This is standard, the new CC number is on the same account, so you are good![]()
AFAIK, you need to call.
Note that mastercard only extends warranties where the original warranty was 1 year or less. Does your X61 have a 1 year or 3 year Lenovo warranty ?

Only 1 year standard warranty. Do you know the phone number to Mastercard warranty or where can i look it up? Thanks and Happy new year =]

If your card is not eligible, you should consider upgrading to a 3 year warranty through lenovo. Lenovo offers 3 year warranties at very reasonable rates (~$100) -

It's quite unfortunate - I got excited when I read about my card benefits, including extended warranties, only to find out both my Visa and MasterCard state computer hardware as an exception. Bummer. (Canada)

Most ppl don't know of this. Thanks for pointing this out.

Hey I got a question.....What about a Visa Debit Card since they work like a credit card and can even swipe them as credit?
-
To give you an idea: my wife and I for the longest time had a Visa credit card with our credit union which did not have any of these frills. I shopped for another credit card which had the features we wanted and we got that. Then our credit union, the very same credit union with which we had a no-frills card decided to give us another Visa card that had all the same frills as the other one we got (extended warranty, etc.). So the same credit union gave two different kinds of cards, both Visas. One of them had no extra-features and the other was full of neat features. Some of their customers have the no-frills card and some have the one with extended warranties, etc. If you ask random costumers of that credit union, you'll get different answers. -

so im a little confused, i bought my xps 1530 on an amex last wednesday and arrives tuesday. so i was wondering do i ask for the extended warranty now or when/if my laptop fails.
-

To find out if your card provides this benefit, call them and ask (or look at your cardmember agreement).
You will need the following documentation when/if you file a claim later on (from their FAQ):
If you have lost this, call ask them to send a copy and save it with the other documents. -
well, its no laptop, but when my friends new LG refrigerator broke, AMEX replaced the entire fridge free of charge. i know im getting an AMEX card in the future....
-

If the refridegrator was new, why didnt LG take care of it ?
-
Perhaps his friend contacted AMEX directly.

i wonder does this apply to US only? does it apply to singapore? jus wondering.

Good question. Call up the CC and ask
And let us know what they say
-
Nice of AMEX to have replaced it free of charge, at least we can know that we can trust their warranty.
-
For Visa cards, it says that the warranty is 3 years max.
I was thinking of buying a 3 year warranty for my Thinkpad, but would that count for Visa? Would they do 3 year plus the extra year from their warranty?
Or would I be better off buying a 2 year warranty? -

If you purchased the warranty seperately, I dont know if it will cause problems, you''l have to call them and ask.
I recommend 3 year thinkpad warranties. -
delete please sorry
-
thank god for this thread. just found out my mastercard (canada) offers the same extended warranty!!!!
just checked and visa and amex offer the same here as well. -

there is only so much room for stickies on the board. This is better re-written as a FAQ and given a home in that section.

So if I buy warranty for my XPS M1730, then will I get full refund??
-
wearetheborg Notebook Virtuoso
If something happens to the laptop in the extra year of warranty, the CC will pay for repairs. -
Don't assume that your credit card protection is 'money back'. Often these protections are an entry door for no-cost repairs.
The key is to read the CURRENT terms and conditions for your card.
Bennies afforded to other users of other cards most likely do not apply to you. -

@wearetheborg
So how can I add one more year then??
What I need to do? -
read your credit card offers
-

You also will need proof of purchase, manufacturers warranty terms if you need repair later on, and the CC statement showing you bought the product with the CC in question.
Visa allows you to do the paperwork now so you dont have to hunt for the documents later on.
Details in the first post of this thread. -
Is there anything like this for UK?
