagerV3_Ver_4.X.Y.exe
Just enter the desired version number instead of the X and Y. Download speed is dreadfully slow though...Last edited: Apr 15, 2015 -
You have just convinced me to go for 3k!!
If I can I would like to ask you another thing: what happens with gaming at native 3K with ultra settings when you try to put some AA in? Do we see a frame rate collapse?
On the other side, have you tried to play at 1080 with AA? Is the GPU able to handle that? Have you seen any substancial difference beetween this setup and 3K with no AA?
Thank you very much again!! -

How does the GIGABYTE P35Xv3-CF8 (WGHD 3k) or GIGABYTE P35Xv3-CF9 (FHD 1920x1080) compare to the MSI GS60 Ghost Pro 4K-079, ASUS UX501JW-DS71T or ASUS G501JW-DS71 (I think it's just the gamer edition with red highlights and lesser batter life), and Razer Blade 14 inch 2015. Right now, those are the only laptops that I'm actually interested in and look really nice (budget aside, since I just want to know which one is the "best" one overall). The problem with the Gigabyte is because I heard a lot about the noise and heat issue, with noise being a bigger issue. Is the noise really loud that when used in a room people around you will hear the loud whirring or is it not that high. The other laptops don't really have this problem I think, and the only up side I know that the P35X has that the others don't will be the Optical Drive.
P.S. Sorry if this post is too long, it's my first post here.

Hi guys,
Sorry for reposting my questions, but the issue is irritating:
- Sometimes there is no sound on the speakers after boot or after wake up. I have to mute and lower the volume to get it work again.
- Wi-Fi is not enabled when boot.
Is there any fix or is it a known problem? The laptop is not faulty, it looks the volume thing is a Windows issue, and the Wi-Fi thing looks some misconfiguration.
Thanks! -
A question for all European P35x V3 owners (if there's any):
have you experienced the warranty service? how was it?
I've read that everytime you have to send the laptop directly to gygabyte and that they are extremely slow, can you confirm this?
Thank you all! -
After installing the latest windows updates, my pc is acting very weird: I cant open control panel, my sound doesn't work, i cant shut down because 'task host window' is preventing me, and lots of other things. How could this have happened? I do remember the crappy intel wireless chip failing on me yet again in the middle of installing the 500mb windows updates though.
This is really frustrating dince i have not made a backup yet, which would mean i have to start from scratch yet again if i cant fix this.
Anyone else has this or knows how to fix it? -
I use Windows 7 x64, 230% text size and the vast majority of programs look fine! no
thing blurry at all!

What I happen is I could not put the machine in standby, because wanting to do got a BSOD. The problem is that the wifi board is faulty and not disabled correctly. And it seems that windows must disable wifi to enter standby. And can not do ... BSOD comes.
TODAY I found a SOLUTION (not ideal) for this problem:
1) create an icon on the desktop of your current "Wireless Network Connection"
2) Disconnect the wifi, so you can see the icon wifi disconnect ()
3) before putting the machine into standby off wifi, right click on the desktop icon and choose "disable"
now, you can see this beautiful icon:
4) put on standby your laptop!!
To enable wifi, right clic on the wireless network conection icon and select "enable".
This is the best way I found to disable/enable wifi smoothly. Other modes not succeeded, and the wifi left just as "limited connection"
I wonder if others had this problem and if resolved better. Or if this solution has been useful. -
They rely on third parties to provide maintenance to their products, including laptops.
There's just a few of those service centers, so depending on where you are an international shipment will be necessary.
Their so called "service centers" are a mess! The employees have no certification or even specific training for Giga-byte/Aorus products.
They fix everything from toasters to air conditioners and also (guess what?): laptops!
The queues are big but what's worst is that they (service centers) don't even answer to emails.
Everything is "handled" by phone calls.
I suggest you prepare to record all your calls to them.
If you decide to complain to Giga-byte directly (poor customer service) you may attach the audio files with false promises and mistreatments. -
At least I know i'm the only one.
I don't have the BSOD problem, my laptop goes to standby OK. Do you have the latest driver version? Maybe try to reinstall the wifi card? -
It gets hot (I recommend repasting, it does wonders). It gets loud ONLY if you are gaming, and i'd say it's only a tad bit louder than other gaming laptops.
-
Hope I won't need any assistance!!
Can I ask if you have any contact of this so called "service centers" ? Do they have an internet site? a name? something?
Thanks again! -

