You know how to skim written articles, same for videos, you can scroll the timeline bar marker for preview to find charts and graphs, see when transitions occur - they usually demark changes in subject / focus - if it gets long winded or boring you can jump ahead.

It's just the same as reading, and watching video / images + voice really does increase the uptake speed, comprehension, and long term retention of info.

Using both - reading while running a video in another tab so you can hear the audio for times to click over when it gets interesting increasing the coverage you can do. You can't read 2 articles at once, but you can read one, watch another, and listen to another all at the same time.

You can also run a video at the same time as another is playing in another window with the sound off and CC on - not all video's have CC enabled - but when they do you can listen to one video and "read" another.

Get creative, and you can learn to suck in the same rate of information via video / audio as with text.

There are also summaries in the Description - sometimes with time codes to the individual subjects / focus of the video to jump to right where you want right now - and then save the rest of the video for later watching in depth. Sometimes there are links to a written article made from the same testing results.

The Comments often help a lot too. You get the feel for if the audience is with the OP or against, what the top interest points are discussed and how others respond to those comments.

These Ryzen 5 videos are all different - different tests and focus, and since it's all new they are trying different things to maintain highest clock and stability. The 1400 is running about 3.8ghz, the 1600 at 4.0ghz.

Also, when I post videos, most of the time after I first discover a new subject for videos I post a bunch in a single post in the order I find them. Then I come back after I have watched them all and order them in the order I think offers the best progressive information of importance. I've done that for these Ryzen 5 videos.

Remember, you are going to be spending $$$$'s on your new computer, I'd recommend not *****ing about spending an hour learning about the details of the items making up that purchase.

Instead spend that kvetching time watching the videos - I often find people complain and vacillate about doing a task far longer than it takes to actually accomplish the task.

In summary, I'd say keep watching reviews, benchmarks, gaming, and build videos for more info on the 1400, 1500, 1500x, 1600, and 1600x :)

Sometimes I do that, but I find learning how they come to a conclusion is far more helpful than the conclusion itself.

I can also judge if they did it right or came to the wrong conclusion - not as unusual as you might think :)

Check out my other post just before this for other tips I use to get through many video's quickly.

I dunno man, I don't think my brain (or most people's brain for that matter) can read one thing & watch a video at the same time - the common myth of multitasking is "not doing lots of things at the same time", it's actually just "organising lots of things concurrently, but in any given moment just focussing on one" - that's been scientifically proven somewhere (haha, don't ask me where! ;-)).

I see your point about getting used to skipping through videos though - I'm sure I could get better at that, but I'd be surprised if it's faster than skipping through a well written article - pretty sure it's not, and I can also read a hell of a lot faster than people can talk anway too. Creds to you though on finding the interesting info on these topics - definitely a positive!

So you haven't done it, but doubt it works, and I have done it for many years and know for a fact it works.

I'll keep plugging away at actually doing multiple streams of input, and you can relax knowing it's impossible :)

It may be something that needs to be learned early on in order to program the brain to be successful at multi-tasking.

I used to listen to audio tapes, watch TV, read a book, do homework, while listening for DX to come through on 15/20/10 meters - several radios going. And, still had an ear out for the dog, sister, mother, and when my dad drove into the driveway. I didn't use the phone much back then, it was in another room in the house :)

I think you can do it too. Give it a shot, try multi-tasking a little at a time, learn to quickly switch focus on the front focus while maintaining awareness of the background tasks. It's something you learn over time.

It's easy to get focused on one thing and then as you come out of the focus needed to understand it you quickly switch to the other - sometimes jumping back to see what you missed.

So for that situation, where you find yourself focusing on one thing, I will disable the other inputs either mentally or physically - pausing other streams - but most of the time I can keep them all going at the same time.

    Good luck :)

Yeah, well when you are excited about life and the things in it, there is a mental urge to push through any blockages and improve one's abilities to work more efficiently and effectively.

Pushing yourself is the only way, give yourself plenty of leeway in making mistakes and quickly get going again after accessing your efforts.

Learning programming helps with that greatly. When most people start out they are awkward at failing so completely so quickly, and are taken aback at the precision required along with the unforgiving nature of compiling and running code successfully.

Learning to quickly debug and find problems, grow in ability to code right the first time, eventually getting fluent in writing a program, and then being fluent in program design and optimization really all contribute to personal confidence and improvements in other thought process in other subjects.

