Acer 303MXi 1.7Gz Dothan 1GB RAM 7200 60GB Hitachi: 1:55 on AC "Home/Office" power management, normal processes running.

Exact same timing results running with backup on old 20GB 4200 Toshiba replaced internally with identical drive image.

OK you guys are going to be JEALOUS !!!
    Also, I need some explaining...

Plugged in: 2:08 and then 2:01
    Unplugged: 1:58 and 1:59

The test was pi to 2M...

Does that make sense... Why would unplugged be faster than plugged in?
Keep in mind the power settings for plugged are fastest processor speed and unplugged variable processor speed.

    I am running a (brand new) T42P:
    - 15" screen
    - P745 1.8ghz
    - 1 gig Ram
    - 128mb video card
    - 60 gig Hard drive @7200

Well, I don't have my iBook handy, but an equally crippled system:

Based off of an iMac G5 1.8GHZ w/ 1 GB RAM

Windows XP SP 2 (under Microsoft Virtual PC 7)
    686 processor
    529 MHz
    256 MB RAM

    Conversely,

    Interesting...!

OK, get ready for a *VERY* old Sony Vaio Z505 SuperSlim Pro Notebook (PCG-Z505JS). I have no idea if these specs will be of interest to anyone or not...

    Here goes:

    Intel Pentium III 650 MHz
    128 MB SDRAM
    256KB integrated on-die Cache level 2
    12 Gig HD
    100 MHz bus speed

I'm running the tests today with the above configuration, and then again in a few days when I get an additional 128 MB SDRAM upgrade (on the way).

    AC - 6m 57s
    Battery - 8m 24s

My fairly new HP laptop took over 20 minutes to complete. This is madness. I've known all along its pretty slow but there must surely be something wrong with it. Even the oldest machines posted here are way faster. The spec:

    HP nx9010
    2.8GHz Celeron
    704MB Ram
    64MB VRam Radeon IGP 345M
    30GB Hdd

My friends desktop machines had these scores

    800MHz Athlon : 6m 04s
    1700+ Athlon XP : 3m 08s

Anybody got any suggestions about this? Clearly theres a problem.

I was wondering whether to buy a new notebook with Dothan or with desktop level pentium 4. Before this forum I came across an informative article about difference in Pentium 4, Dothan and AMD processors. These folks put all three processors on desktop motherboards using corresponding adapters, with really fast gaming level video cards. Amazingly, Dothan is nearly as fast as P4EE - they say because of chip architecture differences. Check it out:

ps: time was when running oracle server and IIS - but the PI app took 99% CPU so I am guessing it is representative of my CPU

    On AC: 2 minutes
That's with McAfee security centre, acrobat reader, and 4 explorer windows open.
    On AC (2): 2 minutes 1 second.
The second time I tried it it was without everything above except for 2 explorer windows open.

I didn't download super pi from the links in this forum, so I'm not sure if it is the same program, but I'm sure the steps for calculation are the same.

This is strange because I have pretty much the exact specs as the guy with the 600m on page 14 (Dothan 1.8, 512 PC2100 ram, 60 gig 5400 rpm) but my time is 11 seconds slower than his. Any suggestion to why is that?

Impartially. If you are none of these, you can be sure it will kill you too, but there will be no special hurry.

Nope, I did not overclock my notebook (because I do not know how). WEll I did it again and I actually got 1:44 sec with and without the AC.

    I guess it changes sometime.

I tried doing this on my PC, 3200+ amd with 1 gig ddr ram, radeon pro, 160 gb hard drive, .. it came out to be around 2 min.

Considering this is one of the cheapest notebooks on the market thats not too bad. Anybody looking for an entry level should definitely consider this, but try get a WLMi version - has lotsa extras.

I got this one today as a replacement for my HP nx9010 which I managed to sell. So far I'm real happy [8D]

    Hello everyone !
I think I have done something wrong with my PI test or set the criteria wrong. I got 3:52 min on my Compaq Presario R3320CA, AMD64 3000+ laptop. I have seen people getting 1:47 min on AMD64 3200 +, 512 RAM. Would there be so much difference between AMD64 3000+ and 3200_ ? Any idea why my results are so poor? Should I use the 20 iterations setting? How can P change the performance setting to get maximum power?

    Hello everybody !
I got my ne PI results and they are now at 1:53 min. As I was advised on one of the posts, I updated mu CPU AMD64 mobile driver and that unlocked my CPU running frequency, which was fixed for some reason at 800MHz. Now after the update from AMD site my CPU goes to 1.8 MHz and that is the score I get. I was really surprised to learn that my CPU clock frequency was locked at 800MHz. There is a new post about updating the CPU driver. The only think which makes me wonder is the fact that I got the driver from AMD and release date of the driver was Dec2004 and version was 1.0.18 and when I check the driver in the device manager I see the date as May 23 2004 and driver version is 1.1.0.0 where AMD was saying that the driver is 1.1.0.18. Any idea why?

    eMachines m6805 - Athlon 64 3000+ @ 2ghz - 512mb RAM - 60gb 4200rpm

    Plugged- 1:42
    Battery- 1:42

Also, on battery it was running @ 880mhz. You must hate me [ :D]
And to make sure, I did this test twice for plugged/battery. Also, I was using the computer normally (avast, ares, wireless card, mozilla...)

White Devil: AMD powernow technology clocks the processor up to full power when its needed and then drops it back to half speed when idle, so its not suprising that the results are the same. I have a 2800+ Sempron and experienced the same. You can download the powernow dashboard from amd's site to see this working. As far as I know there's no way to lock the processor at the lower speed to prolong battery life.

    1. I checked it and it said it clcoked at 880mhz WHILE doing this, and I haven't even installed the powernow drivers yet.

There are very few problems that can't be solved with explosives.
