I'll be googling to figure out what all that means, but I'm also wondering how that compares to the 1st gen 1060 aero (like the one I have) where the newest bios is FB03

    Great read here: https://haypo.github.io/intel-cpus.html

Basically, the larger the number C'x', the less power the CPU is using. If I am not wrong, the Kaby Lake processors supports up to C10, where the previous gen (Skylake) supports up to C7s or something.

The testing I then did was to see if the shifting of the PROCHOT value down to 90c from 97c would affect the performance from the CPU. I'll run a couple more benchmarks when I can to gauge it.

Just FYI, the Tjunction for both 7700HQ and 6700HQ processors are 100c, so shifting the throttling limit down seems a little unfair to users who would like to fully utilise the processor.

Out of curiosity, @bruor, what is your PROCHOT value?

I'm not sure how to check, but I have seen "prochot 97" in throttlestop as an option that is checked.

However, I just figured out how to check my throttle reasons in TS and I was getting thermal throttle kicking in at 90c I think (max temp logged was 92)

Your PROCHOT 97 means your CPU will start throttling at 97. A tick in the box means that the CPU had previously hit that limit and throttled. If you have throttling kicking in at 90c I think there is something else being limiting the CPU. Can you click on 'Limit Reasons'? If it opens, a yellow box means that the Limit Reason has been hit before, and red box means it is currently being limited by that reason. Somehow, some of the boxes are already yellow when on boot up, so I would recommend clearing it (Click the headers) and then leaving it in the background to see what is hit.

I cleared them, played some over watch, got those Temps from the log and checked the limit reasons, it said thermal in yellow.

I assume it's cpu temp throttling because the GPU shows in game and only hits 65.

Hey guys, is anyone getting this error?

The description for Event ID 14 from source nvlddmkm cannot be found. Either the component that raises this event is not installed on your local computer or the installation is corrupted. You can install or repair the component on the local computer.

Since two weeks ago, I've been randomly getting this error and the computer just freezes for no reason.... Perhaps it is since the WIN 10 Creator's. It would happen when the computer is left to idle. Or it would happen when I plug in my adapter

Update, I disabled bd prochot and played some more while leaving hwinfo open and one of my cores hit 95c while playing but the others only hit 87 or so.

TS didn't show any throttling though which was good.

    @leader288

Isn't your benchmark higher from the new bios? Your system is still pushing hard as it can when it needs to unless you are seeing problems in battery life or BSOD, freezes, slow downs and stuff like that. I really would not waste my time looking at minor stuff and feel worried but that is just me.

Overwatch at 1080 on high quality.

The GPU gets up to around 75, I believe I said 65 earlier.

I'd suggest reinstalling the audio drivers, even if it has to be through Smart Update. This happened to me a while back, but that was just me trying to get Dolby Atmos to work, so I was trying out unsupported drivers, and ended messing things up. Even the default vanilla realtek drivers didn't work. The outdated driver in Smart Update helped, then it updated itself down the line.

I ended up reinstalling, and that didn't work. In the end I had to completely "shut down" and when it booted up the on board speakers were working again.

Anybody else having wifi problems since the Windows Creator (ver. 1703) update?

I got random disconnects of the Wifi, sometimes the wifi card stops working at all (get a code 10 in the device manager) and I need several reboots to get it back up. Driver 19.50 made it a bit better (19.40 was the worst) but it still happens now and then. Most often after resuming from sleep/hibernate.

I tried all the tricks posted over the net, all recent driver versions...I even reinstalled Windows from scratch - makes little difference. Only thing I noticed is that it happened even more frequently after I reinstallled the SmartManager.

I do not think it is a hardware issue as the Bluetooth (same card, right?) works without any hickups and booting into a linux live disk the wifi also works without any issues. Also it started to appear after the 1703 update and I never had any issues with the previous version. Unfortunatly neither the Gigabyte recovery partition nor the Media Creation Toolkit allows me to reinstall the old Windows version to test it.

This really drives me crazy. :(

Finally! Found an Windows 10 1607 ISO and after installing that one the wifi seems to work fine. It shows full 3 bars signal strength icon (while on 1703 sitting at the same place 5GHz only had 1 out of 3 bars, 2.4GHyz at least two) , has not dropped the connection once or reset the wifi card.

