Will gsync work on an external monitor connected via dp then? This will be driving factor on whether I'll get gsync monitor or not. Anyone tried this?

How loud and hot should this be while gaming? I feel like mine is pretty loud.

Manually turn your fan speed up to 100 to gauge noise. Mine gets reasonably loud.

For heat I only feel it coming out the vent by the screen, keyboard gets warm but nothing uncomfortable. I actually use an orbweaver now for games because my keys got worn smooth and look like ****.

Do you know response time for Aero 14 and Aero 15? Measurements on notebookcheck can be wrong as everything else.
What about battery life (web surfing)? On internet it varies from 5 to 9 hours.

I get a solid 9 to 10 hours of standard office work on mine when I make sure the GPU isn't being engaged by Microsoft photos.

Just calibrated the screen of the Aero 14 using a Spyder 4 Pro. It was artificial ambient light only. Screen set to 75% brightness.

I found that the default profile has relatively good accuracy, but the default temperature of ~7700K is way too cold for my taste.

I have attached two calibrated profiles, one at the native temperature of 7700K and the other at 6500K. I know that every screen is slightly different, but maybe the 6500K profile is better for you than the default profile.

Can you measure display response time with Spyder 4 Pro? I would be very thankful. In case you did that with other laptops I would like to see results to compare.

Sorry, that's not something that the Spyder 4 can measure. It's only for color calibration AFAIK.

Does anyone know if the Aero 15 keyboard issues also exist in the Aero 14?

Nope. At least, not on the 1060 variants. I don't know about the 1050Ti variant, but since it basically has the same hardware, I wouldn't expect any issues with that either.

And now it is dead... today the SSD died without a warning. I did shutdown the computer yesterday night at 1am (actually "shutdown"), tried today at 3pm to boot and nothing. Battery was totally drained. After connecting the PSU, the notebook booted to the Gigabyte Splash screen and then... nothing... stuck. Neither could I enter the BIOS nor booting into Windows.

Opened the back, swapped the SSD with another one I had laying around and... it booted again. Great, so the PC somehow woke up from shutdown and drained the battery over night and at the same time frying the SSD.

So far it has been a rather frustrating year.

    1) Keyboard with weird pressure points on some keys, sometime double registration of keystrokes, sometimes no registration at all (see my last post about this)
    2) WLAN card broke three times within one year. After the second swap by Gigabyte I put in a 8265 from Amazon.com which works since then.
    3) Now this.

I had enough of this. Will send it into for repair (again) and then sell it.

I got a question. Since I am dual booting linux, is there any chance that any of these updates, particularly the BIOS update, will break my partition table in any way? I have everything installed on the internal SSD.
    https://imgur.com/a/3lv70

Would any of these updates bring me significant benefits? I don't feel like fixing something if it isn't broken. And re-partitioning a broken linux system is very painful.

Would the FW update give me any benefits? I guess the question I want to get at, what is the changelog for these FW updates?

I am dual booting Arch and Windows 10 1709 . So far so good. The updated drivers haven't caused any trouble nor screwed with the bootloader code. I am on FB09 and I noticed that Throttlestop showing a 90C PROCHOT.

On a different note , I am venturing into a project to triple boot Sierra , Arch and Windows 10 .. Let's see how it goes .. If someone has successfully done Sierra on Aero14 or 15 , please let me know

Thanks! From a quick googling, seems that PROCHOT controls CPU thermal limit from the BIOS. Is PROCHOT higher or lower in previous firmware? I'm fine with temperature and performance of the laptop as it is on FB07.

Good luck with Sierra... I'd be surprised if you get drivers for the GPU! But I know very little about hackintoshes TBH :)

    Earlier, I think by FB04 , it was 97C , but by FB07 they reduced to 90C. Sorry , I thought you are in FB04 .
For the hackintosh , I plan to completely disable the 1060 through BIOS and run with only the i7 and HD630. As many are successful with a similar build , I think it's atleast worth a try..

Hey all, I'm a new member and new owner of an Aero 14, which I LOVE, but i'm having issues with.. I could REALLY use help with these two things because it's barely still within my return period:

    1. I'm having the issue where sound cuts out for no reason (always after hibernate, sometimes randomly upon startup). I have the 1060 7700k model, firmware FB09, High Def Audio driver is: 6.0.1.8199. Its really frustrating because it happens VERY often.

    2. I registered my warranty and got a success notice (no email). Upon trying to reenter my serial it says its registered. Whenever i check my warranty at http://ggcs.gigabyte.com/CheckWarrantyStatus.aspx it says Sorry, the Serial Number you entered is unavailable, Warranty Coverage:01/01/0001~01/01/0001.

Sorry to throw all of my problems at you all! It's just really difficult to find info on this laptop, and the fix for the sound didn't work for me (the new firmware).

    Thanks!

I just recently picked up the Aero 14 and I am having an issue where my mouse freezes for less than a second when opening a program. I notice it when I open SmartManager. I think its related to Optimus but I am not sure. Is this normal? Is there a fix? I am running the latest Win10 version and latest firmware/bios. I did not do a clean install from factory, just removed some bloatware.

Win 10 had it fixed for a bit but it looks like it's back in the latest update. It is Optimus for sure. Smart manager used no run a process that would engage the GPU full time but I'm not sure if they took it out in later versions. I have it disabled here for better battery life.

If you can recreate the issue by sometimes clicking on the battery icon and by shutting the laptop down, then it's definitely Optimus losing its effect (i.e not needed GPU switches). The only way to completely get rid of stutters is by keeping the dGPU always on (Nvidia control panel, adjust 3D settings using preview, keep it open), but this will drain your battery.

