It's likely that the new battery works on the older ones, batteries after a year or 2 degrade a lot then you can simply buy the new battery or simply buy the new one now and keep the old one as a spare/extra battery when needed, batteries are not that expensive, if you paid 1500$ for the laptop the 30$ for the battery wont break the bank

That's pretty normal. My P34 will also hit 90 degrees quite easily unless I set the fans to turbo, which is out of question due to noise.

So I downloaded Intel XTU and set the 4710 to become a 4702. I reduced all turbo clocks by 400MHz, set TDP to 37W and was able to undervolt -85mV.

In Borderlands 2 I get one (!!!) fps less than with full clock, but the machine is very quiet and CPU temps are only in the low 80 after three hours.

Overall the notebook is way cooler.and quieter now. I guess I'll stick with this.

    Hi guys,

Just got my P34 v2 yesterday. I repasted the cpu and the gpu with noctua NT-H1, it went fine, computer boots normally with great temps (~55°C in idle and ~80°C in charge).
But I have a really big problem, my computers turns off from time to time without any blue screen or error (it turns off whereas it is in idle state or charge state).
I disassembled it again to check any components, if my thermal paste was rightly applied and it was fine.
The big mistake I did is that I did'nt test the computer before repasting :( ...
Do you think I should send it back to get it replaced?

That sucks man but in my opinion you should send it back. Does re pasting the CPU and GPU void warranty though? Also may I ask if you got the CF2 or CF4 version and from where?

I just got mine from amazon uk it's the CF3. It came without the ssd so I swaped a samsung 840evo 250gb in the msata and done a clean install everything is allright for now, I like it so far, the build quality seems to be very nice for the price range and the specs.
The only thing I noticed is that when the laptop is plugged and you are touching the metalic surface(hand rest or the lid) you can feel a very slightly static or electric charge with your hands. Is this normal?
Also can someone point me some undervolting guide for dummies? I really think this cpu is too powerfull for the size of this device.

Forgot to add; I'm looking for some small slim power adapter, the oroginal adapter is 120-watt
I can only find 90-watt adapters. Are they safe to use? Will they charge slower that the original power adapter?

The cpu should be fine, macbooks and GS60 manage it with a single fan (gs60 second fan/pipes not touching the cpu), you do realize latest intel cpus overclock themselves (turbo) when they are not running as hot as they suppose to be, if it was getting "really" hot it simply reduces its speed automatically, plus using the stealth fans options already downclock the cpu a lot when needed, p34 can handle the cpu easily

Hey guys I am running into issues with my P34G V2. When I hook it up to an external monitor via HDMI it sets the graphics mode to 1080i in DX11 games. It all ends up in bad flicker plus the horizontal refresh rate is set to 34KHz. I could reproduce this with two monitors. When I set the resolution below 1920x1080 it's all well.

What's going on here? What can I do?

@charteris: Mine even came with a 150W power brick. I wouldn't advice a 90W one, as notebookcheck states that it can draw up to 130W unter max load. Not that gaming will ever push it that far, but I wouldn't recommend stressing a PSU on its top limits for longer.

About the undervolt. As stated I set mine to the clocks of a 4702. My multis are set to: 4 x 29; 3 x 29; 2 x 30 and 1 x 31. I am stable up to -83mV undervolt. In gaming the laptop is much quieter and 15°C cooler. I do lose one fps though.

Here is how you do it.

I thought it worth sharing in here info from a gigabyte rep on ocuk - in case anyone's about to pull the trigger on a p34g in the UK, and is interested in the 61.25Wh battery version - apparently there will be 3 new configs - CF4, CF5 and CF6 with this larger battery to be available in the UK sometime in September (hopefully no delays).

They're basically refreshes of CF1, 2, 3, with the only difference I can see being the battery - so 1 is the same as 4, 2 is the same as 5, 3 is the same as 6.

I intend to wait a few weeks for the CF5.

Just set the multipliers the way they are in the picture. Then you can also set Turbo Boost Power Max to 37W. At last save the profile under any Name. Then click apply. As HTWingNut states in his video you can try undervolting more in very tiny steps (1 click each). Best do it wihle gaming. When the computer freezes, you know you have to go sltightly higher on the vcore. Gaming is the best way to find the sweet spot of your machine. Screenshot (17).png

    Hello everyone,

Silly question about the P34Gv2. I've owned it since late april and used it almost entirely plugged in and noticed something just recently as I as I about to take it on vacation.

