I'm considering the Clevo W230ST as a replacement for my HP tm2-2105eg and was wondering if there would be any (even an insignificant) performance gain if I'd choose the 1866/CL10 over the 1600/CL9.

I was aiming for the Intel Core i7-4702MQ CPU and don't plan to OC in any way.

The RAMs which I'm considering are:

    2x Crucial Ballistix SO-DIMM 8GB PC3L-12800S CL9-9-9-24 (DDR3L-1600)
    2x Crucial Ballistix SO-DIMM 8GB PC3L-14900S CL10-10-10-30 (DDR3L-1866)

    Any insights?

I went to a store and tried a few memories.
I have tried to edit more memories: Kingston-Kingston, Hyundai-Hynix, Kingston-Elpida, Kingmax-Kingmax, and Corsair
    Each of them same problem.
After writing the values do not change.
And I know are not write-protected.
Could this be some kind of Asus protection?
Since in the XTU missing from the memory and the voltage setting .

Does anyone have thaiphhon burner license?
    Thanks.

I have the paid version, I can edit the Kingston HyperX PnP sticks, they are completely unprotected

    @Ratakresch

If our argument is strictly academic
I would go for the 1866mhz, the generous size and high performance Intel caches on their modern CPUs have pretty much rendered low latency RAM useless. The higher bandwidth is a big boon for the iGPU in addition to boosting overall system performance.

    In practice
the system performance difference is really miniscule, you'd be hard pressed to notice, I have 2133mhz RAM and its only a mild improvement to system and windows minimization snappiness. You will typically get around a 10-15% performance boost for the iGPU plus the frame rate will also be smoother with fewer fluctuations. These points are especially important if there is a large price difference between the modules.

Same here, I can pretty much write to all of my memory. Never tried any 8 gb sticks though, but all my Kingston is writable.

viap, either you are doing smth wrong or smth wrong with your laptop.
I reflashed 8GB sticks , Mushing 2x8GB. It can't be that all that memory was protected.

    I don't understand what's wrong.
I was able to edit with previous laptop and previous TB license A-Data, Corsair and Kingston memories. Now with the new TB license I can't.
I tried to edit same Kingston memory.

Just want to share a few things, according to Intel Datasheet and based on my own experience. Asus U36SD (Intel Core i3 2330M) doesn't support DDR3 1600 because today I've swapped my own samsung into Asus N43 (Intel Core i7 2670QM) both using the same HM65 Chipset and according to Intel Datasheet they don't support anything above DDR3 1333 but my Samsung is running at JEDEC speed DDR3 1600 11-11-11-28-2T. Maybe the BIOS is the main culprit here... lol

As I don't use iGPU, I don't benefit from the hike in bandwidth so my main goal is getting good balance between tight timings and fast speed. I'm currently using 1866Mhz @CL9-10-9-27. Only problem is that the sticks I'm using are only 2GB each so I'm rocking 4x2GB. If anyone wants to play around, I got 4x2GB sticks rated XMP 1600Mhz CL7.

The ones I'm using are 1866Mhz CL9 when activating XMP Profile 2, it's not stable hence I have to tweak it a little bit. My spare ones are 1600 CL7 when activating Profile 2. I have not messed with any of them using Thaiphoon burner or anything. I just adjust in the bios.

visp, I have found the reason for not writing SPD EEPROM. If you have a Haswell-based notebook you cannot reprogram SPD EEPROM since the SMBus Host Controller is programmed by BIOS to disable SPD write commands. This feature is new to Intel SMBus controllers and has been implemented within Haswell only. Probably, Intel wants to restrict SPD reprogramming. Anyway, I am going to disable this feature and release a new Thaiphoon Burner update within 12 hours.

Sorry, guys, SPD write commands are disabled for device addresses 50h - 57h within SMBus Host Controller of all 8-series Intel chipsets. This means that begining from the Haswell platform Intel no longer allows users to reprogram SPD EEPROM..

