Nope just a crucial one that I believe is standard. Really strange they don't have the same ram in different versions, luckily I can find mine online if I want to add an extra one. And where did you find it for so cheap? The cheapest I could find was $1,799 but I went with XOTIC because they were the only ones that had a no frills return policy if open and used whereas newegg and b&h can hit you with restocking fees (actually b&h will rarely allow a return) for open box computers - for me that peace of mind was worth the 100 because I wasn't sure if I would like it.

Amazon.com (both sold by and fulfilled by amazon). The green one was $100 cheaper than the other colors, so I bought it instead of the black one I originally wanted.

Edit: I just checked the listing, all colors are back up to $1799 now.

Anyone had troubles with your fans? Pretty sure a bearing is going out on my right-side fan. I need to replace it ASAP.\\

    Anyone have a part number?

I've been noticing a slight clicking noise from my right side fan at higher RPMs lately.

    Is that what you experienced?

It was at lower RPMs, but I work/game pretty regularly, so my fans are fast and slow all day long. I first recognized it when it was on min, but now I hear it no matter the fan speed.

I called, they have to RMA it. PITA since this is my work machine.

Anything else I should have them fix when I send it in? lol

I already have them fixing my keyboard backlighting turning on/off when I put pressure on certain areas of the laptop. Also, the rep said they can fix the combination keystrokes like (Ctrl+Shift+Down), supposedly they had the keyboard programmed for Macros or something?

But was it a clicking sound?

I game and work on this machine frequently, too, and during the day will switch fan profiles from quiet to gaming perhaps 5 times. When I game, however, it's usually for at least an hour so the fan spins at the high RPM for some time.

With that said, I've noticed that when I leave a game, and the fan is spinning down a bit and there's no game sound anymore, I'll hear a slight clicking.

I also can hear a weird single 'click' whenever I switch my profile from quiet to gaming and the fans start up. That wasn't there originally so it's starting to worry me.

I hope I don't have to go through an RMA because I got this notebook second hand, and the original buyer wasn't comfortable giving his original receipt. I live in SE Asia where proof of purchase requirements is a common way they can get out of RMAs, despite RMAs being serial number based.

i always hated Aero 15 since the day this pile of trash arrive at my home. even so i al least expected to be able to use this junk for at least one year --- but i was wrong. after less than 3 moths of use the fans are now doing such and insane noise that i was forced to stop using the laptop for any function that requires me to use the fan even in the lowest speed (because the noise is not caused by speed, but clearly because of the cheap components that gigabyte uses).

i wasn't already using the stupid screen of this laptop because of those problems that everybody knows, and now i can't even use the laptop at all. i used all my laptops for more than 5 years, all of them. my last asus i used for more than 7 years, it's still running perfectly, and this thing didn't even last for 3 months. gigabyte is clearly the worst laptop brand i ever tested. Aero 15 is unspeakably bad almost at all points. amazing :\

those who are thinking on buy it avoid at all costs, and if you have one... be prepared because the fans will start doing crazy noises very soon.

that's how it started with my Aero 15. after a few weeks it will start doing such an insane and annoying click sound permanently that you will never be able to use the laptop again.

i'm thinking in put it into a box (closed) and if i can isolate the noise i'll continue using this junk as a laptop. i wasn't using the horrible screen anyway. i can't wait to find a way to buy a normal laptop and never use this thing again. what a fraud!

Thank you for sharing this! :)

I just received my aero 15x today and everything seems perfect aside from this slight coil whine coming from the bottom left corner.

Good thing I don't care at all for the keyboard lighting gimmick so tomorrow I'll try turning it off and seeing if that helps.

I don't think it's worth returning this machine for something so small especially given the screen/keyboard/chassis/fans/trackpad all seem in great shape on initial inspection, and I'd rather not push my luck by receiving something with a bent chassis or dead pixels or whatever. Especially as coil whine is pretty common nowadays and it really is pot luck as to whether you get it or not.

Hi guys, just got my Aero 15 X and it's working like a charm for now.

I tried to overclock the refresh rate of the monitor to 65hz with CRU and it wasn't stable at all! I'm back to 60Hz.

I'm wondering what's wrong with that display. I mean 65hz isn't a big change at all

Did any of you successfully overclockthe refresh rate of the monitor?

i just opened my Aero 15 to try to find out if there was dust or something causing the weird noise on the fans, but it was all cleaned. looks like it is definitively cause by the bad quality of components that gigabyte uses. at this moment the problem is in the right fan, but i believe that the left one will start making the same noise soon.

is there any way to replace the fans on this hideous laptop? it doesn't look easy :\

Anyone play PES 2017? How to make PES 2017 setting to detect Nvidia to play game? I have set it to run with Nvidia High Performance graphic via Nvidia 3d setting, but still only Intel HD graphic detected by PES setting.