So I'm probably going to receive this laptop next week.
From these reports, should I hold back on some of the updates?
    - Should I update the "BIOS" (probably UEFI?) to the newest version?
    - Should I update drivers?
    - Should I update Windows?

Also, how hard is it to remove most of the bloatware? Will it suffice to just remove the unwanted apps, or should I go for a complete re-install?

I wouldn't say it's any much different. It doesn't throttle anymore during games in the older BIOS (97 PROCHOT) which means I do not get fps dips, so I think I am staying with the older BIOS.

Updating the BIOS is entirely up to you, you can roll back to the previous versions, I have all 3 of them. Do let us know what version does yours ship with!

Yes, definitely. Use Windows Update first, then Smart Update, then Intel Driver Update Utility (DL from intel.com), Nvidia Drivers (from nvidia.com)

There isn't much bloatware, can be uninstalled via add remove programs: Cyberlink DVD, Xsplit Programs, Tridef Cam. I kept the GIgabyte stuff: Smart Manager, Smart Update, MacroHub, Smart USB Backup.

I have had some occasional occurances where the wifi card would suddenly disappear, but then I was switching over from a VPN, so I chalked that up to the VPN's fault. I have not had any problems otherwise, I am on 19.50.1.5 driver.

With a -118mV undervolt, the cores are pretty much hovering at a 0.96V - 1.04V voltage range @ ~3.4 Ghz , which I think is pretty good.
I am yet to see temps above 89C , with the undervolt.

Trying to get data on this . Please report your average stock voltage of your cores.

@iunlock has done a crazy job with his Aero 15. The resulting temps are out of the world.
I heard Grizzly Conductonaut destroys Al . So , I wanna confirm whether the heat sink base plate in our Aero 14 isn't Al , before spending money on the LM paste.
Please throw some light on this . Thanks

It is happening again... :( Sometimes after sleep/hibernate the icon shows full connectivity but loads no websites. Then suddenness it shows no active networks anymore. Just now it did't even listed the wifi card in the device manager. (while bluetooth still kept working)

Same issue as reported here (even though on a different card)-> https://communities.intel.com/thread/110512

Perhaps it is a hardware defect. Will try to contact Gigabyte Support and get the card (and keyboard replaced)

    -118mV Core/Cache & -65mV iGPU - http://imgur.com/a/Nn11k

With the undervolt, fans were less than 25% throughout and the max avg temperatures of the cores is 71C with a room temperature of 27C. Very impressed . Good job GB.. :)

I posted a link to a Taiwanese review a couple of pages back that has high res photos of the heatsink and internals. From those photos it looks like the plate for the 2 cores are copper. http://quasarzone.co.kr/bbs/board.php?bo_table=qc_qsz&wr_id=41421

Guys ! Gigabyte has recalled Aero 15 within a week due to battery defect . I am little worried as the same battery is been used in Aero 14 too.
Would this be an issue specific to Aero 15 ?
    Aero 15 recall Reddit

EDIT : Came to know that this is not true . Apparently some re-seller misunderstood Gigabyte's advice on battery .

Recalling a new laptop is a huge financial loss for them. It seems unlikely that they use the same battery in the Aero 14, unless they literally *just* found out about the battery faults. I'd reckon that battery faults would have appeared in individual reviews already for the 14, given that it was released about 1 year ago.

What is the evidence that the battery in the 14 is the same as the 15?

From what I've found out both the Aero 14 & 15 use the same model of battery, though I suspect that this an isolated incident that relates to a bad batch of batteries that have been fitted to the very first or one of the first batch models of the Aero 15.

It definitely is not the exact same battery (although the same model and capacity), they'd otherwise have recalled all the Aero 14s a year ago.
I'm suspect the battery in the Aero 15 has failed one of the crucial quality control tests, probably resulting in a severe defect in the long run. They don't want to deal with "explosive" Aero 15s later, so they're recalling it now.

Edit: It came with the newest FB07 / F004 BIOS versions.