    Hi,
Thanks. It's very good news. Unfortunately I have no licence already.
For some reason I can't use xmp in my asus laptop.
I made an unlock bios to access the memory settings.
I can change from default dimm to xmp profile 1 or 2, but nothing happens.
After reboot, the default dimm left.
What do you thing, is it possible to overclock from 1866mhz cl10 to 2133mhz cl12 without xmp?
    I have g.skill 2x8gb 1866mhz ddr3l.
    G.Skill F3-1866C10-8GRSL.thp
    Many memory (1600mhz cl9) can work at 1866mhz cl10.

Anyone tried OCing Samsung 8GB 1600mhz sticks? Any luck at 2133? I'm considering either Samsung (and push it) or just grab something locked down like Crucial Ballistix or G.Skill Ripjaws (1.35v 1866 CL10). Recommendations will be much appreciated. :)

Who would have known? CPU-z, another BM'ing/BS program.

    Thanks TURBODUDE!!!

(To be honest, I thought the 1064.4 MHz that James D was posting was showing a 'decrease' from the rated 1600MHz module speed. Then I remembered that it has to be doubled, lol, showing 2128.80 MHz effective speed of the RAM (a 33% increase).

So when tightening up on the timmings which are the important ones to play with? I have my memlry running at 10-11-11-28 @2133. I ran memtest and it passed as well as benchmarks in Win8 with no crashes.

TURBODUDE, yeah, thanks, I knew abut that bl info of JEDEC in the CPU-z. ANd I bet canardpc also knows that but doesn't fix because either they can't or because nobody uses that information anyway. Everybody knows that only Memory Tab is useful. While SPD tab shows only info about manufacturer, date and original speed.

Wondering if you can answer this question. I have Crucial BallistiX 1866mhz(8Gig) modules that I can run at 2133mhz by manually setting the BIOS. I wanted to program the settings into an XMP profile. When I do the changes with Thiaphoon Burner it takes to the chips, but when I set it to XMP Profile 2 in BIOS it keeps resetting to default. Is there more to making the changes of just setting the T states?

Ask johnkss. He tested different Samsung RAM.

EDIT: Oh yeah, 1 my friend told me 2 weeks ago that M471B5273DH0- CK0 are the best. 2133 @10-11-11-20-1Т. And he told that I never should buy M471B5273DH0- CH9, they suck.

can someone please reply to this guy? as I wanna know the answer too. 1866mhz 8gb stick running at 2133mhz sounds unreal but would sure love to have..(possibly 2 x 4gb, as in 8gb module?) as he stated he OC with just bios settings without flashing the ram, sounds too good to be true.

if this is the case imma go for 32gb 1866mhz at 1.35v..

Try this: Open your dump. Click editor tab. Choose DDR3 Speed Bins: DDR3- 2133L and click NEXT. Choose Reprogram SPD EEPROM with new SPD data. Apply and done. If it doesn't will be stable, please do not blame me.

Hey there) Need some help to figure out why my kit doesn't run at advertised speeds. Purchased this
    Newegg.com - CORSAIR Vengeance Performance 8GB (2 x 4GB) 204-Pin DDR3 SO-DIMM DDR3 2133 Laptop Memory Model CMSX8GX3M2B2133C11

But it clocks the modules at 1866Mhz CL11 only. Is this a thing with Haswell laptops and is it possible to play around it using Thaiphoon burner, eg.

