I want to buy this laptop however a big battery is important to me. I would like anyone with the 4720S model of this laptop to reply to me to confirm that this particular model has the bigger (63 watt) battery if they could.
Thanks in Advance

I want to know also, since I'm ordering the Europe version, but if theres a cheaper alternative for us/can i would rather prefer that

Hey guys the configuration I am buying (8gb ram + Wireless card intel 7260) puts this laptop a bit above my budget such that I can't include a HDD right now. If i order it without the HDD (but it still has the SSD), is it easy to install the HDD afterwards once I get a bit more money? Thanks
-
As an Add-on to my previous question, would
SSD 840 EVO - 500GB 2.5-inch MZ-7TE500BW | Samsung SSD
^ this fit in the laptop?
EDIT:
What if i get neither MSata SSD OR the Hard Drive, and install the SSD above? Would that work? Is the mStata SSD necessary? -
It is super easy to replace the HDD or SSD in the laptop. 1 screw to remove the RAM bay, then 14 more to remove the entire base plate, all phillips head. The base comes of easy with just a little pressure.
ANY 2.5" sata HDD, including the SSD you linked can be put into the HDD slot (actually I am not entirely sure 12mm high drives fit, but most 2.5" drives <1TB will be 9mm and fit anyway)
ANY msata SSD will fit into the mSATA slot (again note that official compatibility lists up to 512gb, so I am not entirely sure that mSATAs with >512gb will work, but cannot imagine any major issues)
Also the laptop will work fine with any combination of populated drives and empty drives (except for both empty). -

I talked to gigabyte on facebook regarding repasting the cpu and gpu myself and the advise me not to do it cuz my warranty would be void. The service centre here in MEL confirmed that.

Anyone use a laptop cooler to reduce temps while gaming? If so, got any suggestions for one that fits well with the p34g v2?
-
Hi guys,
i'm experiencing very weird processor behaviour. Every time I boot up/resume from sleep, the processor locks itself to 1.6Ghz regardless of the power mode (for instance Maximum Performance should run the processor at 3,3 constantly). Let's say I put a on a stress test, the frequency doesn't change a bit even though load is obviously at 100%. However, if I fire up my Intel XTU and fiddle a bit with the multipliers, the problem goes away and the processor clocks up and down as it should. Any advice? -
Hey guys. I am really struggling. I have a W230ST and would really love to switch to an 860M. However I can't decide between the P34G v2 and the W230SS. I love the W230ST. It's a great machine. I know its flaws and can live with them.
On paper the Gigabyte looks better, but I couldn't get my hand on one to try it. The 230SS has a gorgeous screen and a very good keyboard. It's pretty loud and hot when gaming plus it's 200 cheaper than the Gigabyte.
What do you think? Is the Gigabyte the better machine? -

Gigabyte is thinner and lighter with a larger screen, the thinner and lighter part is what likely makes it pricier. Also gets better cooling than the 7338 typically does. The Sager is going to be much easier to work on though and going to be less expensive with still having good build quality. I know I'd personally prefer 14" over 13" but that's getting down to personal preference.

Thanks for the quick reply. What do you mean when you say the sager is easier to work on?

OK, thanks a lot. I guess I will go for the Gigabyte then.

Hey guys I ordered the laptop without storage options and now I'm wondering whether to get an mSata SSD + 2.5' HDD or just get a 2.5' SSD? I heard mSata drives normally run warmer etc.
I can get the Samsung 500GB for $300 tax in. (You guys think it will get cheaper in the upcoming month maybe due to a sale or something?)
On my desktop I have 400GB of storage and I never actually go over that so I don't need 1TB of storage or anything, but in terms of temperatures and etc, what would be my best option? Thank you. -
Hi....I am looking hard at this laptop. I have been searching for a laptop for light gaming (CIV, Europa, Walking Dead, XCom, other RTS titles. I am not a big first person shooter fan). With that said, I don't want my machine to choke if I throw something else at it. Probably more important to me are basic functions like keyboard, track pad, screen and battery life. So finally, my question is, can you guys specifically speak to the keyboard and track pad after having the unit a while? I saw some indications the track pad was "terrible"....which I really don't like to hear. Thanks for any replies.

I'm very seriously considering buying this laptop for college (along with a cooling pad, of course), but the battery life is pretty worrying since on some days I need to get through four lectures along with lunch in between! Any suggestions on an external battery pack which has a tip that'll work for the Gigabyte?
Also, you guys who've owned this machine for a while, how's it held up? Do you think it's reliable enough to last a good 3-4 years? (Not in terms of staying up to date with games, just more like will it last) -
Four lectures + lunch? That's like almost 7 hours? The 61Wh should do the trick, but don't rely on it too much. My SP2 can do up to 3 lectures + lunch, but then I'am down to 15%. That is without ever putting it to sleep. I always look for a plug after lunch. I bought an eight yard charging chord - that always does the trick.
But whenever I ever forget to charge it before going to uni I am kind of desperate. -
-
Why Schenker? Don't all P34G v2 come with a 61Wh battery?
-
The ones in the US and even most in the UK don't I think. The schenker branded one is the only one with it thus far I believe
-
Ah ok. I will get mine tomorrow. I got the retail version without OS. I desperately hope it's got the bigger battery. I'll let you know.
-
Well I got tired of wondering. So I emailed Gigabyte asking them about the 61 hW battery. I wanted to know if I can order the battery separate or have a vendor here in the states special order that configuration for me with the battery already in it. I'll post the response here.
-
Mine arrived today and it's got the 47Wh battery.
Should have gone for the Schenker, but they don't have them in stock. Ah well. Overall quality is very good. Except for the matte screen foil. It's very grainy. Also the HDD tray is a joke. But the rest is very promising.
-
This just in from HIDevolution.com:
Hopefully soon I will know the capacity, and whether the 2.5" drive bay is still available.
Edit: Update
-
Hey guys,
This is a silly question however but can the Samsung evo 250gb msata fit in the msata drive bay? is there a rule of thumb with the sizes ? -
@kvnhvn. In the Schenker FAQ they mention that Gigabyte has a 61Wh battery which has the same size as the 47Wh. So it should fit with the 2,5 "tray".
@centurion87:
As long as it's MSata it fits. I also installed my crucial m500 with no problem. -

Will it be possible to replace the battery in the older model with the newer battery?

