Seems like it can maintain higher clocks than the 4720HQ at the same temps (95C).

I didn't record temps but I score 8737 on firestrike.

That's with 3.0GHz clock and -40mV UV. GPU is at +135 Core (1261 MHz) and +500 Mem (3000MHz)

Most games I play I clock the CPU at either 3.0 GHz or 2.6GHz, depending on wether it hits 95C or not.

Then again I'm still using the stock paste job and haven't cleaned out the fans since I got it.

I'll apply some GC Extreme and clean out the dust when my finals are over.

If I can maintain 3.4GHz when gaming I would be very happy.

Nice scores but the CPU temps are too high again, high temps I can deal with but the crazy loud fans are a big turnoff, unless Gigabyte fixed it but with those temps it looks like they didn't.
    Bummer.

Yes temperatures looks the same like V3 since the chassis and fan size are still the same.

Considering the p35x V4 with GTX980m. How is the noise level when internet browsing and word processing? Can this PC handle BF4 at max settings 1080p? Is the stock 1080p matte screen pretty nice? Is there a better 15 inch option with a GTX980 at the moment? Is it an ämazing jump"going from a 970m to 980m? What kind of fps jump are we talking when going from a 970m to 980m? Is the GTX980m equivalent to a desktop GTX960m?

1)From what I've heard it's pretty quiet web browsing.
    2)Yes
    3)pretty good
    4) you might want to look at SAGER/CLEVO models.
5)approximately20%/ 30% performance gain depending on the game.
    6) do the math ;)
    7) equivalent to a 970 desktop GPU.

I was thinking about getting a V4, is the warranty void if you install your own msata and SSD?

We have detail noise level tests:

It can handle BF4 at 1080P but probably will suffer the frame rate drop at max settings. the stock screen is LG IPS which is pretty good and the GTX980M performs better than desktop GTX960.

980M performs better than 970M that's for sure, about 30% faster.

No it does not void the warranty at all unless there are physical damages.

I am pretty deadset on getting a GIGABYTE P35Xv4-BW1 from xoticPC. I was wondering if anyone knew if they had any coupon codes or deals at all? I was also wondering if anyone knew when they would be shipping them?

I was curious, I was going to use this as a desktop replacement, and hook up my two 1080p monitors to it, if I do so, will it do it via nvidia, or will one be the intel, and another be nvidia? I was going to use the minidisplay port + HDMI. I was also wondering, do they make decent docking stations for laptops like this, I don't mind plugging in manually, but a dock would be cool.

Should I get the deadpixel guarantee too? Or do they generally not come with deadpixels anymore?

Good luck on coupon codes, I didn't have any luck when I was searching half a year ago.

    Both through iGPU. 60Hz limited.

Docking stations = none that I've found. I've got mine docked vertically. You can see my old setup here: http://imgur.com/a/W5CsE

Didn't have any dead pixels. Haven't had dead pixels in forever, but maybe some others can chime in on this issue.

Hope you can join the club.

Awesome, thanks for that. Are you using a cooler as well? How does that run? What mini iDP dongle are you using?
How's the performance in gaming, did you OC at all?
What kind of FPS are you getting in like, BF4? What settings enabled?

Using cooler, it's between the laptop and the wall. Runs pretty well I think. Heat naturally rises up, so having the exhaust pointed upwards only seemed natural to me.

    No OC, only UV.

I'll check later for you. It's probably the same FPS as everyone else. At max 1-5 frames more.

Thanks, I am curious, because I am looking to replace my i5 970GTX system with this one, and was hoping it'd get real world similar FPS @ 1080p.

Anyone have some current benchmarks and FPS numbers? I'd love to hear em! Would this also support 2 or 3 144hz monitors via a mini dp splitter?

My first post here, but I had a few questions and would appreciate the help.

I have a Gigabyte P35X v3 CF4 that I purchased from newegg (the 3K/8GB GTX 980m model) last year and I feel like I could eek out a bit more performance from it.

How would I go about under volting the cpu and gpu so that they run cooler and perform better?

