I have been here for so long but never cared to test, but today I was feeling that my mom's 2.6G Celeron-D desktop was really more inferior than I thought it to be when I built it for her a year ago. So I thought I'd compare it to my lappy:

    Desktop:
    Celeron-D 2.6GHz
    512MB 333MHz
    80GB 7200RPM
    2 million: 2:40

    Laptop (Fujitsu N6010):
    P4-M 3.2GHz
    1GB Dual Channel 400MHz
    7K60 60GB, 7200RPM
    2 million: 1:45

    Man was I shocked.

BTW just glancing at the reported scores, does my P4 bite or what! EASILY BEAT BY A 1.86GHz PM ... THE SHAME :p ... I actually wasn't shocked at all

Well it depends on if you are running it after a reboot, what rou have run before SuperPi, or whats running at the same time as SuperPi.

If running after a reboot, itll be quick the first time.
If running after running out heavy apps, or while those apps are still running, itll be quicker the second or even third time.
Its all about windows not needing to free up RAM by paging during the SuperPi run.

OK, so my laptop is an ACER Travelmate 800lci.

    Specs:
    1.3 Ghz Pentium
    40 GB 4200 rpm HD
    256 MB PC2100 RAM
    DVD/CD-RW
ATI Mobility Radeon 9000 (64 MB)

I thought it would be slow, but it suprised me. I was also running Firefox in the background.

The Pi test turned out a time of 2m 40s. Not to bad, but it will be blown away by the ASUS z70v refresh I am going to order soon. Oh yeah.

    Nope that is a 3.2GHz ... it's a P4. The "M" in P4-M is there to designate 533FSB and speedstep. Regular P4s are 800FSB and no speedstep!

Both tests (ac power and battery) ended with the same figure:

    1 minute and 42 seconds.

This was done with 512 memory as my 2gig of DDR2 533mHz hasnt arrived yet (even though I already put it in my sig below) I dont know if it will change any, but I will try this again once I put the 2 gig in.

    Ok heres mine...
Running programs in background during tests:
    -AVG antivirus
    -MSN
    -Remote desktop
    -Firfox
-and trasnfering large files too to my laptop from my other desktop(first trial with AC anyways)
    MY COMPUTER STATS:
    Athlon 64 3700+
    1gb ddr sdram
128vram (ATI) with additional 128 shared video ram
    100gb 4200rpm hd
    model: Gateway 7510GX

    With AC: 1min 40sec (second trial was 1min 37sec )
With Battery: 4min 11 sec (second trial was 4min 13sec)

Using only the Battery made a huge difference, i think my score was the most deviating yet... Perhaps some setting on my computer affects this? I honestly don't notice the speed difference when im on the battery (Cept the battery doesn't like to stay charged for too long haha )

    Looking at the other times:
Seems like the 64 cpu has much better load time than the Intels with this test. :) The PM didn't do too bad, but still i think the 64 cpu's did best (not a biased observation at all :)....

    OK, did my laptop again:
    AMD Turion 64 ML-30 1.6GHz - 1GB DDR DRAM: 2:11

And my desktop I did for the heck of it:
    intel Pentium 4 3.2GHz w/HT, 512k cache, 800FSB - 1GB DDR Dual Channel: 1:41
    :D

Anyone have an HP zv6k/r4k with an AMD 4000+ proc? I'd like to see what that gets ;)

And, if anyone has the intel Pentium M 780 (2.26GHz), that would be interesting as well.

OK, I fixed my RAM speed by doing a BIOS update.
    SuperPI 2M w/ PC2100RAM = 2:11
    Now with PC2700RAM = 2:07

    That's a 3.1% performance increase.

    Turion 64 ML-30 1.6GHz, 1600MHz Hypertransport, 1MB L2, .90nm, Lancaster core.

    SWEET DUDE!

I bet my pentium 200 MMX 64MB can beat that time easily ... give me a day or 2 until the test is done running :p ... I hope it will run! Win98 and that little RAM. I'll give it a try tomorrow, and report back ... this should be fun :D

And the winner is my Pentium 200 MMX with 64MB RAM, and some really old 4GB HDD (I really wonder about RPM :p) OS, Win98 SE

    TIME: 32m 54s for 2M

I am actually impressed, thought it would take an hour at least :D

BTW I have a DX4 CPU but nothing to plug it into (mobo died centuries ago!) :( ... that would have been an eternal thing :p

LoL! Eh it's always fun to play with your old computers....somehow I want to get rid of mine but I never do...they have some sentimental value I guess.

Hey I just found something interesting - if you have a processor that supports SSE3 instructions (Turion 64, a new Athlon 64, or a Pentium 4 Prescott), you may want to download SUPER PI with the SSE3 patch - I got 2:07 before the patched one, now I get 2:02 on my Turion ML-30.

    Check it out!

Theres a link on this page to download it:

    Nice Find Chaz! :)

I did a rerun of the regular version and the patched one. I closed all programs that might be slowing stuff down (AV, Spyware...).
    Results:
    regular version: 1.42
    SSE3 patched: 1.34

this goes to show how programs developed for certain lines of processors can benifit from the new tech! :D

BTW, my P4-M is a prescott with an decreased FSB (533)

Thought I would post my results as I have been checking what seems to work best.

    IBM/Lenovo T43
    Pentium M 2.0
    1 gig DDR2
    60 gb 5400rpm
AC power, with no applications running, but no killing antivirus or anything like that.
    1 minute 31 seconds.

    Compaq B1801TU 512Mb DDR2, 80Gb drive, Pentium 1995MHz 37 degrees
Normal startup files, open files internet explorer, on wireless connection

    AC power 1 min 36 s
    Battery 1 min 37 sec

I've just added another 512M DDR2 to make 1Gig memory.

It's marginally lowered the speed of the 2M pi calculation to:
    1 min 34 sec

A whole 2 seconds faster - I didn't notice how much memory the test allocated the first time, but clearly it does not use all the memory available.

That doesn't make sense when both me and greymars have slightly slower cpus but are significantly faster. Was your cpu power set to maximum?

1:24? Sounds way too fast for a 1.6GHz P-M (and I assume you mean P-M, not P4-M, which is considerably slower and isn't offered on the 9300).

OK, I finally measured mine. All computers were running on AC power.

    Desktop: Pentium 4 (Northwood), 3.0GHz, 1024MB RAM - 1:49
    Laptop: IBM Thinkpad T42, Pentium M (Dothan), 1.8GHz, 512MB RAM - 1:50
    Laptop: Compaq Evo N610c, Pentium 4M (Northwood), 1.8GHz, 256MB RAM - 3:11

I find it interesting that the pm 740 (1.73Ghz) is faster than the 1.8 pm.

The 1.73GHz P-M has 533MHz FSB and 533MHz RAM. The 1.8GHz P-M has 400MHz FSB and 333MHz RAM. The difference is probably due to these factors.