Dumb question, but the fan noise when compared to my Asus G46VW, is the the same or is my Asus still quieter?
Talking about idle and load for both CPU and GPU? -
Karamazovmm Overthinking? Always!
it does still have the HDD bay and it still comes with a large battery
if that is true I may pull the trigger soon and enjoy the back to school specials -

Hey guys, I just got my Gigabyte P34Gv2 from XoticPC, and it's running like a charm. However, I heard from numerous people that it should come with a couple programs already installed, like the Gigabyte control panel (for adjusting fan speed, etc.), but the only thing that showed up on my desktop was 3D Vision Photo Viewer and Recycle Bin. Any ideas as to how I can get around this?
-
Try this page - GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series - P34G v2
Also select "Utility" for Downloads see if those programs will help.
Are there any fan problem on idle when it will suddenly burst? How's the noise during load?
Did you get the IC thermal compound upgrade? Temps for idle and load? -
-
I recently received a new Gigabyte P34v2 from XoticPC. I was away for 4 days, so I have finally opened it and am testing it out a bit. Currently, I had XoticPC add the IC Diamond Thermal Compound, and I kept the stock msata with factory OS, win 8.1, 8gig ram, and had them add the Samsung evo 500g SSD).
I noticed there was an Nvidia Driver Update available.... Has anyone updated to latest set...wondering before making the plunge?
I am curious though. I was playing World of Warcraft for roughly 30+ min with settings on HIGH (Not Ultra) using a laptop pad (no cooler), and I noticed my temps were roughly 77C+ on all cores with max of 86C (using CPUID HWMontior)>>>>>>Is this normal?<<<< The fans were going really high as well...but hey...I assume this is Normal when gaming on this slim latop? This is the first "Gaming" laptop I have ever owned, so if there are "ANY SETTINGS" which I should be looking into to help with the HEAT? please let me know. Thank you in advance for any Tips, Tricks etc... you can provide.
I know the picture I provided shows less than 77C but by the time I grabbed a screenshot etc.... they went down. I really just want to make sure I don't COOK a new laptop without hearing back from other Users of this device.
The only other thing I have noticed so far is that one of the fans has a slight "vibrating sound" to it and it doesn't occur all the time. Not sure why? Thoughts Suggestions...please let me know.
Would buying a Laptop Cooling PAD help with Temps? If so… any suggestions?
thank you again for any and all assistance -

I believe the common options people go to are
- Repasting
- Cooling pad
- Undervolting
each yielding up to 5C temp drop. -
So about the
Gigabyte P34 V2 VS MSI GS60
Finally decided to pull the plug and buy the CF4 version with the extended battery+HD version and here are 10 reasons why p34 is better than gs60
The GS60 simply has so many issues, Fans noise issues and wireless dropping that msi was forced to release drivers/etc to ship
Basically the GS60 vs P34 V2 came down to this for me (I have used both laptops currently but didnt buy one for myself until now)
1-GS60 is simply much louder than P34 at normal use+idle (both are nearly the same at full load)
2-GS60 got Worse touchbad (personal choice here)
3-If you actually open the laptop and see the internals, the GS60 "CPU" only has access to 1 Fan UNLIKE P34 which can access to both Fans, what does than mean pretty much at idle+normal use (most things)/full load (like video editing) which doesn't use GPU much unlike gaming, the P34 will be much cooler since 2 fans are cooling the cpu (gpu not being used in these situations and if did barely 5-10% so fans not really cooling it) so it will not throttle/overheat/etc the (cpu)
4-I have access to a desktop with GTX780 TI so i want a portable laptop now, the p34 wins here it's lighter (almost 1 pound lighter) and smaller (gs60 got massive bezel it's almost 17 in real size)
5-GS60 is filled with wireless issues and problematic, many even reporting issues remain even after trying all updates
6-GS60 runs hotter and too hot for comfortable use without a desk (maxwell on p34 and 2 fans on cpu when gpu not active much)
7-GS60 got worse battery life compared to p34 with the big battery
8-GS60 costs more
9-GS60 got build quality issues, while the P34 does indeed feels cheap and not macbook quality, it's actually much better built than GS60
10-This is subjective but the gigabyte feels like normal laptop doesn't having gaming logo on it, GS60 got a big logo on it with text saying "gaming series"
Only reasons i can think of to get GS60 over p34 are the full keybpoard+Access to 870m option+3K Screen+2x screen output(hdmi+display port) which i don't need
GS60 is a laptop that will be outdated in less than a year duo its issues, P34 is a laptop you can keep for a long time, it's as portable as it gets with what its packing and runs cool, you can actually use it on your lap unlike gs60 which will burn you.
Keep in mind the standard shipped p34 is so average specs wise (5400rpm drive,8gb ram and 128gb ssd) i recommend upgrading to 7200rpm drive/256gb ssd/16gb ram at least to future proof it just for a while longer -
Where did you buy Extended battery + HD from?