Is there any burn-in period with IC Diamond? i re-pasted my machine and it seems the temps are about the same.
-
I recommend scraping away excess paste from the edges of the cpu and gpu by running a stiff folded piece of paper along each of the 4 edges. Some of the edge will no longer be covered by paste, but the heat sink and natural operation will make it spread again. -
When you repasted what did you use and what was your temps after?
idle my cpu sits about 56C and under load it will hit 90c -
EDIT: At 50-54 CPU, 50-51 iGPU area right now.Last edited: Apr 17, 2015 -
After re-paste i was able to push over 9k for fire strike
http://www.3dmark.com/fs/4607748 -
-
Sorry i should of added that. That is with a 135+ core clock and 300+ memory. Previously i was only getting around a 8600~ score due to what i assume is thermal throttling because after the re paste it jumped quite a bit to that score.
-
Hi, does anyone know how good the battery life is?
Can you get at least 5 hours of web surfing on 30 percent brightness with battery saving mode and using the HD5500? -
-
-
I don't overclock the CPU because it has cooling problems already with the stock settings but i use MSI after burner for my GPU

Which one do you think is best among these: Gigabyte P35X V3, Razer Blade 2015, or Asus UX501JW? I just want to know your opinions because these are the best laptops in the market that I know of right now.
-
The razer blade, That machine almost doesnt have any compromise, but has been priced accordingly.
-
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 970M (3GB VRAM)
- NVIDIA® GeForce® GTX 980M (8GB VRAM)
By the way: Asus UX501JW
- NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M (2GB VRAM)....

After waiting months to save up the money, I finally purchased myself a GIGABYTE P35Xv3-CF9 from xoticpc with the ICDiamond re-paste, 16gb of ram, and Bigfoot Killer Internet upgrade . I am very excited and I just hope in the next couple months nothing absolutely amazing comes out and makes me hate my purchase
, wish me luck!!
-
I think it is not easy "hate" this laptop.
I suffer the Intel 7260 wifi ... which is crap. I already bought a Bigfoot Killer, is on track.
But this laptop is so good that I think is not possible to hate or regret having bought it !!! -
Data Transfer: what one might expect, I have not noticed anything special about it. -
So other than the performance view point, where the P35X V3 stand out, how does it compare in other things like birghtness, color reproduction, noise, heat, quality of materials, etc. (I know that P35X V3 is still the best though in terms of storage because of that glorious swappable hard drive/optical drive and it's the only one among the three that actually has a build it optical drive, if you swap it that is)
-
I have a question, something strange is going on here:
On every USA shop they state that the P35X v3-CF4 mounts an Intel i7 4710hq with a clock speed of 2.5 GHZ.
On UK shops they say that the same version mounts Intel i7 4720hq with the same clock speed (2.5 GHz). I asked them if the laptop really has the 4720 because the clock speed should be 2.6 GHz. They said that it was an error and they would have updated the tech sheet with the right clock speed (2.6 GHz).
What do you think? Should I think that American CF4 is different from the European one? -
there shouldn't be any differences as long as you're absolutely sure its the cf4. I personally bought the CF4 model from amazon and it had the 4720HQ.
edit; it was this one,
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00TFWN8IU/ -
I'm sure it's the CF4 but the one I saw has 3k display instead of FHD and 16 GB RAM instead of 8. So I think there must be some difference.
Are you sure the one you bought is the CF4? -
I'm looking at this again and hidevolution has the cf4 but it is listed as the 4710hq
http://www.hidevolution.com/new-lap...-5ghz-8g-980m-16g-ram-256g-ssd-1tb-hd-3k.html
So now i'm not sure what one i bought as the one i have is a 4720hq processor.
edit; i don't think the cf4 changes from region i think i was just mistaken on the model i bought. the amazon page doesn't list the CF version of my laptop. -
From what I've been able to find the CF4 should mount 4710hq with a 3k display. Damn they made a lot of configurations of the same model!!!
Last edited: Apr 23, 2015 -
i hear ya. at any rate if you get one with a 4710hq vs 4720hq the difference will be minor to unnoticeable.
-
That's for sure! They are almost the same CPU, only 100MHz clock speed difference. I don't think it will change things much.