That may be a big contributor to being able to multi-task so well. I have many models in science, nature, and in myself to compare and contrast processes to streamline multi-processing.

Once you get in the habit of doing more than one thing at once, the less awkward it will be, and as a nice side benefit you will eventually be comfortable in situations that are overwhelming to most people.

Videos? Pass... (that's for movie night - about once a year...).

A well written article provides not only more densely presented information, but it also allows me to get a feel for the author's grasp of the topic too.

Most youtube videos are real-life cartoon characters giving one bit of info: their biased view. Pass/waste of my time.

Is there some info worth repeating in there? Sure... but a sentence/paragraph that I could read in 1.6 seconds would do far more justice to the topic than 12 minutes of inane 'humor' mixed with a few small facts and driven by the biases of the actor/producer/underwriter of the video.

For example, this article gives much more info that I can use wisely and I read all 9 pages in less than half the time than that ~12 minute video above which treated me (no; I didn't see it all... gave up after ~5 minutes) like I was 12 years old.

In addition to presenting the facts in a more digestible manner than a video can ever hope for - I can also have a copy of the whole article and store it on my phone while using less than a couple of MB's.

Yeah; a picture is worth a thousand words.

A video from youtube? Not so much. ;)

Little more tweaking. Here is 8.5 hours of Aida64 with 4.0 at 1.375 (Level 2) with the Ram - 3200 (18,18,18 18, 34) @ 1.35. Was finally able to pass with the ram set at 3200mhz for more than an hour. Temps are a little high - 78.8 (tdie) but still in my safe range as they will never get that high in real world scenarios. Still seems that anything below 18 causes windows to not load and 18, 16, 16, 16, 34 @ 1.35 fails in about 5 minutes. This is probably the best I can do without some more bios updates.

Edit: I may have spoke to soon. After running testmem 5 for a 3rd time I go an error. Do you think it would be safe to run the Trident Z at 1.375 or 1.4 volts?
Probably not a voltage issue though. I will probably have to loosen the timings more or go back to 2933.

With GSkill they have the Flare-x that is Ryzen certified so 2933 may be the best setting at least until more mature BIOS versions are out.

Regarding memory voltage, I know my RAM is supposed to be 1.35V, but at default my motherboard decides to put 1.36V through it, so for sure 1.36V is safe I would say - and thinking about it, 1.37V is not that far off 1.36V, maybe 1.37V is ok. And perhaps low RAM temperatures make voltage less dangerous (just a thought) - and I can see your RAM temperatures are good (just like mine), because you also have that wopping CPU cooler sucking in air over the RAM modules!

I've been absorbing as much information on Ryzen 5, specifically the 1600X. I'm going to hold off on my Ryzen build until the HEDT parts are out. I'm really hoping AMD remedies the memory issues before then.

I am happy to see AMD bringing multi-core computing into the mainstream, forcing Intel's hand, otherwise Intel would still be putting out 4c sku's with very little IPC changes. It is actually perfect timing, given that streaming is so popular.

Everyone, Wait for AGESA 1.0.0.5 due next month! That carries the memory tweaks for higher speeds and moe timing options. You will have to wait for the firmware updates to incorporate it nest month, but it has been posted in prior articles and AMD has said two months (MAY) since the release! Thank you!

It seems like a good mobo so far. A lot more settings than my other x370 mobo (MSI Carbon). Seems like the motherboard temps are good including vr temps, can save profiles, I like that it comes with wireless and Bluetooth, as far as updates I have not had it long enough to see how good they are with the updates but noticed they have had several updates with the bios already before I got it. Both mobos seem to be stable at 4.0, 1.375 volts but the Msi has no vr sensors which is unfortunate. I had no issues with either installing windows and drivers.
Edit: I had to bump it up to 1.3875 Volts after having a crash of running FPU only.

So, AMD scared Intel with the HEDT rumor. If this is true, and the 16C is true at 4GHz from AMD, red is about to face stomp blue:
    http://www.tweaktown.com/news/57059/intel-panic-ryzing-x299-reportedly-launching-june/index.html

Edit: it also means Intel is trying to **** with the other companies schedules. Remember the MB companies focusing on the 200 chipset and saying and caught them with their pants down, what do you want to bet they won't say that to Intel? Ram manufacturers, too. So, they literally are trying to screw with production BY MOVING IT UP 2 MONTHS (almost an entire quarter, the same charge MB manufacturers levied against AMD for the Ryzen 7 release)!!! If you don't see MB manufacturers give Intel the finger, you will know the deal.

