The shutdown is a hardware feature, not software..

yea i think the reason it restarted on me is because i ran the game without the ac power cord so it was downclocked. I shut the game down then i restarted the game again while also using the supcom maximizer which supposodly makes the cpu handling for the game better. maybe thats the reason why it restarted. sorry for the confusion guys. this programs top notch though..like how i can see my temps..it says 39 atm thats good right heh?

I am glad that it works fine for you.

The RivaTuner is used as a monitoring tool.

If the temperature reaches critical or threshold (usually around 90C degrees), then the system will handle automatically (not RivaTuner).

Strange that it crashed.... that does not seem characteristic of heating issues though.

Wow you have good temps for that system.

My system floats around 85-90C degrees while playing games like Oblivion, C&C 3 and etc...

well my home is air conditioned so that may be the reason for it. and yea i think it crashed because of a program i used during gameplay...though i replayed again and went fine and won the AI in 50 min^^

    LOL. nice. :)

Game crashes happen, and are usually hard to diagnose... unless if you can re-produce the problem in the exact way each time.

Notebook Hardware Control is not meant to monitor GPU temps... only CPU, HDD, and voltages/power options.

I had that framerate issue initially... where it read 0 FPS.

Then after a while of gaming... and maybe a driver update... it reads all framerates perfectly.

about monitoring the GPU temps, my Nvidia Control center has a GPU tempature gauge thing and I was just wondering if that would be adequate?

If you are using Vista 64-bit, this is an issue.

If you are using Vista 32-bit, then it should work by...

For Vista (32-bit) users that do not see temp reading:
    (from Joga):
Just right click the RivaTuner shortcut, select properties, and run it in Compatability mode for Windows XP SP2 (and probably run as administrator, although I wouldn't know since I already disabled UAC)
    - (to access UAC) Control Panel -> User Accounts -> User Accounts (again) -> Turn User Account Control on or off

Conclusion: I believe that Vista locks down the system so much to not allow low level hardware access... especially with the dumb UAC.... as well as needing the user to have Admin rights to do anything.

CPU should float around 50-60 C degrees at load
HDD should float around 30-55 C degrees at load
GPU should never get past 90C degrees at load (thats critical temp)
    - idle temp varies from model to model (never higher than 60C usually)

My 5790's HDD hits 57C when I'm playing Company of Heroes. And that's with the Zalman cooler on max. Actually, running CoH doesn't change much since it hovers around 55C when idling.

mine hovers around the 55C if I just leave it there, but most of the time it's at 58-60C...I have the momentus 160 gig btw...

is there anything I should be worrying about?

I think that should be fine, Seagate Momentus 7200.2 HDD's operating temperature is from 0 to 60 C degrees.

So I would not be too concerned unless if it floats past the 60C mark... going into the dreaded 65C+ temps.

BTW, Notebook Hardware Control does not work for the Clevo D900C based Laptops, due to the System using a Desktop Processor. You get an error message that is pretty straight forward for WIn XP, but maybe the Vista run might produce an even more unexpected result, due to lack of desktop CPU support and lack of Vista support.

It does work, you just have to use another version of NHC.

I ran into the same issue when I built my D900K.

I am using an older version, that detects my CPU temps fine. :)

    I have Asus G1S

My GPU temp scares me :s, 100° in full load and 74-78 in Idle. The CPU in idle 65 and in full reach easily 80°. In fact its normal, both share the same heatpipe, however i will not be surprised if tomorrow my lappy burns. I am right know in Korea for 6 months so I ordered a ZAlman ZM_NC 1000 cooler.

you can set up a shortcut to open the hardware monitor using keys, as long as Rivatuner is running in the system tray, the shortcut will launch the harware monitor.
I will post a little guide as soon as I get home.

Ok... here is something to make it simpler for all. :)

    UPDATE (2007-11-01): (Optional)
How to setup custom shortcut key to open Hardware Monitor

    1) Open RivaTuner, go to the Launcher tab, and click the green (+) icon
    [IMG]

    2) Select RivaTuner module activation item and hit OK
    [IMG]

    3) This is quick, so read carefully.
... i) Name the shortcut anything you want (Ex. Hardware Monitor Shortcut)
... ii) click inside the Associated hotkey box, and make a custom keystroke that you want to use (I choose: Ctrl + ` )
... iii) under Module type, choose Low-level module
... iv) under Module name, choose Hardware monitoring
... v) click OK when done.

    4) you are done adding the new shortcut, hit OK (to hide the Rivatuner to tray)

Now when you start up your computer, when you see the RivaTuner tray icons appear in the taskbar, you can use the shortcut key to open up the Hardware Monitor.

    Its just that easy.

    Nice. :)

Are there temperature widgets for WinVista that you can just simply add on to your desktop for view? the ones that check for CPU, RAM, HDD, and GPU temperature? That'd makes things much easier.

At the moment, RivaTuner or Everest are your best chances to get the most temp monitors on the desktop.
