Haha no, I don't have any chippingthere was a piece of dirt, hard and dry on it and I thought it's a dot of paint. So when I tried to go over it with my nails it came off and I freaked out thinking it was a paint chip but it was just dirt haha. Here is the pic of the the dot I thought was paint

Edit : sorry if there's confusion, I meant to quote O15 here.
If you don't care about the discrete graphics card, and want all the things you say you want, then it seems like you're barking up the way wrong tree with the p35k. Why not try some of the great ultrabook options instead? They fit your requirements just about perfectly. Some good choices:
Acer aspire s7-392
Samsung ativ book 9 plus
Asus ux302la
Dell xps
All have good Haswell cpu, great screens, great battery life, ssd, better build quality than p35k, and can be had for about the same price.
There are many more than what I've listed. But if you're not looking for a gaming laptop, as you say, seems like you have a lot of options.

Hello! does the laptop feel very weak with a normal daily use? I am doubting between the P34k or the P35k, i still like much more the ips panel and it seems disipate the heat better than p34k but in other hand P34k seems more solid, any advice?

See post #1356 above, misquoted someone else.

The dedicated card is still important for me, I just didn't mention it. Other issue is screen size as I want 15" for Dev work whereas most ultra books are smaller. Cheers for the suggestions below.

The tracking information says it's expected to arrive on Thursday. I'm in Vermont so I'm sure it's going to take an odd route to reach me. It probably won't arrive earlier because it requires a signature and UPS tends to be annoying about that.

Im still deciding between this and the Dell m3800/xps 15....the bending issue has pushed me more towards the Dell...
Hopefully Gentech can put some videos of the strength of the middle weak point on a hard flat surface. -

For those of you who will be installing Windows 7 as I have, here is a great resource for all your windows 7 drivers

Hopefully Gigabyte isn't holding Gentech's family members hostage or anything. ;p
I can't see why Gentech would not be happy to post a strength test video.
Or maybe we can hope to see some direct competitors of the P35K. -

I have the p35k cf2. I got it nov 14 from Gentech. I also received a bent version almost a month ago from another vendor. The one I currently have is in good shape. I would say go ahead and order one for yourself and treat it like you should anything that costs this much, WITH CARE. I don't imagine it would bend under any stress that I would be applying to it.

Or go to the gigabyte website and it should have everything there -_- -
I'm having a hard time convincing myself not to buy the 14" Blade.
At $2,700 AUD, I know the price is absurd, but it's easily the best looking in it's class and that battery life very nice.
I wouldn't have thought I'd ever consider such an expensive laptop, that's almost what I spent on my desktop. -

Ok windows 7 on this isn't gonna be good cause you can't control most of your laptop, like fans and keyboard and so on, even the gigabyte board is different on windows 7 so no windows 7 for me.
Now who can help me install the recovery on the msata it keeps going to the normal harddrive :/ helppzzzzz!! -
I left awhile ago in search of more sturdier replacements as well. I just found this if you're interested :
Acer Aspire V7-482PG-9884 - Notebookcheck.net External Reviews
i7 4500U, 750M, 53wh batt, msata+hdd, backlit keyboard, touchscreen, supposedly good speakers. Close to a P34G with a touchscreen and bigger battery, which is what I was looking for. -
Paper Planes Channel Notebook Enthusiast
It works perfectly for me. Windows 8 is a nightmare I hate it. -
Paper Planes Channel Notebook Enthusiast
I considered this laptop for a long time and was one I really wanted.. but it's just nowhere near worth the price and it's not upgrade-able. That is the biggest down side to the laptop. If it fits your needs and will last you 3 years and you just have to have that look, go for it. -
So, is the P35K-CF2 the reviewed version? The one where the bending has been corrected?
Can someone clarify this? -
There is no change to any of the versions. They only changed the packaging. Apparently the first batch got dropped in such a way that caused a lot of damage. CF1 and CF2 refer to configuration differences only, they never changed the laptop itself.
-
No machines are structurely different. Only the packaging

ok may i ask how is the gigabyte smart manager working ? do you have fan control, keyboard, gpu boost ? -
How "hard" is to bend it then? Isn't it supposed to be in a box where it travels safe?
Is it possible to bend it with a normal-careful use? I wouldn't want to get it into my backpack and discover it got bent by just transporting it. -
I don't have mine yet, but from what I hear the shipping was pretty rough on the first batch. From other user reports so far the laptop is solid enough if you take good care of it. The bending and flexing was only a problem after the laptop was already compromised. Only time will tell if being gentle with it will be enough to keep it from developing the same problem that occurred when the first batch was shipped.

