I've bought a AUO B156HW01 V.4 from eBay LBO International. It was cheap but it has a white, bright pixel. The seller stated pixel warranty is for more than 2 dead pixels, and is selling displays with one dead pixel, so it's not a recommended way to buy this screen. I never ever understood people who are caring about pixel-free displays, but now I understand them. This shining pixel drives me crazy. Now I'm considering buying an other screen.

My question is, that what is the best compatible matte screen with the 40 pin LVDS cable. I know for sure that the LG standard gamut (used in M4600 non-IPS, E6520) screen works, and of course there id the AUO B156HW01.

But is there any IPS screen which works from a 40 pin LVDS cable? The ones in the M4600 and the 8560w are 50 pins and they are so different electrically that they require a different motherboard.

If there are no matte IPS screens with 40 pin LVDS interface, then what would you recommend. Buy an other AUO? Or I should look into the LG? Or something else?

Hi, I recently purchases the clevo w860cu laptop and noticed the lcd was 1366x768. Would I be able to upgrade it to fhd 1920x1080?

    Current LCD: LP156WH2(TL)(QB)

If it is possible, will the B156HW01 V.3 be a good replacement?

Ask it in the forum, but its very probable that you don't need to change cables. I'd recommend V.4 or V.7 based on your taste about matte or glossy.

Ask it in the Dell forum, they might know what cable it uses.

Is that all what I need to know before I buy a screen? I can take it apart any time and check the connector type.

No, maybe it's compatible, maybe it's not. Your best bet is to try to find out your current monitor with MonInfo EnTech Taiwan | Utilities | Monitor Asset Manager

Then try to google the datasheet for that monitor and see if it's equivalent for example to the AUO B156HW01 family (40 pin LVDS).

Thanks, with this program I could find my current screen model: AUO23EC. I did not find info about the connector type, but hope in Dell forum they will be able to answer me. Usually how much cost a FHD screen?

Got the same display B156HW01 V4 for my modded GX660 and is superb.
It took me 2 weeks to find this specific model as all reviews of laptops with this display were enthusiast on Anandtech and Notebookcheck, and you can find also some videos on Youtube...
I still can't find a better display around. Matte, hi brightness, 95% Adobe RBG gamut (remember you can always balance color saturation from the drivers panel of AMD or nVidia software if it's too much for your eyes....). All new LGs displays I've seen can't just compete.

I still recommend this model to everyone as one of the best or the best of all.

I got the same screen as well. Got it for 60 bucks used condition, ebay. It is the nicest display ever. Colors are like SUPER AWESOME. Only bummed that I couldnt get an IPS display cause I dont know which LVDS cable supports 10 bit color.

We have to forget about the 10-bit IPS screen, as the ones used in DreamColor machines, they use 50-pin cable and totally custom electronics. However, there are the 8-bit and 6-bit IPS displays, like the ones in Sony SE and Envy 15. Those ones use 40-pin cable and are compatible with the AUO. Look for details in my sig!

i've just updated my msi gx660 laptop coming with an old and crappy auo v.5 with the well known v.4 matt and it's surely amazing in color, brightness and contrast, a great upgrade at all.
To tell "my" truth i think this panel's fidelity is fully comparable with my desktop flatron ips235 monitor (not professional indeed but very good for average price).

    *BUMP*

I tried a 1080p screen from a friends Asus g51vj in my 1564 and it worked perfectly, so with that upgrade path open I'm looking for the best 15.6" screen that will fit my 1564. I prefer a matte screen, any idea if the first post is still up to date..? Any recommendations for a screen? And good place to buy it from? (heard some bad stories about 'compatible' ripoffs). Lets say I'm from Europe.

EDIT: the screen I tried was a B156HW01 V.5 H/W:0A F/W:1 and it looked about 10x better than the junk I have in here right now.

Same as the last couple of years - B156HW01 V.4 - it's 95% gamut, matte display with good response times. There are some IPS displays, but would they work, remains unknown, until someone tries. LP156WF4-SLB5 is such - AH-IPS, matte, I'd guess 72% gamut (it's not stated), and slower (16ms). It's up to you - make a sure bet, or try something new :)

Thanks for the quick answer, I shall go on the hunt for a B156HW01 V.4 'exact model' then!

For the record if other people stumble across these posts: stock 1564 is not going to cut it, to get a 1564 to accept 1080p screens you need the 1764's LVDS cable and possibly 1764's motherboard (I have both in my 1564).

