Well as a last ditch effort, I recreated the win10 install media onto a usb drive and reran the install. Done before adding back the RAM and NVMe drive. It recognized the factory drive just fine so I powered down, reinstalled the RAM and NVMe drive, reran the install and now I'm back up and running...well installing all this stuff again at least.

I'll report back after a few days or if it exhibits the behaviour again. But if I had to guess, somehow the master boot table corrupted and in 23 year of IT, cant say that is something Ive seen since the win3.11 hardware era. Just odd. Anyone else ever see an ssd lose its mbt randomly before?

lol I meant that is what support will ask. Each and every time someone new named "Bob" or "Mary" responds to your ticket. Even if you have explained very thoroughly all the steps you have taken already.

    Hello guys.

I bought The aero 15 and something is turning me crazy.

I can't play to games (overwatch mostly) with an external screen.
When I plug with hdmi my external screen (1920x1200) My GPU temperature increase from 60°C to 90°C (!) and the game is freezing/lagging
When I just play with the screen of the laptop everything is perfectly fine and temperature stay around 60°C....
Wtih my old laptop I never had this.

Someone know how to fix this ?

    Thank you :)

Hmm, that's odd. Did you try using a different kind of input?
How about using whisper mode (helped me a bit in terms of noise and thermals, though I can't game on my external monitor strictly because my laptop doesn't have a DP-Alt enabled USB-C port).

I'll try with display port maybe but it seems crazy to me.
I cant play video games on an external screen... This laptop was sold as a gamer laptop....

Did someone on this topic manage to do it properly?

After a lot of deliberation between the Aero 15 / XPS 15 / Macbook Pro 15 (2016), have finally decided to go for the Aero. However, I need some help with regards to the idle temps. With regards to browsing / reading / movie watching, what idle temps does the laptop run ? I have a knee injury and hence am bedridden for a while, so is the Aero tolerable for using it on the lap ? Or are the temps too high and uncomfortable ? Would appreciate some help on this.

    That's your opinion.

Would you sell me back your working Aero ? :)

But I'm now not trusting much in gigabyte support and build quality.. I'm wondering if I should just upgrade my desktop, and buy one of the new shiny Coffee lake laptop (asus zen flipbook 15 or acer nitro spin 5).

I'm playing Forza Horizon 3 on my TV through the HDMI port of the Aero 15
Display on the TV only (no duplicate or extend display)
My TV is 4K but I force 1080p in the Nvidia control panel to be able to get locked 60fps
All my drivers are up to date (Nvidia 385.41)
GPU up to 80°C and CPU up to 90°C

I have no problems with keeping on my lap as long as it's not about gaming.

Same temps and somehow more unstable framerate...
I think there are some issues with Forza games and Optimus. Even though the game is using the GTX 1060, it is somehow affected by the Intel IGP's presence.

Looks like HDMI is managed differently, 100% by Nvidia (more settings in the control panel)

I'd wish they would put a 1070MQ in this and make my decision done. I really want a machine for VR and the 1060 just won't cut it.

Hey guys, need help asap. I bought my aero 15 about 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. This problem started about a week ago, my keyboard backlighting started to glitch out so I reinstalled gigabyte fusion and it seemed to have fix it but then as the week progressed something very unusual started happening, the f3, 3, E, X and the LAlt keys had their blue backlight ON even though the keyboard backlighting was set to be turned off so once again I reinstalled gigabyte fusion but this time the problem persisted, so left this for a week and then the blue LED in the D key stopped working all together so I reinstalled all the drivers but the problem still persists. Any help/ diagnosis would be appreciated.
    Thanks

Has gigabyte addressed the tb3 speed thing? If so did they say it's working as intended or if there's a fix rolling out? If it is "working as intended" will I be able to hook the aero 15 to an egpu?

I saw a user here say a rep replied that gigabyte won't be rolling out fixed keyboards to everybody because the keyboard was never advertised as antighosting. This is utterly absurd. I want to email their rep and ask what else about the components it uses aren't advertised as faulty.

At the very least, they should update their website for the aero 15, list their keyboards for having ghosting problems. That way people are aware, and then they can say it's working as advertised. I had to rma my unit and currently have the luxury of going to another brand. Really want the 4k variant but Gb needs to address these problems.

Doesn't instill much confidence, does it?

    "We're not aware of it."

In big companies like this, the right hand never knows what the left hand is doing.

This is why i tried to collect multiple screenshots of people's HWINFOs so we could collate multiple cases and all email Gigabyte to *make sure* they are aware. (Of course, I was then promptly accused of "raging" against the company or "overreacting".)

Of course, outside of one or two owners in this lounge, my request was met with crickets.

As far as I know, only @Denjin (someone who specifically bought the Aero 15 for eGPU usage) and myself have emailed Gigabyte about it at all.

