It's probably because FireFox190 did the 1 million test instead of the 2 million digit test that everybody else did.

    Dell Inspiron 8100, P3 1.13GHz, 0.5GB RAM, 30GB HD, WinXP Pro SP2

All on AC power (battery results largely depend on power settings)

    2M Pi: 4m 45s (285s)

    2M Pi while playing a podcast in iTunes: 5m 26s (326s)

    Difference: 14% slower

iTunes processor usage in task manager when system is idle: 4%-10% (alternating each update for task manager)

All other "normal" software was loaded and running, including Firefox, IE, DevStudio, Google desktop search, Picasa2, etc.

    2m Pi: 1m 31s :(

    2m Pi while playing a podcast in iTunes: 1m 33s :)

    Difference: 1%

iTunes processor usage in task manager when system is idle: 0-3% (again, alternating)

As before, everything else was configured about the same, other than the OS.

Asus makes an adapter which allows the use of the pentium-m processors on some of thier motherboards. If I'm not mistaken MSI has made a new mobo designed for the smaller atx form factor which uses pentium-m processors. In both cases they can beat the pants off of any desk-top processor for games - even the new AMD fx-55 but for hard number crunching the fx-55 wins. All this and 1/3 the power useage. You can check it out on THG; just try searching for something to the effect of "RIP pentium 4"

    Thats no supprise.
Battery or Power should make no difference to speed at all (as long as the CPU speed is the same for each).

The fact its faster is probably because you ran it after the powered test which means it would have had more windows resources to use.

SuperPi will almost always be faster the second time you run it.

    Captain,

What CPU is in your Acer, P4, PM, AMD? Which test did you run, 1M or 2M?
    ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    MWP,

Whenever I run SuperPi, I always get the exact same number. Strange.
