    This thread is the new "How much RAM do you have thread" - the previous one only went up to 2GB, and with RAM prices falling and capacities/needs going up, it's time to get a more accurate reading of what people have. :)

    Edit: the "Between 512MB and 1GB (excluding)" option is for users with 640MB, 768MB, etc, same goes for the 1.5 - 2GB option and 2GB - 3GB option.

    Can I vote more than once? I've currently got one notebook @ 3GB and another at 1.25GB. And maybe within a few days I'll have another one with 2GB on board. And should I also include the old notebook on the shelf which only has 128MB? It still works.

    So, if this is like the other polls and I am stuck with one vote, which one?

    I am still currently using a notebook with 256mb of ram. :)

    I should really get a new notebook or at least upgrade to 512mb ;)

    2GB. Have had that in my desktop for 4 years now, guess I'm ahead of the masses. :)

    Still, even with my video editing and programming, 2GB is sufficient. I can have numerous big programs open and it dips into swap only a little.

    My next computer may well have 4GB, but that's probably a year away.

    I "borrowed" the 2gb chip from the N200 for a night to see what it would be like going from 1gb to 3gb, and I didnt really notice much if any jump in speed. Disk activity was normal, and the only real change was an increase in power consumed of about .4 watts.

    Well, I only noticed it during bootup, it took a good 5-6 seconds off, and when I photoshop 4000x7000 images, then resizing it to 900x1400 :p Which I do pretty often, so it helps :)

    The new XPS M1210 has 2 GB

    The old Inspiron 4000 has 512 MB, which seems to run Windows 2000 just fine

    Had to choose, so I answered 2 GB in the poll

    512mb but i guess something is taking like 2/3 mem some how...
    so basically everytime i run something the available ram is 125 to 256.. i play games with that as well... also i would like to upgrade to 2gb... but seems like ddr rams are not falling down... i should have gone with core duo that time... ㅜ,ㅜ

    just went from 1gb to 2GB recently. Haven't noticed any huge improvements besides small increase in 3D benchmarking.

    seeing that many have 2Gbs nowadays and the fact is evident from the poll

    If you're running a 32bit OS, or even on the 945PM chipset, aim for about 3GB. Because of the way that the 32bit address space is allocated, and from older computers that didn't even think about 4GB of RAM, your video memory and so on is placed in "upper memory", or at the high end of the 4GB of addresses you have available in a 32bit system. So if you have a 512MB video card, you really would only be able to see 3.5GB of memory in the absolute best case. Some of those addresses are also used for DMA transfers, etc., so you'll have even less.

    I think with the recent low ram prices, everyone who runs anything more intense than word processing ran out to buy a few extra sticks for all their computers.

    This is reflected in the poll apparently. 2gb seems like the norm now. =)

    Thought about upgrading to 2gb, but the only programs that would need it is FEAR and Oblivion (still not started a game on Oblivion though :p). Other than that, I have never come close to using up all my ram so atm I am saving my money for other things

    I had 512MB stock on my notebook, I bought an overpriced 1GB stick ($170ish at Best Buy...big mistake, before I knew of Newegg) and stuck it in with one of the stock 256MB sticks. I didn't notice a big performance increase, and I eventually just took out the 256 stick and plan to sell the stock sticks someday.

    no, readyboost only caches the paging file and nothing else. you can't consider it as an additional 1GB of ram.
