Is the 15X V8 going to get these natively? Doesn't seem like much hardware changed apart from the GPUs and the i9 option

One more thing guys. I've installed Realtek drivers from V9 [6.0.1.8581] and now I have able to use Dolby Atmos.

It also works for 15W V8, I just tested it!

The only strange thing Im getting is that battery sensors fail, Gigabyte Smart: battery reccomended replace, but it is at 100% capacity.

The other thing is that I can only open it when im on the desktop not over any app.

I hope to get that natively soon...

How did you install the newer audio driver... Just remove old and reinstall v9 once? Or just updated?

I just installed the Control Center (CC). It barely drops the multipliers. I see that it will drop to around 20x then jump straight up again. This is just idling on the desktop with the CC, CPUz and the task manager open

Noob question, is that a perf improvement? Can you please explain what it means? I tried Googling it, so if I understood correct, it doesn't "throttle" down hard? Sorry not sure what that means.

Okay, can you or someone please confirm it is as easy as uninstalling previous SM+fusion and installing the new ones?

I'm asking because I read multiple times that for some people when they updated to the new SMv4, despite installing through Smart Update, they still have v3 AND v4 installed on the same computer. Same for me, I have v3 and v4 in Program Files. Someone tried removing v3 manually but apparently you need both v4 and v3 for the FN keys to work flawlessly.

Sorry just being very cautious, from experience you can never be too careful with these laptops ;)

It saves battery if you are not doing anything. Think of it like a car. If you stop at a light, you dont want to have the throttle wide open so you save gas. But when you want to overpass someone or go on a hill, you need power thus you step on the gas

I don't use SmartUpdate. Before installation, I've checked that SmartManager was uninstalled properly.
Fusion needs to be uninstalled because ControlCenter has integrated fusion.

Any idea if this'll work on the Aero 15v7? I've got it installed, but I'm not sure whether things are working right or not.

EDIT: Seems like the only thing not working right now is the FN combination to turn off the touchpad. I still have the display issues from earlier, but I just extracted and saved the color profiles and applied them manually.
That, and I no longer have the toggle to turn off my webcam. Nor can I apply my XRite colour settings through CC. Have to apply it manually as well.

Okay so as advised, I removed Fusion and Smart Manager and installed Control Centre. Most Fn keys seem to be working.

Does anyone know what the "Device Information - GPU/CPU" are for? They are clickable. See screenshots? Control Centre1.jpg

I think this is not implemented yet.

IMHO: Hope V8 will have ControlCeneter instead of SmartManager soon.
But anyway, most of functions is working. Power plans much better implemented than in ugly SmartManager.

Just to confirm Kingston KVR26S19D8/16 works with the Kingston RAM shipped with on 2666MHz. Prob the cheapest option to upgrade Aero V8 to 32GB RAM.

Interesting, Power plans works for me. Yes, auto brightness option isn't there, have to adjust it through windows settings.
Battery status is bugged for any device that's not the new one.

Double keystroke issue, I had it on my previous 15 v7 7700hq but it got resolved by a firmware update.

I upgraded to a 15xV8 8750h, updated all drivers including keyboard firmware, fusion etc but still got double key entry for a few keys.

Did anyone have it on their v8 and fixed through software update or did you have to send it in for repair?

Fan curves? You could set a custom curve through the Smart Manager but you could only go as low as 30%, compared to 0% on the GS65.

guys, I've noticed that the screen flexes a lot.

I was holding the laptop in my hand and walking, and I've noticed that the screen flaps everytime I move and its very annoying.

here's a video of me resting the laptop on a table and nudging the laptop screen with my left index finger: https://streamable.com/s/ab6hr/exzjyg

Is this just me? or is this normal ?

I noticed that too. Other AV systems like Avast and AVG don't detect it as a virus so my guess is it's a false positive.

Also disk performance when copying lots of small files runs at about 40% of full speed with Windows Defender real time protection on compared to about 90% with Avast.