    My question:

While my P34Gv2 (Bios FB04) is plugged in; the core speed of the laptop hovers around 3-3.3ghz. (Using CPU-Z to see this information) I have the system to in power profile to High Performance (Windows 8.1 power options) and also the Gigabyte Smart Manager system.

This changes drastically when unplugged (on Battery) with the exact same settings; the system tops out at 1.296mhz. Nothing I can do can make it go past 1.296mhz.

I understand, more power will cause battery drain but this seems odd to loose so much performance.

    Any information will be helpful!

    Thanks
    mrDisc0

Thanks for the info. I got my multiiers down and a -70mV undervolt and I'm already seeing temps around the high 70s with a pretty quiet max fan on auto fan control (after a quick 30min stress test). Now to play some games and mess around with that undervolt more

Hey guys my P34GV2 just came in and I wanted to make sure I actually got the bigger battery version. Is there anyway I can check? Without just testing the battery ofcrouse. I used aida64 and in Designed Capacity it says 63536 mWh. Also does anyone know how to check if your CPU is a engineering sample? Supposedly HIDevolution the company I ordered it from has switched out processors in the past and I just wanted to double check I had the OEM one. Thanks.

HWInfo would be able to give you CPU info.
63WH model would be the EU version where the extended battery takes up the second drive bay if I'm not mistaken.

The cpu is soldered so they can't switch it easily.
63Wh is the biggest battery, without the 2.5'' drive I think

I have both an SSD and a HDD so my 2.5" slot is not taken by a battery. HIDevolution says it was the 61.25wh version. I've been trying to convert wh to mwh and vice versa, but the numbers dont make sense. So im guessing this is the 61.25 wh version then?

If that's the case it'd be specifically marked as the CF4 model number. Not sure what the 63wH version would be marked as.

It'd be marked so on the machine/box as well. If you wanted to confirm it, look on what you have. The battery will also be marked as to what it is. You can even use that same HWinfo program to look at your battery info you wanted more assurance.

Alright thanks. On the box it only says P34GV2 nothing about CF4. Also on HWinfo it is displaying the same thing as aida64. "Designed Capacity: 63536 mWh." It probably is the 61.25wh battery.

Onkelsuppo >>> Thanks posting the link for the Xtu undervolting. I haven't attempted it yet, but thank you. I am going to watch the video a few times to determine if I want to attempt this.

I will be honest, at the moment, this machine is just playing WOW... but again after 30 min on High settings the Temps (even after paying XoticPC to repaste) were running at 77C with max of 86...which seems damn HIGH for re-pasting...but again...I have never had a gaming laptop. I have just read every post in this thread and it seems high for re-pasting @ 30 min of an old game?

    Thanks again

Hey guys I think I have a problem with my wifi. The problem occurs after my laptop wakes up from sleep mode I think (or whatever mode it goes into when you close the screen for a prolonged period of time). When it starts back up it cannot connect to my wifi network. The only way to fix it is if I right click on my network settings bar on the bottom right and press troubleshoot problems. When I check for additional information it says it restarted the wireless adapter. My wireless driver is the latest version using the Smart Update. Thanks.

Below is a picture of what my troubleshooting report looks like:

I also did some testing tuesday and yesterday. Tuesday I played Borderlands 2 with the machine on my coolingpad (fan off) and with notebook fans set to auto. I experienced the same beahaviour as you did. My CPU temps maxed at 87°C after three hours of gaming, the GPU maxed at 79°C. The XTU graph shows, that the CPU temps are around 83-84°C but sometimes hit 87°C. The fans however are very quiet.

Yesterday I played three hours of Borderlands 2 (witht a resolution of 2560x1080 ;) ) with Fans set to Turbo. My max after 3 hours were CPU 81°C; GPU at 65°C (71°C with 100MHz OC).
As you see there is room for better temps, however the fans on auto are set to keep things quiet rather than cool. But 90°C on the CPU is not critical even when gaming longer. So don't worry.

If you want to improve things even more. Use nvidiainspector and set a frame limit at 35 fps for slow games like Civ5 and such. This will also cool the CPU further down.

