Gigabyte is on my list I wanted to get the Samsung Chronos 7 but they havent got a release date on that yet. The only things i wished Gigabyte would do is add a touchscreen and bigger battery. Other than that great card and hashwell. Hopefully someone would start selling them here in the US

It is possible that the version of P35K priced at $1500 is coming with a AHVA panel like the P34G.

Certain things may have been lost in translation because my mandarin is $hit and/or sales rep is not too versed in hardware.
People from the factory told the sales person that it won't be IPS, but instead something that sounds like Advanced Hyper Viewing Angle from AUOptronics.

I was told that the contrast of AHVA panel is superior to IPS, and as doubtful of that as I am, fact remains that there are pretty bad IPS panels out there...
Note that the M14x's display linked from the other P34G thread spans a lot of sRGB, and is rumored to be AHVA
-
Yeah, latests reviews don't favor the P34G's presumed AHVA panel.
Have you noticed that gigabyte lists an IPS display on their website? While for the P34G they specify it is AHVA...
-

Fuuu... closing in on the final stretch... I saw a huge P35K ad posted up on the wall at the City Hall MRT Train station.
Hope I can atleast see this laptop's screen before I leave so I can quickly decide to buy or not.

Also, please would you link to some of those 'latest reviews'? TY

AUO AHVA: Test Schenker S413 Notebook (Clevo W740SU) - Notebookcheck.com Tests

It's in the new Clevo W740 model at least.

Below average in every aspect; Brightness, contras and black levels.

This is more like what I'd like to see from laptop screens:

 Test Asus N550JV-CN201H Notebook - Notebookcheck.com Tests

IPS panel with whopping 1410:1 contrast ratio and low black value. Brigthness for this LG IPS panel is still not the best I've seen though, but under normal use you won't need it - I'd take the good contrast and black level any day!
-

So I got an update for anyone who is still planning to wait for the P35k. Looks like we're looking at late or end of September release for the P35K because of the design change. Also for those who are looking for where to buy it, Xotipc said they're looking into it.
-

Anyone else think it is worth waiting for? Especially for a student like myself I might just have to pick something else before school starts.
-
In addition to the ones already posted, there is also this one.

You think they use the same panel for the 15''? There are many options...

Where did you get that info from?
-

1410:1 is very respectable! - Expected no less from N56VJ's successor with Asus' Zen series in mind.

So the question remains, does the P35K use the AHVA panel that hit 944:1 on the alienware, or does it use the 444:1 variety in the Clevo?

Also, am I to understand that 944:1 actually outperforms the 900ish:1 that is measured from the rMBP 15's IPS?
If so, that would be entirely a step up from the U2442.

If I am speaking wishfully, then this would also confirm that loony factory guy's words, "superior to IPS".
-

What's the problem? In the gigabyte website, they said:
Display: 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 IPS LCD
 15.6" Full HD 1920x1080 LCD
 GIGABYTE - Notebook & Netbook - Notebook & Netbook - P series - P35K

You can choose the IPS one,if the second option concern an AHVA screen no?

It's the P34G which have a AHVA screen, it's write on gigabyte website: http://www.gigabyte.com/products/product-page.aspx?pid=4636#sp
-

On Gigabyte NB's facebook page they replied to someone's question regarding a possible change in release date and they said that late September because of the design change they did for the p35k. On xoticpc's facebook page they said that they are talking to various OEMs including gigabyte and should have an update soon to whether they are going to carry gigabyte's new laptops.
-

Did you guys see the new screens? IT'S IN BLACK NOW! This is fricken awesome. However I don't see any mention of a backlit keyboard. Does it have one?
-

Yeah, that's why they delayed the release date from august to late september.
-

Yes, it has a backlit keyboard. Scroll down near the bottom of the " Key Features" page.

 Black looks nice.
-

Anyone have any idea if this will be available in Canada? There are only a few resellers of Gigabyte in Canada and they don't carry all the new products.

Also, are there any very close alternatives to this beast of an "ultrabook"?
-

 Great spread sheet. Thank you

Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
-

 Wow, nice sheet there. Thanks!
-

Grr, I just wish this had a touchscreen. It's the one feature I feel is missing. I realize it's not mandatory with Windows 8, and probably wouldn't use it all the time, but still, I've been searching for a new notebook for a long time, and this one looks great except for that one problem.

EDIT: just looked at the above spreadsheet, and noticed it says the P35K does have a touchscreen. Is this accurate, or an error?
-

I agree. I almost feel like having the touchscreen would "future-proof" the notebook... Otherwise, it blows the competition out of the water. I haven't seen another notebook/ultrabook with similar specs for a similar (estimate of $1400-$1700) price.
-

Found another video, look around the 2:25 mark

 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iJBV89dJ_H8

Gigabyte was showing it off during PAX Aus.
-
He said end of september for australia.
As tempting as it is I'm not going to wait any longer, Uni is starting and I haven't decided what laptop to buy.
I think I'll just get a Razer Blade, its already up for order in Singapore. I'm just tired of waiting.
-

I think I will wait for the Gigabyte P35K as it is well worth waiting for it unless Apple have a range of better specification laptops which does not make a big hole in people's pocket. LoL
-

From what I found they said the rMBP 15" will have the iris 5200 and no dedicated GPU
-

Anyone know how this is different from the Gigabyte P25K, aside from the obvious drives and ports and weight?
-

I am from Canada and I am waiting for this laptop too. That said, I don't think you'll see any of the Gigabyte resellers here in Canada selling this laptop; none of them have or do currently sell any of their laptops. Only motherboards and the like. I think we'll have to resort to ordering it in from the US when it becomes available there.
-

Ouch!!! No dedicated GPU on the upcoming rMBP 15? That is sad. I guess it is Gigabyte P35k for me then. After all, users can easily swap the HDD on the P35k but it will be very difficult for someone to do so on the rMBP 15 as it is most probably running on its proprietary mSATA interface.

