For example:
Yoga 2 Pro (Brilliant and beautiful)
MacBook Air (Brilliant and beautiful)
Acer Aspire R7 (Brilliant, slightly less beautiful IMO and trackpad up above was a weird design choice)
That's just a few examples.

Edit: If this uses the same battery as the Razer Blade, how come the Razer manages 8 hours of battery life whereas this can barely manage 5?
-
Razer blade has a 14" 1600x900 screen so smaller screen and fewer pixels. Also it has a 4702hq which has a TDP of 37 watts while the 4700mq has a TDP of 47 watts. That's about what you'd expect.

If that information is correct I would imagine most of it has to do with the screen. The blade is not an IPS screen. -
Yes, but don't you think that buying the p35k is almost future proofing yourself for the next five or so years? The p35k has got great specs and is almost the same price as the 13 inch macbook pro with 8gb of ram, which doesnt even have a decent graphics card.

You aren't "future proofing" yourself for the next 5 years on any laptop any time soon.
(Perhaps if you buy a macbookpro as they do tend to keep alot of their market value after years.)
I also suggest staying away from Acer, at all cost. [LCD screens etc]
They don't care about quality, they care about sales more than anything so they offer everything for a low quality for a great price. -
Yogo 2 looks amazing and I would have gone with it, had Lenovo not gone full retard with the USB on it.

for 300-500$ you could give a company your p35k housing and they will produce a replica of the case but from a single aluminium so it will be as strong as the macbook pro 15inch

I'm in the middle of a move so while I'm cleaning and fixing up the new place, the old place is getting messier and messier lol. I tried to take a few pictures of unboxing and initial turning it on but all failed miserably XD I'll try again later tonight maybe. Time to go clean! Thanks for the reply
Going to go ahead and reformat and stick pro on it
Everything runs smoothly!

Hmmm Very interesting. Could you post a link or the company name?
How much more weight does this add on?TonyBologna and tedlas like this. -
Hmm...you may have actually said something smart for once
(Only kidding)
Yes, please do post a link. This could be awesome, albeit putting the laptop at $2000. -

Idk about where you guys are from but in canada this is the site, 3D Printers Canada

I've heard that the memory is soldered in place preventing any upgrades. Can anyone confirm this? Also on the cf-1 is the memory configuration 2x4 or 8x1?
-
Some pictures. Sorry for dirty desk. The laptop is very slim. When closed, it's almost as slim as my transformer prime. The brushed aluminum helps hide the fingerprints but it seems to suck up any oils.

That's not even close to the same thing as aluminum milling, which is what you want if you need strength like the macbooks. What gigabyte uses right now is probably aluminum pressing which tends to be more prone to flexing.
-
Hey there,
Does the screen itself seem flimsy at all? -
WhiteBoySHady Notebook Consultant
It's 8x1 and deff not soldered, only the CPU and gpu are -

Honestly the strongest part is the screen.... It's as strong as a macbook screenSourmango likes this. -
I agree. I have a lenovo y550 that has similar but plastic hinges. This one feels more sturdy than that and I've had that for 5+ years now, handle it roughly, transport it everywhere, and the hinges have never broken.

Anybody know if UPS will require a signature on delivery? I won't be home when they arrive
-
Maybe i'm just blind or the pictures are somehow strangely distorted but if i look at your p35k with the lid closed it seems to me that in the middle there is a gap between the lid and the chassis..on the edges can be seen clearly that the lid touch the chassis, and on the middle there is a gap..i really do hope that i see wrongly or the pictures distort the reality..
-
Earlier in this thread people were complaining about some kind of warping in the chassis of this laptop, is this still the case?
If I were to order this laptop, would I have any problems with this? -
If you ordered from Gentech, they do. But if you have MyUPS you can change the setting for that tracking number in your account and set it to shipper release authorized. And then specify a place to put it. I have MyUPS and my default setting is shipper release but I still had to set it manually for this package for some reason.
-
They tried to deliver at the worse time which was right before noon. They typically deliver later in the evening but they decided that it would be better to try and deliver when nobody was going to be there. I'm going to try and track it down tonight but I honestly don't have any hope for being able to get it today.
EDIT: I was able to call UPS and schedule a pickup for later tonight. I won't have to put up a proper review for a couple of weeks but I'll answer any questions once I have it in hand. -
Been following this thread and the P35K for the past two months. Bit the bullet and ordered a stock CF1 from GenTech, which should be here this Monday. I can post my pics or thoughts once it arrives and I have time to mess around with it.
eville and TonyBologna like this. -
Would it be possible to get a CAD model of the plastic bottom part of the chassis?
Then it would be possible to get quotes and set up a group buy to order a custom cnc machined aluminum or magnesium or similar part. -
I hope Gigabyte is reading this. People want this laptop so bad they are considering making a custom chassis that will actually give them the support needed.

