I seem to recall some C400 FW versions were M4 compatible, but i'm not sure if it were for all or if the other way around was possible. I know for certain the mSATA firmware is a no no for the M4 and vice-versa.

I heard back from Micron support; I turns out that the 0909 firmware for the C400 is an HP specific firmware. Hp apparently writes their own firmwares for this SSD. It took me a while to finds the SSD on hp's site, because it isn't listed as a seperate part. After some time I managed to find a link to a newer firmware version here. I was able to update the firmware of the SSD with this utility.

Typical HP philosophy right there, they whitelist everything and make their own versions of most firmware/drivers. The still make good workstation class notebooks though.

Jeez! One more thing to keep an eye on.

Do you know if Lenovo does the whitelist thing with their notebook computers?

I mean, I expect my 2.5" Crucial M4 SSD (512GB size) to show up this week, so do I need to check with Crucial on if Lenovo re-writes the M4 firmware drivers for use in Lenovo computers?

I remember 15+ years ago when Dell made their mail-order desktops with modified parts so that the customers couldn't even maintain them by themselves, let alone be able to upgrade them.

I never again fully trusted Dell.

Mike Dell is one hard charger. There's a certain element of that here in the Dell forum, with the posting there by people that seem to work for Dell. But that can be a good thing in being able to get informed answers more quickly and accurately.

I just installed a new M4 128GB in my Dell XPS-L702x laptop as a OS drive, running Windows 8 Pro. This drive is lightening fast!. The M4 is running at the full 6GB/s SATA III speed. Boot time is less then 20 seconds! I use the existing HDD for storage now. I just wish I bought the bigger 256Gb rather than the 128. :D

    Hi Guys

I got my hands on a Dell branded Micron RealSSD 256gb 2.5-ich drive. I cannot for the life of me find firmware for this drive and I've asked several places. I cannot search dells download section as I dont have a service tag. If anyone can pretty please give me some advice on getting this firmware you would save my life :)

    Thanks

Try to search for the firmware version you have now and add 'updated to' in a google search.

    Good luck.

    (Proprietary hardware in 2013 sucks).
