Could this be a patch for the spectre and meltdown intel vulnerabilities?

Hi All, Is the Smart Update working in latest version on your Aero 15?

I open the software and it won't show up to the list of update.

Hello everyone! I bought an Aero 15 last year around November. I've been using it a lot, I like it in general. The problem I've been having is that there is an intermittent stutter or freeze for about half a second that affects everything from games I'm playing to youtube videos. I have my Nvidia graphics drivers up to date using smart update, but it still occurs. Does anybody else have the same stuttering issue?

    Hi All.

I am hoping you guys can help me with some issues I am having with my Aero 15 before I send it back for a refund.

I bought the machine November last year. Really impressed with it but I noticed that when typing I am getting double key presses. For example if I type “2345” I might get “22345”. If I type “word” I might get worrd”. This also happens with the delete and backspace keys, which means I am deleting more than I want to. Obviously this is extremely annoying and makes the built in keyboard unusable.

I reported this the day after I received the machine so they sent me a replacement. It has exactly the samee problem (i left that typo there as proof!)

This is clearly a design issue, and I have been trying desperately to get through the useless support staff in AU and talk to head office about a possible solution. Gigabyte Australia seems totally uninterested in actually fixing the problem, they just want to give me a refund so that the problem goes away.

Any suggestions on how to solve this issue or who i can contact at Gigabyte? I really don't want to send this thing back as it suits me perfectly. Its such a shame they cheaped out on the keyboard and trackpad (which also sucks)

For the stuttering, it's likely Optimus and is a known issue. You'll have to Google around a bit, there are some workarounds but they all compromise in somevway:; until Microsoft patches windows it'll be a problem.

Anyone have New issues after updating? Currently my laptop seems to not have any real issues. Hate updating drivers / BIOS and then having to find fixes after...

Don’t remember if anyone has posted their Time Spy 3D Mark benchmarks on the aero 15x - does this appear about average? GRAPHICS: 4894 and CPU: 3724 Overall: 4673

The only thing that has been mod on this laptop was the Diamond paste on the CPU and GPU. Curious what others are scoring and if there’s improvements I could make.

My laptop suddenly turned off when I was casually browsing the Internet. It does not turn on again. No LED when plugged in, no response when the power button is pressed or held (No response = screen stays black, no fan spinning, no sound at all, no LED flashing) plugged in or not. The power adaptor LED is on, so it should not be any problem with the power. How do I resolve this? Maybe its the battery? How do I perform a battery reset on the aero 15? Very disappointed with the product. Theres been many issues since I bought it three months ago.

Seems to be inline with the reviews I've seen, which are in the Overall 4600 area. https://www.notebookcheck.net/Gigab...TX-1070-Max-Q-FHD-Laptop-Review.262370.0.html

I have the Aero 15 (not the 15x) and I remember getting scores in the 3600s. Makes sense that going from GTX1060 to GTX1070 would have a pretty decent impact.

Funny, this happened to me just now. Clicking on any of the buttons on top (apps, drivers, windows update package) resulted in an alert telling me Smart Update was not connected to the internet.

I quit and reopened Smart Update and it's working again.

    Mine is similar.
One thing to note is that dual channel RAM improves the CPU scores. Doesn't make a difference in real world usage though.
GPU also overclocks quite well if you are into that stuff.

Did you install the windows fall creators update? If so you need to downgrade.

I was playing SWBF II just fine until that update. Mad stutter and lag immediately after installing.

i was informed about that a few days after i bought the Aero 15. when i found out how bad the laptop was i tried to return it, but since i opened the laptop to add an extra disk they weren't able to accept it back and they informed that by opening it i lost the warranty also. in fact my Aero 15 had all screws protected with something, like a black paint or some kind of sticker.

since then i've been trying to use the laptop as a desktop to minimize the damage i had for buying this model, but now, with the annoying noise on one fan, i can't even use it as a laptop for long next to me.

at this point i'm using an external monitor with a hub and long cables so i can have the laptop far away from me.

I'm facing a similar battery issue with an earlier user. Following your steps, I've noticed that my PWR draw is almost 3 times of yours.

Do you have MSI Afterburner running or any temperature monitoring app open?

Temp monitoring was pegging my CPU to 5~7% usage which resulted in a 24k-ish discharge rate. Closing the monitoring cut that by over half. I don't know why it happens, but it's a reproducible bug on my system.

I don't know about TS as I don't use it myself.

One major reason for over-high power drain is software rather than some kind of hardware issue in most cases from what I've read.

Check to see if you have any unusual CPU usage; is there a program pegging your CPU to 10% constantly, etc. Use task manager for that.

Otherwise I can't think of another reason, but perhaps other more experienced posters can help.

I can't seem to get my usage under 14W. Power Saver doesn't help. This is when I'm using chrome with a bunch of tabs open.
@pengalomian Try doing a refresh of windows 10 (re-install windows without wiping your data). It helped me fix a bunch of issues I was having after updating to the Fall Creators update, including a power draw of 20W.

