ok..tried again...it's my puter this time!..

I recently started playing around with ThrottleStop with my QX9300. I notice that when I unlock the multiplier and adjust it upwards TS reports the new speed/MP. However, as I run Prime it reverts back to its default max multiplier.. Consequently stopping Prime reverts it back to the OC'ed speed.
Any idea on what is wrong? I did adjust my power profile to to set minimum power state to 100%.
Also, what is exactly the procedure to follow: 1. click "Turn on", 2. Click "Unlock", 3. set multiplier and VID - Is this correct?
And in addition to that, is the "unlocked" multiplier being saved and automatically reloaded if I schedule TS to start automatically on user logon? Or do I need to manually unlock it again? -
This may not be the right thread for this but ill go ahead and ask anyways:
Anyone have success enabling 12x fulltime on the Asus G50vt series laptop with a t9900??? I realise that EIST has to be disabled first but theres no bios option for this. The workaround is to modify the bios but all the work there seems to be focused on a bios type that Asus does not use. Am I all alone if I attempt this modification and is this my only option for fulltime dual 12x ? -
sell the T9900 and buy a X9100. Overclock with ThrottleStop.
-
I dont believe you understood my post correctly, but I will digress and offer you a response. My GPU is highly overclocked and Id rather not introduce anymore heat into my system. The x9100 is rated at a higher TDP and potentially allows higher voltages, both of which are not in my interest. This Asus G50vt motherboard and ram reaches FSB speeds of 318 where even .5 multiplier can give me an additional 159MHz ontop of 3657MHz, potentially allowing for up to 3816MHz, at which point -like i mentioned- heat would be my limiting factor.
-
I think I understand completely.
I had a ASUS G71Gx and the FSB was also overclockable with "Turbogear", I think you do this with "Power4Gear Hybrid", and a BIOS setting.
But this didn't work with a T9900 I put in. This BIOS setting option didn't support the T9900. Overclock with SetFSB was possible. But not as much as with the original T9600.
Luckily I could return the notebook as it had a problem with USB.
In my current HP 8530w, also a 15,4" notebook, I had also a T9900 with 35W TDP and activated DualIDA and used ThrottleStop to enable it.
I changed for a X9100 with 44W TDP and have the same or even better temps as with the T9900.
And I overclock both CPU and GPU extremely, look at my signature.
I sold the T9900 for 200 Euro and bought the X9100 ES QHBQ for 145 Euro. -
OK, I see your point now. I was going off the assumption that the x9100 was a more expensive CPU.
Im overclocking with just setfsb and was a bit concerned when my t9900 couldn't support the same FSB speeds as my old p7450, meaning my ram is running a tad slower. Either way, this t9900 is still going to crash at the same final clock with 12x or 11.5x multiplier so i may as well just push my fsb as far as it'll go with the lower multiplicator.
so, carry on with the Core2 extreme discussions.... -
Ok guys after 66 pages of info it all comes down to this. the final choice i am going to make but 1 need some input before buying, which CPU is the best overall between Q9100 ES or X9100 QS. I have the gateway P-7803h which is similar spec to P-7805u, looking to upgrade the CPU so advice would be nice thanks all. Q9100 ES is a quad core so its better no ? i am just debating to myself again on what to get help please.Actually just throw out some suggestions there are like X9100,X9100 QS,Q9100, Q9100 ES Thanks. Sorry for the bad english.

You can not upgrade the P78 to quad core period. Only original quad equiped P-78xx's can use other than C2D's. You are best off with the x9100.............
Edit; for P78xx specific questions visit the gateway forum. We owners are fewer and further between anymore.................. -
Thanks for the heads-up i ll go with X9100, anyone here know where i can get one for cheap from a user here or something. I checked on Ebay and the lowest i have seen is 178.50 shipped to Canada.

My X9100 C0/E0 temperature comparison. See "HWiNFO32"!

My determined minimum voltage values for meaningful frequencies
Since you come from Germany, perhaps we talk sometime. Merry Christmas to all.
EDIT: Since everything on "PM965" here's another info.
EDIT 2: my Socket Mod -
So I have a question, I disabled speedstep in my bios and have the multiplier set to 9.5 but it only shows up as 9.0? How do i get it to show 9.5? I also have the cpu setting in power management to 100% for all.
-
Based on the temps, I'd prefer to get an E0 step.
Only problem is that I cannot find any on ebay. They are all C0 stepping.. -

Do Engineering Sample CPU's tend to OC less well? I just got a "QS" Engineering Sample X9100 from eBay... Can't wait to try this.

First of all - thank you, unclewebb and naton
Here's my new monster
All of the tests are on top of my E1 cooler, it was switched on only for the 3,8GHz run.
The power consumption was incredible, but I don't remember corresponding value/clocks, I do remember that it hit 118W at some point
Here's how I managed to run it.
Benchmarks aside I'm able to play GTA IV: Episodes From Liberty City @3,6GHz without a problem and it hits 80ºC and 103W power draw. -
Sorry, old thread, but discovering it now.
@triturbo, the VID voltage range for your X9100 is 1.05-1.2625V according to intel site. You are well above this top value to power your CPU. I know others did the same, but is it safe for the CPU?
Thank you -
I've read here and there, and 1,450v is the absolute max you should ever push it. How safe it is, I don't know, but some are running it @1,3+v for 24/7 no problems. It's one of those chip-to-chip thing.

HI people I recently upgraded my Aspire 8930G with a 3.06Ghz X9100 from a 2GHz T6400. The issues i have so far
are that at stock speed my dolphin emulator still runs slow as before.
Secondly sometimes the frequency drops to 1.3Ghz what could be causing this drop off? The temprature
remains below 50 degrees so its not overheating. See picture below
So far I have tried a little overclocking with throttlestop but my games have not improved even slightly.
If anyone has any suggestions on where the problem might be i will be grateful.
Also if i upgrade my RAM to 1300Mhz will that help my gaming experinece? Thanks
My stats with CPU-Z are as follows:

Hi @m6874h,
Could you please elaborate on the power setting.
Where do i find the high performance power setting? Thanks
Hi AESdecrypton,
I am running the Dolphin Emulator(a gamecube and Wii emulator for PC) My graphics card
is a 2GB Nvidia Geforce 9600M. It is tweaked to run dual core processors. -
Make sure you post back and maybe pm me as I would like to know if this works for you.

Thanks for the tutorial I am running on high performance mode.
Is that fine or should i change it? -
Hi guys,
I just received my 1333mhz 8GB RAM from amazon however when i install and run the
laptop switches on but the remains blanks. Any ideas what is wrong or is the ram speed
more than the motherboard can handle. -
Hi guys,

First of all i would like to say thank you to the creators of throttlestop, i was able to extend the usable life of this 3 year old laptop which i was able to buy just a few months ago. I got an OEM qx9300 for my sager np8662, i am able to run it at 14x multiplier or 3.72 ghz @1.3375 vid, but when i do cinebench cpu render benchmark, my laptop powers off completely. Even at 3.66 ghz this happens. I suspect my power supply is probably insufficient, could this be correct? temperature wise, a complete run wouldn't be feasible because it would shoot up to 100 C in an instant. But when i do content creation, it's entirely stable, no blue screens, no shut downs, high but tolerable temps as long as i don't use up all 4 cores 100% for 10 seconds. Is there a workaround for this? when i lower my vid to 1.325 it starts to blue screen already.

This is a great tool to use! Thanks to the creators!