The possibility of the egpu connectivity is also one of the aspects that drew me to the laptop. Isn't this false advertising? This coupled with their shady policy of withholding the truth is really aggravating.

I really want to like this laptop, even with all the cons of the device, the product still appeals to me overall but I can't reward such business practices.

What brightness is your laptop at? Cameras pick up much more BLB than we actually see in a real world situation so I can't really tell the severity of it. Also your pics show the screen in the dark against a black background which might further exagerate the BLB situation.

You can look at my post for a reference on what the BLB was like on my unit. The BLB wasn't very noticeable in my day to day usage despite what the camera picked up.

I did. Paid 1500ish on new egg for openbox. Got it yesterday, it has backlight bleed fairly bad in bottom right corner. Going to tweek the settings and see if I can improve it, otherwise it goes back.

While the decision to take so long after launch to fix this issue is disappointing, it's good to see real fixes being released. Now if they could just nail down the keyboard issues...

For anyone who is interested, I've got bad news from my most recent call to GB: according to a customer service agent, the 4k model will not be released in the US market until further notice. I tried to speak with someone in sales to get more information, but I couldn't reach anyone. From what we heard, the 4k model had originally been delayed because of a new keyboard design, but I kind of doubt they'd pull the product like this if it were just the keyboard. I'm guessing/hoping it's because they're deciding to rework/redesign for a 1070mq, but again, I couldn't confirm anything with a sales representative. Until I hear it from sales, take this with a grain of salt.

Thanks for the update! Looks like someone at Gigabyte was listening. Glad they did the right thing here. They could just have easily have remained "not aware" of the problem.

@Denjin, sorry, but it looks like you sending your notebook back for RMA was indeed a waste of time as they potentially fixed it with a bios update. Hopefully when you get it back you can confirm if you are indeed getting full performance with your eGPU setup.

Now I can go back to recommending the Aero 15 to people. Before when I did, it always came with the disclaimer that TB3 doesn't work at full speeds, and may never. I'm glad to be able to recommend this laptop again with confidence (keyboard issue gets mentioned of course).

As far as major skin retailers, no one has reported finding one yet. One person found one in a store in Taiwan, and another person made their own. The one who made their own was just a few pages back, maybe you could ask them for details.

I ordered like a week and a half ago with newegg premier, free 3 day shipping. I wasn't home and I just got the laptop. The main 2 problems you want to check for is keyboard ghosting and backlight bleed. I have been tweaking my brightness settings and other things to try and improve mine. I will post before and after pictures soon.

Hey guys. How's it going? I bought the Aero 15 about 2 weeks ago and so far it's an excellent laptop, except for a problem I seem to be having. At the moment, I can't connect a 2nd display to my MiniDP port. The HDMI port works fine, however I've had no luck whatsoever with the MiniDP port.

Anyone have a similar problem? Is there a fix, or do I need to submit a warranty claim? I have updated to all latest drivers (downloading the new BIOS update as I type this) and have mucked around with different display driver versions/cables/converters without any luck.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Just a quick question since I'm interested in buying the Aero 15: are the broken key combinations only with the left ctrl and shift keys, or also with the right keys? From what I've read, all combinations with right keys only should work fine.

Thanks for the reply! How did you connect your Nixeus monitor to your laptop? MiniDP to DP cable? Or did you use a converter in between?

I noticed last night that my Aero 15 really didn't like having an external monitor connected (via mini DP port) on startup. Basically hung the startup process and both laptop and external screen flicked on and off a few times. I was able to resolve with a hard reset (including unplugging the external monitor first) and it worked fine if I connected the monitor once Windows had started.

Has anyone else seen this issue?

Just to add to this, if you end up using a program using this combination. There is always the option of just changing the shortcuts, it is an inconvenient and by no means i approve of a faulty keyboard. Just something to keep in mind though.

That is always an option, but luckily I use a program in which left or right ctrl shouldn't make a difference, so that saves my day. I'll wait for the fixed keyboards though, just to be sure.

    Hi everybody,
I bought one recently, and I used crystaldiskinfo to check whether the one I bought is a new one or not,and the result is 「power on count:90」`「power on hours:5」,is it normal?or will it be possible that the one I bought have been returned to the factory before?(and packed again as if it is a new one?)

So, now that the TB3 issue has been resolved. Does anyone have a TB# dock they can test? I heard before that only one monitor worked. I am hoping this was a bandwidth issue and now they will work appropriately. I have been eyeballing the dell dock or toshiba has one also. Both have 3 monitor support.

Unfortunately I opted to return mine since no one would acknowledge there was a problem. :( This means I can't do any testing, sadly. Good to see they look to have fixed the TB3 problem!