    I totally agree.
Here, no smart manager working, I have to waste days with reinstall windows, settings, software... only to get this fan manager working. I found no other way to manage fans...
I noticed that Gigabyte dropped driver update. Exemple : same audio hardware for AERO 15X (i7-8750H) and AERO 15 (i7-7700HQ) , but audio driver is not updated on the last one...
Sometimes you don't even have the same versions on website and smart update...
I'm so happy with my hardware, and so disappointed with the software.

    EDIT :
Uninstalled Fusion and smart manager, installed control center, and it works on V7
I can finally use Fan control.
Appart the battery information showning "recommanded replace" everything look fonctionnal

Do you guys know what is AI Gaming & Professional utility?
    Is it usefull for V7?
    Thanks

Hello everyone, Recently I've added a Samsung 970 Pro 512gb SSD in my Aero 15w v8 & installed windows 10 into it. But the windows login boot up is really slow. It takes around 30 seconds to complete the login. I've turned off the internet and tried to boot but there was no improvement. Also turned off signing in with Microsoft account and instead opted for local account but still not change. Is there any way to reduce the login time?

Btw I've tested the SSD with Diskmark64 and the result is similar to the ones showed in various reviews. It is completely fine and blazing fast.

Did you check if storage or NVME is set to AHCI or Raid and you did a fresh install of W10 once the 970 Pro was installed?

It is set to AHCI mode and did a fresh Win10 installation in 970pro. One thing I noticed the windows loading screen boots in a splits second also the shutdown time is very short but the account login screen is delayed almost 30s.

Hi all, quick question. Between the

    i7-8750, 144hz screen and GTX 1060 Gigabyte Aero 15W

and the older i7-7700, 60hz and GTX 1060 Aero 15,

others than the specs differences, are there any other big differences?

Like for example, is battery life the same? Chassis and keyboard quality? etc?

    Thanks in advance for answers

    Maybe here..

After having installed my ram and sdd and bunch of software I notice my keycap Y popping off so now and then...

Been in touch with my seller, gigabyte support and they both wont send out replacement keycaps and hinges. Wich is sad because sending it back just for this does not meassure up to the time spend installing and tweaking the laptop..(wich works great) And I need it for work.

Now I read on reddit someone describing the same issue and simply fixing it self by bending back some clips. Now I have been trying to figure out what is meant by this.
The hinge holding the keycap itself is white plastic. And the hinge is held by metal clips, but its not the hinge popping off, just the keycap.

Has anyone an idea, came across the same issue and was able to fix it? Or suggetions on how to get a new keycap and hinge?

Update, switched my Y and U keycaps, and now they both stay on perfectly. Makes it even more frustrating that Gigabyte is not willing to just send over a replacement keycap... What is up with their one tree policy...

Nothing as far as I know. The newer batches of the 15v7 had most of the keyboard issues fixed. Older batches of the 15v8 had some bad chattering issues, probably have been resolved by now.

    Hi everyone!

So I just purchased a second-hand Aero for 1500. Looked brand new. I popped in another 16GB stick I had laying around and it is now running in dual channel with 32GB DDR4 2666MHz.

I did test it prior to purchasing, by monitoring some temps during a Heaven benchmark. However, I was looking merely at the CPU temperature overall via Rivatuner, rather than each individual core. I noticed under a stress test that some cores are only at ~75C, while others hit 88-92C and thermal throttle the chip.

I would imagine this is due to the heatsink not making proper contact, but I'm not entirely sure that is something I could fix in a laptop without the potential of breaking it while bending it.

Even if I repasted it with Kryonaut, it still would not fix the issue (I would presume).

Any help fellow enthusiasts? Thanks in advance!

