Adding other players to the mix has been so refreshing. All we had for a while that approached acceptable broadband speeds was TWC/Spectrum. Then a local company started offering gigabit for better prices than Spectrum's 20/5 and now they're panicking. There were Spectrum guys going door-to-door in my neighborhood getting told to get bent for like a month after it was installed here, it was kinda sad.

Myself as well, it's the best way to know for sure you have full coverage, and that the amount is even across the contact patch.

That TR surface area is huge though, IDK what I am going to use for a spreader to make a clean single pass across it for spreading evenly :)

Since LTT has the same issue of R15 in the 2900's I wonder if it is the same there too? The second question, is LTT still in AMD favor here? I mean why was not this availed to them?

Cool, so rev 2 Ryzen silicon will OC further... unless this is a Unicorn siting. I really hope 4.1ghz is on the average side of the top OC's we will find.

"Let’s start out with the Cinebench R15 result first. Here, the 1950X manages to deliver a whopping 3337 points with all sixteen of its cores running at 4.0GHz. By comparison a similarly priced Intel Core i7 7900X gets 2169 points at stock and maxes out at 2464 with a hefty 4.6GHz overclock. That comes out to a 35%+ difference when both chips are overclocked. Not even the world record Cinebench R15 run of the 7900X at 5.96GHz with liquid nitrogen cooling is enough to surpass Threadripper’s score.

At 4.1GHz the figures become even more astronomical for Threadripper. The chip manages to score 58391 points in Geekbench 3. Which not only is by far the highest score for any desktop processor we have ever seen but also secures it a 37% lead over a 7900X overclocked to 4.5GHz which manages to score around ~42600 points in the same test.
    AMD-Ryzen-Threadripper-1950X-overclocked-4.1GHz.jpg
The Ryzen Threadripper 1950X is by far the most powerful desktop processor we have seen tested to date and once overclocked its performance jumps from the realm of very impressive to, there’s no better word for it, otherworldly. The embargo on Threadripper reviews goes up this upcoming Thursday and we can’t wait to see what else this chip can do."

I have a plan to build a threadripper machine,
What is the max and best memory speed for threadripper 1950x, can it go for 4200? if there is a reference for a complete recommended build, it will be appreciated.

That article quotes 3066mhz RAM, but as with the AMD Ryzen rollout it's likely we aren't going to see top RAM speeds yet. Buy as high of a speed DDR4 AMD spec memory you can find, and stay tuned to your motherboard BIOS update channel, and NBR.

Some Ryzen builds use 4200mhz DDR4 memory to get 3200mhz, so maybe that's a good strategy for ThreadRipper too.

First off wait for the better coolers. The present ones do not cover enough of the heat spreader. Blocks are coming designed for TR that should yeild better results. There is the one I linked too, but they are in China only right now.

What is nice, the Stepping 2 CCX will also be used in Epyc, and possibly the Pro chips, so hopefully the process maturing will allow for even better OC's shortly down the line. I doubt we will see the 4.5 GHz some OC enthusiasts wish for, at least not until 14nm+. In the end though a stable TR at 4.1 sounds nice though.

He's in their favor. He only spoke well of AMD TR while bashing AW. So he's fine. But with Dell blowback, likely had to use a different channel to point out what Dell did, otherwise they could lose AW pushing the TR when that OEM has the exclusive to the end of the year.
    Definitely! That is awesome!
Actually, certain boards have 3600-4266 to reach 3600 on their boards. Check QVL. Also, wait for info on IMC variance and support, both with 4 and 8 dimms.
This is actually B1 stepping, not Epyc B2 stepping. So, same silicon as Ryzen, just the cream! :)

Maybe we need to buy a Road roller toy so that the paste is evenly spread.

I may have to eat my words on Linus not being in the doghouse after the review. Evidently, HotHardware got an exclusive after that original review.

Also, this shows that clearly 3DMark HAS NOT optimized for Ryzen nor TR yet. You can tell it is a pure software issue as the score shouldn't be that low in comparison. Get to work 3DMark. Software companies are the problem now, not the CPU, and that is becoming more apparent by the day. **** lazy programmers!

Lmao! But seriously, 3DMark needs called out on this. There is obviously less hit in firestrike, but Time Spy shows they have not done anything to fix it. This is before addressing the bs gimping of cpu scores long ago to make notebooks look better.

We need to see 3DMark 11 physics scores.

Lol as a programmer why should I bother optimizing for something not used? I cannot blame the programmers just yet, let's wait for the optimizations.

Here's the thing, benchmark companies usually get early silicon to do optimizations. It also can take up to 3-6 months to finish optimizations. Most companies don't retest beyond launch. This also shows little optimization likely occurred for ryzen generally, which they have had since March to do. The lower scores with the same hardware happened for over 4 months until people from this forum made a video and showed them that it varied by benchmark version. With that being so fresh, I don't give them a pass. Game designers and other programmers I give more leeway as they may be working on it, not get hardware until released, or don't have a track record of not putting in effort or doing QA. Here, I give 3DMark no harbor as they don't move until forced by consumers.

Also, to be clear, the lower scores by benchmark version was with Intel and Nvidia hardware, discovered last August, then a video brought to their attention in November or December last year. 3DMark's official statement was they didn't know the GUI version was declining because they only tested the command line version which showed no drop.

The Ryzen part is to show how long they've had similar silicon, although they may need to work on NUMA node use of memory, the splitting of data, and cache usage here, moreso than with Ryzen. Now, if AMD didn't give them early silicon, they are foolish. So there may be blame for them as well. But as a said, 3DMark did nothing until pointed out, and as a benchmark company, QA and consistency between versions is what makes you credible.

Sent from my SM-G900P using Tapatalk

Edit: Also, it was told to them from August or so, they did nothing until the video in November or December. @Papusan can fill you in on that, as can @Mr. Fox who made the video.

That is what I heard as well, but when more data filled in with most news agencies, they said B1 stepping. So, we'll find out more on release, but I'm betting with the number of news agencies that reported B1 mid- to late-July, it is likely B1.

Go with an EVGA 1200W PSU. Stay away from Corsair's AXi series. So far, two have died on me and Corsair has long wait times for "repairs". Lucky for me, Amazon refunded me on one and the other I purchased through a member here, so I might be out of luck on it.

Buy a case that supports a good amount of fans (around 7+) if you're going to be OC'ing with an AIO. Those GPU's are going to be loud without some good air movement.

Other than that, the build looks really good.

If you noticed, on the picture, the carrier for the TR has blue tabs. Apparently so did the engineering sample of the AW that was replaced too in that other video.

The same is true of the Enermax cooler too, in the video there are blue tabs.

Complete list from Tom's HW about Who's Who in PSU, the article is updated every year. Anyway, this is the link http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/power-supply-oem-manufacturer,2913.html
Since you already have too many Nvidia GPUs, you might incline to Vega consumer or Vega FE prosumer card.
