Anyone know if this CPU didn't work in AW 17 because of eDP? If it can work in LVDS then might be an interesting CPU for AW 18 running Optmius.
I guess finding 5850HQ would be even more interesting

I thought about that but I refused to run my Ranger in LVDS at the time.
I just removed the CPU from an M6800 that I last tested it in and bent some pins, luckily none broke. Damn CPU felt like it was glued into the socket.
If you are willing to make the attempt at realigning the pins you are welcome to use it for testing your theory. While I may have been focused on other things lately I still have interest in the potential of this CPU. We've done business before and obviously a member to which I hold to a certain esteem so I have no problem sending it your way if you are interested, provided you will need to realign maybe a dozen pins. @ssj92
I would also advise finding a plastic pry tool lol -
Is the other laptops you got it working in LVDS or eDP? The Thinkpad and Dell.
Would also need a BIOS with the crystalwell microcode injected as a second resort if stock BIOS doesn't work. Although it sounded like the other laptops don't have any microcode for the CPU and they worked. -
The only microcode injection I messed with was the Ranger and it didnt alter anything.
No other system that was tested was eDP, all various brands but I believe them all to be LVDS.
I can try and fix it but cant guarantee anything until later in the week, in the middle of cleaning up my mining systems -
Ok let me know how it goes fixing those pins. I'm mainly concerned about reading how they easily die and stuff.
I have a feeling it'll work in AW 18 due to LVDS and it might even provide a small performance boost compared to 4930MX.
My biggest concern is removing that thing and getting pins stuck in my socket.
Also if it does work then I need to find one somewhere. -
Yeah the M6800 was the worst yet, not sure if its due to that specific socket or what but never had that issue in my Ranger or t440p.
In terms of gaming from what I had seen online its better than the 4790k clock for clock but in synthetics it doesnt seem to shine that well.
I plan to use it in a P157SM-A at some point so I hope its fine lmao -
Any idea where to get these CPUs still? Sounds like a new CPU for gaming especially for Optimus. -
4980hq BGA to rPGA processors