 Patience...
-

The only good reason to get the rMBP with haswell is the crazy battery life it will have as the mba has up to 12. And of course the unbeatable trackpad
-
Also the reason why its called 'Retina'
-

I am just curious as to the fan noise of the Gigabyte P35K. This is because one of the reasons many people buy the rMBP is because the machine is very quiet.
-

I think Gigabyte really puts everyone off with their vague release dates. The MSI GS70 might be a good alternative to Razer and Gigabyte, and has a US release date of 8/20.
-
True, If Gigabyte release their new flagship products sooner they will end up with more profit as people probably will choose this laptop over Blade because its cheaper and offers various upgrade options.

GS70 is nice but 17 inch laptop is just too big to carry around. And I'm sure one of the reason you chose P35K is mobility.

Anyway I already decided to buy Blade 14 as I can just slip it into my bag like a normal book.
-

Update: Review units are being shipped out and we can expect reviews for the P35K in 2 to 4 weeks. Also, for those who are planning to buy the P35k from Xoticpc can expect for it to be available on their site on day of release in the US (Late September)..."probably".

I agree that Gigabyte is missing out in this important time when students are going back to school. Now they are going to end up releasing in the same time frame as other manufacturers who are planning to release their updated Haswell refresh or new lines of laptops. This is going to be especially true for ultrabooks that were waiting for the Windows 8.1 official full release. The delayed release date is also causing for those who were planning to buy the P35k to look for alternative. I think that they should of released the P35K with the original design and release the black version afterwards, so that the release date didn't have to be pushed back.
-

I've been looking for alternatives, but nothing quite matches up with the P35k
-

I believe the Gigabyte P25K has options for a more powerful GPU, but comes at the cost of increased weight and thickness for that machine.
-
Just wondering, whats the verdict on the battery? I need some decent life for University. Its between this and the Razer Blade 14.
-
This one has 75Wh battery but it runs a 1080p screen. Razer has a 70-72Wh but it runs 900p screen. Probably Razer win battery-wise. Razer could last 6-7 hours, the P35K probably last 4-5 hours.
-
I seriously doubt that res can affect power consumption. Size does, for sure. But I'm betting it will be over 5 hours.
-
Yes it is, It would not be significant if you only test it at web browsing but when gaming definitely 900p will last longer.

Its probably last 5 hours, anyway we can't be certain as the product itself hasn't launched yet.

Looks like this thing is supposed to hit Germany at the beginning of October. This site has also already listed it and while the price might be justified if the cooling system actually works well, it still is a bit too high for me to consider it.
-

You're right. The price is too steep

So I checked out the German site and it seems that the base configuration is about $1840 USD and that comes with only a 750 gb HDD, 8 GB of ram, and non-ips FHD display. The model number for that german version is GA-P35K-8G-750G.

I also found a Korean site that has the P35K for about $1881 but it has a 128 GB msata SSD, a 1 TB 5400 rpm HDD, blue ray combo drive, and a non-ips FHD display. Hopefully the US model has an IPS display for $2000 or less with a 256 GB SSD at least. =(

Have to note that both the Korean and German version uses Li-ion batteries rather than Li-polymer, which means that it won't degrade as quickly as Li-polymer batteries but won't last as long on a single charge.

 Thanks for the info David.

I guess I'll have to opt for the P34... more in my budget lol
-

I am little shocked by the price here, I am wondering if anyone had thought about the MSI GS70 Stealth which starts at $1,699.

It uses 4700HQ, 16GB Ram, 2GB 765 GTX, 128GB SSD, 750GB HD. The downside is that it does not have a optical drive, however it is listed as the "thinnest 17 gaming laptop" with only 5.7 pounds.
-

I would have been sold on the MSI GS70 had it been 15 inches. I think at 17 inches, it's a little counter-intuitive for the purposes of portability.

That being said, there aren't many choices for thin and light gaming laptops with GPUs better than GT750m.
-

Aww man. The price is just too steep for me.
-

Got a little more information for Canada/US...

The P35K will not be available in Canada (doubt the 14 inch model will be either).

When I asked if there was any information on US pricing, I received this message:

"Not really. No confirmation really. Its looking like it'll be available Mid-Sept in the US. Once we get further details, we will definitely post on FB. Thank you for asking and showing interest in our P35K."

So it looks like a mid-Sept release in the US with no pricing set in stone... There is hope yet!

$1880 USD? Seems like I'm in deals city here:

 ![[IMG]](images/storyImages/7f9s.png)

 (pre-order slip)
 $40000 + (5000 deposit) = $45000NTD ~= $1500 USD

Moreover from what I was told, I am getting an mSata of 256gb... (no mention of it on the slip, but it's omitted because the slip has no place for it.)

However, I'd say that this huge gap in pricing is uncharacteristic, considering U2442 was $1000~1.1g with SSD just about everywhere it sold.
Nothing is absolutely final about this product it seems... and I ask the ppl often!

 In other news:
AHVA panel will have a solid viewing angle of 178 - supposedly it performs on par with IPS at the extreme angles.
I've asked numerous times for the IPS panel prices and they DON'T exist!
-

@omghi2u, did you pre-order in Taiwan? Can you message where you pre-ordered it, I like to buy one too!!
and the specs includes a mSATA 256GB? and can you confirm if it comes with the thunderbolt port or not?