Only reason you didn't beat me is I'm up working on a project against a deadline. Just had a 3 hour nap and power through until it is turned in...

Lol... okay; let's temper this a bit, shall we? :)

A launch in 'next' quarter can be within a span of 90 days or so... 2 months is not 'moving' anything. All that tells me is that it is finalized.

And by finalized? I mean they have their partners (M/B and other manufacturers...) on board and fully up to speed - unlike AMD - so if you see Intel having a more smoother launch than AMD did - it's because they did their homework and didn't show up for school in their tighty whiteys on 'launch day'.

Now, this is the 'answer' I've been waiting from Intel (well, part of it...). Can't wait to see where the chips fall... (yeah; bad pun! Shoot me!). :)

Where are you getting this **** from? First, AMD announced in January for March. Here, Intel is saying the same for June. Further, Intel pushed release to August in January. Finally, the motherboard manufacturers even said they focused on the 200 chipset. Nothing here says Intel made sure they were on the same page and Intel has left them high and dry other times. Now, there is a benefit for Intel bioses as they were similar to prior generations and mainstream using the same sort of components, but even that doesn't mean they are ready out of the gate.

Finally, knowing Kaby lake 14nm+ process is used for skylake-x, quad channel, 44PCIe lanes, and whatever the overclock go to on a 10C chip (4.6 for ****s and grins), it still puts less through than a 16C at 4GHz.

So, you put allot of assumptions there. I'm betting MB manufacturers also pull resources to launch the X299 over X399, making this a tactic to not just release at the same time, but to get hardware partners to harm AMD sales by not properly developing the system...

(Haha, "tighty whitey launch day" line was very funny, made me laugh - so had to give you a like for that one - I'm not an afficianado on the conversation you guys are having, but that did make me laugh!)

You know where I'm getting these facts from... that pile over there which you like to ignore called 'truth'. :)

A quarter is from 89 days to 91 days - depending on the quarter and if it's a leap year or not...

Nothing says they're on the same page except for the fact that Intel is sharing a release date. :)

I don't know of any Intel release that was similar to AMD's this year?

Once again: the theory may be pointing to your conclusions that 10C doesn't equal the throughput of 14C - but real world O/S + Programs + Workloads/Workflows may prove to be something entirely different.

    See:
    http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-ryzen-7-1700-cpu-review,5009.html

So, just like the above quote warns against: don't try to be misleading with your comments. The whole picture paints a very different scene than what one single aspect (or even several) may seem to hint at. ;)

Like this image showing Intel trying to mislead consumers saying it has an extra 24 PCIe lanes because of those on the PCH, which don't mean a damn thing because of the bottleneck between the CPU and the PCH, all to try to look better against the rumored ThreadRipper which is said to have 64 PCIe lanes?

And the info is 110% determined? I mean I've seen info about 4 channels. Who will pay for this?

Someone who cannot yet afford the higher core chips but wants to get on the platform which will last longer than their one year boards. There is still value and that is the market Intel planned to capture with KL-X anyways. They then were releasing CoffeeLake for mainstream at the end of the year. It's like crack, you give them a taste of the good stuff and say step up to the real deal with quad channel, etc. That way you move the people up that already wanted to move up, then you make people want to move up by showing them that they are missing out.

Unfortunately, AMD came in and hit this exact market segment, minus not doing as well on gaming, but rocking it out on other uses. Then, Intel now has head to head competition in the retail space for HEDT where they planned on stepping people up to because they could instead get a 12 or 16 core. See why Intel is pissed?!

Intel can be upset all it wants. It has been enjoying non competition for quite some time and became complacent. Since there was no real competition out there it could dole out better enhancements at a snails pace and charge us top dollar for them. AMD with Ryzen is now finally putting an end to that day.

Just saw some R5 1600X reviews, very impressed for the price. I wonder if it will be the new mid-range king.

At 4.0 Ghz, it more or less matches the i5 7600K in gaming but absolutely destroys it in productivity. Not to mention less stutters and frame drops due to 6 cores and 12 threads.
