I wonder why no shop in Germany or Austria has an Aero 15 in storage, except for one online store. I wrote to them and they told me keyboard issues are still there, they also don't have them in storage but probably would have it ready in a week. They will recheck and get back to me. Now if one of the best laptops out there is barely available in western Europe, I am growing suspicious. Is there a secret recall in progress? What's going on?

@tobham: the availability of the Aero 15 in Europe has been very low since the release, even before the keyboard issue has been raised.

Please keep us updated on this, I'm about to order off HIDevolution this week, wonder if I can get one with new keyboard rather than the old one. That would be most favourable.

I purchased the Aero 15 from Gentech PC. Before I did, I called them to confirm they had tested the Killer 1535 with it since they were offering it. They assured me it worked.

It absolutely does not. I paid over two grand for a laptop (which shipped late, by the way) that needs to be tethered to a freaking lan line.

I have emailed Gentech and am still awaiting a reply. Needless to say, I am pretty displeased with this crap since I specifically called them and brought up this issue BEFORE I even ordered.

Anywho, be wary of adding the Killer 1535 to your rig and reconsider ordering from these Gentech guys.

Did anybody noticed that Pantone Color deactivates if you open fullscreen app (game for example)? Colors gamma shifts a little bit to green once I open Overwatch.

Well my aero 15 came in the other day and wow I'm so glad I took the risk and grabbed one the keyboard shortcuts work fine and the screen does have slight light bleed but I don't notice it when on only at boot screen (black) my screen also won't shut by itself when it's bent down close to the keys unless it's very very close. The screen being 1080 was worrying me cause I use a ultrawide that is "4K" and a 4K monitor and let me say this 1080p panel is very good it almost looks glossy and colorful like a mac, I did try to boot into mac and it worked I just need to purchase a USB wifi adapter since I cannot run wireless off the intel wifi chip. I'm super picky with my screens so I'm glad it worked! It's also fairly good so far on editing in after effects one thing I don't like is it's not reading the 1060 I'm still working on that. My version came with a crucial ssd and a fairly nice 16gb ripjaw ram. I did replace the ram to 32gb vengance ram and it read it perfectly.
The light bleed looks way more dramatic on the photo. I'm a fan of glossy panels but this one makes me feel like I've been missing out on matte ones!

The only few problems I have is I wish there was a cap lock light instead of on the screen. And that the number keys are the same space away from the others I wish there was a little bit bigger of a gap between the keys where the numbers start but not an issue.
And the bottom panel is SUPER hard to take off I was worried like crazy I'd break something.

The part about you successfully hackintoshing the device I find intriguing, did it take long? And apart from the GPU, what else doesn't work?

Not as long as the other ones I've done I still have to get more working the Audio only works via the headphone jack and the wireless won't work but the USB wifi should fix that issue , I just used the config files from a dell xps lol. I know the 1060 will never work cause Optimus but I think the intel gpu will be ok for little tasks, it's saying I have 7mb to use for the mac but I'm sure there is a way to fix that also.

    FYI guys :) https://i.imgur.com/aDlpVCk.png
UHD SKU with the kbd fix becomes a real option for those who haven't bought affected FHD yet.

UPD: imho, their response affirms indirectly that sellers can't send old defective units to GB facilities for the moment. Though not sure how good are units with mfg date >= Aug2017

What a joke, these guys can't get their stories straight. You may want to try reaching out to a representative from the sales department just to verify the policy, seeing as how that's where the information in my previous post came from.

    Hey @Dannya951 ,
Agree some of them is telling lies and/or incompetent o_O I can leave a comment that some representative X (just give me exact name and details) told the opposite. Also you can double check with that representative using my ticket as a reference: https://i.imgur.com/BmEcZs1.png - this option is more preferable coz I'm not a native speaker to write good demanding emails :)

They really don't care about couple of HD tickets.
It would be nice if everyone here submit a ticket asking about keyboard replacement. Tweeting, FB posting - make this thing loud.

