that's pretty impressive to be honest. I'm concerned about temps tho, seing that some manufators can't even handle kaby lake, how are they gonna handle kaby lake with 2 more cores on them :x

Anyway, this looks like it will be better for content creation, since gaming still seems to favour higher clock speeds. I agree with @Danishblunt - temperatures will have to be carefully managed, since the cooling solutions in most laptops are crap.

Once DX12 becomes mainstream I doubt the CPU will matter in gaming at all.hmscott likes this. -
Can you run your 6700hq chips max loaded +45w 24/7/365 ?
And why should a still fully locked down 45w chips now with even bigger Die due 50% more cores, run into more heat problems than same TDP locked down 7700Hq? Yeah, I undestand.
I see some here defend the bigger jump down in bin (clocks) vs. the desktop chips. Oh'well

6700HQ hardly pulls more than 30W, don't know what the cause is? -

Intel would never do that. They will milk consumers till the end.

More as... You will get TRIPOD in all form and shapes. It's BGA as you can see. If this can be called socket... Bigger Intel package means less space on MB for the 4th leg

I am still interested in how slicing up the power budget on power limited and unlimited H 4c/8t CPU's already not reaching 45w (7700HQ/6700HQ) will perform with 6c/12t slicing up the 45w.

@Papusan @Phoenix
Check this links out https://www.techpowerup.com/239153/intel-extends-the-core-i9-brand-to-the-mobile-platform
@Papusan Maybe your kids want an core i9 BGA? Atleast TDP shoould be bumped to 65W. Hell, my dead desktop chip with stock intel cooler never went over 50C on OC'ing.
I used Gugabyte easytune and at that time I didn't have internet in my home so only had gigabyte apps for my board G31 Chipset with E5500 CPU. Easy tune reported 20GHz core speeds and 4GHz RAM speed, only had GTA Vice city and stock CPU paste and it was freaking fast. Maybe it was clocking 4GHz instead of 20GHz due to a bug maybe??
Mr. Phoenix needs an BGA upgrade since he upgrades his PC every year. 6 cores/12 threads Or maybe he will move to Ryzen laptops??? -

Why the F would intel still limit a so-called i9 to 45watt?that too at 6 core!? If anyone puts these cpus in their laptops and dosentprovide an option in bios to change ec setting, and tdp mod the cpu, then no one is going to buy this big pile of crap!
-
You need 65-75W watts for optimum power delivery and OC on BGA. I think Prema will get a working BIOS for it as well.wyvernV2 likes this. -