And when I connected to screen (LG tv) via hdmi, the game lagging with different color from laptop screen. Anyone know how to solve it?
    Big thanks.

Ok well it seems the RGB backlighting is not the issue - even with turning it off I still get slight coil whine.

Has anyone else had coil whine problems on this laptop and managed to reduce it somehow?

Fortunately in normal use with my head a few feet away from the laptop it's barely noticeable, so I'm not going to go through the hassle of returning and risk getting something worse, although it would be great if I could get rid of it completely.

Make sure to add both the settings.exe as well as the pes2017.exe to the Nvidia 3d settings page. In the Nvidia control panel at the top select Desktop and then "Display GPU Activity Icon in the Notification Area". Start PES2017, alt+tab and check in the tray if the Nvidia GPU is running the game.

I did a clean install of W10 and kept the color folder. On the new installation I was unable to remove the new color folder so I renamed it and copied the old to the location. How do I delete the new folder? I tried CMD with admin privileges but it doesn't work.

I must be going insane. I just completed a fresh install of windows 10 on my new Aero 15X, ran windows update several times and am now ready to install Gigabyte’s Smartupdate software to get the rest of the software I need. However I have looked all over Gigabytes website and cannot find anything!! All I can find is this page, but there are no actual download links. Hence my thinking that I’m going crazy: gigabyte.com/WebPage/135/optimize.html. Can someone please link me to the proper place to download? I also found some shady-looking third party sites with something claiming to be the the SmartManager but no way am I touching that. Thank you!!

I am going through the same process right now and lost you at this part....I do like the feel of the driver as well, just could use some help in getting over this final hurdle. Can you please elaborate on this? When you say you "had to set "CheckHWID=0" in "Setup.ini"....not sure where to find these items. Thanks!

Hey guys, I recently bought a Aero 15 and have an issue with the GPU (I guess?) and I get weird stripes and black lines on my screen. Especially under heavier load.

    shows this pretty well

I have already re-installed all GPU drivers, changed anti-virus, checked all peripherals and restored from my backup.
Does anyone else have this problem?

did a Gigabyte tech rep say this or is it written somewhere? And have you actually tried to RMA the laptop? If yes, then at which point they brought this up?

I spoke with a rep and he said that installing an SSD or Ram does not void warranty.

I also asked if the repaste by Gen-Tech voided warranty, and he's said it does not because they are a certified dealer.

This is artifacting caused by something wrong with the GPU. IIRC, this kind of artifacting is usually indicative of faulty memory.

Check your GPU temperatures quickly to see if you're massively overheating (MSI Afterburner), but yeah, I think you definitely need to RMA this thing.

I know you've had a bad experience with your Aero 15 and are now on something of a crusade to disparage it, but please be specific when you post things like this.

As others have said, Gigabyte have confirmed to multiple people that things like installing an SSD do not void warranty unless you break something in the process.

Can you please explain why your warranty is void? Is it a peculiarity of the RMA service in your particular country? How do you know it is void? Did a Gigabyte rep tell you?

It is better that you be specific and tell all the details so that other people can make informed opinions, which includes the bad experiences and the good. Misinformation or vague information is only harmful to the consumer.

I just bought Aero 15W on Amazon Warehouse deals (Used - Good) a couple weeks ago. I checked the harddrive age and it seems to only been used about 12 hrs, so I suppose it's as good as new.

However I noticed that there are few weakness on Aero 15W, some more annoying than others.

I'm not sure if this only happen on my unit or all. I'm also not sure if it's something that easily fixed in bios/windows/software settings, or if it's something more.

    1. External Monitor issue
When I have it plugged on my LG 27" UD68W 4K external monitor through HDMI and set it up so it only show desktop on 2 (on LG), I noticed that if I restart the laptop, the bios shows on my ext monitor (Gigabyte logo), then it goes blank, and my monitor is not picking up signal, and it continues to be blank even after the Aero 15W enters windows. I have to unplugged and plugged the HDMI cable again to get it back to show on the ext monitor.

    2. Power issue
I set my power profile to Balanced. But when I plugged my power adapter to charge, it switched to High Performance. And when I unplugged, it switched to Power Saver. I don't want this. It drove me nuts cause unplugging the power adapter would switch to Power Saver and brought my processor down to only 0.7GHz and lags everything. I want it to stay at the profile I choose. How?

    3. Battery Life
I saw that it's advertised at 9-10 hrs and it's benchmarked and tested in real life condition to be at 5-6 hrs by many websites. But I think I only got like 3-4 hrs even though I only use lightly (Active: Chrome multiple tabs and Slack, Background (not currently running): Malwarebytes, WeChat, Evernote, Team Viewer, Telegram, etc). I have undervolted my processor to -0.100V for the purpose of thermal. But not sure how to get 5-6 hrs. Any ideas?