Hi guys! I desperately need a laptop before college, do you think the keyboard issue will be fixed in a couple of weeks so I can order my aero 15 before I leave?
I'll buy it from amazon.com and get it shipped to Europe, so it would take a while to get replacements or returns. Is it worth risk?
    Why all the good laptops (xps 15, razer blade, aero 15) have quality control issues ;_;

We have no official (meaning public) information about how they are (or even if they are) going to fix the keyboard.
I'm lucky that having a new laptop is not an urgent necessity for me, but still, it's getting tedious, especially with high-end high priced laptops

Hi guys. I have a question for owners here. Do you think this laptop worth buying? Well, someone can say that the answer of this question is more than 100-page long most of which I've already read. But I'm asking if the owners are really happy with the device, without regretting their choice. Without thinking that another specific laptop would be a better one for their money :)

Apart from the known issues like keyboard ghosting, can it give the performance promised uncut and without rising above temperatures like 80-85 C during long sessions (gaming or cpu heavy tasks) like they say in the reviews? Maybe after undervolting (without liquid metal)?

Assuming that someone got a flawless Aero 15, how long do you think can it last before something inside dies? I know this question is a bit... hard to answer but I generally use my laptops until they become useless or dead.

    Thanks in advance.

Hi Everyone! I've been searching around for a new laptop and this one looks like it might have the right combination of what I was looking for.

I use my laptop connected to power 99% of the time (only reason for having a laptop rather than a desktop is that it needs to move countries with me every few months). I used to quickly screw up batteries by having them fully charged the whole time (bad for li-ion batteries). In recent years I've managed this by removing the battery (always had an externally accessible battery up till now) except when needed.

So I was wondering - are there any battery charge threshold options (e.g. start charging at x%, stop at y%) in the BIOS or anything to help with this (I see Dell provides these)? Or, is disconnecting the battery a realistic option (or just too much of a pain)?

    Thanks!

Bad news. I called in today, and got a totally different answer again. The representative I spoke with said "we had a meeting with HQ and decided not replace the keyboards." I don't know if by HQ he's referring to Gigabyte Taiwan vs. Gigabyte USA, but whatever corporate entity is in charge has spoken and decided keyboard replacements aren't happening across the board. Management's decision to not replace the keyboards was based on two factors:
    1) 3+ Key Rollover / Non-Ghosting was technically never marketed as a feature on the Aero 15, so apparently they're legally not really required to do anything about it. As such, they've decided such a replacement program wouldn't be worth the cost and bad PR.
    2) The keyboards used on the Aero 15 apparently come from three different manufacturers, and at least one of them can be "fixed" with software/driver/firmware updates alone, no macros required. Unfortunately, there's apparently no way to tell based on serial number which keyboard you have. Even worse, you may have one of the "fixable" keyboards, and you still wouldn't be able to tell because the software/driver/firmware updates that Gigabyte's repair center is using to fix them is technically still in beta and not yet available to the public. So, for the time being, they don't want to have everyone send in their laptops if a third of them don't need to be sent in.

As far as servicing goes, the news isn't great. Edward in the customer service's notebook support group said customers are allowed to send in their laptops for keyboard service. The same shipping rules listed in my last post still apply, you just have to send in proof of purchase with an appropriate date. The repair center will try their beta fixes to see if you have one of the miracle keyboards. If you do and the fixes work, they verify the previously non-functional key combinations and send the laptop back to you. If you have any other keyboard, the repair center will petition "HQ" to see if they can perform a hardware fix.

What makes no sense to me is why HQ would decide against a broad policy of replacing keyboards, only to potentially authorize individual keyboard replacements in the future. Obviously they decided they're covered legally and that the cost isn't worth it, so it seems like they're really not incentivized to/interested in helping the customer, anyway. But for what it's worth, the possibility of having your bad keyboard replaced still technically exists. Turnaround time at the repair center is 5-8 business days. Accounting for shipping, the process of checking key combinations and having the laptop serviced could take up more than half of a retailers 30-day return period. I may give it a shot and just have it serviced as soon as I purchase it.