Laptop - Alienware 18 (2013), tried to put 2133mhz in the bios - no luck as well. Laptop boots with the same 1866Mhz speeds. Any help appreciated! Thank you

    Hello guys,
i got a clevo laptop and want to know if its possible boost my ram from 1600 to 1866
    this are the specs 2x4gb
    Module Part Number: KHX1600C9S3/4GX
    Memory Speed: 800.0 MHz (PC3-12800)
    Timings 9-9-9-27-39 1T 128tRFC @1,5V

I saw that Geocake flashed his kingston hyperx 1600mhz to a corsair vengeance 1866mhz.
is it the same as i got?
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/ali...enchmark-thread-part-4-a-234.html#post8381346

btw I there is a option in intel xtu which can change the my ram speed and timings. is there a difference that i should prefer this app?
my intent was to save the 18eggs and ask u for the timings which i can mb chance myself in intel xtu.

sorry for my bad english guys ^^ but i hope youll be able to understand me =)

You could edit your own to the new speed to be honest.

thank you for your reply Meaker.
is there any difference between boosting dual and quad channel?
will the timings stay as told for 1866 settings or just for 2133?
do you have the same rams as me?
and what have i to do if the laptop wount boot?
just pull accu out and pull the rams out or have i to disconnect my bios battery?
will the settings then be restored by themself?
im just scared thats why i ask that much.
if i do it for 1st ram and if i have success then the 2nd and if not put
both in and then put settings back on the 1st one right?
i know many question but i would be happy about your replay again =)

Quad channel is just trickier than dual but it only applies to the clevo 570WM with the X79 chipset anyway.

The timings and speeds are all dependant on how you set them, you should be able to do it in XTU. It will reset the settings if they don't work and if it really gets itself confused then you have to do a cmos reset.

ddr3 will probably last at least another year and half thats a long time, and ddr3 sodimm will probably last even longer just saying. i'll wait for ddr3 sodimm 2x8gb module at 2133mhz and buy that when that happens. if not i'll just go 1866.

with bclk alone i got 1866 to 2000 so pretty satisfied

Anybody knows what can I do with a pair of CMSX8GX3M2A186 in my Alienware M15x ? The max supported speed is 1333, is it possible to reach higer frequencies by modding those sticks with Thaiphoon Burner ?

It seems that my CMSX8GX3M2A186 are using SpecTek chip PRN512M8V70SG8RAF-15E so I flashed ant it goes dead, we are trying to find a solution with Thaiphoon support but does anyone have the same sam and chip with an original dump to send it to me ?

Astelith, if you need my assistance I can modify the original SPD dump from CMSX8GX3M2A1866C10 by overwriting non-JEDEC compliant timing settings with standard DDR3-1333H speed bin which is specific for PRN512M8V70SG8RAF-15E SDRAM components. I believe this will bring your modules to life again.

Hey, thanks for your help, the problem here is that I forgot to dump the original firmware. I had one but for the Micron D9 :(

so i finally managed to join the RAM overclockers after finding out that Intel XTU settings actually DO stick, but only after a shut down and cold reboot :D

before heading out and getting myself some faster sticks, i decided to do some noob dry runs first with my current setup of 4x4 GB Corsair Value Ram DDR3-1333 at SPD 9-9-9-24 1.5V

after some tweaking and stability testing via memtest86+, this is what ive got out of them:

who wouldve thought that these "value" sticks could even handle any OC whatsoever? :D

    anyways, just ordered myself those Corsair Vengeance sticks: CMSX16GX3M2B2133C11 / 2x8GB / DDR3L-2133 / 11-11-11-27 / 1.35V

here an amazon link for additional reference: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Vengeance-Performance-2133MHz-CMSX16GX3M2B2133C11/dp/B00H33JU3K

im aware that the vengeance sticks have a lower-rated SPD (in this case DDR3-1600 at 9-9-9-24) and thus have to be manually OCed first or their XMP profiles activated in order for them to reach their rated speeds.

soooo.....does anyone have some experience with these yet? any input would be much appreciated :)

    cheers

edit: found some user reports here on nbr, looking promising thus far :) just hope my memory controller is able to reach 2133 mhz :D thats the highest i can go for anyways, via intel xtu and since i dont have any bios settings to play around with thats the only option i got :p

wonder if system snappiness will increase significantly, especially considering my considerable jump from 1333 to 2133!