@acekong Does this happen when you right click on the home screen as well? I get a slight freeze if I right click anything on my desktop pretty much.

Did anybody have to fix their sound issue like I mentioned on the last page? I'm unfortunately going to have to send this laptop back today if I cant find a fix because I have to shut down and reboot my computer all the time just to get sound : \

I have the same issue, here it seems like it happens if I close the lid while I have headphones plugged in. IIRC in got stuck in a mode where audio was playing from the had phone jack only and not switching back to system speaker.

When this happens only a full power off and on seems to fix it. I have the skylake version and was hoping a bios update would fix it but they stopped releasing bios for us when newer 14s launched.

To my knowledge there isn't a fix for my model either.. I have the latest firmware (which people reported supposedly fixed this issue) but nothing. Its incredibly frustrating, and honestly broke the deal. I'm returning and getting a gs43vr instead.

edit: I don't know if it's a hardware issue specific to our machines, but I bought mine used through amazon so perhaps I recieved an early unit in production that was defective? I have to return mine because once I'm out of the return period i'm done. To my knowledge my warranty isn't available as I bought it new.

I was looking into this and found this thread over at intel, looks like they've reproduced the micro stutters and are working on a fix. The bad part of this is that their newest drivers also disable brightness adjustment etc so we'd need to push Gigabyte to update theirs once a patch comes out.

    https://communities.intel.com/thread/119093?start=60&tstart=0

The registry edit they suggest in the first post actually works for stopping right click freezes BTW... Still hangs on battery status etc though.

Anyone out there have a skylake aero14 and know what changes are in the FB06 beta bios? seems like a pretty big jump since we are on FB03

edit: it looks like prochot is still set to 97c so I think I'll keep it. It seems to have changed something related to the touchpad as windows needed a reboot after the upgrade to "finish setting up" the device.

Over the last couple days I've noticed my wifi cutting out like crazy again. I moved my AP a few weeks back and suspect it might be dropping when it switches between 2.4 and 5ghz bands but that is speculation at this point as I haven't had a chance to test forcing it to stick to one band over another. It's fine in my kitchen but drops constantly in my livingroom so I figure there's some sort of signal issue there.

I got sick of windows updating my graphics and disabling my brightness controls.

I found a guide here for how to disable updates for it via group policy
    https://superuser.com/questions/964475/how-do-i-stop-windows-10-from-updating-my-graphics-driver

And a guide here for how to get group policy to work on windows 10 home
    https://www.itechtics.com/easily-enable-group-policy-editor-gpedit-msc-in-windows-10-home-edition/

Will post back if any of this doesn't work as expected, but I have the policy in place and am crossing my fingers

is anyone else having this problem?
My laptop is becoming unusable piece of junk.
The internet on my laptop is dropping every 5 mins now and I've tried just about everything from rebooting and doing a clean install of windows multiple times or trying legacy drivers.
to give more detail the driver just dissapears when i open up chrome or try to use the internet.
Im assuming its a hardware issue as a $5 dongle does not have this problem.
Does anyone know if i can open up the laptop and replace the NIC or should i send it over to gigabyte HQ?

EDIT: okay i went back a few posts and noticed people were replacing their wifi cards but i still have 1 year of warrenty left so if i open it does that void the warrenty?

EDIT2 : and if i do replace it my self should i upgrade the card for a better one? if so any recommendations?

When I ordered mine they gave me the option of two. I would simply rma and allow them to do it if you are still in warranty and in us. I rma mine in December. They had it less than a week before sending it home. It was packaged exceedingly well. And was clearly handled with care. I was impressed.

What is the newest intel driver that doesn't screw up the brightness setting?

Since windows updated some long working graphics driver, I had to return to the original one shipped with the Aero (21.20.16.4526). However with the recent big win10 update and the introduction of the battery slider, I notice frequent crashes of the PC when on battery!
    Anyone also has this issue?

This happens while the GTX1060 is not active, and the only thing that changed were the win10 + forced intel driver update. It's no BSOD, the entire system would hang up without any reaction to the input. It happens under periods of load, like when starting the Chrome browser when many tabs are open. Still happens when all power settings are set to maximum performance.

    Hi,
I also had these problems... a full reset of my system, hard wipe with new installation via backup tool of Gigabyte helped.
I never updated then Intel graphics drivers. Just with the big Win 10 update, it automatically happened, but it was ok, since my laptop never got BSOD or freezes.

I hope this helps u. BTW, I'm running 22.20.16.4836 Intel drivers.

Thanks for your response. AFAIK the Gigabyte tool is just an image of the OS drive when the laptop left the factory. So basically these BSODs / Crashes are software related.

Which processor is build in your Aero? Can you still adjust the screen brightness? Cause this stopped working after the big windows update and the forced driver update.

With the latest update windows also changed the power management a bit. Like you now just have this slider when you click on the battery. I suspect that these changes screwed up some internal power management of the Aero when on battery.

I have the Intel i7 - 7700HQ processor. I can adjust the brightness as i wish and also the auto brightness is working very welll. However I prefer manuel adjustments.

So after the big Win update, everything is fine. The sliders doesn't harm my system either. But tbh I dont feel any differences when using that slider.

In Windows, what is the best way to disable the nvidia GPU to maximize mobile battery runtime?

The easiest way is to disable the GPU from BIOS , but from Windows disabling it from the device manager will do it . You can extend and automate this with a small commandlet that enables and disables GPU using the macro buttons .
