15" IPS? Anywhere to get ahold of one? How is though? Any better than the v4?

Notebookcheck's review of the Lenovo W520:
Review Lenovo ThinkPad W520 Notebook - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
A much stronger review of the LEN40B2 B156HW01V4 [Matte 95% Gamut] screen, that was somewhat poorly reviewed in the W510 system, from over a year ago.
Here it scores on par with its glossy counterpart. -
And Notebookcheck's review of the XPS15 AUO17ED (B156HW01 v7):
Review Dell XPS 15 Notebook (i5-2410M & GT 540M) - Notebookcheck.net Reviews
Found this for easy comparison of the glossy 95% gamut vs the matte 95% gamut. -
As if we needed more assertion that the B156HW01 v5 (AUO15ED) is a terrible screen.

I have a v5 that's busted. ASUS G53SW-XA1 (The XA1 was the only SW to my knowledge to have a Full-HD screen.)
Would it be a no brainer to replace it with a v0? -
Either the v0, v1, v4, or v7 would all look WAY better than the V5 that is stock to your system.
Installation is a bit time-consuming, although not super difficult. You just have to be careful.
Here is some disassembly, parts of which will be required to access what you need to replace the LCD:

EDIT: Look up a couple posts to find reviews I've posted (and differences) between the 4 screens you can choose from. Once you find the screen you want, make sure wherever you buy it from, you DOUBLE CHECK that they will send you the -exact- model number they are advertising. A lot of vendors trick you by selling it as THE model number, where in fact, will send something "compatible".
I'll find you the link, I've posted in a thread before, where we pointed out some of these offenders.
EDIT2: Here you go: http://forum.notebookreview.com/dell-xps-studio-xps/592611-where-buy-auo-b156hw01-v-4-screen.html -
I spent a majority of my day looking up details and I am looking for a V.4, which happens to be $170-$200. I'm not sure if I care enough to pay more than double the price. >.> AUO discontinued all of their HW01 models.
I can't imagine that the ONLY non-discontinued 15.6" 1080p LCD screen is the HW03 V0, which is nowhere near as good as 4 or 7... though still better than the v5.
*sigh* This should be criminal. Heh.
UNLESS...... there are other compatable screens from other manufacturers. -
I went from looking at a v5 to a v0 and REALLY found comfort.
I'd recommend a v4 or v7 only if you're going to get it calibrated and configured, and if you're into work that requires the accuracy. Also, to be noted, buying a screen from anyone other than an authorized dealer could end you up with one of the defective screens plagued by red ghosting many have encountered (mostly in the v4s).
I remember employees from Xotic posting on the boards stating that their screens are put through this additional step by Sager now, to ensure they don't reach customers, as this is a sign of a defect.
EDIT: I have an H01 v.0, just to clarify, I saw you mention you're looking at the H03.
EDIT2: It does look a little underwhelming: http://www.anandtech.com/Show/Index...page=6&slug=dell-xps-15z-sincerely-flattering -
Hey guys, is it physically possible to install a B156HW01 v7 on an ASUS G53SW which runs with a B156HW01 v5? Because from what I heard, this is the most horrific thing on my laptop, and I really like enjoying my movies....
-
If you aren't, ask for the model number of the "compatible" screen being offered to you, and look it up online, double checking reviews before you buy. That G53sw default screen was a bad screen and I want you end up with something better.
Check my post history, I've made a couple of guide-like posts in the G53sw forums for tips on how to do what you're after and what your options are. -
I managed to find a hassle-free, red ghosting-free, authentic B156HW01 V4 from evolutioncomputersparts on Ebay.
It's unbelievable how big of a difference this has made from my V5.
AUO AU OPTRONICS B156HW01 V4 15.6" FHD LED ANTIGLARE | eBay
My only gripe is that evolutioncomputerparts is very very very slow to respond to E-mails. (They didn't answer my question about the ghosting until after I received the screen.) But since there was no ghosting, and it was indeed a V4, I had no need.
And Holo, I bougt a V4 for my ASUS G53SW. It's a PAAAAAAAAIN to remove the screen. But that's ASUS's fault. It's doable, and it's a HUGE upgrade from the V5 that comes with the ASUS. -

Anybody know which 15.6" 1980x1080 screen fits the Clevo W860CU? It does come in 1980x1080 flavour but mine is only 1600x900. Would be nice to know my options if I decide to upgrade

Apologies if I'm bumping the thread needlessly, but I can't seem to find any other good thread on 15.6" FHD displays.

You sure you have FHD cable? If the image looks like every second vertical row is missing, you need a different cable.
-
This is where I got it from, it said FHD, its a Lenovo LEN40B2 thats what the driver updated to. the Ribbon Cable fitted right with no problem.
here is a new pic, its starting to look better, but its still something thats causing it to look hazey.Attached Files:

First time I booted I had a bright patch but that disappeared after a couple of minutes of use.
It's funny, on darker screens it's as bright as my old one, but when you get a white background it just flares up. -
Can I get a woot woot -

BTW the delivery company left it with a neighbour (they tried again the same day) so I got it on Sunday.

I didn't saw it listed, so how about this 10-bit, S-IPS, RGB LED AWESOMENESS P/N LP156WF3-SLB1
I guess that's the DreamColor one. I would kill to have something like it for 15.4" size

ordered HD+ cable from alinc.com.
spent about 3 hours and installed them onto my 6560b and dv6z-6100, and they are just AWESOME.
Thanks for the panel, and thank god you have what i want but not compatible ones -
We do have this panel (LaptopScreen/580715),
but it's a Dell specific connector =( -
how is the B156HW01 V.1 compare to V.4?
I'm thinking about replacing my LCD in HP 4530s -
would you say the B156HW01 V.1 is a good alternative for the B156HW01 V.4?
-
Hi everyone i got a xps 15 L502x with the really crappy 720p screen and would like to change to FHD one and i check around and B156HW01 V.7 is the exact same screen that dell offer. But i am looking for a matt screen, will B156HW01 V.4 fit into my laptop without problem or ghosting which other have reported due to cable not compatible.Any pros here know how to check if my cable is compatible?thanks in advance
-
Just wondering if anyone tried to put an IPS panel into a P150HM yet?
Is it even possible - would one work like the DreamColour HP 15,6" screen?
Also has anyone seen both the B156HW01 V4 and V7 in action so they could comment if the V7 really has that much better contrast, colors and brightness compared to the V4 to be worth loosing the matte finish?
Dont get me wrong the V4 was already a darn good upgrade over the V1, just wondering if i can do better... -
If you do, I will be happy to get your V4
-
Good to know, i just need ti find myself an IPS or the V7 first...
-
IPS is a no, Aikimox tried it but there are far too many bugs supporting the 10-bit RGB to get it to work.
V.7 is a great upgrade, phenomenal brightness, contrast.
I've used V4 and V7. -
Thought the IPs was a no-go... Thanks for the info Ryan.
Just might try out the V7 (if i can find one that is) and see if i can live with the glare. -
I had both V4 and V7