Alright guys I have 3 questions to ask, please reply yeah cause I am desperate to choose between this and the Dell XPS 15 9530.
1- Which would you say is better, the XPS 15 or Gigabyte P35K?
2- I am living in Malaysia, and will be going to college in ADELAIDE, Australia starting mid January. I may buy the P35K from GenTech, but, if there is something wrong, how do I send the laptop for repair in Adelaide? I checked the Gigabyte website for service centres but it seems like there is only in Melbourne. I won't have time to send the laptop back to GenTech, nor will I have time to send it to Melbourne for repair. What do I do?
3- As for the XPS 15, I can buy it in Malaysia, that's cool. But is the warranty global? And is there a Dell Service centre in Adelaide? I just cant find it in the website..
If you could answer my questions, I will be very, very grateful
-
Compared to the highest-spec XPS (and configuring the P35K with a 512GiB SSD and 16GiB RAM to make it fair)
+Full Keyboard, better keyboard design (for some reason the arrow keys on the XPS are still cramped even without a numberpad--go figure)
+MUCH better graphics card
*Comparable processor
+Still-sleek form factor
-No touch
-Dell's Warranties (International available but not stock)
-QHD+ Display
-Build Strength (XPS has an aluminum-milled chassis)
P35K: $1823
XPS 15: $2300
With that extra $477 difference, you could get ANOTHER 2 mSATA 240GB cards and throw on an AC WiFi card (which the XPS has btw) as well as the Diamond compound (free).
It basically comes down to whether you want a premium device with the bells and whistles (Carbon fiber composite base, NFC, etc.) or a...well, a beast. Me? I'm gonna go with the beast.
Oh, and I don't know where you'd buy the P35K, but it would depend on where you got it if you'd get an international warranty since they'd have to open up the computer and void the manufacturer warranty to put all that stuff in the P35K. -
Ah alright, then it might not be safe getting the P35K
My country is kinda third world, therefore Gigabyte does not ship here. I would have ordered it when I move to Australia in January, but it's too much of a hassle as I will settling into college and so.
-
If build quality is holding you back, I wouldn't worry about it. As long as you're nice to your laptop (keep it in a padded case, etc.) you're not going to run into many problems with it as far as I can tell. If price isn't much of a problem, then in that price range you're looking at you might as well go with a MacBook unless you just really hate them. They have special warranties for basically every country and I'm pretty sure that extra coverage is still available.
-
Can any of the P35K owners tell me if the laptop is 21mm thick rubber feet INCLUDED or EXCLUDED?
In case they're not included in the 21mm, would anyone be able to measure it really quick?
Thank you very much
-
I don't hate Macs, actually contemplated getting one. Realized I needed Windows more after all though. Currently the Xps 15 is the only one which catches my eye, as every other laptop with a decent graphics card(non intel hd) is either more than 2kg, too thick, too low on battery life. I was also thinking about the Razer Blade, but I heard there are heat issues/screen sucks. What do you think?
-
I was monitoring this thread for months and on Wed I got my CF2, so I'm sharing some experience I feel this two days here
Pro:
+ nicer look than the photos
+ light and slim for a 15.6 inch gaming laptop (about half the thickness of my previous 14 inch laptop)
+ powerful CPU and GPU, perfect for gaming
+ great color and large viewing angle FHD IPS screen
+ fast ssd, takes literally 1 second to recover from sleep and less than 20 sec to boot.
+ handy apps from gigabyte
Con:
- noisy. huge noise if playing games and not really quite even if doing nothing, might be disturbing if in quite place like library
- do feel flexible. the lid or the chassis seems to be bent a little in the middle, they just don't touch when lid close. But the chassis is well supported in the middle it probably won't get bent if you use it normally on table.
- battery life seems to be 4 hours with 30% brightness, Wifi on and power save mode. I was doing some lightweight work but with many background programs running.
- touchpad SUCKS, get a mouse.
- very cheap swappable HDD bay. You don't want to put your HDD in. It fell apart when I put my HDD in and the it doesn't have screws or something to fasten the HDD but just two pieces of soft plastic.
- recovery partition takes 20GB on ssd. might want to erase that.
- little light leak around the screen, not very noticeable unless you open a pure black image, seems to be a common problem for IPS screen though.
On the whole it is a pretty decent machine and I'm happy with it right now.
-
Rough measuring with a ruler.. 22.5 mm with the feet. I don't know how accurate that is b/c the ruler has a lil gap at the end before the numbers/tickets start. So I lined up the line with my table the laptop is sitting on and eyeballed where the top of the laptop was. The top is curved a bit too so it may be tad thinner/thicker.a1900 likes this.
-
I agree with everything he said.
I haven't noticed a light leak with mine though my tablet also has an IPS screen and has a leak too. I went through 3 ips screened tablets and all had a small leak somewhere. The laptop has a distinct vibration/buzzing sound from the fans and the touchpad buttons really really suck. They aren't clicky so they just kind of squish and you have to press pretty hard to click.
Oddly enough I think the bottom isn't bent, but the screen is curved. Mine when closed right about the little lights there's a bend. Almost looks like a defect. Actually may be a defect o_o. When the laptop is opened, there's a large gap between the aluminum and the screen at the same place the bend is.
Edit so I don't make another post: For those who have it, did you wipe all and do a fresh install? I got the window 8 pro upgrade back when it was $15 but I don't know if I'll ever use the extra features. Perhaps bitlocker if they start having us being able to access work stuff from home but rest probably won't use. I'm debating whether there's a need for a wipe or not since there isn't much bloatware. -
Inspirion 15 7000 Series
Inspiron 15 7000 Series Touch Screen Laptop Details | Dell
+Same GFX as XPS, Dual-Core i7 (-Less processing power, +MUCH better battery life)
HP Envy 15 Quad Edition
HP® Official Store — Buy and Customize your ENVY TouchSmart 15t-j100 Quad Edition PC direct from HP
+Great all-around laptop, comparable processor to XPS
- Not as good of a graphics card (Nvidia 740m) but still decent
Toshiba S55
Amazon.com: Toshiba 15.6" i7 4700MQ 1TB 8GB WIN8 Notebooks: Computers & Accessories
+Very similar to the Envy, but cheaper
-No touch
-Less powerful GFX compared to XPS
-Thicker than the Envy, but still relatively thin
These are all around or less than $1k.
You can also just install Windows on an Apple machine and just boot into Windows--A lot of people do that. But you'll still be spending $2k+ for the one with an Nvidia graphics card. -
Thanks for this, the inspiron 15 7000 would be beautiful if not for the 4500U and the 2.6kg weight :/ Also the XPS 15 has 3200x1800(as well as being 2kg in weight) haha.
As for the mac, I don't think it's worth the price. It's bloody expensive! -