I've got a Dell XPS 15 L502X with the glossy 95% gamut screen, B156HW01 v.7, I'm actually "downgrading" a screen that isn't so far outside of the sRGB color space as the oversaturated colors are messing up my photo editing workflow. I ordered the B156HW0 v.1 as this review shows amazing sRGB coverage. I was sent the B156HW01 v.0 instead which apparently is the same, just the glossy version (I ordered glossy), yet this review makes the version 0 look horrendous in comparison. Does anyone have any more info about what's going on? And if I need to return the glossy for the matte v.1 for the expected ~90% sRGB coverage I'm looking for?

Both the retailer and somwhere here on the forums state the v.0 is just the glossy version of the v.1, and the spec listings on the AUO website show both panels at 60% of NTSC, but the multiple reviews on notebookcheck show the v.1 at probably around 70% of NTSC. If that's truly the case, I have no choice but to return the v.0 and get the matte v.1. (Paid about $70)

I already have an i1 Display 2 and calibrate my laptop screen often, and also have 2 highly rated IPS external monitors which I never use due to laziness. Long story short, having the oversaturated colors of the 95% gamut screen at certain points in my workflow are more of a headache than what its worth as I only output for sRGB sources.

V0 is 60% gamut and glossy. I have it in one of my laptops and the viewing angles are wonderful, nice colours, very deep black levels and also very bright if needed.

Its a keeper in my opinion.

I decided to return the v0 in favor of the matte v1, for my needs 60% NTSC isn't near high enough knowing the v1 looks close to 90-95% of sRGB in the multiple notebookcheck reviews. I'll have a used v7 for sale in a week if anyone is looking for one.

Hello, my laptop screen is cracked and I am also looking for a replacement. But I'm taking this as an opportunity to upgrade my screen at the same time. My original screen is a B156HW01 V5 and I want to replace it with the V4, I just want to be sure but it is compatible, right? Secondly, I want to order from laptopscreen.com , I am reading positive and negative things about this website. I came across this topic http://forum.notebookreview.com/hardware-components-aftermarket-upgrades/562895-anyone-ever-ordered-laptopscreen-com-4.html so it should be safe, but again, just be sure. Anyone with bad experiences? Or can someone recommend a seller inside Europe, because I live in the EU and this would mean I don't have to pay taxes to customs.

    Hello.

I exchanged a lot of malis with Ellis, an employee from LaptopScreens, who posts here under the username LSB. He was amazingly patient, helpful and he and his replies were the reasons I decided to purchase my screen replacement there.. BUT then...

You cannot use paypal if you are a first time user and you must pay with Webmoney (I'd never found a more cumbersome and confusing payment system) or via wire transfer, so I had to resort to eBay.

    Just a heads up.

Thanks for the answers. I did a search on ebay again today, and I came across a seller I didn't see before, http://www.ebay.com/itm/NEW-AU-OPTRONICS-15-6-LAPTOP-LCD-SCREEN-B156HW01-V-4-/230493091623?pt=UK_Computing_Laptop_Screens_LCD_Panels&hash=item35aa757727 . I think i am going to do my purchase here. 99,9% feedback, that can't go wrong, am I right? Also emailed them if this would be the exact part, they respnded within 1 hour saying it is.

But all of the B156HW01 screens are interchangeable, right? So no hassle with screw holes that are in different places or anything else?

Yes, they are all interchangeable. I'd still recommend the German seller, as they can guarantee dead-pixel free screens if you ask them. Here is their webshop:

Hi. I have a Gigabyte Q2556N. In the Gigabyte website there is an option for Full-HD display but I could not find the laptop with Full-HD display.

The current LCD is AUO B156XTN03.4. It is a 1366x768 and I am looking for a Full-HD replacement. It is a LED-Backlit and it is a 40 pin connector.

    I really appreciate your help.

Ok, I have bought it from screenshop_net. I also see they have a 1 year warranty instead of the 90 days warranty from bumblesale so thats a plus too. The screen should arrive on Wednesday, I'll give an update then on how the experience with screenshop_net was.

I ordered the display and it did not work. The place of the Pin was opposite and it did not work.

Does any one has any opinion? My current display 1366x768 has a very bad in quality. If I can get a full HD to work with it, it would be great, if not then a better quality and replacement for AUO B156XTN03.4 is a good idea.

    Thanks

If you currently have a 768p display you probably need to get a dual LVDS cable for a 1080p. Make sure it has the appropriate length to reach the panel and the right connector to your motherboard. It might be more complicated than it seems to find the piece - unless your notebook also has a 1080p version, in which case you need to look for THAT cable (maybe order it from the manufacturer).

