Hello! I want to upgrade my Acer Aspire 5920G the same way. Could you, please, answer my questions? What type of wires fit? As I can see from your pictures, you use UTP cable wires - 1 pair of wires. Am I right? If I'm wrong which diameter of wire should I use?

On the second picture you use some kind of glue. What is it? And why do you glue in 4 places if there are only 2 wires?

Some really thin wires, don't remember exactly where I got them. Get ones that don't take much space, so you can insert the CPU with little effort.

I've used Kapton tape. The 3rd and 4th place are for leveling the CPU, otherwise it would sit at an angle, so it wont make good contact with the heat-sink.

Wow! What a great speed answer! :D Thanks. I'll keep that in mind. And what do you think about setting up wires on cyanoacrylate glue in angles? I mean angles, where wires turn 90 degrees - to glue them in order to prevent their movement, when CPU's legs begin pushing wires into the socket.
I thought about this. I could try to make small groove for wire, so it won't get out of that groove and touch other CPU legs.

I don't really understand how CPU work. If I will short wrong legs with the wire it burns out or it don't work for a little time?

I glue sounds a bit permanent and messy. If it gets inside the socket - new MoBo, if you decide to downgrade and sell the parts - new MoBo (because you can't remove the wires). Ordinary tape would as well, if you don't have Kapton.

Those sockets are really fragile, so you have to be extra careful.

It just wont boot and if the wire moves while running your lappy, it would blue-screen or shut down immediately. Both of those occurred to me while I was testing the setup. If you are lucky you might get an explosion :p

I decided to solder apropriate processor's legs with wires. I found out where they come out on moterboard. But before soldering I tried to start new processor. When my notebook starts, it's monitor don't work. If I install an old processor, it works fine.

Is it normal, that without shorten legs display is switched off?

Are you sure you soldered the right pins? Also does it boot at all, or lights are flashing, or something like that? If there's a short, it's normal to not boot, not even post (no picture). That's why such permanent solutions are to be avoided. I hope you'll be able to fix it.

You understood me wrong. I found, but not soldered yet. Before soldering I tried to start this new x9100 CPU as is - without shorten legs. But when notebook starts, monitor don't start.

Well, if it is normal for x9100 not to start without shorten legs, that's OK. If not, I will try to change CPU.

    1. I've changed my CMOS battery with a new one - no result.
    2. I've took out some parts and tried to start computer with a few parts in order to reduce power consumption: moterboard, processor, monitor, 1 RAM module, VGA card and CPU fan - no result.
    3. I've changed more powerful power supply 90W -> 120W. No result.
    4. I've tried other RAM modules - no result.
When I get back to my old CPU, notebook starts fine.

My friend says there is indicator of postcodes. It can show, what's the problem. Well... maybe... :-( What do you think about that? Do you use it in your practise?

If you have any other ideas, please, help me.

I tried to solder A20, B23, AE3 and AF9 on motherboard. There are my photos with testing. But there is no result. :-( I'm making a return of this X9100 CPU. By the way, I soldered wires with opportunity to cut them. When I install my old T7700 CPU I just disconnect the wires, and it works.

Hi everyone, I'm trying to downclock a t9800 from 1066 to 800. But I can't find no diagrams, photos or anything resembling what I'm looking for. Everything for overclocking, but not downclocking.

The very first post images are not shown due to ImageShack place holder. So, if someone can direct me to a diagram or chart or picture explaining the procedure, I would greatly appreciate it.

You should make a jumper between A20 & B23 and AE3 & AF9. Here is my photo of these pins, when I tried to find them on my motherboard.

You can view triturbo's post, where he gives his photos of jumpers, installed in socket.

    Hi naton,
Only four+ years after your successful CPU change I'd like to replace my T9300 CPU for a T9900 on my old Dell XPS M1730 (Intel PM965 chipset). I already got the CPU sitting here. My first switch-over led to a non-booting system, i.e. ZERO response on power up. The CPU was supposedly tested and works, so I suspect that my A10 Bios is the issue here. I will update the BIOS again to A11 (the latest version available from Dell) even though the fan tables were driving me nuts.

From what I read in posts from you and others here, the switch should be possible and not too difficult (providing the CPU works). However, all photos referred to showing the details of the BSEL mod have been filled with placeholders and are not visible anymore.

    My questions to you:

    1) Is there a newer (/better) BIOS available for my system than the A11 supplied by Dell?
    2) Where can I find photos showing details of the BSEL Mod on a Socket P?
    3) Are there Step-by-Step Instructions for the whole process somewhere?

    Thank you for your time.

