    Hi,

It looks like AMD Radeon Pro WX 4150 DDR5 4GB card became available during March this year...
and Dell Precision series 15 inch laptops ship with this graphic card.

    http://www.ebay.com/itm/DELL-PRECIS...155929?hash=item283ef85cd9:g:F3UAAOSwBEpZlz0I

    https://technical.city/en/video/Radeon-Pro-WX-4150

It looks like an interesting option and I'd like to know if it's compatibile with Dell M4800, M4700, M4600.
Is there any way to find more about this card? It looks like not too many people know about this video card yet...

    Thanks in advance

Have you succeeded in m4600? M4800 is guranteed

    M4600 isn't likely, BIOS support isn't guarteed and thats why the M4600/M17X R3/R2 doesn't work with Maxwell/Pascal
M4700 with eDP is likely, but it requires a shim for the core like the M4800. You might want to check out the WX4170, its a RX 560 instead of a RX 460 core
Edit: I can't find it in a MXM-A format, I swear I did before. However, there is also a 1050 ti MXM A if you're interested

Yeah, I have a WX 4150 in my M4800, shim is necessary, and the performance is perfect. I am just wondering if M?600 can also fit such new cards. 1050TI was considered as failure since they don't support either eDP or lvsd.
BTW some people in China succeeded upgrading WX 4150 in M4800G1 (lvsd screen), that is why I am thinking about M?600 generation.
I have both M4800 and M6600, gonna try wx 4150 in M6600 under A16 BIOS then, UEFI is also considered since people claimed that they succeeded GTX 970m in M6600 under UEFI boot. If it works, I will buy WX 7100 to make my M6600 VR ready lol

    I'm considering buying a WX4170 B for my Clevo or my M6700 (both have eDP 120HZ panels) getting a M4800 with a WX4150 for $500 total (Motherboard+Machine+3K screen+GPU)
Don't waste your time with the WX7100, it's slower than the 980M and needs eDP, all Polaris/Pascal GPUs need eDP (or Optimus), that LVDS M4800 was a extremely rare occurrence
A 780M would technically be VR capable, but at a minimum. "VR ready" is just a buzzword phrase

Wow WX 7100 that bad? I didn't know that. I think it is the same as Rx 580. The techpowerup shows that it is 4% slower than GTX 980 desktop, and the notebookcheck shows a little bit slower than Gtx 1066 maxQ. But I didn't expect it to be slower than 980M, which might be, similar level as 1050ti.
Anyway, you are right, the eDP problem is terrific, I shouldn't try it (already get sick of disassembling the laptop again and again lol)

The main issue with the WX7100 is that you can't unlock the TDP, so it's stuck at 80W. This forces the clock speeds to stay very low, and allows for zero overclocking room. Its a good GPU if found cheap enough, but the 980M is usually the same price, cheaper, or only a few $$$ more expensive
While those comparisons are a good reference, its better to a have a reference from reality. Check out the MXM thread, I'll edit this with the link to the post
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/the-hopeful-of-keeping-mxm-3-0b-alive-thread.795048/page-231
If you want something good for the M6600, get a 7970M/8970M/M290X or a W7170M (No fan control IIRC)

I guess now I understand the possible reason for that M4800 lvds to work with WX 4150 but not M4600!
The M4800 lvds works may because of the AMD dynamic switchable technology. They use the dGPU to compute and use the iGPU to output. However for either 4600 or 6600, it only supports nVIDIA optimus but not the AMD one. Thus it is really awkward for m6600: No new nvidia GPUs supported by BIOS, and no AMD GPUs supported due to lvds.

The 2940xm would bottleneck them anyways

Did you have any problems with GPU's temperature? It seems that it could not see the GPU's temperature, so gpu's fan would not be activated. Although, the system does shuts down due overheating.

Sure there is a temperature problem due to the height of the chip. I bought a copper shim which is 0.8 mm thick and attached between the heatsink and GPU, and the problem was solved. (I have tried 0.5 mm 0.8mm and 1mm and I feel 0.8 mm is the best choice)

Can you run a firestrike and some game benchmarks like GTA V?

I don't have either 3Dmark Fire Strike or Grand Theft Auto, I played PUBG. The Texture, anti-aliasing and distance were set as ultra, the others are very low, the FPS were stable over 45.

Ok, I didn't know that. But I did benchmark on 3dmark11 with P6500.

Could that be due thermal pads thickness?

Could they be replaced with thinner (how thin?) thermal pads or just thermal paste?

I tried extra thermal paste before, the performance is about half less, the frame rate keeps varying due to the heat problem

Have you tried extra thermal paste on the GPU chip or memory? I was thinking to just remove thermal pads and apply thermal paste on memory chips and power supply elements, thus removing the gap between GPU chip and cooling system.

You may try, if you ask me, my prospect is NO, as the screw length limits. I am not sure since I have never removed my VRAM thermal pads
I have already told you the perfect solution, which is not costly. If you want to solve the problem, just follow it; if you want to propose a new idea, just do it.

Yikes, thats worse than my dual 8950m's... and considering WX4170 isn't much better, will just go for M4000M instead

I want to try WX 4150 or WX 4130 on my m4800.
WX 4130 now sells for only $100!