Where did you buy the laptop from? If it's a store, then they might not accept it back since it was opened, but try contacting Gigabyte to have it serviced under warranty.

Yeah, I opened the back of mine 4 times, added drives, blew out fans, and I just got a status update Thursday that they are replacing my keyboard and fans under warranty. Return shipping is covered, but you do have to pay to get it to them.

    Hey all,

I recently received my Aero 15x from XOTICPC, and everything seems to be working absolutely fine, minus one thing.

When I right click the desktop, or click on the battery icon on the toolbar, I get a slight 0.5ms-1s freeze on my screen.

I have been trying to identify the issue, but can't seem to be able to.

I downloaded Shexview and disabled the Nvidia/Elan/Intel context menus option as another website suggested, and the right click on the desktop freeze issue went away, but the battery click freeze remained.

Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

    Thank you!

That's basically an optimus issue, since some of the windows animations use the dGPU for acceleration. Unfortunately there isn't a fix, the lag is from waking up the GPU when it has been idle for a long time.

If my Aero15 leave it charge even after the battery reach 100%, will it damage/degrade my battery or is it better i leave it at 95% then i slowly use until when need to charge again?? Dont want to feel the pinch of a good laptop like this =/...

    Hi guys.
Meet the new Aero 15W-BK4 owner - me :)

Got it on Amazon from MobileAdvancewith Christmas gaming bundle presents (Gigabyte gaming mouse, neoprene mouse pad, slim backpack and awesome gaming BT headset).

    Well, this gear is AWESOME!!!
Even with stock thermal interfaces it doesn't exceed 75C for CPU and 65C for GPU on 3DMark TimeSpy test and I can switch off the fans at all for productivity (Web development with PHP, DBs, NodeJS, Angular and React in virtual machine) tasks.

The only disappointing things are 1 DP lane and absence of PD on TB3 port which makes any docking solution useless for it.
First time I've thought that my HDMI/DP ports don't work either, but it has been fixed by a proper cables.

So, I'm gonna screw the warranty and apply LM on CPU and GPU both + SSD/RAM upgrades (Samsung 960 Evo 1TB NVME and Kingston HyperX Impact DDR4 2400 CL14 32GB/2x16).

    However I have a question:
Where can I find voltage options in BIOS or elsewhere?
Aero 15 UEFI BIOS is surprisingly scarced and dumb...

Absolutely love this laptop and recommend it to anyone who is on the verge of getting one. I spent hours trying to find a slim, beautiful, reasonably light weight gaming laptop with decent battery life. I can assure there isn't any other model on the market that is as good as this. (opinion)

I do however have some questions:

    1. I hated the ELAN driver so I went ahead and flashed Precision Lenovo drivers. It is working great at the moment but will it cause any issues later?

    2. Is there a sticky post/thread of must-do maintenance or tips for Aero 15?

    3. Laptop is super quiet when browsing web. I do a lot of video editing, if the temperature reach 80degC, is it okay to turn on the fan and run it on maxspeed? If yes how long could I run the fan on maxspeed?

    4. Is there a newer model of Aero coming and if yes anyone know which quarter will it be released in 2018/19? Just curious to know how often they update this series.

    5. Is there any way to return the laptop to factory state if required? I ignored Gigabyte's advice of creating recovery backup USB. Really should have done it :( My concern is that I've heard flashing Windows again could get rid of Gigabyte softwares and some of the drivers that Gigabyte shipped it with and could cause issues.

Thanks heaps in advance for any reply.

Hey Rooney, as a yet-undecided buyer it's heartening to read that the Aero actually seems to work for some people ;) Can you confirm whether or not the infamous key combination issue still occurs in yours? I'd appreciate others who bought their Aero within the past months chiming in on that, too.

This is by far my biggest gripe with this laptop, everything else is really minor in comparison. If your replacement is exactly the same, I won't even try to replace mine, as I suspect the whole production run must be affected.

To be fair, the problem seems to be "fixable" to some extent with muscle memory - the problem is less annoying now than it was in the beginning just because I'm getting used to the keyboard. Don't get me wrong though, it's still **** and really unacceptable at this price level.

My otherwise inferior Clevo (previous laptop) had the best keyboard in the universe compared to this. Shame.

Nope, no issues there. I had the "right click on desktop one second lag" but resolved it by removing nVidia from shellview.

I'm hoping someone would answer my list of questions above as well.

My keyboard is being replaced right now.

The tech told me the key combos weren't working because the original keyboard was being programmed for some type of keyboard macro functionality that ended up being left off of these machines. He indicated a new keyboard would resolve this. (I also had rows of lighting that would intermittently go out with pressure on certain parts of the laptop, and a failing fan, right side)

I should have it back on a week or so. I'll know of the support tech is full of it or not.