I'm not sure how to compare it to the way it was working with Windows 8 as I wasn't using it then. However I have the Gigabyte smart manager for windows 7 64bit and all the functions seem to work as intended. Does the smart manager control GPU boost and fans? Also how does the smart manager work with the keyboard or was that intended to be a separate question? -
Paper Planes Channel Notebook Enthusiast
I don't think anyone is going to willing find the answer to this question. As consumers we wouldn't want to put our own laptop through such stress tests. So unless a manufacturer or vendor decides to do such a thing that answer will be speculative until the laptop owners start reporting back after some realistic usage. I have had mine for only a couple days, however I haven't had the need to transport it around yet. -
I have yet another question about battery life of the P35K; now that a few real owners are using this laptop on a daily basis, could you please tell us what typical battery life you get when not heavily gaming on it? How long can you use this pc when just browsing the internet or doing some office stuff?
Thanks! -
just a question, what's the point of updating driver? b/c when i did it, i did not have a good experience. e.g. like on my acer, i updated the graphic card driver, now i can't full screen my game compared to when i could before i updated the driver. also, when i updated the driver for my LAN and wireless, it slowed down my internet, e.g. comparing to the same webpages i go to, i feel that it is slower than before.
so yea what's the point?
thanks -
how much noise is the p35k emitting when not gaming (web browsing or office work)? Does it sometimes get completely silent? and when not silent is it quite loud?
cheers -

Windows 8.1 is amazing,
I would get used to it or buy WinStart8.
You cannot control the fans from smartManager.
You only can control the Frequency which the CPU will run on.
The lower the frequency the slower the Fan needs to run, but the slower your performance will be.
The smart Manager button on the laptop just brings that menu up on your screen.
Also it would be nice to have some idle and load temps
WhiteBoy:wink: -
so can anyone help?
-
Can anyone answer this?
-
You should update drivers/apps or anything else because usually that's the main reason for which the updates are made in the first place: to resolve problems..but as nothing is perfect..they might resolve some of the existing problems and generate anothers..that's why updates exist and they are made all the time..trying to resolve the existing problems and optimize things as much as possible.
-
For those who have it, do you like the quality build?
The design feel like premium quality?
Would you recommend this laptop for mobile and business use?
I need a mobile laptop with hight spec (to see movie, work, and sometimes play) in order to substitute partially at my home computer (in trip for exemple) -
Was just wondering if anyone who has a P35K also have rMBP(w/ dGPU)? I'm really stuck on the two, and need one ASAP. I'm a college student, so portability is number one. Also, I sometimes play games (BF4 being the most demanding), but usually its just for like an hour once a week. Can anyone give me some opinions about both? Please don't be bias about Mac Vs Pc, and price isn't a problem.
Thanks. -
Which rMBP are you looking at in particular? You'd have to get the 15" macbook which comes with a 750m. You won't be able to run at retina resolutions but you should be able to squeeze out enough performance to play at at least medium at 1280x800 (most likely high will run fluidly). The MBP is 3 mm thinner than the p35k and you'd probably get better tech support. You'd be losing out on having 2 msata drives and 1 HDD/SDD bay and one ODD bay though. I think the MBP looks much better but it isn't built to be a gaming machine like the p35k is. If you only need portability and will to sacrifice screen resolution for performance when gaming then go with the MBP.

