With regards to the differences in the individual core temps - is the laptop running on stock thermal paste? If so it could be the result of an average paste job.

It may be worth doing a full repaste with something like Thermal Grizzly Kyronaut, not only will your temps be slightly lower but the differences between each core should then it be up to 5c max.

    Liam.

Yeah , I saw your post on the difference in PROCHOT between the old and the new BIOS. I saw a spike of 91C on only one core , that too for a second during my Prime95 undervolt stability test . The room temperature was around 28C by that time. Yes , with the bios update the PROCHOT is now 90 which is more sensible . I wonder why the old bios has been set to 97C which is really close to the tjmax.
I am curious on what pushed the CPU to 95C with a -116mV? What were you running at that time ? So that I could run the same and test it out
Also , Please share the regs .

Agree about the 1080p screen being a better choice.

I was on Prime95 v28.1 small FFTs stress test, 8 threads. Fans @ 100%. Also, I changed my PL1 to 58w as I noticed that it was TDP throttling - clocks were not holding at 3.4GHz. If I am not wrong, that was what I noticed in your prime95 tests.

WRT to the Elan trackpad, here is the file: http://www.datafilehost.com/d/334e9a57

PLEASE PLEASE read the Readme.txt, and backup the respective registry branches before using them!

If you encounter any problem and did not backup, just reinstall the drivers and all will be well.

P.S. do you want the AHK script as well?

@leader288 , Hey , thanks for the SmartManager link and the Registry files .

I ran Prime95 for 10 mins, small FFTs stress test, 8 threads , fans automatically controlled based on the temperature . With a -120mv core/cache and -100mV on graphics the max temp on one of the core was 82C , the cpu was able to hold onto 3.4Ghz all along except at one occasion where it dipped to 3.1Ghz , I guess this happened due to the delayed response of the fan to kick in at full speed. No PL or TDP throttling . Haven't you tried undervolting it ?

No , I haven't repasted it yet. As I am in India , I have to import the liquid metal TIMs and also waiting for iunlock's Aero15 results and planning to keep it as a guide to do it on mine.

Is it possible to configure function keys to behave as what is printed below the "f" numbers normally, and as f-keys when the fn-button is held?
Haven't found anything in the BIOS, mobility center, or otherwise.

Hey guys, how can I connect my Laptop via HDMI without using the GTX1060?
For example when I visit someone and I want to stream something with my Laptop on the TV but I didn't bring my adapter with me. The batteries will be drained very quickly because the Laptop Switches to the GTX1060 if I just plug the HDMI in its connector.

    Regards!

I am getting a constant 8-11 hrs of battery with light usage like HD video streaming , 4-5 chrome tabs open and some music running in the background in AIMP. This is close to the Gigabyte's claim of an all-day battery life.

Well...thank you...I am getting the same results...without the Laptop being connected via HDMI. But this does not answer my question at all.
This is because the Aero 14 will use the CPU gfx chip usually for every day Tasks and mostly for 3D applications the GTX1060. But if I connect my Monitor or TV via HDMI the Output will run directly through the GTX1060 it seems, which uses considerably more power than the Intel Chip.
So let me repeat my question,
I want to connect my Aero 14 via HDMI to a TV or Monitor but I want the Laptop to leave the 1060 inactive and use the Intel Chip instead. I just want the Laptop to consume less power running on battery while being connected via HDMI. Do I Need a Adapter to use any of the other ports? I dont know if the HDMI port will only work with the GTX1060 being active but I might have read something like that somehwere.

Haha , I wasn't trying to reply to your query in the first place . See , I didn't quote you . I was just reporting my battery life based on my daily usage .

Whenever you connect an external display via HDMI , the discrete GPU is turned on to power it . I checked out the BIOS and there is no way of changing it to Optimus/Hybrid .Disabling "3D Graphics Acceleration" completely shuts down dGPU . I guess there is no hardware multiplexer to facilitate both the GPUs to access HDMI.

To my knowledge , software multiplexing can enable us use the desired GPU to power up the external display by off-loading the work from the GPU which has access to the display port to the GPU which we desire to power the display. How it's done in Windows 10 is beyond my knowledge . Perhaps , some experts can throw light on this.

Ahaha sorry, what a coincidence because I was talking in a way about battery life and then your post followed mine...sorry again.
Hmm the picture you uploaded is interesting. I never noticed in the Nvidia CP the display port and HDMI port are pictured in the GTX1060 portion, but the, I guess, USB-C port is pictured with the Intel GFX portion. Maybe someone with a USB-C -> HDMI hub could test if it runs through the Intel Chip. This would be great because I can get one of these für 15 Euros with additional USB ports, which would be really practical. I had one but sent it back because it caused a blue screen on my PC but someone mentioned they fixed it.

Thanks to anyone taking his/her time to respond and answer questions ;)

Edit: Also just regarding your post, my old Dell XPS 15 9530 had a dGPU, GTX 750m, but the dedicated chip does not power on while connected via HDMI. This is how I got used to connecting my Laptop via HDMI and not bothering about battery in the first place. I just think it depends how the ports are connected on the motherboard going to either GPU...

Yeah some laptops allow access to both GPUs , some a muxless ,granting access to either of the GPUs.
Since Aero 14 is a primarily a gaming laptop under a professional looking cloak , it's makes sense why the main display ports are routed via the dGPU. Imagine gaming externally with HD630 , Lul.

Please report us back if the type C to HDMI works with the iGPU . You can confirm it by using the "Nvidia Optimus GPU State Viewer"

I ran the test with the "Customise" under fan tweak and selected "Auto Maximum" under that. the maximum being kept at 80% of the full fan speed.

