Laptop overall looks good spec wise. Glad to see a machine have Thunderbolt (video mentions it, we'll see if actually does), which is good for future proofing and possible eGPU usage.

 

Are these touchscreen lappies?

 

That's a stupid comparison, the CLEVO will crush it in gaming, hell you can get a CLEVO with a GTX 780M the top mobile GPU made today that will destroy it when it comes to gaming. Sure the Gigabyte is much thinner but the CLEVO is 2-3 times as powerful. It's like comparing a light weight boxer to a heavy weight, sure they both can box but the heavy weight will win every time.Saying that I think the Gigabyte is very nice butthe comparison was pointless.

 

This is nice, I will take this over the MSI GE-60 now. Hmm I got it down to 3 laptops, the 14" Razer Blade, the 13" Clevo and this one. Anyone know when it will be available for purchase? Any price information yet?

I believe in GIGABYTE!

They are a fresh notebook company - yet they are the only company headed in the right direction! (OK credit to lenovo too)
This notebook weighs 4lbs, has fullHD IPS, up to 4 SSDs which could also be ~3TB of storage extra with HDD, thunderbolt, subwoofer, a non-intrusive ODD hotswap bay... list goes on. It does all this whilst not compromising on speed and portability. They just need to work on battery life - it seems to be the weakness of their notebooks.

Also, I lol'd at the hotswappable ODD bay... it caught me off guard.

Pair this with a 90W Slim Targus Charger and you have a package that absolutely tromps the razer blade in every category.
(Yeah they sure held that 'only gaming subnotebook ever' title long, didn't they.)

 

No info on pricing or release as of yet.

Also interested in the 14" Blade, Samsung ativbook 8 and this one. but haven't heard of the 13" Clevo, I couldn't find much through google,

the reviewer said the units has a weak keyboard. Probably due to the optical drive underneath.

But all in all it is really encouraging to see the slim gaming laptop trend happening. Maybe alienware has something in the works as well.

 

They mentioned August in that article and later for the USA if ever. So yeah if you are in the states and holding your breath for this machine it's best to exhale..

 

Very nice laptop, much nicer than the GE60 imo, I wish others would adopt the swappable ODD, I use mine so rarely these days I would much rather have the extra HDD, but it's still nice having the ODD when you need it .
I wonder if this will be making it's way over to Europe?

 

Well, a "decent" GPU on a fairly luggable laptop with decent onboard storage is still a nice niche to sit in.
Add the thunderbolt port and you bring all sorts of loveliness.

I'm personally eying this as the first entry on my "to get" list for later in the year:

Something that WILL game on the road, when needed but can also have a good CPU and some top end memory thrown at it. Take it home, plug in the eGPU and raid storage via thunderbolt and you have... 80% (?) of a fairly high end desktop.

 

Seriously there has to be something up with this lappy it just seems too good to be true otherwise. It has a good GPU, a nice screen, tons of storage options, and an aluminum body. I wonder if it has problems with GPU throttling or something, or if the keyboard really sucks because of the optical drive like some of the people at Computex were saying. I am really interested to see how this thing shapes up.

 

Have they ever been availbable in teh USA or just Europe?

 

I read on gigabyte notebook's facebook page that since they are using a li-polymer battery instead of li-ion, li-polymer may degrade faster over time than li-ion. The reasoning for them choosing the li-polymer over using li-ion battery is to accommodate the slim design of the notebook. Thus, gigabyte slim and light gaming notebook = bad battery. Not sure how accessible the battery pack is going to be if we have to replace it but based on what they showed at computex it seems that we might only get access to the hard drive and ram slots. Also, not sure how much throttling there would be but apparently the 765m in the p35k won't be under clocked. Seems the notebook won't be sold in the US till late August or beginning of September.

These seem too "perfect" to ever be real? Think light, haswell based, IPS, touch, and a decent to good graphics card. Really? Why would anyone think of that!

 

My only concern is the battery. I just hope I can use it at least for 5-6 hours just for light stuff, like typing, taking notes, etc. And maybe 3-4 hours for programming, watching movies, etc. I rarely game when my laptop not connected to a decent power source. But it does't have touch screen though, its just a normal IPS LCD, which is good.

 

The u2442 had about the same hype but was also almost impossible to get your hands on one.
Just hope this time they learned their lesson and will be more available via the regular stores.

 

Is it hard to get a Gigabyte laptop in a local store? Forgive me for not knowing because I never own a gigabyte laptop before.
Also what about upgrading? What sort of upgrade I can apply to Gigabyte's notebook that will not void its guarantee?
What about the quality of its predecessor? Is it good? Cause as far as I know Gigabyte is quiet new in notebook market.

Unfortunately for a lot of the countries like Europe, Australia, China, and US won't get it till sometime between late August to early September. So not good timing for students who wants it before school starts.

So I have bad news for those who wanted to buy the new gigabyte laptop models through xoticpc. I emailed them to see if they were going to carry the new gigagbyte ultrablades but they said they have no indication that they will be selling them. =(....Maybe its too soon for them to decide to carry the new models without knowing more? Or you guys think something happened like the gigabyte laptops weren't selling well or there were too many complaints regarding the gigagbyte laptops because Xoticpc sold gigabyyte laptops before.

I'm guessing around $2,000 like the others in this category (new RazerBlade, Asus UX51VZ, macBook pro Retina, etc.) . I'm definately keeping an eye on this as well as the new MSI GS70, it looks like the same type of "gaming spec" but still an ultrabook. Also hoping for a haswell update to the UX51VZ

I can pay $2000 for gigabyte as long as I'm paying for the highest possible configuration for this notebook. 2x 256GB mSATA (512GB would be great but its very rare), 2x 1TB HDD, 16GB Memory, and a Bluray Reader/Writer,

Also according to this website its using an i7-4950HQ, although Gigabyte's website says otherwise.

LOL I misunderstood. I saw on Gigabyte's FB page that they anticipate Aug/September for USA. Did you talk to your friend the shop owner at the Gigabyte store to see when he is getting his?

 

The gigabyte rep on another forum told me the P35k is due to the UK at the end of Aug

 

So I paid a visit to an authorized dealer who will stock the P35K. I am supposedly the first in line for a black unit - if all goes well.

Nothing about the price is finalized, but they put the asking price at 45000NTD = $1504.93USD. (256gb SSD / Combo 750gb)
I will keep an eye on prices online until then to watch for any funny business, but IMO the people at this store generally don't pi$$ around and won't try to scam a person who knows more about the P35K than their own sales reps...

HDD-less configs may be available like for the U2442, however possibly at a later date. Dual HDD configs might exist too... meh.

Sales guy phoned up GIGA people and found that the estimated release date in Taiwan is 'Mid-August'.
Note that these estimated dates are usually placed later than the actual release date to ensure they meet the expectations of the customers.
i.e. it is possible and 75% likely for the P35K to be ready before August 15th in Taiwan.

 

Does this dealer sell to the US? I am in need of a laptop before college starts so I want to know if I can get my hands on this laptop before August 22nd.