Does anyone know if this is due to software, so could replacing a driver fix it like the trackpad issue? Or is it mechanical, then could a 3rd party keyboard replacement?

Also how does this laptop perform with Vr headsets? I was wanting to grab an oculus with this.

Turns out that it was due to the logitech gaming software. For some reason it clashes with smart update. Works well after I close it.

Some of the earlier rampant issues were solved by firmware updates, but I believe ultimately it is a hardware problem.

Just got an aero 15 about a week ago. I noticed a few things and was wondering if others experienced the same. The hinge seems weak. It stands up but when i pick it up if im not careful it falls back or fowards. Anyone one else have this? The right shift key is not as bright when lit. Also is there a way to adjust the degree angle where the screen closes to put it in sleep mode? The space key is loud on release. Anyone else notice this? Also warranty claims anyone experience deal with sending it in? I heard gigabyte sucks at this.

So, I just got an Aero 15 and I'm trying to install Windows 7, problem is, after the installation finishes, the keyboard doesn't work, haven't installed any drivers yet, it's this regular behavior and I just have to install some drivers ? The BIOS is on the Default Windows 7 Settings, so, that should be fine.

Any experiencie from someone that has already installed Windows 7 would be really appreciated.

@Crash525 I would agree that the hinge is by far the weakest part of the chassis design. I am not at all confident in the hinge and so tend to baby it.

IMO, the rest of the chassis is pretty solid. There is some minor flex around the power button.

I agree with you on all of that.

I just got an Aero 15X. I ordered it from an Amazon reseller mid-December but only unpacked it this week.

    1) I haven't had a chance to check all the shortcuts, as I can't remember which website to use. But the Shift+Ctrl+Down and Up work well, which are the only important ones to me.

    2) The keyboard back lighting has no issues. Right Shift IS dimmer than other buttons, but you can a) mask it with creative usage of Fusion software b) need to have OCD to be bothered by it.

    3) Keyboard does double-type. (EDIT: A Fix here: *** OFFICIAL GIGABYTE AERO 15 OWNERS LOUNGE ***) A random assumption is that 1 in 1000 key presses would double-tap. If I type really fast, then I sometimes manage to squeeze another letter between the double types, which means that there is a delay between you pressing the key and second stroke registering. Maybe it's possible to install some macro that would prevent that. I type a lot and use Excel, but this is a minor nuisance, for coders this could be a serious offense.

    4) Battery is solid so far. I haven't measured it closely, but I'd say I've squeezed around 6-8 hours with Excel use, web browsing, constantly voice chatting on Skype and Telegram while downloading and installing games on Steam. And that's without really trying to save on battery - haven't Underrvolted, use keyboard back light, 50% brightness. While just browsing it shows 10+ hours estimates.

    5) Smart Manager hasn't bugged out on me yet ver 7.0.5. Also I don't see why people dislike the UI - it looks like a DVD Player UI from 2000.... Nostalgia.

    6) Performance-wise I've installed Forza Horizon and it runs almost constant 60 FPS on Ultra.

    7) Only briefly checked for Backlight bleed, but I think I'm fine - don't really know what issues to look for. Plus I will play and watch movies off a big screen anyway.

    8) Speaking of - haven''t tested with HDMI connection to a TV. As far as I understand I need to restart the laptop every time I connect a new TV to it. But needs testing.

    9) I'm coming off a 5+ years old Clevo, so the built-in Elan drivers seemed amazing to me. I still installed the Lenovo ones mentioned here anyway and I enjoy them a lot - feels like using a Mac. Only issue that in Excel 2007 you can''t scroll horizontally with two-finger touch. (haven't tested the other Excels).

I'm just going to answer myself here, you need the USB 3.0 driver for the keyboard to work.

I thought i was just double tapping keys. It happens to me more often, id say around 1 amd 150 key presses.

So, I've tested my 15W-BK4 for HDMI/DP/TB3 external displays usage.
    Results are the following:
    1. It runs like charm on both ports but it REQUIRES HDMI 1.4+ and DP 1.2+ high quality cables to run.
    2. No need for restart each time when connecting a TV is found - it attaches my LG 42LB580V smart TV and monitors at the office perfectly at the same moment when the cable is attached.
    3. External displays work OK on Windows 10 Pro and Kubuntu Linux 17.04LTS both (propriatory NVidia drivers and Bumblebee for Optimus required).
    4. Several displays work through TB3 port with DisplayLink equipped device only (like Dell WD-15 USB3.1 dock). I've even decided to keep the dock :)
    5. Dell WD-15 requires DisplayLink drivers (there are drivers for Ubuntu Linux as well).
    6. Cannot reach USB 3.1 PD laptop charging by WD-15 dock as for now. WD-15 restricts non-Dell systems PD power to 60W only, so maybe it's the issue, but can be just PD absent on Aero 15 TB3 port which is sucks either if true. Has asked Gigabyte support a question on it.
