For anyone who has replaced the internal hdd with an ssd equivalent, did this add a buldge to the corner of your laptop? I remember somebody mentioning this.

Have someone found a solution about the sound crakling/poping randomly? Latencymom tell me that the cpu is power limited but I didn't undervolt or underclock. I think this isn't the problem.

Can you elaborate on your problem? I've never experience any crackling or popping on the built in speakers nor headphone through audio jack.

Does anyone know if you can use the laptops screen as well as an external display connected to the Display Port, and run them as two screens, not mirrored, so that the desktop real estate is expanded and the mouse will move over from one screen to the other? Cheers

So my nvidia graphics card no longer shows up under the device manager and the driver wont install for it so i think it crapped out. How has anyone dealt with gigabyte RMA and know what the typical turn around on a claim is?

So im getting around 60 fps in Witcher 3 , on high settings, uber draw distance, hbao+, full HD, so im very happy with that...

    BUT

According to XTU it throttles like crazy, down to 1,4 GHz at one point, typically staying at around 1,8 GHz. For some reason the CPU wont go above 90 Degrees in this game...I even downgraded the BIOS to FB09, to check if gigabyte "improved" the thermals in FB0A, but nope, still the same. Its strange as SoM did go to around 92-93. Will do a test with an undervolt today.

I play it with most settings on ultra and get a consistent 50fps with no throttling at all. I have a gaming profile setup for it on XTU which with a -60 undervolt and limiting the multiplier to 25x and my temps are around 80-85c.. Haven't had a problem with any game so far.

Yes there is a bulge now with a crucial m550 512gb installed but my laptop came without a hdd and havent checked whether the bulge is there without it installed.

Next time I open it up I'll check if the bulge is present without ssd and whether it is fixable.

What is new with it? Does it have to do with G-sync?

Appearantly, you dont need a g-sync module in a laptop screen, just a 'nvidia approved' screen, which can be older existing screens as well.

EDIT: Also, how do you safely update it?

Aorus X7 was confirmed not to be able to get Gsync, i doubt the p35x will.

I just update mine via smart update, works like a charm.

AFAIK mobile g-sync will only work on notebooks where the GPU is connected directly to the screen (laptops without optimus). So its not possible to get g-sync on the P35X, at least not until nvidia strikes some kind of deal with intel.

Didn't see anything new in the bios, but maybe I missed something.

I installed without a problem. Had to change my windows theme back to default because the flasher won't launch otherwise.

I had my card turn off as well. Reboot with graphic accelleration off then reboot with it on. It was scary because I couldn't even open nvidia control panel. It gave some weird error. Try and report back?

Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts about the upgrade to Windows 10. Only reason for asking is that I am concerned about losing the backup image stored on the hidden drive. In the past when I have upgraded an operating system it has deleted the drive and the image with it. Does anyone have any thoughts please, obviously time will tell when it is released next month, but just wondering in the meantime.

I guess I could take a copy of the hidden drive using Acronis and store it somewhere, and if it is removed go back in and recreate the drive using something like partition magic, but it could turn out to be a pain when I eventually want to sell the laptop.

    Thanks

Why not use usb smart backup? I'm pretty sure that makes a copy of it. If not windows usb bootable backup can make a copy of it.

When i transitioned to a bigger msata ssd, I'm pretty sure I screwed up the recovery partition. It's there, sitting at the end of the drive with the data in it, but I don't think it's working.

How can you tell if it's working? When I go to windows recovery and try to install a fresh copy, it asks me for a disk, I assume the recovery partition is this "disk", but I can't find it through the menu.

Try restarting the laptop and pressing F9 when it boots up, this will take you to the repair options and will tell you if you still have the partition installed and available. Be careful not to go all the way or you may lose everything. I have found that it doesn't work if you go through the Windows repair options directly and only works with F9.
I don't have my laptop at the moment as I dropped it a week or so ago and it is with the insurers under repair or I would send you a copy of the partition layout in the 'Disk Management' tool, this would let you compare yours against mine that works. (One additional thing, I ended up in a similar situation a couple of years ago with another laptop, I had previously taken a screenshot of the partition layout and using partition magic (or similar) managed to rebuild the partitions exactly as they were and it started working again.
    Best of luck.