    4. Thermal
It seems to run quite warm during day-to-day office activities and very very hot during gaming (and throttles after maybe 15-20 mins) and I had to crank up the fan to max (it doesn't throttle when fan was maxed even after 1.5 hrs gaming), even then it's still very hot. I have undervolted the i7 as I mentioned above, but maybe it's not enough?

Any ideas of all those above are normal for this laptop? Or some can be fixed with software/windows settings?

    Any help is appreciated. Thanks.

    2. Go to Gigabyte Smart Manager and change battery from auto (high performance on a/c and power savings on battery) to your preferred mode (balanced). I personally prefer the auto settings, however.

    3. Do you know what your laptop discharge rate is? Mine is about -8.1 - 9.5W on power saver with brightness at 20% and using chrome (anywhere between 9-11 hours just web browsing). Check all background processes and services and try disabling the ones you don't need. There are some good extensions on chrome that suspend unopened tabs after a while to save ram and battery. Same thing with general Microsoft/Windows 10 Services

    4. Do you have specifics on temps? I get about low to mid 30s on general web browsing, and mid 70s when gaming (with fans no where near maxed). Maxed fans I get about mid 60s. Maybe its a pasting problem?

    @conankun

If you have any temperature monitoring software running in the background on battery, close it.

I found that temperature monitoring pegged my CPU to a constant 5~7% use which drained battery at around 23kmW/h and when I disabled it it went down to 8k~10k depending on use.

Edit: Here are some old notes on the bug. User @HussainQ also experienced it:

More discussion of it is on this page and the one before it: http://forum.notebookreview.com/thr...5-owners-lounge.804575/page-119#post-10600874

Thanks heaps. That helps a lot. I do prefer auto but only if it goes high perf plugged and balanced unplugged, not power saver (cause 0.7 GHz is rubbish, very very laggy). Can Auto mode do that?

How/which software you use to find out the discharge rate? Is there a software that calculate it automatically for you, or do you calculate manually from CPUID HWMonitor Battery values?

I think my general web browsing temp is 45 C. I have to check again tomorrow to confirm. Not sure how you get 30s C. That's awesome.

How much do you undervolted? Do you use factory settings? I'm not comfortable of opening up the processor to do repasting myself, looks very risky to me. Do you do repasting to get that temp? or everything under factory settings? And one more thing, how cold is your room/where you use the laptop?

No I don't have CPUID HWMonitor (or other similar software) runs all the time.

General day to day would only be Chrome, Slack, Excel. I do have 18-25 tabs open in Chrome. Maybe that's why the battery depleted faster. Not sure how to check specifically which software drains my battery and by how much. Does Windows have any software like GSam / Battery statistic like Android does so that I can know how much % battery each software/process/service uses? Task Manager only shows CPU, RAM usage, not battery usage.

Background task idling/running would be Malwarebytes, Windows Defender, Telegram, WeChat, Logitech Gaming Software (for my mouse), Logitech SetPoint, TeamViewer, Evernote, Creative Cloud, OneDrive, Quickbooks Web Connector. None of them I aware are running actively.

What’s the name of the software that controls the RGB lighting? Does anyone have a link on where to download it? Did a quick look on gigabytes website but only found the aero recovery software.

@conankun I use battery bar to see discharge rate. Give it a go and experiment to see what lowers or increases your discharge rate.

Lower battery life is usually a result of CPU overhead as opposed to anything physically wrong with the laptop.

Check to see which of your programs are using CPU cycles unnecessarily - can be done in task manager. I usually go to the details tab and then sort by CPU usage.

See if anything is pegging your CPU at a certain load.

Hi! Currently considering purchasing the Aero 15 this week off of amazon since I want to play mid resourceful games and also video edit very easily. This or the XPS 15 (late 2017). I'm however stuck between those two or just waiting until a better release laptop that suits my interests. Is the current Aero 15 still holding up nicely? What would you people recommend?

    Thanks.

You can change the battery profile through smart manager. click power mode, click auto at the bottom, and it will let you choose the modes under AC and DC, so you could put it at auto under DC.

Im undervolting -135mv usng ThrottleStop, with battery monitoring on (it shows the discharge rate and temps). I'm using Liquid Metal TIM from gentech (grizzly conductonaut) and haven't opened the laptop since I received it. Ambient room temperature right now is 65F, ill post the current discharge rate and temps at the time of writing this

    currently:
3 tabs open in chrome, power saver mode with brightness at 20%, factory restored with a bunch of bloatware removed, undervolted -135mv, ambient room temperature at 65F

Unfortunately Gigabyte never publish BIOS changelogs so no idea... I didn't notice any change so far.

I am attempting to do this now but having no luck with the options in BIOS. Have you found a place to enable the function keys this way? Thanks