Howdy! This thread has been super helpful as a relatively new Aero 15 (i7-8750H) owner. I've had it for a couple months, and solved some of my issues (e.g. battery life and the task manager freezing) through this thread & forum, but I'm struggling with persistent blue screens of death and am hopeful that someone here might have struggled with something similar (or might be able to point me in the direction of some diagnostics to run). About once a week, I get a "DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE" BSoD. I also have occasional - but less worrying - issues with the computer regularly freezing up for a split second during usage until I reboot it.

    Some more info:
    • I haven't been able to notice a pattern of usage that causes it - sometimes it's while the computer is fairly idle but other times it's in the middle of coding / streaming video / working.
    • My computer is usually on AC power and set to high performance power profile, so it definitely happens under those conditions.
    • If I inspect the Windows Event Viewer right after the crash, the error that occurs before the crash appears to be: "The embedded controller (EC) did not respond within the specified timeout period. This may indicate that there is an error in the EC hardware or firmware or that the BIOS is accessing the EC incorrectly." That error occurs quite regularly in the event viewer (>70 times yesterday) without a BSoD, so it might be a red herring. There is usually a corresponding "Dump file creation failed due to error during dump creation" volmgr error in there too with the BSoD.
    • I've done a clean install of Windows 10 twice. This most recent time, I made sure to install smart update and only installed the official drivers. Still BSoDing (and the first one occurred after the first boot into the fresh install).
    • Windows Memory Diagnostic comes back fine, so I think that rules out RAM.
    • I ran LatencyMon, after seeing some threads elsewhere recommend that. It warns that my system may not be suitable for real-time tasks, with the highest latency for ACPI.sys.
I submitted a ticket to Gigabyte support, but they just directed me to repairs. Is there any way I can completely be sure that there is a hardware problem before I have to go through repairs process (backing up the computer, wiping it, purchasing a crappy replacement so that I can still work while it's in the shop)?

Is it always the same cores? I find it unlikely to be a heatsink tolerance issue. What's more likely, the hot core is the one being turbo-boosted, until it thermal throttles. Pretty normal behavior, especially if you are doing a stress test.

That BSOD haunts my dreams. I've seen it since pre-windows 10 days on my old Sager and I still get it today on my aero. Seems like it was always an optimus related issue, and I could always replicate the bsod. For my sager it meant unplugging from the wall while using the dedicated GPU. USB devices would just stop working and eventually the whole system would crash.
On my aero this means plugging in an external monitor and leaving my computer to idle. Eventually it will just crash.
May have solved the Sager with patience and driver updates, still crash on the gigabyte so I don't use an external monitor if I can avoid it.

Same here, a reinstall kinda slow down the occurences tho (it used to be every 2 days, now it can run for about a week before it bsod). Still recalling Optimus issue that I also experience in the early days on Dell LX502 and Lenovo Ideapad (kinda forgot the models), and it took about 1 year to solve it.

Just testing the VENTION Type-C 8-1 on the Aero 15x v8, connected simultaniously (another 4usb hub is used, connected on the VENTION) :
    • HDMI 1080p 60hz
    • RJ45 Gbps
    • 2 x external HDD
    • USB Headphone
    • Mouse
    • Keyboard
Got 120Mb/s when coping from one external hdd
Got 75+85 Mb/s when coping from both external hdd simultaniously

Yikes. Those are both disheartening to hear. My last laptop was an asus rog, which also used optimus, but had zero issues with crashing or freezing. (Of course, it was also 3x the size and weight of the aero...)

I'm happy I returned my 15X, got a GS65 now and looking back the 15X was a software mess. And the keyboard/trackpad(not as smooth material wise) is much better and more functional... I do miss the full numpad (but not the small 0. key) though.

Anyone getting 8hrs + battery life with the latest Nvidia and Smart Manager drivers/updates?

I am using the old Smart Manager and official Nvidia drivers to achieve these great battery life results. The newest version of Smart Manager would not idle my GPU.

How our Aero 15 is built! Not everyday you see behind the scenes of a product you buy, love it.
