    Finally received my Vengeance sticks!!!

install went down without a hitch, funnily stock speed wasnt at 1600 but at 1866 Mhz 10-10-10-28-1T, so less manual overclocking for me to take care of :D

first step was to set them via intel xtu 2.1 to the corsair-specified 2133 Mhz 11-11-11-31-1T and check if my memory controller could handle it. boot and memtest86+ didnt show any issues, so this is what ive got thus far (CPU-Z and HWInfo64):

At the moment im tightening the timings one by one, CL is stable at 10, even managed to boot my rig at 9 but it wouldnt stay stable in memtest. next stop: tRCD! :D

Wait wait.. So you basically increasing the bus clock from 800MHz to 1064MHz and this mean you max CPU frequency is 5.7GHz.. How does this not increase the temps of the CPU when its running at that freqency? :)

haha nooo, that 5.9 Ghz shown in hwinfo is just the max. multi u can set! of course my cpu aint stable at that speed, it only goes up to 4.9 :p (stable at 4.7 ;) ) also, the ram gets a different divider with each speed step, so at 2133 mhz that would be 10.67, whereas busclock stays at 100 mhz ;) for everyday usage i keep my cpu at 2.7 ghz, since im also using a smaller 120w psu at work, which in turn maxxes out at that specific cpu clock.

btw, making progress with the timings here, these modules truly are beasts! ill give an update later once i nailed the tightest memtest-stable timings :)

    done aaaand DONE! :D

look at this tRAS timing!!!! i just couldnt believe my eyes when i found this as the stable value  :err: :D

and this is what i got in MaxxMEM2

totally happy with these results and i must say i can actually feel the difference when comparing the overall system snappiness with my previous RAM config! especially at work when handling those bigass excel files with tons of raw data i have to wait a little bit less when opening them a bunch at a time :D:thumbsup:

PS: question to the RAM pros - would it make sense, performance-wise, to try and tweak the "further down the road" RAM timings? such as tRRD, tWR, tRTP, tWTR, tRFC and tFAW....?

Hello to the community and greetings from Greece.

I bought 1 year back the following laptop

HP DM4 Beats Edition 3099se from EBAY (came from the States)

Since i decided to keep this piece berause i like it a lot i was thinking to add memory and i need for sure few tips.

I bought the laptop with the i5-2450m/35TDP but 2 weeks back i upgraded to i7-2820QM/45TDP , msata SSD i530 and a HGST 1TB HDD 7200RPM. At the same time i upgraded the psu (genuine) from 65W to 90W (genuine)

The price difference between the 2820QM and the 2920XM was not so high but this laptop is not designed or not equiped/vented properly to run a 55TDP CPU. That's why i bought the 2820QM for 129USD regarding the 189USD of the 2920XM

I have now 2x4GB 1600Mhz so-dimms from diff manufacturers. I was surprised when i installed the 2820QM and i saw the memory at 1333. The sticks are 1.50v and the chipset is HM67

From what i've heard and seen/read around here Corsair + GSkill so-dimms are oriented mainly for Clevo/Sager/Eurocom or Alienware machines since those have unlocked BIOSes and few of them use even desktop hardware.

I don't want to mess with TBurner (since i don't own it) and i want a plug and play solution. Please advise which kit i must search or buy in order to gain few MHZ in my memory setup.

    1)Old Hyper-X at 1.50v ?
    2)New Hyper-X Impact 1.35v/1.50v ?

or something different. Thanks in advance.

important thing is to go for PnP (plug and play) so-dimms instead of XMP (xtreme memory profile) sticks. the former run at their advertized speed (e.g. 1600), while the latter need to be overclocked manually via bios or intel XTU. iirc the hyperX series are always PnP so u should be good to go with either kit :) although the 1.35V ones would potentially have more headroom for overclocking, in case u decide to go for that...

    cheers

Have just ordered 16GB (2*8GB) Corsair Vengeance DDR3L@2133Mhz for my new XMG P505, should get both next week. Think I need to use the Prema Mod Bios to get over 1866Mhz speeds, will post the outcomes here. The Kingston HyperX 2133Mhz was a little cheaper, but the Corsair has better CAS timings.

thats also the reason why i went for the corsair sticks :) theyre bootstable up to 2400 mhz but couldnt get them primestable at that speed. so i went down one notch to 2200 mhz and tightened up all timings as much as possible. happy with the outcome :)

Is it possible to flash ECC buffered ram to Unbuffered non-ecc or Unbuffered ecc?