So what's the final verdict for the thunderbolt port? Can the rubber stopper be removed? Is there an actual thunderbolt controller on the motherboard? Is it available on all p35k configs?
I'm getting really sick of these manufacturers being so vague about thunderbolt. First Asus says the g46vw has it, then never releases one with it (and their promo page STILL advertises thunderbolt!)
Then gigabyte goes as far as too put the port on the final product but puts a freaking rubber stopper on it... Like what the heck man?! And why is there no option for it on the p34g?! Ugh
Also what's the deal with the bendy build quality problem? Fixed?
Also, does anyone have battery life numbers? -
The 750m in the MBP is nice for most games, but it'll have a tough time running BF4 even on low settings (or so I've heard--however it is the GDDR5 version so you'll still probably be able to run it). 765m will fare much better, but don't expect maxed out settings with 60 FPS. Someone posted a video of BF4 on the P35k on this thread somewhere. As for the processor, the base Nvidia MBP has a 2.3Ghz quad i7--either the i7-3615QM (Worse than the P35K) or the i7-4850HQ (Which would be better). EDIT: It's the 4850HQ. So technically better. The upgrade is more than a bit better I think. I can't tell and can't find solid info on this. Either way, they'll perform similarly in the processor area. The biggest difference is going to be the around 50% decrease in graphics performance for a 1.5-to-twofold increase in build quality, an SSD, and all the other little things in life to make it better (IMO--also nearly double the price of an already expensive laptop, but you said price doesn't matter). Basically you get what you pay for in terms of design, customer support, and durability.
For the rest of you, pretend that I got the P35K and I love it tons. I'm one of those weird teenagers that respects his parent's wisdom in telling me not to buy a $1.5k laptop.
I'm pretty much looking at the N550JV now. Too bad it doesn't have the GDDR5 750m. (Or does it?)
-
There is no mention of a Thunderbolt port on Gigabyte's product page. Also I thought I remeber someone reporting from Gigabyte stating that Thunderbolt support was dropped.
I feel is really cheapens the device by simply plugging the port and not even bothering to remove the Thunderbolt logo next to the plugged port. Additionally it seems a bit deceptive this flaw is not represented in the product's images/renders on Gigabyte's or retailer's websites. -
No thunderbolt port. They might add it for a refresh at some point but there's no port on the other side of the rubber stopper if you look at pictures of the motherboard.
Bendy problem is probably fixed to a degree in that it doesn't happen during shipping anymore. Whether it will occur during regular use is unknown.
According to people who have had the laptop so far, you're looking at 4 hours minimum if you're doing light computing with wifi on and screen brightness down.
It has 2 gigs of DDR3 ram. I remember buying a 2k laptop, one of the early Dell XPS laptops when I was younger with money I'd saved up from working jobs. In hindsight it probably would have been a better idea to build a desktop and the price was way too steep. Now of course 1.5k will get you a very nice laptop. The 750m is more than a capable chip so you should be fine depending on your gaming habits. Of course you'll probably want to upgrade in 3 years rather than 4 years with the 765m but you're still saving ~$100 a year. -
Anyone know the version of HDMI (1.4/1.4a)? Can it support WQHD (2560x1440) and above?
Please excuse if someone has already confirmed this but I cannot find it anywhere. Thank you. -
Heard its 1.4a not sure on the WQHD but should support it, me thinks.
-
The 14" Razer Blade is a nice laptop but they screwed the pooch by slapping a sub par screen on it. I know first hand cause I I own one. The wash out is severe if you look at it from different angles. If I could replace the screen with something better, I'd do it in a heart beat.
-
Where are you getting your information from? The laptop comes with 2 mSATA slots and if you want to spend the money, you can add a second mSATA card if you're not afraid of voiding the warranty by opening it and installing it yourself. Sadly that's the only upgrade you can perform as memory is soldered to the motherboard and 8GB is the limit you will have to learn to live with.
-
Yea.. I have a desktop already. But I live in a dorm and it's really loud, even with liquid cooling. I'm trying to get somewhat a portable desktop replacement. But I think I might go with the macbook since it has a good resale value which I heard next year's GPU are going to be better.

When you install windows 7 instead of windows 8 you need to get all new drivers. My post was to provide people with a quick way to get all the drivers they need for a windows 7 install on the p35k. -
Paper Planes Channel Notebook Enthusiast
Oh well the built in keyboard lighting controls work fine for me. And I can use other utilities to control gpu and fans. I loathe windows 8 so there is zero chance I will be using it. -

my p35k is relatively silent when browsing or editing documents. -

If I wasn't doing high end video gaming and video editing on this laptop, I would never buy this. There are so many great looking and super light weight laptops out there for just a casual business person. If you are looking at the p35k you should be a gaming person or someone who needs the power of this laptop with its form factor.