Yes, the thread is old, I know...
Is the consensus that the B156HW01 v4 / v7 is still king?
Or are there any other gems out there which happen to have the same connector (40p LVDS) at the bottom left?
    Thanks

    I have a Thinkpad T520,

    The Thinkpad T520 initially had a 1366 x 768 and I simply replaced the panel with a B156HW01 v1 ( that's the version 1 )

No lcd cable swapping etc, etc it simply connected to the existing 40 pin connector, simple swap over and nothing else. In comparison to my replaced 1366x768 the B156HW01 v1 is many miles better. After all this is a TN panel, so 60% gamut vs 90% makes no difference.

    I'm more than satisfied :)

    Hi,

I am looking for a replacement panel to go in my Dell xps 15z. It had a 15.6 fhd 1080p screen before, 40pin connector. I really would like to know what screen would be best. Higher resolution the better. Is IPS an option?

Hi, I actually use a HP ProBook 6550b with an AU B156RW01 Panel (HD+ with 1600x900) and like to update that Laptop to a full HD Panel.

I know how to change them, how they work so I know that not all Panels work with all Laptops (or graphics cards to be more precise).

Hence I think the best is to use the same manufacturer I think I use an AU B156HW01 V.4 for upgrade.

So does anybody know if this is a good idea or should I better use a different panel?

    Hi,
This is my first post here, but i was following this thread as my laptop samsung NP550P5C comes with a 1600*900 ltn156kt06-801 display.

That display is one of the worst,i mean i've seen many screens and this has worst of everything contrast, pathetic black levels, brightness, colors you tell me everything was bad.
And i found this thread which was very helpful. Now i need to upgrade to a 1080p screen for that you need a compatible lvds cable and i found one from NP550P7C,the
17inch version which can handle 1080p and mind you rest of the specs were same.

Now i found that the AUO B156HW01 V.4 was the favourite.......and then i came to know of IPS screens from LG which also have 40pin....THANKS @zsero...

Now i dont know if anyone tried IPS in place of a TN.....you speak good of B156HW01 V.4 but its viewing angles are still TN....for me that's a NO.....

so........i tried my luck and................... IT WORKEDDDDDDDD.....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I used a LP156WF4 SLB5 IPS,the best of that series, which i found out after reading a good amount of notebookcheck reviews....ITS PURE AWESOME AND I LOVE IT..

Probably, I can't find this screen for sale... (not even sure if it would be compatible)
Any advice for a Medion Erazer X6823 upgrade? It's a MSI GT60/MSI 16F3 clone. Need a LVDS connector (40 pins). It seems that only LG makes IPS 15.6" panels with LVDS connector, but with that much models, it's hard to decide without any reviews/feedbacks, it's like playing lottery about the quality.
I think I'll stay with one of the best TN panel : AUO B156HW01 V4, I don't really care viewing angle, anyway, anything will be better than my current one (AUO B156XTN02.1, very bad screen) .
The last MSI GE60 seems to have a good panel as well, but it's nowhere to be found and is likely to be incompatible with my laptop anyway. (very likely to be an EDP connector)

I believe I’ve seen someone’s mentioning a Samsung IPS FHD panel for LVDS; I apparently didn’t note down the exact model. Sorry.

Well, do someone has a decent panel to suggest? not sure that an IPS panel would actually fit in my laptop (Medion x6823 = MSI GT60), so I was looking for the well known AUO B156HW01 V4/V7 but it seems discontinued and out of stock everywhere I checked (I live in europe, I don't really want to order too far because of warranty and shipping fees), every seller sells compatible screens which I bet are way worse than the one I am looking for.
I've seen the LG LP156WF1 TLF3 which looks decent but I am not even sure I can find this one since it's discontinued too (LVDS looks abandoned to eDP screens)
I will end ordering a random screen, anyway, anything will be better than my current screen anyway (bad contrast, bad colors, bad resolution)

I have the B156HW01 V0 since i want "normal" gamut 60% and glossy and i really love it. Add "exact" to your search on ebay and you will find the screen you are looking for. Then contact the seller and ask them if they will ship the exact item or compatible.

Avoid the V5, thats the crappy one that is standard in Asus and MSI gaming-laptops. Also the V3 is crappy if I remember correct.

Do you want matte or glossy?

If glossy is an option look for the V0, it´s really a nice panel. :)

Glossy or matte are both fine, i've seen these ones but I hope someone still sell them, below 300€ preferably :D
Thanks for the advice, now I have to question a bunch of sellers

The V0 should be easy to find, it was standard in a lot of models. I bought mine used for around 100€.

I've just receive my LP156WF4-SLB5 from a seller of aliexpress (yes, I knew that was a risk, but anywhere else I contacted just stated they only had compatible screen). So far so good. I don't think I got a "fake" one. The quality is outstanding compared to my old one :). If you are looking for a panel that is out of stock almost everywhere, you can pick a reliable seller in aliexpress and give it a try :)
