that's pretty impressive to be honest. I'm concerned about temps tho, seing that some manufators can't even handle kaby lake, how are they gonna handle kaby lake with 2 more cores on them :x

Barely 2.9/3.0GHz on all 6 cores. A good step down from the predecessor [email protected] all 4 cores. Mind you... Stock 8700K run only 1 bin lower vs. 7700K with all cores. Nice

Yeah 6 cores @ 2.9-3.0ghz won't be any faster than 4 cores @ 3.4ghz, nice to see you still hate on all the new intel mobile CPU's, got anything else better to do. .Vasudev likes this.
-
I'm not hating on them? I like the extra cores, just concerned about the temps...Vasudev likes this.

It will pull more power, with more temps you can cook food if the temps are always 110C on stock paste and heatsink.

I think he was referring to @Papusan
Anyway, this looks like it will be better for content creation, since gaming still seems to favour higher clock speeds. I agree with @Danishblunt - temperatures will have to be carefully managed, since the cooling solutions in most laptops are crap.

Oh.... yeah I ignored him so I don't see his useless posts anymore :'D
Once DX12 becomes mainstream I doubt the CPU will matter in gaming at all.hmscott likes this. -
Pull more powa?
Can you run your 6700hq chips max loaded +45w 24/7/365 ?
And why should a still fully locked down 45w chips now with even bigger Die due 50% more cores, run into more heat problems than same TDP locked down 7700Hq? Yeah, I undestand.
I see some here defend the bigger jump down in bin (clocks) vs. the desktop chips. Oh'well
There is a reason why Intel® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF) is developed.Last edited: Nov 20, 2017 -

Nah, not defending the decrease, just saying that there are some workloads that benefit from a larger number of lower-clocked cores (that is partly why Xeons exist).

I didn't look on you bruh, when I talked about decrease in bin. They know exactly who they are. And that a bigger die and still same wattage will increase temp when all cores run max load. What a statement, LOOLLast edited: Nov 20, 2017Raiderman and ThePerfectStorm like this.

Darn they need to have unlocked CPUs considering its 6 core version. I thought HH was superior to HQ.
6700HQ hardly pulls more than 30W, don't know what the cause is? -
ThePerfectStorm Notebook Deity
The 8820HK will be the unlocked version.

All 6 core version should be unlocked version since it costs more than Quad core.
-
ThePerfectStorm Notebook Deity
Intel would never do that. They will milk consumers till the end.

Not the way it works, bruh. Rather expect Intel® Dynamic Platform and Thermal Framework (DPTF) will be heavily used for what it is. The fully locked down 6 core chips will be used in thinner and thinner laptop models. Intel themselves said so. Read their announcement.
-
Will they do that, I don't believe so. Thin laptop causes too many issues unless its submerged under water provided with a wireless screen protection or water proof screen so that Fishes in an aquarium along with the user can enjoy 1080p gaming and stream FHD or 4k Netflix movies.hmscott likes this.
-
Of course they will do. In exactly same way as they put in 45w Hq chips in thin and flimsy today. Read Intel’s announcement. You find it on the web.
-
I'm going to try DPTF on linux to see if the fan profile can be tweaked because on Linux the CPU/GPU fans starts at 85C instead of 75C.hmscott likes this.
-
Shouldn't signal aka fan profile pre installed in EC go off before OS determine with what temp? Screwed by Dell (fan profile overwritten)?
-
ON EC memory, its configured to run fans set to 2500 rpm at 75C, 3000 rpm for 80C, 85C on 3500-4000 rpm and after that it is on 5500-5900 rpms.

They all use same socket? Sky,kaby and CFL? Intel likes more money.Papusan likes this.
-
They all use same socket? Noo, where did you get this from?
More as... You will get TRIPOD in all form and shapes. It's BGA as you can see. If this can be called socket... Bigger Intel package means less space on MB for the 4th leg
Vasudev likes this. -
CPUz just showed me Socket 1440 FCBGA on 6700HQ BGA.
-
Yeah, I know Intel prefer for simplicity, call it socket. But Wikipedia or Wikichips don't like it. See also CPU Socket Types Explained: From Socket 5 To BGA [MakeUseOf Explains]
-
At least they are all still 45w, Intel had been talking about dropping it to 35w, but probably that would have been for 4c/8t, for the new 6c/12t it's not possible.
I am still interested in how slicing up the power budget on power limited and unlimited H 4c/8t CPU's already not reaching 45w (7700HQ/6700HQ) will perform with 6c/12t slicing up the 45w.

@Papusan @Phoenix
Check this links out https://www.techpowerup.com/239153/intel-extends-the-core-i9-brand-to-the-mobile-platform
@Papusan Maybe your kids want an core i9 BGA? Atleast TDP shoould be bumped to 65W. Hell, my dead desktop chip with stock intel cooler never went over 50C on OC'ing.
I used Gugabyte easytune and at that time I didn't have internet in my home so only had gigabyte apps for my board G31 Chipset with E5500 CPU. Easy tune reported 20GHz core speeds and 4GHz RAM speed, only had GTA Vice city and stock CPU paste and it was freaking fast. Maybe it was clocking 4GHz instead of 20GHz due to a bug maybe??
Mr. Phoenix needs an BGA upgrade since he upgrades his PC every year. 6 cores/12 threads Or maybe he will move to Ryzen laptops??? -
-
Like I said earlier I didn't have internet connection and lacked serious knowledge in these things. CPUz, GPUz were unheard things for me. I'm just saying what Gigabyte easy tune 6 reported me at that time. I was using Win XP.Papusan likes this.

Why the F would intel still limit a so-called i9 to 45watt?that too at 6 core!? If anyone puts these cpus in their laptops and dosentprovide an option in bios to change ec setting, and tdp mod the cpu, then no one is going to buy this big pile of crap!
-
Did you change your username?
You need 65-75W watts for optimum power delivery and OC on BGA. I think Prema will get a working BIOS for it as well.wyvernV2 likes this. -
Yep,thats what i am saying, however i dont think clevo would build a laptop with this i9.Vasudev likes this.
-
Yeah they'll make BGA in limited quantity. The prices will be similar to LGA laptops.
-
-
Dell charges close to $5000 on 7820HK in india. With i9 $10000 is their aim, so that means getting a LGA from Hid will be far more cheaper. Lovely....
-
A stripped down AW17R4 with (7820Hk + 1070) cost me $169 more than a Clevo with 8 core 8700K and Gtx1080 here home. See with a 1070
But I get a TRIPOD on top
And God know what ssd brand.

Then I'll order a clevo when I purchase a new home near your place (if there's any available space)