Thanks for your help. Just got the laptop about 1h ago. My thoughts so far:
    What I like:
    - The bezels are not as big as they look on pictures. Definitely not as big as it seemed to me, after lusting after the Aero 15... :)
    - Love the screen so far. Very sharp.
    - Build quality is good. The screen hinge is a bit wobbly for my taste, but it's still tolerable.
    - Many reviewers disliked the speakers, however I think they are fine. Compared to my MBP, the highs are more balanced, and the mids are stronger.
    - Keyboard is good.
    - Performance overall is very good.

    What I dislike:
    - The trackpad is bad. Is there any way to change the drivers (some 3rd party drivers) maybe? Part of it is getting used to it, but I think that things like left/right clicking just don't work the way I'd like them to.

I have been using the Kabylake Aero 14 well over a week . Here are my thoughts .

    BUILD QUALITY:
    - Well made hinges , minimal screen wobble
    - High quality plastic
    - Minimal keyboard flex
    - No chassis flex at all.
    - Edges are well cut out
    - Port outlines can be better . Uneven finish around left USB 3.0

    DISPLAY:
    - Excellent viewing angles
    - Sufficient brightness under the sun
    - No visible bleeding under a full black screen
    - High response time , hence affecting fast paced games.
    - Deep blacks , decent contrast ratio and average whites.
    - Needs some color calibration , can't be used for professional creative work out of the box.

    THERMAL MANAGEMENT:
    - Ran a couple of benchmarks and CPU , GPU stress tests and found that the laptop reaches a maximum of 91C (28C room temps) and there are no signs of thermal throttling with the stock setup.
    - With a bit of an undervolt , even Prime95 was unable to push it beyond 86C.
    - The temperature difference gradient across cores is very less . A max of 4C difference among cores during stress tests. Core 2 tends to be the hottest all the time . !?
    - With a repaste and undervolt , this little fellow is going to be a performer.

    BATTERY LIFE:
    - With a clean install of Windows 10 , Gigabyte's MacroHuB and the FB07 Bios , a battery life of 6-7 hours for day to day productive tasks is easily achievable.
    - I undervolted , kept the brightness to ~20% , limited the maximum processor state to 60% and was able to achieve a whopping real life 10.5 hours watching HD videos , a movie and reading online .

    TRACKPAD:
    - It is ELAN , it is terrible . Nothing more to add.

    KEYBOARD:
    - The keyboard is surprisingly good with a better key travel than most of the other slim laptops .
    - Feels a little cramped and it takes time to get used to , if you are used to a full size mechanical keyboard.
    - The two stage back lighting is spread evenly across all the keys .
    - The Macro keys are quite useful .

    SPEAKERS:
    - Tinny , down facing , lacks bass but no distortion even at max volumes . Acceptable for a laptop of this size.

    PERFORMANCE:
    - The i7 7700HQ can handle 1080p video editing like a breeze , 4K can be a little frustrating. 1060s CUDAs help in making the renders quite fast.
    - Most of the modern AAA titles can be played at very high - ultra at 1080p
    - Older games like Far cry 3 can be played at QHD @ Very high 60 fps.
    - I have a US version , it lacks the dual channel memory and the faster nvme SSD. So the SSD read and write speeds are below average. Nothing notable in the real world unless you do heavy lifting stuff.

    AREAS OF IMPROVEMENT:
    - I think the 1080p screen would have been a better choice.
    - Speakers can be a little loud.
    - Trackpad is terrible , needs definite improvement. ELAN gestures sucks

    CONCLUSION:
For the price , this laptop is the best overall performer. No thermal issues so far , Good screen , great battery life and awesome mid range performance.

Just pointing out, if you are on the F007 bios, you will not see temperatures above 91c as the CPU will throttle below 3.4GHz (-116mV undervolt) - the PROCHOT value for that bios is 90c. I have documented the behavior of the laptop a few pages back I believe.

On my end, I am seeing about 9c difference between cores when maxed out, I am not sure if that is supposed to be happening?

WRT the ELAN Trackpad, I have customised the options in the registry such that it works like this:

3 finger swipe up: Task View
3 finger swipe down: Show Desktop
4 finger swipe left/right: Pg Up/Dn, using Autohotkey to map to Switch virtual desktops

I can share the .reg files here, if anyone would like it.