    Posting this from Ubuntu!

I now got bumblebee ("optimus for linux") up and running, and battery life seems indeed good or even excellent (more than 7 hours with light usage). Some more testing TBD. powertop reports a battery drain of 11 - 16 W. Anyone want to compare with their system?
Also, the touchpad drivers are actually much better under Ubuntu, go figure. Any way to port these drivers over to Windows? :p

Now trying to find out how to get fn lock on this OS...

I had shortlisted Aero 14 v7 and the Alienware 13 R3 . It was a tough call between the two , below are the reasons why I chose Aero over 13 R3.
    - Bulky , Weird LED stripes and trackpad illumination.
    - Not a fan of the whole "gamer" aesthetics , it looks a bit overdone.
    - Pulse Width Modulation at low brightness levels in R3. This makes me dizzy and tired as most of the reading and surfing is done at low to mid brightness .
    - Above all , I really put an end to the thought of buying R3 after reading about it's bad thermal management due to toothpaste stamp thermal paste job. This really sucks. What's the point of having a 1700 USD laptop that throttles after 10 minutes of gaming ?

Aero 14 offered everything a travelling gamer and a office goer needs. Clean , professional aesthetics , good keyboard , great battery life , good linux compatibility , good cooling and thermal management and more. It has saved me from the trouble of opening up , voiding warranty and doing the risky liquid metal pasting!

Yes ! The touchpad works much better under linux . Also , I disabled dGPU completely from BIOS , this results in 7-8 hours of battery life with arch and i3wm.
11W under mild loads is awesome. This translates to roughly 8 hours of battery life. Are you using primus + bumblebee + bbswitch?

How can you disable the dGPU? Maybe this is the solution to my HDMI issue ;-)

Edit: Found it and tested it...disabling the dGPU disables the HDMI connector too. Well this confirms my guess that the HDMI port is hard-wired to the dGPU. It seems I need to buy a USB-C HDMI hub.

Yes, for reasons that are very similar to iambalaji. I didn't like the AW's bulky appearance. Also, didn't want to go smaller in screen size than the 14" I got now.

That's the exact setup I'm using. I am running some neural networks stuff, so I need the dGPU from time to time. To get everything working, I found this link to be an invaluable source, if you wanna have a go at it. I tried to go with newer drivers (nvidia-378 and nvidia-381), but I ran into some problems for both of these, and am now using 375 (which is also the latest "stable release").

External displays work here (over hdmi). I just have to make sure that the dGPU is active, as indicated in some other posts it is not possible to use external monitors with the iGPU.

I'm using nvidia drivers 375.66, and kernel 4.10.0-041000-generic.

BTW, battery life is great for a mobile workstation. Very happy with it so far. Still have not found a way to reverse fn key behavior, though.

Guys, I found that the GTX 1060's core clock keeps hovering at 1222 Mhz during a 10 minute 1080p preset Furmark . Temperature maxed at 80C. The minimum that it dipped to was 1110 and the max 1404 .
Is this better than the Razer Blade and the Alienware R3 .
Has anyone tried overclocking with the afterburner ?
    Is it being power throttled?

EDIT : My bad I noted it down incorrectly. In-game and during loads it hovers around 1712 Mhz and peaks ~1810 Mhz .

I'm using Arch Linux, with drivers 381.22 and kernel 4.10.13-1-ARCH. dGPU is enabled in the BIOS. When I plug in the monitor, no event fires in dmesg. Not sure why this is.

Another issue. I've updated to creator's update on my Windows partition and gotten the latest Nvidia and Intel graphics drivers, yet I can't change the display brightness at all under Windows. I can't do it clicking on the battery icon in the taskbar, and I can't do it in Action Center (grayed out), and adjusting brightness in SmartManagerV3 or using the keys doesn't affect the brightness.

xbacklight doesn't work under Linux, but I have been able to set the display backlight by changing the values in /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight or using the acpilight package in the AUR.

    Anyone else have these issues?

It's the intel graphics driver. A recent update broke this. Try going back to an older version. I don't have my Aero in front of me or I could tell you the last version that works.

I reverted to 21.20.16.4627 as recommended by @iambalaji and it does nothing to fix the problem. Same issue persists.

This is with Creator's Update (1703), I don't believe Anniversary Update had these problems and I would not like to revert (Active Hours setting up to 18 hours is important for me).

    Hi there,

I can adjust screen brightness via Fn-F3/F4 on Creator Update.
My Windows version is 1703 (build version 15063.296)
    Nvidia driver 22.21.13.8205
    Intel gpu driver 21.20.16.4664

Edit: Mine is Kaby Lake version.

    Thanks,

I was playing Far cry 3 (yeah , it's old but gold) the other day and the MSI Afterburner shows that the 1060 hits the power limit quite often at ultra settings . Is my card borked?

Is it normal for it to hit power limit ? Is there something I could *SAFELY* do, to eliminate PL throttling ?

    some stats :
    - boosts upto 1845 mhz
    - averages ~1600 mhz
    - Max VDDC 1.05v

I don't have FC3, but are there any freeware tools I could run so we could compare? Would be happy to run them, as I'm also interested in how temps, etc., would hold up.

How did you roll back bios from FB07 back to FB02?

    Thanks

I just tried to connect an external monitor through a usb-c-to-hdmi adapter, and it doesn't work, no matter if the dGPU is enabled or disabled. Just FYI.

Missing or incompatible driver? Even when the adapter is supposed to be plug-and-play, you might need to install a driver for full functionality.
If the Aero 14 has an HDMI 2.0 port, try it as well.
