Ok here are my scores, specs first:

    Dell inspiron 5160
Mobile p4 3.06 Ghz with HT
512 MB ram at 333 Mhz
5,400 rpm 40 GB Hitachi drive
64 MB Nvidia Geforce fx go 5200

    Super pi 2m digits

1 min 48 seconds (max performance, 3066 MHz)

2 min 18 seconds (Dynamic switching, using speedswitchXP)

2 min 48 seconds (max battery, 1866 Mhz)

By the way, white devil, both of the times your computer was at 2.0 GHZ.
It doesnt make any sense that you get the same score at 800 Mhz as you get at 2.0 Ghz, so get over it.

maybe off topic but just checked this guys overclocked P4 (5.8GHz) getting the following superpi results

    21s for patched version
    23s for unpatched version

it seems that the record right now for the unpatched version is 22s. The same guy has actually managed to get into bios running at a crazy 7.22GHz!!!!

    http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=53037
go to page 2 to see superpi results

Those results are only for 1 million decimals.

My 3.06 GHz did it in 48 seconds.

All results posted here are timed for 2 million decimals

Just for reference, year old homebuilt desktop:
Athlon XP 2800+, 512Meg pc3200 ram, on a Nvidia nForce2 Ultra 400 motherboard (this combo is about $210 now):
    1m 58sec

The Sony P4 3.06Ghz notebook above at 2m 5sec is interesting, since that is a somewhate higher level of rating -- 3Ghz. You always here that AMD processors outperform Intels, but usually that's at the same rating. Guess there could be some efficiency in the motherboard on my desktop, but not sure if that accounts for it.

Ah I see. That sony p4 was on page 1 of this thread, but other p4s are performing better. These other times for a p4 at 3.06Ghz are more like what you'd expect.

for 1M pi the Athlon 2800+ (no overclocking) does[ :)] 52 sec.

I did some testing on the Hyperthreading and got pretty good results i would say:

Turned on calculator and put in 99999999! which is a very very large calculation that wouldnt finish in days if it would ever.
Then i opened super pi and did the 1 M calculation.

Amazingly it finished in 1:03 mins compared to 48 seconds which i got while running only super pi. I think a difference of only 15 seconds while running computer intensive tests at the same time is quite good.
Can anybody whitout a HT enabled processor run the same test i did so we can compare results?

I can't believe I forgot to do this test for the past seven or eight months. Anyway, my S170P with P-M 715 1.5 GHZ, 1 GB DDR333 RAM, 4200RPM 60 GB HDD clocks in with

    AC: 2 m 07 s
    Battery: 2 m 08 s (full performance, of course)

I have a clean install XP SP2, so very few Sony-wares. I think the battery time will be identical to AC if I wasn't typing in a Messenger window during the battery test. Here is a hijackthis list of the running process during the test:

    dell i9200, CPU 2.0ghz, 2 gb PC2700 ram (2.5-3-3-7), 7200 rpm drive

1'53" (wireless network, virus protection & firewall all running)

i believe systems with only one memory stick may run this benchmark faster; how much i don't know - there is a small overhead having to make the decision between 4 memory banks instead of 2 only

I'm all about value and performance/$. So my laptop is(was -- insurance is going to replace since it was damaged in a wreck) AMD Athlon based, a Athlon xp-M 2800+, clocking in at only
    $730 !!

    for 2M superpi:
    2m 25sec

    or 145 seconds

Which leads to a NEW STATISTIC: dollars/superpi-time

For this laptop, that's a nice:

    5.03 $/sec

Just remember a laptop performance is not only based on the processor, which is what super pi calculates. Other things cost more thant the CPU itself(Video card, LCD display, memory, HD, etc) which super pi doesnt account for.

    hp zv5000 xp-m 3000,(256k cache) 512mb, 60gb 4200rpm hd
    @800mhz on battery: 4m 07sec
    @1600mhz via clockgen on battery: 2m 13sec
can't be bothered right now to test plugged in, but I would expect it to be the same as the manual 1600mhz battery speed. My desktop xp-m 2400 barton core clocked to 2100mhz @1.525v did it in 1m 57sec.

Well my replacement laptop for my Althon xp-m 2800+ Compaq is an HP with an Athlon xp-m 2800+. I did this because I could reuse the 512MB memory chip outta the wrecked Compaq, and also because it was on sale for $700 (!).
This HP Pavilion zv5404us is a pretty nice machine, with some better features over the 9 month old similar Compaq (2103us) I had. For about the same price, it has built in wireless, a wireless on/off button (nice!), looks better, and just has a somewhat better overall feel and quality.

The neatest thing is the "PowerNow" technology on the AMD cpu. Some cool stuff: You can monitor and see it *instantaneously* adjust the processor speed (and thus power use and heat generation, etc) as needed. Now THAT is COOL!!

    Literally.

    Distinctly cooler running.

So the performance is decent, specially for only $700.

    Pi 2M: 2m 12sec

since this machine is to surf and do occasional chess, having 10-12% less performance, but paying only 1/2 the $$$ is a good buy for me.

After re-installing the laptop with XP Pro and without all the crap that Dell provides the test resulted in a 1m 42s. So I spend 5 hours reinstalling and get a 2 second performance boost...great :D

WIth the laptop unplugged the test results in a 1m 41 second test? Curious.

Interest to notice how NOT advanced are the pentium 4's compared to the pentium 3's. My Dell C610 notebook:

    Pentium 3-1.0ghz, 768megs, 266 mhz ram
    3:59 battery power
    3:10 AC power

It's three years old and faster than perhaps all the celerons. And faster than most of the pentium 4's (not M's) at double the speed.

It must have a lot to do with L2 cache.

So glad to see the Pentium M 1.6GHz score! I'm getting a Dell Inspiron 9300 with the Pentium M 1.6GHz. Was a little afraid it was gonna be a lot slower than my desktop (which it's replacing). I see it's almost the same or better (in this test anyways). Oh, by the way, just for comparison:

    Plugged In: 1:56 (2M)

    Desktop Athlon XP 2800+
    512MB PC2700
    120GB WD 8MB cache
    Windows XP

    I got weird result...

with ac power and installing half-life 2 with msn messenger open norton anti-virus enabled :
    2m22s (@1,7 GHz)
with ac power and everything turned off :
2m51s (@230 MHz) seems that the cpu want to save power even on ac...
    running on batery:
    2m14s (@594 MHz)
i think the power managment algoritm are not that efficient... so just to see here is the last result on ac..
    2m7s... @1,324 GHz...
i dont understand why the cpu is not running at 1,7GHz on ac... maybe intel could answer... if any1 know how to select the speed of a pentium-m please tell me...

    Fujitsu 2330c
    pentium-m 735 2MBL2 cache
    15 inchs Xga
!Intel Extreme Graphics 2 64 mb shared
    60 GB 4000 rpm
    DVD-R+-
    512 mb ram 266MHz
    and a floppy drive!

An insight to the new Fujitsu N3510...

1:47sec both with and without AC power.

compared to 2:48 on my P4 2.4GHz, that seems quite good.

How do you overclock the notebook?