get a macbook and install windows on it, its pretty good for its build and gt750m graphics -
Anyone know a slim blu-ray drive that will work with the P35K, I tried a Panasonic UJ141 blu-ray drive and the face plate doesn't line up properly with the Panasonic's slots for the plastic tabs that hold the faceplate onto the front of the drive.

Still waiting on my p35k to be delivevered on Monday, but saw a pretty decent alternative today.
Asus N56JR on Newegg
Asus N56JR thread
Does anyone know anything about the N56JR? 15.6", 1080p, i7 4700HQ, and GTX760m. Based on the limited details I've found, it seems like a small step down from the P35k with a TN screen, 33mm height, and 760m, but you're gaining extra RAM, maybe better build quality, and saving $300. Might be a good alternative to the P34g, which is my runner up at the moment. -
Hi,
If you are contemplating spending between 1800-2200$ on a laptop, I think you would be much wiser to go with the new MSI GT60 2OD 3K series.
It is ~2100$, so basically the same price as the dell XPS.
Excpet, the xps has a 750m, whereas the GT60 has an 780m, which is almost 3x as fast as the 750m, and twice as fast as the 765m in the p35k. (It also has 4gb video ram vs 2gb on xps/p35k)
It's really similar to both, while exceeding both at the same time, and being a much much better value. That system is a beast that will remain top of the line much longer than either of the laptops youve mentioned. It is a lot more future proof. (the lenovo y510p is an ~800$ laptop that has the same videocard 750m as the xps15, making the xps15 look that much worse of a value)
The Asus N550jv with matte 1080p IPS screen is also around 1000$ and is very good value for your dollar; you get the nice matte ips display and the 750m videocard but at 1/2 the cost of the dell.
(I would avoid the N56, or any other laptop with a TN panel. They are inferior, and with the n550jv being an inexpensive option with an excellent display, I cannot fathom why someone would choose a low quality panel when IGZO, IPS, AHVA, PLS, etc. are superior in every way.) -
If only they put the 760m and the black keyboard on the N550JV they would have a winner.
(With Warehouse deals on Amazon I can get a Like New N550JV with Prime for $870. Yesss!) -
well N56JR is 6lbs while p35K is 5.07 lbs, N56JR just looks like a regular gaming laptop to me. more comparable to the gigabyte p25k
and p34g is way lighter 3.57 lbs for the same power