@p0izn Sorry, I forgot to bring up the issue of your ticket. Let me know if you want me to call again specifically in regards to that, I'd be happy to help.

Yeah it's pretty much the same with most companies unless you get Ann Apple or buy through Costco :(

So many farm out support to Asia where they use scripts to basically try to make you give up.

Hi, for me, if I had to do it again, I would do it again without hesitation. The laptop corresponds perfectly to my expectations (doing MAO), and I don't notice keyboard or screen problem like we can read here.

I don't know because I don't play, I made some photo processing but not for long period.

Difficult to estimate. 10 years ago, I bought an Asus gaming 15" laptop (there was 10 years). It was in plastic and didn't like it 2 years after. After that I bought an Sony which was a good one but there was a switch to commute between graphic card and embedded graphic --> useless and source of bugs. For working, I used some Dell (I have an XPS 13 at this time. I think they are good quality laptop and they can last more than 4 years before beeing progressively obsolete. The principal default on my XPS 13" is the lake of port (only 2 USB+1display port...).
Now I have the Aero 15 for my personnal use. It's a good one with a robust chassis and high end component. It's a good compromise between gaming laptop with (but fragile materials) and pro ultra portable (but with the lake of in/out ports). It's the first time I have one with all this criteria, and I like the look (I have the green one and the Numeric Pad is very appreciable). I hope this one will still be in full use in 4 years, I will probably consider replacing it in 5 or 6 years

Note : in forums, owners generaly reports there problems. In my opinion, the product reviews in the forums are not representative. When all is Ok with your materials, you don't need to report it. For me all is ok and I am very satisfied.

And sorry for my very bad english...

Ok well what do other people suggest then as the next best since Gigabyte isn't getting their act together.

I'm coming from an x3+ v3 that fell apart in less than 2 years. I really don't want to go bigger than the aero 15.

That's exactly why I'm sure it was the perfect choice for me too
But for pro usage, the keyboard issues are a big deal.
(and maybe, for gaming in 3/4 years, the TB3 port speed, but it's a lesser issue)

I just made some updates (BIOS, and some drivers). I recommend that you use it as is for a certain period and then see later for a new installation (for example on the occasion of the release of a new Windows)

I didn't observe keyboard issu for me. What I have to do to check this? For the moment, the keyboard do what I want when I press a key.
What is exactly the problem with the TB3 port speed, and how can I check this? I don't have TB3 device and I hope TB3 audio interfaces will be release soon for my use.

What are the keyboard combos that still dont work, ill try on mine, But as far as i know ive been editing RED 4k footage for 8 hours a day and also using handbreak and this machine has not felt "slow" i have a really good desktop i use for work at home 6800k and 1080ti , this laptop as far as i know is very fast nothing compared to my desktop but the fact i can edit in a car or on the go and not have a laptop that is thick and heavy is amazing to me.

I also did ask when the laptop was still in transit. And i got basically the same response as the others.

I am starting to realize the laptop is not available ANYWHERE in Europe. No one has it in storage since weeks. Shops that claim to have it coming in "soon" are just bullshitting or pushing their luck.

Been buying laptops now over many years, but this IS weird.

Well. This store, for example. who is officially listed on the Gigabyte page, has them in Stock, but at the same time, doesnt have it in stock but has a waiting time for 3-4 weeks: https://www.computeruniverse.net/en/family/60011126/gigabyte-aero15.asp (the exact same models) This seems to me the usual trick to get orders, and then hoping to put buyers off until they arrive.

I called another official store, Alternate.de, yesterday, if the laptop will be really in store by today, they said, sure yes, (so i ordered) and today the waiting time is extended from 1 day to 1 month. This is bullshitting.

