Hi All,
Thanks for all of your inputs regarding whether we receive m4 with 0002 firmware or not.
I just have one more questions. I saw Crucial M4 SSD is NOT comming with 2.5" TO 3.5" ADAPTER. Is this adapter required to install in laptop. I have xps 15z laptop. I just want to know if I buy Crucial M4 SSD it self is enough or not.
Thanks

Just updated to firmware 0009 on my c400. Check out the ATTO scores. Must be a fluke or something. I bypassed 0002 and went straight to 0009.

It does have the 0002 firmware. I will install it tonight! cant' wait!! -
Possible to use 0009 firmware also for Crucial M4?
Client SSD - Solid State Storage - Micron Technology, Inc. (at bottom) -
But I wouldn't take a risk to flash a firmware which is not from Crucial, to avoid any issue.
I would wait from the official one. -
-
Beside, I just received my M4 and I still have to install it on my XPS... -
I checked Crucial M4 0002 firmware and Micron C400 0002 firmware include same files except SPLASH.LSS which are only logos as boot image:
So Crucial is just changing logo in firmware for so many days?Attached Files:

I updated firmware without any problem

This is my first SSD, so I am a noob at it, but should I install too the 0009 firmware?
Seems like everyone got a nice improvement in speed!
Good luck for the Hurricane, man, I hope it won't strike, have a lots of friends there..
EDIT: Firmware 0009 now officially available on the crucial website:

I'm cloning now and then ripping the bottom off and slapping it in with my new RAM. Hope it works.

Just installed the 0009 firmware! Speedy and easy to install!
Works great so far! -

Hey, I was wondering what's going on with my m4. I just got it a few days ago, and installed windows 7. After I ran a few benchmarks, I realized it wasn't performing as well as it should. It was also noticeable - applications load quickly, but not instantly like I've seen, and the startup is not nearly as fast as I've heard or seen in videos. On a whim, I tried this tweak:
http://forum.notebookreview.com/sol...-series-4-5-965-chipsets-stamatisx-tweak.html
But I didn't expect it to make a difference; after all, I'm running a core 2 duo, and not a core i3/5/7, so I shouldn't even need it. But it did, and after i rebooted the benchmarks were up to what they should've been! Sadly, this didn't fix the slow (compared to others) boot, and I lost quite a bit of battery life due to the fan running all the time.
So, I'd like to ask: Did I do something wrong? Why is the m4 acting slow? -
I am seriously thinking of getting the M4 256gb. Seems like a great drive and a decent value.
-
-
Agreed. I haven't had one issue with my drive, I love it.
-
Hi Guys,
I have ordered a crucial M4 256gb.
I have a dell xps 15. I want to perform a clean install on this ssd.
My question is how do i do a clean install on crucial M4.
Just like a normal clean install or do I need to make any changes in the controller settings or anything of that sort?
Also about the firmware update, do I do it before installing windows or after? -
Does the m4 comes with a caddy like the Intel 320 series?
I'm thinking of buying the crucial m4 but I need a 2nd hard drive caddy so I can move over the 750GB drive that my Envy 17 3D came with.... -
-
-
Different notebook requires different caddy for the drive bay. My XPS 17's caddy is more expensive than the HDD. Taught me something, should buy the second drive at the time of purchase then sold the drive to get the caddy !
-
-
Mine was the prior gen (P8700 using DDR2) bought when it was on clearance.
-
-
Wow, 128 GB M4 for $169.99.
Prices are coming down. I need another SSD like I need a hole in the head but at that price I will figure out something to do with it.
I suppose I see a RAID array in the future on my desktop. -
Hi all...
I need an advise.
I have a M4 Crucial SSD disk with 64GB and 8GB of ram installed on my GT680 notebook with the Win7 x64 (on the second SATA port I have a Seagate Momentus 500GB).
The question is how the page file should be configured. If I let the windows manage the page file then it takes 8GB of space on my SSD (it's quite a big size for a 64GB disk). I know that the best way is to let windows manage all the stuff but I wonder if there's a solution for that and by that I mean the size and location of page file.
Regards! -
-
Manually set the page file size to whatever you want, can be all the way down to 0. It is very unlikely with 8GB you would ever need page file(unless you have a very unstable system and you want full memory dump and want to analyse it or send it to Microsoft). Actual usage will tell.
I would not recommend move the page file to HDD(even you have one) as the access pattern of page file LOVE SSD. Moving it to HDD is like buying a Ferrari then tow a trailer in the back just in case you need to buy some furniture from Ikea. -
I put 0 and none of the tested programs returned an error so far. I think I'm gonna stay with 0.
Thanks for your replays. -
New firmware 009 makes the Crucial M4 the fastest SSD.

Nice info Phil, although I didn't bother translating the page. Looks like some fairly real-world scenario tests being run there, which had the M4 near the top to begin with, but now indisputably tops, at least on that set of tests. It is indeed a fantastic drive.

i just ordered this M4 SSD.will be 1 week before i got this drive.. i need information about the power consumption... could anyone provide this? in default mode windows 7
-
the power consumption is listed: here.
-
i see, but that's on benchmark, and it sure pull alot of power. cos it is pushing your drive to the limit... how about normal usage? i mean when you are using your drive... how it is different to mechanical drive? do laptop battery life improve?
-
Well, in the first graph there is the idle power consumption and it's around 0,66W (belive me, it's a small power consumption).
On normal usage I read somewhere in the Crucial statemate that it's around 1,5W but I belive it's less then that.
If you compare it to a normal HDD then the difference is very big due to the fact that SSD doesn't have any movable parts such as motor. -
The power draw is minor, I have seen no real decrease in battery life since adding the M4 to my system, and I now have an SSD AND a mechanical 7200 RPM drive, granted the mechanical isn't being operated too frequently.

My Raid 0 64GB results:
-
Well, the read seq and 512k score is pdg. Twice the normal for seq. That's the power of Raid 0 I guess.
-
Why even in RAID 0 the 4K is so low? -
-
Sequential speeds are not useless.
Real world speed is influenced by both random speeds and sequential speeds.