I guess I'd have to do it on an ECC board to flash them compatible with non-ecc boards.

premamod indeed unlocks these settings in bios, but i actually used xtu, way easier to finetune settings cuz it automatically resets and reboots after a crash as opposed to having to pull the cmos battery every time i input unstable bios settings ;)

in the end itll depend on your cpu IMC, ram sticks and the applied voltages to digital / analog IO and system agent, whether or not u can reach specific speeds and timings :)

Okay, thanks, that's useful to know. So you need to flash to the Prema Mod bios to unlock the settings, but then actually change them in XTU, right? To be honest, I'll still be happy as long as I can at least get the RAM to run at 2133MHz on the stock timings on my P651SE, but I may try to push it a little further.

    Indeed! Fingers crossed!

actually, the settings were already unlocked before i flashed prema bios :) they just werent unlocked in the bios itself. no idea though if thats gonna be the same with the P650 series. also, my corsair sticks booted at 2133 mhz right away, i didnt have to manually adjust them :) this was different in my previous rig (P150HM), where they booted with 1866 Mhz and i manually had to set them to 2133 Mhz.

When I asked HTWingNut about how it would work on the Clevo P650 series with 1866Mhz or 2133Mhz RAM he said "Stock BIOS will run at 1866MHz and detect it just fine. 2133MHz will work just will run at 1866MHz. Prema's modded BIOS should allow for it running at the faster speed."

mine was also 31 tras at stock, so its all good :) u can change the timings in xtu, just go to the ram section and click on custom, then set the timings and reboot :)

So... if you use the laptop with a dgpu to play games and do graphics in general, are there other benefits to high speed system RAM in terms of OS performance gains?
Because, I was under the impression that high speed RAM mainly benefits IGP's. For systems with a dgpu, going with a higher speed RAM won't really notice benefits.

higher ram speed helps out in minimum fps, thus potential reduction in stutters. also, depending from which speed ure upgrading from, u might feel a higher overall "snappiness" in the system :)

but true, aside from those specific scenarios, u wont see that much difference by ram upgrades. most important thing is to have enough of it installed for ur needs and for it to be dual channel, the speed is rather secondary

    Hi!

I recently bought some good quality memory for my Acer (i5-4210U, Lynx Point LP), a 2x4Gb kit of Kingston HyperX 1600Mhz DDR3 kit. Since there are laptops with the same chipset that are able to run 1866Mhz, i was wondering if is it possible with my acer, because then the next upgrade would be a 2x8gb. 1866Mhz kit.

Am i correct, if i could flash an 1866Mhz entry to the SPD, if the laptop is capable of running the rams @1866, that would be enough? I've attached a pic of the current SPD, could anybody help me with the timings i should try to set?

EDIT: Unfortunately as i found out, SPD writes are disabled, so this question doesn't need to be answered

    If someone buying Thaiphoon Burner I'd like to highlight three things;

-the program is only for one laptop,
    -the license will expire,
    -no excuse by customer service.

These things are hidden in their policy, which nobody are reading. I screwd double, the last years license is expired, than now purchased a new license, unfortunately I did with the old laptop, got licensed to that one (which I am selling), so I cannot use the program again. Haha, better to spend money for modules, at least than you have some physical goods and nobody can take it from you!

Good, now it is clear warning for forum members. Instead go trough the buying process from this point and tell me where these warnings are showing up?! 16USD is not a big deal me (two times now), but found it bad was not even good for one time use. Normally If I purchasing a software that means lifetime and can use it on anywhere If I want...

    Hello,
    I have some Question`s.
    Has the Corsair memories
    Corsair Vengeance 8GB Kit SO-DIMM DDR3 PC3-17066 CL11 (CMSX8GX3M2B2133C11)
2 Rank or is it single rank?

Can i use Thaiphoon Burner with these Memories, with the Crucial 8GB Kit (4GBx2) DDR3 PC3-14900 Unbuffered NON-ECC 1.35V
    (BLS2C4G3N18AES4CEU)
(i mean the crucial have 2 Rank)

and with the actual Kingston HyperX impact 2x4gb 2133mhz. ?

    My Notebook is a Asus G73sw (HM65/ i7 2860QM)

    Thank`s for your help.
