I applied IC24 on my M17x on the 25th of June. one week later i am noticing MUCH higher temps, as in +7 degrees C on idle! what's going on IC Diamond? I put a pea sized bit and used the heatsink to spread it!

Hard to tele troubleshoot problems can only guess -

Ambient room temp is +7 C higher?

    Heat sink is loose?

Fan flow blocked or fan is failing?

Preliminary - Any errors or corrections let me know.

When given a group of tests I select the higher stress numbers as it provides more resolution for the test.

Multiple numbers or a range of numbers are averaged to reduce it to one number.

Please note the ambient room temperature - If your room temp is 5 C higher or lower your CPU temp will be 5 C higher or lower. Take your room temp at the time you take your other temp readings.

Dust will build up in the systems overtime and impact temps so blow it out or clean before taking long term check point readings.

GPU's results will be posted separately in a couple of days

Andrew, of course I'll give you updates!. This thermal compound is a miracle! I only use IC Diamond now :D. I've repasted sooo many laptops that I can't even remember how many and bought several tubes :D.

I remember I made a presentation about thermal pastes in my university for my thermodynamics class 2 years ago using a MSI GX620, I still have the documents. I made several comparisons with some other thermal pastes. I'll send you the files if you wish. The file is in spanish but I can translate it if you wish.

Just applied it like 2 hours ago. Let the laptop idle for an hour and loaded up starcraft 2.

    https://picasaweb.google.com/107242...&authkey=Gv1sRgCM-Hjv6Dkd_JCw&feat=directlink

Here are photos of the entire process and a comparison of my MX-4 paste application which was 6 months old. Temps were great at start but under load started degrading. I don't have a load pic of MX-4 I forgot to take one but gpu was at 73 - 75. cpu 73 - 78. Temps are so much better on IC diamond. Now i just hope it doesn't degrade like the MX-4.

To note. Ambient temp = 22c

IC Diamond made a huge difference on my temps. I pushed everything as hard as I could prior to IC Diamond and the laptop got throttled. After applying it, no throttling.

    Measurements in Celsius.

    Prior to IC

    cpu load- 66
    GPU #1 Idle- 55
    GPU #2 Idle- 45

    With IC Diamond

    GPU #1 Idle- 35
    GPU #2 Idle- 34
    GPU #1 Load- 80

I thought I posted a screenshot after I pasted but I did another one to get a more realistic value; this was after playing Left 4 Dead 2 for about an hour.

    Ambient was 27c.

Thanks for the 25 -26 month updates I can begin to draw some curves

also anybody who has not repasted their system interested in doing a short contact and pressure test on their CPU? see link below - I can send the paper out Monday.

I just received my paste and applied it today, but I did not see the call for pressure testing subjects, so sorry :(

Anyway, here are the results. Ambient temp is about 26 degs. Screengrabs below are for the stock compound that came with my 3820TG.

    With stock compound, idle
    [IMG]

    With stock compound, wPrime
    [IMG]

    With stock compound, 3DMark06
    [IMG]

As seen, the stock compounds do exceedingly poorly. In fact, the CPU actually throttles while running wPrime and 3DMark06 multiple times because it hits 99 degs very often. Here's the temps with IC Diamond.

    With IC Diamond, idle
    [IMG]

    With IC Diamond, wPrime
    [IMG]

    With IC Diamond, 3DMark06
    [IMG]

As seen, the temps take a rather large drop, not even hitting 90 degs during any of the tests. Thumbs up for IC Diamond :)

(so much for the 3820TG's dual fan design when they give crappy compound...)

I don't know if I'm being a baby, but it sounds like a lot of cleaning between repastes. Do you have any cleaning solution? Maybe its not a big deal, I just don't want to spend 3 hours on a repaste job.

I got your tube of IC diamond, I'll be posting first results after my new cpu arrives. Thanks so much. Let me know about the cleaning and reapplying IC diamond, most people say it takes some dedication to make your parts shine before reapplication.

If its an easy job, I'll volunteer for your new tests. BTW, I like your business model, cater to enthusiasts, collect data, then prove your product is the best for the rest. Its unusual, I really think its a nice reach out to us modders.

Use isopropyl alcohol, the higher the concentration the better to clean off the old grease. If it's a new cpu, I don't think any cleaning is necessary, just make sure there isn't any dust on the chip when you apply the paste.

Cleaning takes 5 mins at most. It might sound like a time consuming job, but it really isn't. 5 mins is for really dry and bakes paste. Removing newly applied paste takes even less time.

One quick question, do you prefer if i post the temperatures themselves or the difference between the components and ambient?

I did not read through the whole thread: Are there any Macbook Pro 2011 i7 Quad users participating?

These things reach 90-100°C in seconds with all fans flying and even idle you hardly get lower than 60°C (fans turned down).

Here's updated temps of my Gateway M6850FX. I applied the ICD7 paste two years ago on the CPU, GPU and chipset during the first free giveaway. I cleaned the laptop every three months with compressed air.

    The temperature on idle
    .....................Stock TIM.....2yrs Ago ICD7............Now ICD7
    ACPI...............53C..............53C...........................53C
    CPU core#0.....31C..............30C...........................36C
    CPU core#1.....24C..............24C...........................29C
    GPU................54C..............53C...........................55C

The temperatures under the load running Orthos Prime for 75 minutes
    .....................Stock TIM......2yrs Ago ICD7............Now ICD7
    ACPI...............83-86C...........79-80C.....................92-93C
    CPU core#0......69-75C...........62-64C.....................82-84C
    CPU core#1......61-69C...........57-58C.....................74-75C
    GPU.................65-69C...........59-62C.....................68-70C

I will keep the paste as is and continue using laptop and monitor the temps.

Finally home from my two week vacation.
    Guess what i found?

A orange brownish envelope with some IC Diamond.
I will do a repaste as soon as i measured my temps on stock. :D

    Thanks for the paste.

    Edit:
Did my testing inside my cool basement at nighttime.
Ambient temp was probably around 24c to 26c.

Did three runs, all while forcing the internal fans to 100%.
No notebook cooler or other cooling tech was used.

    Stock paste idle temps.