How would I go about running Raid 0 on two sets of drives? Is that possible? I purchased a pair of 240GB mSATA Intel 530's and a pair of Crucial M200 500GB SSD's. I wanted to run my OS and software on the 480GB drive and store games/music/movies on the 1TB drive.

I'm currently running Windows 7 but will be installing Windows 8.1 (and upgrading to Windows 10 when it releases), will that produce any issues in regards to Raid 0? Right now my laptop came preset for Raid 0, but I find myself lacking space, hence the drives I purchased recently.

Any guides on performing a re-paste on the cpu and gpu? My laptop has been running exceptionally hot recently, especially now considering its the summer where I live.

Thanks a bunch, I'm looking forward to your responses!

You undervolt the CPU with Intel XTU, download it online. Lower the Dynamic CPU Voltage Offset by small increments until you figure out what's stable, use the STRESS TEST Section to test. You can also lower the Intel GPU's voltages but there's probably not much point in that.

I just got a V4 and immediately repasted, I'd highly recommend it, the paste job on mine was laughably bad. Use Liquid Ultra if you're daring or GC-Extreme. To actually get the thing apart, take all the screws except the RAM slot ones out, the bottom should come off with a little wiggling afterwards. Take the 2 screws that hold one of the fans down off. Unfasten all the screws holding the Heatsink down off (They'll still stay in the heatsink), then move around the fan you unfastened to help you get the heatsink off.

If I have time I could post pictures if you're interested.

I appreciate your post. I have my laptop running at a -60mV undervolt, did a successful repaste with IC Diamond as the factory paste job was as you said.

I also replaced the HDD and Disc Drive with 500GB Crucial M200's and the Lite On 120GB mSATA SSD's with 240GB Intel 530's run in Raid 0. With a fresh install of 8.1 Pro this bad boy feels brand spanking new and seems to be running much cooler (at least 7c - 10c lower on avg) while I'm testing stability with Prime 95. Hopefully I can get down to -80mV or -100mV for an even bigger temp drop!

This laptop just came in from Amazon and I swapped the dvd drive for an SSD I had sitting around. I'm now trying to reformat/install windows onto the SSD instead of the defaulted HDD. Can anyone kindly please give me steps on how I can do this? My package didn't come with any Windows 8.1 installation CDs and when I try to recover the laptop via F9 it just reformats itself back to the 1TB HDD without any option for installing it onto the SDD.

Hi, I have a P34w V3 but I'm pretty sure the software/method will be the same.

You have a recovery tool on the original boot drive that creates a bootable USB stick from the (hidden) recovery partition (you'll need a 16gb stick), when you boot from that you should have the option to select which drive to install the recovery to. You may have reset the partition table of your chosen drive to "GPT" instead of "MBR" which can be done via Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Computer Management>Storage>Disk Management. I did that when I put a new SSD in my laptop and the recovery stick found it and went ahead and reinstalled Windows.

Also, does the bios see the hard drive?

Hi, I'm considering to buy the new P35X v4, would like to ask for your opinion regarding the FHD 1080p display. From what I know, it uses LP156WF4-SPB1 AH-IPS panel.
Haven't found any useful information of this configuration in particular, but from reviews of other laptops using the same panel - seems that it delivers brightness 300+ cd/m2 and decent contrast of 800+.
My question is about the response time - 35ms is quite slow, do you experience any ghosting in high FPS? And also it has only 6-bit (262k) colors - is it noticeable in comparison to full 8-bit?
Are you happy with display quality in general, is it good enough for gaming and business?

    Thanks!
    P.S. please don't suggest 3K display, it's not an option :)

I don't have such configuration myself, but wouldn't expect any problems. For reference, both XoticPC and GenTechPC offer 1TB SSD installation in all 4 slots (mSata, primary HDD and swappable ODD) - for both v3 and v4 versions.

There is zero ghosting on the panel the p35x v3 ships with. Honestly its the best laptop screen I've ever had. Its better than my samsung 4k monitor i plug it into when working in my office.

edit: i looked at my monitor to confirm and mine is not the LG one you linked. i have this one apparently.

