Thanks to those that have posted updates much appreciated, encouraging to see the 1.5 year to 2 year reports with little change but we need a larger sample size to be confident of the trend.

I would not expect in to see the catastrophic failures as noted in the first test round on this forum where some of the stock white compounds had degraded temps of 10 to 30 C.

I would, but my crappy overheating notebook is being replaced with a new one, which, coincidentally, already uses IC diamond. So... can't. Also, my overheating notebook is being held together by duct tape, so it isn't really a good test subject to begin with.

Was the first round using IC 24? Did you change the formulation?

Icd 7 and 24 only differs on the amount of paste in the tube.

no formula change I was noting the white generic comparison stock pastes that had experienced rather spectacular failures, a couple were + 30 C

I bought some ICD 7 before this thread was made and I just wanted to post my results. Sadly, I don't have a good before screenshot, but my average was 40*C Idle (30 mins w/ only firefox minimzed)/75*C loaded on stock HP goo applied in early 2009 and undervolted to 1.075,

Now (ICD7), after 2 hours w/ 2 threads of orthos and 1.075 undervolt:
    Untitled.jpg

ETA: The laptop was in on warranty for a new base enclosure (VLCM, Salt Lake City) and I asked them to use my tube of ICD 7 instead of the HP compound. That way I keep my warranty but could stil open it up and reapply ICD7 w/o arousing suspicion  . But in typical HP-certified fashion, they put tons on as can be seen here. The gfx card was running about ~2*C higher at idle than before. Any reason for this? I re-applied correctly before running this test and it's still hotter. Could it just be because the BIOS is sensing lower cpu temps and isn't running the fan as much? (CPU and GPU share a heatpipe)

    Hi,

I emailed support yesterday regarding the giveaway. What would you say is the expected delivery date of the sample (if we qualify)?

Thank you! I'm really looking forward to a repaste cuz it's getting hotter down here in SoCal.

I have applied ICD24 today and these are the results before and after applying(after running Orthos for 10mins)
I found it easier to apply, first applied a small amount and put the heatsink back and tightened the screws, then removed and checked the die and the heatsink to see how the compound had spread, cleaned them again and put the right amount of ICD24 and let the heatsink spread it for me. For laptops the size of a grain of rice is all you need.

I'm in the same boat as you man. When i subscribed, they hadn't started the strike yet and it's uncertain whether we'll ever see the tube due to the strike. It will depend on when the tube makes it to customs and if it can get through. I can't find ICD at NCIX either and i can't find another place to order from in Canada.

ummmmmmm I have a problem. My EC temp sensor is fine most the time........... until it spikes to 146 degrees Celsius, which I know is impossible. All I can say is that the actual max temp I saw under load was 58 degrees Celsius on a monstrously inefficient and hot Core 2 Quad, which is a HUGE improvement over AS5 which used to routinely get to 75 C

overclocked to 3.0 ghz, under full load on all for cores, it only gets to 72 degrees Celsius

Dang, still haven't received anything in the mail yet. I wonder, do they go and make sure you're an NBR member and cross-reference with your email or something? Cuz my email doesn't have the same name as this account, nor did I put in my NBR account name (forgot).

I have been traveling all week and neglecting the thread here but mailings have continued in my absence.

For Canada people it's in the mail and at some point I assume they will resolve the strike.

Over the next few days I will organize the results into a spreadsheet that will be updated as updates are added.

Much appreciation for those who have taken the time to update and post data, thanks.

Just finished putting this on the i5-2540m in my Thinkpad T420 with integrated graphics.
Ran Prime95 and recorded max temps at 86 C for the CPU.
Ignore the GPU temps in the screen shot, AIDA64 recorded that from my external GTX 460.

Edit: Idle temps pretty much the same, low 40s.

I think I did it about midway through February... at first the temps were better then stock... then about a few weeks before I got my desktop the temps were getting higher then normal... same thing happened in my friends laptop (studio xps 1647 i think...one with the i5 refresh)

and even my gpu idle went down.... damn.... I think my laptop was getting to hot is the reason why I was getting studdering in games

Pre -- Idling at 92C and it's pretty much holding there.

    Time to apply.

edit: Post-IC is idling at 88. That's pretty significant imo.

You could say that. The problem lies with the fact that Canada Post is essentially a governmental agency. The staff went on a rotating strike, which slowed things somewhat then the management went into lock out essentially paralyzing the service. After that if the conflict wasn't resolved it was only a matter of time before the gov went with a special law since all negotiations stopped.

I won't go into the political discussion, against the forum rules if i recall, but yeah, Canada Post's staff ended up getting pwned in the end. Well, at least we'll get our paste, getting ICD in Canada is a pain. I did find a replacement store for NCIX since they don't have it in stock, but i'll have to order it from BC, i'm in Québec which means that it's at the other end of the country. If i order, it's still gonna take a week to arrive.