    Cheers,
    Michael

Ok, so I need to put T9900 (1066 FSB) in a Dell D630 with A19 BIOS, PM965 Chipset. I udenrstand it would only work with BSEL 800Mhz wire mod, as indicated in the firts post. Trouble is, none of the pictures are visible....and I can't see what exactly do i need to do, nor can I find them them on the net. Everyone talks about it, but since these are usually older threads, all the pics ar eusually espired links. Can anyone help me, please? Pictures with explanations are preferable, as some of these pics arent self-explanatory....like for example i have seen some that do not show the extact socket hole positions in regards to the whole P socket orientation, some show bare wires, some are taped....I am confused...

The one I've posted (on the previous page) has the whole socket and a red rectangle on it. That's pretty self-explanatory if you ask me.

Thank you, Triturbo, So I understand I ONLY need one wire as indicated by the red rectangle....what is the other jumper for?

Another question, since the T9900 will run at 2.3 Ghz as a result of BSEL downclocking, will it be still faster than T9500 on a 800Mhz system?

Lower voltage, but it didn't run smoothly, so I removed it and lowered the voltage through software, although a bit limited.

Nah, probably slower. You are removing the benefit of the faster bus, so clock for clock they would be the same and since the T9500 is running @2.6GHz, you'll be behind some 300MHz. The positive is that you can undervolt it a lot more, since better silicon is used. Then again, the software undervolting is limited, so you might want to give that other wire a go.

It is worth it if your machine is capable to clock back up. If you can FSB overclock, then you are good to go. Then comes the question how far you can go with the RAM you have.

Hello, I am looking to pin mod the motherboard on my dragon pc so it will accept an intel x9100 processor. I have heard a lot of talk about the possibility of clocking down fsb, but the instructions aren't so clear, perhaps because the pictures are no longer available. Can you explain to me how and which pins much be insulated? I plan to use 30 gauge copper wire and regular tape to connect the two socket connections on the motherboard, but I don't know which pins need to be insulated on the cpu.

    Please reply soon, thanks!

However you use the word "Isolation" to mean the same as with the original mod on page 1 and the Quad mod you did. This is why I ask for a picture. Did you connect AA7, BR1# to VSS at Y6??

I'm going to try the mod as best I can soon.

I don't think this is off topic for you to post here, as in the 1st post it says "this mod concerns qx9300" :D[/QUOTE]

Hello, I'm sorry to bump in such an old thread, but I want to share my story. This BSEL mod works on my Sony Vaio. My model is VGN-CR520E (PCG-5L2L): chipset Intel GM965, modded with a P9700, FSB from 1066 -> 800MHZ, then overclocked to 2.4GHZ with setFSB ( http://www13.plala.or.jp/setfsb/ , you can tick Ultra for more overclock). Here is the picture of the mod I did: [IMG]
My Ram also overclocked to ~770MHZ (default is 667MHZ). Hope you enjoy :)

    Hello together,

sorry for this old post, but i have a question.
I bought an Intel CPU x9100 for an Acer aspire 5920g.(Original is T7700) I read it here that it should work for this model.
Is there any bios update necessary ? I have only a black screen and it would not boot up.

    My actually bios:
    Modded by Gradius
    Manufacturer: Acer
    Model: Aspire 5920
    BIOS: PHOENIX
    BIOS: 3.811
    SLIC: Acer SLIC 2.1
    CERT: Acer CERT 2.1 (included)
Method: PBE + Ultraedit + custom manual
Untested but it should works just fine, since the mod is the same as my 5670 (tested & working).

    http://www.mediafire.com/download.php?zumwzyrdyrz

    Many thanks in advance

Tell me please, what am I doing wrong?
    Acer 7720G, PM965, T7500, the original BIOS.
I made BSEL MOD (T7500 on X9100 "C0") from the photo. The multiplier is locked at a frequency of X6.0.
    TrottleStop did not help
The legs of the CPU did not shorten

Hello, Im new here. I wanna ask some question.. pls help

What if GL40 (667 Mhz) using T7300/T9300 (800Mhz) without MOD? Is it work?

What is a gold mark in that socket? Is it necessary?
Are you just make pin mod only to make it work with X9100?
    I'm still new here.. :)

Can X9100 run as stock speed 3Ghz? or Will it's speed decrease?
Is it worth it if I buy X9100 than X9000?
    many thanks before :)

The X9100 is currently running with 2,3 Ghz,(before with T7700 2,4 Ghz) but i will do the PLL mod next time.
At moment i am very busy, and have no time to make it. But i feel it is faster because of the 6mb L2 cache....... I think.
I have to continue reading how it works for my acer 5920g. set fsb is not possible to change without this mod :(
There are different options of this PLL mod i read.....

If it's X9100 then what's the point messing with FSB if You can just overclock it with the multiplier using e.g ThrottleStop.