HTWingNut explains it pretty good in this video.

Just got mine today and I love this machine. Been playing borderlands and skyrim and having a ball. However, in google chrome, steam, and other apps, the text and images are blurry. This shouldn't happen on a 1080p screen. How do I fix it?

That's the case when high DPI scaling was enabled. To change it, right click on the respective .exe files (i.e. Chrome) and under Compability set "Do not scale when high DPI". The programs don't look fuzzy anymore. However in Chrome you can upsize the default fontsize, which helps a lot with such small screens.

Hey Addsome, with regards to the battery used, Gigabyte offers 3 versions:

    Li-polymer, 11.1V, 47.73Wh
    Li-polymer, 14.8V, 63.64Wh
    Li-polymer, 15.2V, 61.25Wh

*Models with a 63.64Wh battery does not support 2.5” drive.

    GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series - P34G v2

How was your experience with HIDevolution? I've been looking all over for the larger capacity battery version in the U.S.
And also, how IS the larger capacity battery anyway? Long power times so far? :)

HIDevolution was great. I ordered my laptop late in the day and they still managed to ship the laptop same day. I ordered on the 31st of July and received it on the 5th of August. Only reason it even took that long was because it was a long weekend and I ordered on a thursday, plus I live in Canada. As for battery life I havent actually tested it properly but if I am every browsing and I put the laptop on either balanced or power saver battery settings, windows estimates my battery life from anywhere around 5-7 hours.

I am seriously considering buying this laptop as a replacement for my Acer 3820TG. All I am able to find (in stock that is) in the UK is the CF3 model. I know it is shipped without the mSATA, but can someone tell me if there is a slot for mSATA in it so that you can place your own mSATA in it?
    Thanks.

    Hi oscarlima,
Have a look at scan.co.uk for the P34G V2 CF6. This is the same as the CF3, however with the larger battery. I think that it is available to order now.
As for the mSata, there is an available slot, there is no caddy requirement and the only thing you need is 1 screw, which if it doesn't already come with the laptop, it will be included in your mSata.

17.0.0.34 works best for me. You can roll back the driver in Device Manager -> Network Adapters -> Intel Wireless Card -> Properties -> Driver -> Rollback.

Or try the driver directly from Intel, which is even newer than the Beta driver in Smart Update. Which Windows Version do you use?

Thanks for the tip. Indeed the CF6 seems the better option than the CF3. Are you absolutely sure that the slot is there? That would be perfect. There is no limitation because of the larger battery I hope?
Final question: I live outside the UK and presently use a US style keyboard. The UK keyboards often look like this: teclatUKok.png
I prefer a keyboard layout like this: teclatUSok.png Note the difference between the Enter-keys.
Can you (or anyone else) confirm what kind of keyboard the P34G sold at scan.co.uk comes with?

Edit: Inquiry at scan.co.uk learns they only ship the UK layout keyboard. They can get US layout, but they need a minimum of 50 items from their supplier.
Can one of the current owners tell me if it is difficult to change the keyboard later? Possibly also the top cover.

Should I order this from xoticpc or gentechpc? I heard xoticpc QA's their products thoroughly if you ask for it to be built (all I need is repaste), but does Gentech do the same? I want to minimize the chance that I have to deal with returns, exchanges etc.

If anyone is interested I just spoke to Derek from XoticPC and he said they will likely not sell the 63.64Wh battery version (the one with no HDD) since Gigabyte currently has no plan to sell this model in the US (his exact answer was "Likely not, everything indicates that model as not being available in the US").

Also the P34G v2 CF4 spec list was fixed and it now correctly lists the larger 61.25Wh battery instead of the 47.73Wh battery which is only available for the CF1 and CF2 models.

On a side note I love this guy! He has been super helpful and was very patient answering all my questions and promised to keep me updated via email when I unconventionally asked to literally have the package measured and weighed the next time this system is sold for shipping calculations (I plan to ship outside the US myself once I receive the package). Thanks again Derek!

Edit: PS to the guy above me I believe they QA all products even if you buy the stock version because this options is chosen in the custimization screen by default. Although I would appreciate a confirmation from XoticPC reps who are reading this thread as this is the main reason I am planning to buy from them.