Anyone else experiencing an issue where the wifi doesn't reconnect when the laptop starts again after sleeping? I was just wondering if there was a known fix, I have downloaded all of the latest drivers.

One other thought, I had my v3 replaced recently after dropping my original one, the build quality has definitely improved, I nearly have a flat keyboard :)

    Thanks

I had an issue where I'd have to use the fn+f2 hotkey after waking to get reconnected to the wireless. I fixed that issue by installing the smbus driver packaged with the latest Intel chipset drivers.

Wanted to ask you about noise level in idle or office tasks:
From NotebookReview: "The fans reached approximately 32 dB(A) in routine tasks (office, Internet, etc.), which is also quite pleasant... We have to criticize the occasional speed increase; the noise level sometimes increased to 36 dB(A) for no reason."
And from Anandtech: "...with a SPL of around 40 dB(A) measured at the same one inch from the trackpad, but even light tasks or random Windows scheduled tasks can cause the fan speeds to ramp up to quite loud levels; 45 dB(A) or more can occur just moving through Explorer, or surfing the web."

~30dB is inconvenient but acceptable, while 40-45dB sounds disturbing... How bad is it really in your experience?
    Thanks!

Since there was no P35X V2 I will assume you mean the P35W V2 with the 870m. I don't see any hardware differences between them other than the GPU. I'm not sure if the screens are the same or the hot swappability of the optical drive bay on the P35W V2.

I would think CPU tasks would run the same on both.

I know you said besides the GPU, but for anyone else interested it looks like the 870m is roughly half as fast as the 980m and from the reviews I read it looks like you could realistically expect 50-100% more FPS from the P35X V3 depending on the game and settings. It looks like if you ran at the highest settings forcing it to be GPU limited you could get up to twice the FPS in game. In lower settings it would only be about 50% more FPS because the CPU starts limiting it more.

Check my question several days ago and couple of related answers.
From semi-official sources, the panel is expected to be either LP156WF4-SPB1 or AUO B156HAN01.2 - both have very good reviews, some people like them even more than the new 3K WQHD+ ones.

Sorry, yes the P35Wv2 is what I meant.

I'm in need of a portable laptop with decent battery life. For a **** ton of coding, emulation, rendering, and Adobe stuff.
I was going to get the Xv3 until I saw this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834233059
Figured I'd be getting a new lappy after skylake and volta comes out so no need to go all out.

So then, if I'm fine with a crappier gpu, there's nothing else to consider yes?

Wow that does look like a good deal with that price cut! I'm no expert but from what I read I would think it would be a good choice.

One thing to keep in mind is this is a thin chassis with powerful components so you will have more heat than a thicker or less powerful laptop. I normally run mine with turbo boost disabled because it lowers my temps a ton, and makes zero difference in the games that I play anyway. You may need that extra CPU power with what you're doing.

Oh yea, I've been hesitant to buy these thin but powerful lappies for this exact reason (and battery life).
I don't imagine I'll ever be rendering on battery power haha.

Buta, how bad is the heat doing less stressful things like 10+ tabs on chrome?

    Anyways thanks for the info~

I'm usually in stealth fan mode when not gaming, so the fans are the quietest they will ever be at the cost of the temps being a little higher. Right now while I'm watching a video and browser running my CPU is in the lower 50C's across the CPU in stealth.

On the max fan setting in the same scenario its running mid 30C's.

There are two in between modes for a more middle of the road. I have found that I usually do one or the other though when I'm at home. I will say that I have had good luck with the auto high fan setting to for when I don't feel like switching it back and forth. I have even gamed on stealth, knowing that it gimps the performance but again it keeps the laptop as quiet as possible, say in a public place where I don't want to disturb others, or when I just wanted to go as long as possible on battery.

    That's not bad. Neat.
Have you repasted, or is it factory?

I agree they are good temps but realize that is just browsing/video/office tasks, nothing demanding at all.

I repasted with IC Diamond when I first got it. It made a nice difference with my CPU but nothing measurable with the GPU from the limited testing I did before and after. That said it improved my overall experience because keeping the CPU cooler helps give more headroom for the GPU as well since thee are linked directly together via heatpipes.