I tried some of the mentioned key combinations and its seems that mine has no issue. I must specify that I have a french AERO 15 with AZERTY keyboard. Furthermore, in my opinion, most of the mentionned keyboard combinatons are useless in a common usage...

Common is relative. I run into one of these every single day.

Judging from past experiences in french interne-cafes, I will have to say that french keyboards are one of the most annoying things on this planet. Then again, for you guys thats what it must feel with every non-french keyboard. ;)

Concerning Aero: I got notice they will ship mine in max 3 days. I will test the - german - keyboard and update here if there are issues.

Sorry but as I'm french, I don't think that french keyboards are one of annoying things on this planet. You could just say that this is not suitable for you...

Take it easy man, I'm sure no offence was intended :)

I have worked in Berlin for one year, switching between quertz at work and azerty at home and I'm still alive!

Have any of you managed to find skins for the laptop? I mailed dbrand but apparently the demand isn't high enough to warrant them producing one. Any other options?

One a side note, my backlight bleed has been pretty minimal. Thermal is good. Screen is great. Keyboard of course has the issues but I don't use any of those combinations so it has not affected my use. Overall very happy with my purchase. Worth every penny to me

    No problemo ;)

For information, nothing to do with the AERO but for some reason I tried to use the bluetooth to stream the sound of my phone on the computer (like using the computer as a portable speaker). I discover that this is impossible on Windows 10. Indeed, this works perfectly on Windows 7 but since then, Microsoft has decided to remove the functionality on its new version. I find it lamentable on their part.
So, it was just a little mug against Microsoft.
Sorry for the off topic, the parenthesis is closed.

    Easy there buttercup.

I wish there was a way we can ensure to get new stock vs old. I was really hoping for an upgrade in Q3 but I'm doubting now even before the new year.

After adding a second M.2 NMVe drive ( Samsung 1TB PM961 Single Sided 80mm (2280/2280SS) M.2 PCI Express 3.0 x4 (PCIe Gen3 x4) OEM NVMe SSD - MZVLW1T0HMLH) and a second stick of 16gb RAM, the system behaved perfectly. Finished with all updates from Gigabyte post win10 pro fresh install on new ssd. Turned off laptop for the night, now it will not boot from either ssd, only boots to BIOS. Both factory sata ssd and nvme drives show up in BIOS, but on the boot options, with UEIF OS option is selected, there are no boot devices shown. Change to Legacy OS, save and reset the boot process goes past BIOS, looking for boot media. Re-enter BIOS, boot options show the 1TB NVMe drive. Change boot option back to UEIF OS, save and reset, the system will only boot back to BIOS and does not show a boot drive/partition under boot options. W.T.F.

Hardware Steps taken: note all steps attempted on and off power supply

    1. Remove added components (RAM and NVMe drive) - same boot failure
    2. Moved SATA drive to port 0 - same boot failure
    3. Removed SATA drive, Used new NVMe drive in port 1, same boot failure, move to port 0, same boot failure
    4. Reinstalled factory drive to port 1 as configured at factory, closed system back up.

I've done the fundamental hardware and BIOS troubleshooting, there is either an issue with the FD08 BIOS or with the disk controller. Paid way too much for this to occur only 3 days after receiving the laptop and the temptation to introduce it to a few RIPJAW 12ga. Rounds is only hampered by the $2100 I paid for this thing.

Any thoughts? Have I missed a potential troubleshooting step?

I fired this off to Gigabytes not so technical support(-ish) through their online form..not holding my breath for a timely reply.

Did buy this from Newegg, can't call them for another few hours, but I'm not holding my breath there either. Frakking 5 hours wasted reloading a win10 pro fresh install and all the gigabyte drivers for nada. I'm beyond annoyed and frustrated, that won't bode well for the first CS REP to play stupid games, won't go well for them or their next two line bosses.

Sir, did you try to power off and power your device back on again?

Yes... I'd say about 30 times over the course of about 90min during the troubleshooting process. Booting while on power and on battery to ensure there wasn't a power issue.