Your right, if you limit the CPU to 2,5 GHz it doesn't throttle, but if you dont limit it, it throttles down to around 1,8. So , nice throttling logic Intel...

Im running Windows 10 preview now. I've had a few weird issues.. When the laptop sleeps for about > 2 hours, after waking i have to enable wifi manually using fn+f2.. also sound stops working after sleep.. the only way to get it working is to press fn+f7 then fn+f8 or fn+f9. Aside from that windows 10 works pretty well on my p35x v3.

I don't even see the point in letting your computer sleep. The ssd takes 5-7 seconds to load windows. The same amount of time you spend fixing those errors.

Well, the point of sleep is probably hibernate. Sure it takes 5-7s to restart but it takes a lot longer to open up all my apps and documents again.

Hi All, does anyone know if the P35 x/w will output at 120hz 1080p from the displayport? I've realized that my laptop (P35w v3) is faster than my desktop so looking to connect it to my gaming monitor which only has DVI or HDMI, my understanding is that to get 120hz I need a powered displayport to Dual link DVI, so any comment or advice on this would be much appreciated but before spending £60+ on the adapter I thought I'd check the laptop can actually output at 120hz :) Thanks

Nope. Unfortunately mDP is connected to the iGPU, so it's limited to 60Hz. It does support triple monitors via mDP though :D

I have recently contacted a company, regarding their 16GB SO-DIMM DDR3 modules on the P35X-v3.
Intel's maximum memory specification for the i7-4720HQ (HM87 Express chipset) is 32GB and in theory could add 2 x 16GB modules.
Due to a limitation in the Intel MRC (Memory Reference Code), which is a part of the code in BIOS, Intel 4xxx CPUs are not ready to accept the new modules.
However, it is very likely to restore compatibility with a BIOS update from Gigabyte.
Some manufacturers (i.e. Asus) have tested with their systems and already provide compatibility with the 16GB DDR3 modules.

I understand that for the majority of circumstances having 32GB RAM is excessive at the moment, however I wanted to ask whether someone has either reached out to Gigabyte for more information or tested these modules on the P35X-v3?

Does anyone know well the P35X v4 performs with the new broadwell 5700HQ? I am currently on the fence about purchasing this because Skylake is around the corner but I really need a machine for school starting September. I read another post saying that the 5700HQ runs hotter than the current 4720HQ, not sure if this is true though. It would be great if someone could clear this up for me. Thanks!

It only has a newer CPU that's it. Last few Intel cpu iterations only improved something like 10%. No big deal at all. The newer cpu may run cooler though but still. Gaming performance improvements will be marginal.

It is manufactured by a company called Intelligent Memory. 16GB DDR3 modules.
At the moment those modules are mostly compatible with Intel 5xxx series CPUs and require a BIOS modification to work on 4xxx series.
Asus has already provided compatible systems and I was wondering whether someone has either tested these modules on the P35Xv3 or contacted Gigabyte regarding (future) compatibility.

According to Intel the TDP for the i7-5700HQ will be the same as the V3 i7-4720. Obviously, TDP is not the typical use case even when gaming, but because there is no drop in TDP I do not expect much thermal reduction in SDP. One thing to note, the i7-5700 increases Tj by an extra 5 degrees. So the higher temp from this laptop will have less impact to the life of the processor. Although I am more concerned about the other components.

Yeah one thing that concerned mean out this laptop were the high CPU temps when gaming , hopefully the Broadwell version somehow runs cooler and not as loud.
It would be a miracle but not expecting too much of an improvement since both are like you said 47W CPU's.
    Quick question
Are the fans still excessively loud with the current model when gaming?
